Great bit of info!!! Some of us use a brass sleeve with a shoulder around one end of the sleeve and holes drilled through the diameter of the sleeve. That then fits inside of the strut. Bought a used boat and it has this sleeve/bushing. I find that the grease doesn't last very long set up this way. Your way would make it practical to grease it up between heats with now problem! An idea you may want to explore is different lubes or grease. I'd like to know what you're using. Looks a little stiff. I'm using grease from Technical Hobbies(?) Since this stuff is a little thinner, it doesn't last on the cable as long. But, does the job with little loss of RPM. As often as you run boats, you're in a better position to do a test like this.

I wanted to comment on your flex shaft that your prop should run in the opposite direction on witch your flex shaft is wound. the way it is right now is it will expand in your stuffing tube and become shorter. your flex shaft is CCW and prop is CCW. I have been running Nitro boats for close to 40years and save a lot of shafts in that time from tightening up in the stuffing tube. Plus when your pushing the flex shaft back turning it CW the grease will run up the shaft like a screw. your video is a Great idea.

Offshore electrics. Use the chart on the link I sent figure out what size stuffing tube you have once you figure that out you should be able to narrow down the cable size, with or with out Teflon liner, as for shaft size use a micrometer/feeler gauge to get an inside diameter on your strut stinger

  • @PigglyWigglyDeluxe

I just want to stress that you gotta be careful not to get any grease in that coupler. You already said that but I want to assert that even more. Any grease in that coupler will cause the cable to spin in the coupler no matter how tight you secure it. It’ll burn up a fresh cable before you know it. I typically pull my motor when I grease my cable so I have more room to clean the end of the cable after I grease it

Don't use marine grease because it gives so much friction on the drive shaft that a plastic bearing case will melt I know because it happened to my rc boot .I use always chainsaw (chain oil) it is sticky but much thinner than marine grease . Chainsaw oil doesn't create high rpm friction heat and also stay's on the shaft.
