I have a friend who works at Walmart and she told me about their sale. I got some great fabric for $1.00 per yard. It really helped me, as 95% of the quilts I make are for Hospice patients.
Hi Wanda, you are what I love about this quilting community, your generosity!!!! Have you tried thrift stores? I love to find xl mens shirts that are 100% cotton and cut them up to quilt with!!!! I sometimes find someones fabric stash being sold off there too. Best of luck getting some good deals and thank you for suppling quilts for Hospice!!!
You are amazing. Hope to be able to donate to Hospice Care places when I get a nice collection of quilts.
Wanda is the kind of person we all want to be, right Judy!!! She has inspired me to find a good charity locally or donate to Hospice too!!!!
Hi all Walmarts? In SouthernCalifonia ?
What a phenomenal hubby!🎉❤
Love the quilts...but the dog is a show stealer. Thanks.
Most all of my videos have been stolen by the dogs at some point or other!!! I love them and really enjoy having them around me!!!
I love your husband's response 😊
He is the best!!!!
I just came across your video. I really enjoyed it. I loved your patterns. Those quilts turned out beautifully. I'm sure your friend will be extremely proud of those quilts and her little girls as well.
Hi Florence, Thank you so much for the sweet comment!! They all loved their gifts and, oh my, that little baby is so cute!!!
Thank you for sharing these sweet quilts with us. I really appreciate you sharing them.
You are so welcome!!! It is my pleasure to bring these videos to all of the quilting community!!! Thank you so much for your sweet comment!!!
I love how you can use half square triangles to make different quilts. Thanks for the instruction!😊❤
Hi Jeanie, they are the block that keeps on giving!!!
What beautiful gifts for all 3! I love the patterns you used. I love your dogs! Big dogs are my favorites!
Hi Michele, big dogs are our favorite too!!!
I sew for our local NICU. These quilts are so cute and quick. I just love them. I will just make them smaller for my babies'. Thank you for the free patterns. I use my own money to sew for the NICU by choice.
That's wonderful!!! Remember that when you do the HST's this way they end up with the bias on the outside. This didn't cause me any issues but I have been reminded of it in several comments and feel I should say be very careful with the pressing and the handling so you don't stretch them out of square. Thank you for all you are doing for that local NICU, you are amazing!!!
I just found your channel. Really enjoyed it. Your a great encouragement for those of us who love sewing. Sending a big hug from an American in Italy. 😊
Yvonne, Hug received and returned to you as well!!!! Thank you so much for such a nice comment, you really made my day!!! And to think somebody is watching this little South Carolina girl all the way in Italy!!!!
Love these! Great job Mom!
Such cute little quilts! 🥰 I had that same issue with a short ruler..so I went to Lowe’s and picked up one of their long metal rulers…I believe they’re five foot. I added some none slip dots to the back and they do exactly what I need. They’re so handy.
I have some for my drapery business that are even longer and they are 2" wide which is just the width I need for cording. I'm glad you liked the quilts!!!
Good husband 👏 … 3 great kids quilts ❤
He's just the best!!! Thank you for your comment!!!
I love all three layouts. It is great to take something simple life HSTs and make something that looks more complicated than it is. They will make great baby gifts!
Hi Denise, thank you for your comment! I just love the HST for that very reason, its so versatile!!!
This was such fun! Thank you! That purple pattern is new to me! Looks original!
Hi Sherry, I don't remember seeing it either but I wouldn't be so bold as to say its original!! Lots of quilters before me, I'm sure someone has done it!!!
For me, this is amazing to visit the Walmart here and see what is going on with their material
Its interesting, isn't it! Kind of tells you what is going on with our whole country doesn't it.
Lovely quilts. So sweet to think of all the children. ❤
Hi Blair, I can't wait to give them to them. She has already had the baby and I haven't wanted to bother them just yet. We are going to get together next week!!!
Hi, your website had just popped up. I love your 3 quilts and your 3 quilts are beautiful! ❤❤ what a great job and i enjoyed how you made the quilt gbigger half square triangles t 21:28
Thank you so much! I'm really happy that you liked the video!
Oh my gosh your dog was also presenting the quilts? How 🥰. I love the diamond one.... But really all of them were darling quilts!❤
He was wasn't he!!! That was Ranger, he is a mastiff! Glad you enjoyed the video!!!
So versatile from one block
Hi Sandra, thats how HST roll!!!!
Omg! Super cute! They came out so nice. I can't wait to see what you'll do next time.
Btw. You look gorgeous even without makeup 😊
Hi Lisa, that is so sweet of you to say!! Honestly, putting on the makeup is the hardest part of this youtube thing!!! Hahahah!!!
Great demo on how to cut bias binding thankyou
Thank you!!! I make so much bias strips for my drapery workroom that I figured I would share the knowledge!!!
Beautiful quilts to be treasured and loved!! Love that Mastiff baby at the end! I have an English Mastiff as my quilting buddy, he has his own cot in the sewing room so he can be near whenever I'm creating. He's a very clingy boy!💙
I love my big babies. I have three great danes and two mastiffs and have found the mastiffs are definitely my shadows!!! Thank you for your sweet comment!!!

😀
Beautiful colors for the baby quilt.
Hi Lucille, thank you so much! Have a great day!!
Love the quilts....wish to be talented as you are!!
Shellie, that is so sweet of you to say! Thank you so much!!!
