This old guy is sitting here listening to the fan on my wood stove. It's in the low 30'sF out there and the house is just above 71F. My problem with this is most of those trees could have been cut into cord wood. I do love the machine and if I was younger I wish I could get a job running it.

I wish we could see the cleared path or it backing up to mulch more. Maybe this one did not need to do that but I can't see what is left behind to know how finely it got chopped. Awesome machinery either way.
This is the old Vermeer Stump Grinder gone full circle, 10 cutting heads all shoved together. My old Vermeer 672 Stump eater would seem pretty tame nowadays.
just from a cost perspective, what I see is chopping of trees, at great cost, leaving stumps. The per acre cost for this, even if just chopping brush of 5" diameter is pretty costly. Is not another way cheaper? Or, in heavy timber where large trees are left standing, what is the purpose?
I would imagine this being great for not only changing the type of trees in the area (from unwanted species) but for firebreaks, pre-construction clearing and for destroying tree damaging insects and fungi.
Also wondering how do the inserts take rocks; in most of the videos I watch on this type of equipment there is never any rocks.... I know road pulverizers do well with hard items such as rocks, but not well with wood
It really depends on what type of tooth they are running. Basically there are modified versions of road pulverizers. So these would hold up quite well to rock and even metal to an extent. There are blade style ones made out of tool steel that gives excellent cut quality but does not hold up to rocks as well.
People will never learn that brush/tree clearing is NOT a spectator sport. Stand at least 300 feet away from any machine doing this type work or take a log thru the head.
I have the same problem I had a lady run right up to the front of the cutting head once when i was clearing a lot and im trying to wave her away as i hit all the shut downs on the machine and that drum spins for a good solid min-45sec all so she could ask is she could rake up some of the mulch i was making and use it for her planters
David Hoover funny you say this as I ran across a video of a guy getting just that. Well actually it took his head clean off. I captured two different stills off of the video. First one showing nothing left on his shoulders and the second showing the blood. Talk about stupidity creating misery.
Now, this is a nice piece of equipment!! just wonder what it costs? I love trees; but people are still going to clear property and I can see this doing a better job of recycling than a bull dozer piling brush and leaving ruts every where
+Matt Glascock LMAO Matt! Got a sudden picture of Thousands of People running in all directions Yelling and SCREAMING, falling all over each other and no place to run to!
I was thinking that tree line along that wheat (?) field looked like a deer highway. It also appeared that there were some oak tree "casualties" also. Maybe the farmer or his family doesn't hunt.
They don't care. They do the same near me for a few more rows of crops. They do it near the natural drainage area thereby increasing erosion. The deer are out in the open now along their natural run. Maybe this fall the deer will be regarded as a nuisance and they will eliminate them. I saw this same thing years ago and the farmer slaughtered the herd and let them rot. No one held him accountable. All for the all mighty dollar. I don't have much respect for some of the "farmers".
guys calm down about the tree's being wasted and them "supposedly" being stupid...think of the options first...maybe they're rotted out in the inside, are dead, etc...its alllll good guys. So many people whine about so many things and probably aren't even thinking half the time. So, that's why i posted this.
Adrian Fox the mulch stays on site so the bio mass will continue to decay, i clear many acres of land especially of invasive and destructive trees shrubs etc.. which do not belong in our eco system, equipment like this allows you to mulch down the tree to replant and regrow with out the added use of equipment like haul trucks, loaders, on site grinders, excavation equipment, etc... some times we have to do this to get lands back to a clean state so native vegetation can reclaim the lands they belong on. of course the other use for this equipment is to use it for clearing land for new construction agriculture etc.. no matter what as the population increases construction will continue whether we go up to the skies or claim more land in the name of progress.
Good video. But I don’t know why when he pulls up to a large tree or for the most part any tree he picks the Cuter head up. Just keep it flush with the ground and go . Just looks to me like some unnecessary steps.
nice machine. we need bigger like this for clear the rainforests and cultivate in it.trees dont give money. make paper and furnitures and cultivate bean and corn.
Oh that machine can be improved. I can hear the parasitic drag from the heavy hammers getting loaded. I would like to see a heavy flywheel on the cutting drum. It might need more torque from the engine too.

Hi James, This type of machines is used for big land-clearing works, for constriction, under power-line cleaning, for oil site preparation, new roads preparations, etc.
PLAISANCE54 thanks for your reply. Would love a go in one of those things . I sub for a local tree surgeons and we often get clearance jobs for builders , this machine would put all us lads out of work lol.
That is one wood eating machine, but if you plan on building or cultivating in a cleared area you still have the stumps to deal with. I think it would work great in Texas on mesquite trees that are to small for fire wood.
I just love the environmental whingeing and whineing from moral high roaders that have probably never been outside a city in their lives let alone have any idea of what they are talking about. They Always take the moral High ground as an excuse to sound informed and knowledgeable even when they are talking complete and utter crap they have no clue about.
I work in heavy equipment and it does bother me to push down nice trees and watch them wasted. trees are beautiful I think but I can't pay bill with beautiful ( im not good looking enough) I do know people complain about the environment. their are other ways to offset impacts on enviroment. how much worthless junk do you purchase every year , how many cars you own. how much recycling do you do? yelling about a tree doesn't make you an eco savior.
forestry is more than you needing some firewood. Are you going to cut the trees and haul them away before the crew arrives? Bear in mind that the terrain is unreachable with cars, jeeps or such alike. The roots must also be pulled out and mulched up before that time... These machines are used to clear a path, or to clean up after the logging is done. This was just a DEMO. It's for American or Russian forests, and for hard to reach terrain where they cut certain kind of wood. That's business.

reality is that most of the places these machines are used are quite remote and inaccessible to make firewood worthwhile. Further, these particular trees look to be junk poplar that will only end up causing chimney fires etc... Up to you if you wanna heat your house with itself... lol

That's the best one I've seen
Somewhere, some old guy is watching this, and thinking this is the perfect thing he needs for his battle over his neighbors hedges..
"While I was at it, I took out your entire house..."

Not a tree hugger but from Maine and watching this and all I can think is..... All that damn firewood being mulched, are they nuts!!
The mulch actually can be gathered and moved. If left in place , it retains more water and new plants and trees thrive coming out of it.
Can you use wood chips in your pellet stove?
Will paper mills buy wood chips?
Tree huggers worst night mare. That operator actually gets paid! To run that thing.
Can y'all come out with newer videos of this monster, I'm so tired of watching this one over and over!!! LOL 😅😅 PLEASE!!!
why are stump grinder, mulchers so satisfying to watch?cause we had to do it by hand!love this machine, spoiled brats
Amen.
looks like it would be good for undergrowth and trees to small for firewood
Still unreal Horsepower. It never slows down.
Wow!!!! What a beauti... Love that machine. Sure takes cste of the job... 💜🌲🤓
would be great for zombies
That is impressive.
What would the daily rate be for a machine like that??

Rotting trees and decaying biomass has an important role in the ecosystem too.

They are not being waisted. They are being mulched with in turn builds topsoil and moisture retention
Sounds like it needs more power nice machine but bogs down grinding medium density brush loads where a Barko machine would tear through it easily
Human civilization needs 100 comparable machines for planting forests for every one of these that clears forests.
