  • Chipper LLC Tree Service using our Skid Steer Rotary Brush Cutter to mow area overrun with thick chinese privitt. This is what these mowers excell at. Most videos for these machines show them doing cake jobs but this is what they are for, super thick brush, vines and saplings, stuff that's 5" or less in diameter. Brush that's too much for a tractor and bush hog is nothing to this machine. These aren't just for being able to mow using a skid steer. These mowers are HEAVY DUTY and they are geared to spin the blades at a higher RPM that standard bush hog style cutters. Being mounted on a skid steer makes them great for all terrain jobs. We are based between Cumming and Alpharetta GA and service all of North Atlanta suburbs. We offer bush mowing, forestry mowing, tree care and tree removal stump grinding, clearing a grading. You need a loader thats putting out more hydraulic GPH for this kind of brush!

You are correct that a tractor and PTO mower is the correct tool for open areas without a lot of trees. The skid steer brush mowers are for cutting thick underbrush and hard to reach areas. For large grassy areas a pto mower is king. If you have saplings and underbrush the skid steer rotary cutter rules.

Standard flow works fine for what I am doing. Can clear a couple acres per day of saplings and brush. I tend to do a lot of work on steep slopes and running skid steer on high flow makes undercarraige weaker as it is diverting power to attachment. I have ran both. High flow is faster but undercarriage weaker and high flow mower is more money

I found that if I run with the front of the mower about 3' high and the rear near the ground I can go through the brush without bogging and still get a low cut. I have a video on my channel of me running a home made brush hog this way and it does not stall.

My skid steer puts out 20 GPM so if you put a 21 GPM pump you will get the same results. 20 GPM equates to about 30 PTO horsepower. Driving right off the PTO is stronger and more efficient but running hydraulics lets you tilt the mower and do things you couldn't do with a rigid PTO shaft. My 40 HP farm tractor will run circles around my skid steer cutter in grass and weeds but the skid steer mower will chew up six inch diameter saplings that my farm tractor and bush hog could not cut.

Cool machine! Watch out for flying debris at the 0:24 mark. :-)

@flyinasscritter A hi flow skidsteer paired with a matching cutter would help a lot in maintaining the speed.
Imo the rear beauty of the hydraulic drive is that the gearbox last much longer because of the hydraulic cushin.
A tractor will have full engine hp to drive the cutter,in some instances that is a plus and in others it is not

@beyondupnorth yup i am going to get a brush hog for my takeuchi tl130 but having a regular brush hog would be nice for open areas.

Looks like it runs out of momentum when chopping. Sorry to say but a standard pto brush hog on a 60 hp tractor would mow circles around that. Especially in an open area without alot of trees. But skid steer brush hogs do have advantages. Like overhead mowing. Not a bad vid though

Where’s the stupid “stay back 300 feet” disclaimer?

the operator of that machine has NO idea what he's doing. AND - the machine he's using is completely inadequate to run the brush cutter. i hope the property owner didn't pay more than a $100 to get this job done.

why not buy a high flow for the asv thats why most people have them see that this unit is not using the high flow

How does hi flow make undercarriage weaker??