Thank you 😊 for using local businesses like the ones I use 😊 these turned out wonderful. Walmart will be getting rid of all of their bolt fabrics. I got a ton of it on sale 😊
Hi Melissa, looks like my walmart may even be getting rid of the fabric department all together, what about yours? Thank you for your comment!
Great idea! I am binge watching RUclips quilting channels as I am recovering from a really bad shoulder break. Since I can't sew, I am planning all my sewing for the next 5 years! Thanks for having a great show today.
Hi Rhonda, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!!! Don't we all have at least 5 years of ideas in our heads!!! If only we had time to make them all!!! I hope you recover very quickly!!!!
I’m binge watching too after a Total Knee Replacement, feeling very sorry for myself as I am in awful pain 😩 However, your videos are giving me lots of ideas and when I can sit long enough to sew, I will be off and making more quilt tops! Thank you 😘
Ouch Daisy, take care of that knee. A friend just had that done and said it is so painful!!! I will keep both of you in mind when making the next video and hopefully there will be lots of laughs and great instructions for you all!!!
So sorry about your shoulder & for that knee. 😢 Heal well & quickly, both of you! The textile industry needs you!!😊
Amen to that Lesa!!!
So beautiful.... Love all the colors you chose.
Thank you Kim, I'm so glad you liked them!!!
Love the tip about using the mat to cut straight on long pieces of fabric! This will be a game changer.
Glad I put something out there that will be of help to you!!!
You reminded me how much I love HSTs.
They are so versatile!!!!
I love all the quilts. What a great idea.
Hi Roxanne, I'm so glad you liked them, they were a blast to make!!!
You forgot to introduce the happy dog! 😆
Hi Barbara, that is Ranger and he is indeed a happy happy dog!!!!
I love all of the examples of quilts that you were able to get with just on block
Hi Susan, Thank you so much! I love HST for just that reason!!!
Thank you for the design ideas for making a quick quilt, and thank you for the tip about keeping the rotary cutter in place as you move the ruler.
You are so welcome! Glad you found the tip helpful!!!
I love all three quilts but the purple layout is my favorite! Great job! I sure hope our Walmart doesn’t quit selling fabric from bolts! Love your show!
Hi Glenda, Thank you so much, I'm so excited the folks like my channel!!! I will keep my fingers crossed for your walmart's fabric department!!!
im so glad my walmart is keeping their cutting station only one around me
Jeanne, I was just at my walmart and they are having a total store redo. I think they are absolutely getting rid of the craft items, so sad!!!! Thank you for your comment and stay quilting!!!
they look beautiful
Thank you Lynette!!!
Hello. This is a great video. Thank you! ⚘️
Thank you so much Margaret, I'm glad you enjoyed it!!!
Going to be wonderful gifts and I’m sure they will be loved. Just a comment about the way you were doing half square triangles. When you sew them and cut them like that, all your outside edges will be bias. You just need to be a little more careful nice podcast.
Hi Jan, I wish I had included that information in the video so that when folks make it they know to handle them carefully!! Thanks for the comment!!!
All 3 quilts turned out awesome. Purple one is my favorite. 😊
Hi Debbie, It is really striking, isn't it!! Thanks for the comment!!!
They are all 3 beautiful quilts!
Thank you Christine, I really appreciate your comment!!!
There are so creative! I love how the solid fabrics became the focus & layer cakes seem to be the background. Can’t pick a favorite!
That is what struck me too!!! And because of that I was able to save some of the more vibrant layer cake pieces from the baby quilt to use in an upcoming project!!!
@@AmericanaQuilting I think missing the original date ended up being a good thing then the girls could really enjoy the focus of a gift for them. Love your helpers!
So right, I am catching up with Jennifer and her, NOW, three girls next week!!! I can't wait to see the baby!!!
@@AmericanaQuilting Awesome!! Babies are a blessing! Giving all y’all hugs from Vegas!
Thank you Vivian from Vegas!!!
The quilts look all so nice! I need to make a few baby quilts. ❤
This is a great, quick, fun way to get some quilts done!!!
My Walmart sold their bolts about a year ago for $1 a yard. You had to buy the bolt.....for $8. I bought a bunch of them to be used as backing for charity quilts. Most were girlie in nature...one flannel for a child.
I'm telling you Debora, soon the only place to buy fabric will be online or at a quilt show!!! At least we got a good deal!!!
Love your designs.
Thank you again Janice!!!
HST are the best, love all your designs. That purple one is really interesting, would have never thought of that, but it really works. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Diana, Thank you so much for your lovely comment!!!
Beautiful quilts.
Thank you so much!!!
💜 Your Dog
Thanks Melody, they are wonderful to have around!!!
I just found you ,,... love your fast and easy quilts. Looking forward to watching MORE of your work. Thank you!!!
Betty, you really made my day, thank you so much!!!
Those are beautiful. It's amazing to see 3 designs from the same block. Love them.
Thank you Nancy, I really enjoyed playing with the different designs!!!
thank heavens i do not live close to your walmart. i think you showed remarkable restraint in fabric purchasing. and thank you for sharing your quilts. i'm going to make one like your aqua baby quilt--love that pattern
Hi Penny, I'm not sure how much restraint I showed, I didn't leave much there!!!! Glad you got inspired!!! Stay Quilting!!!
Great job
Thank you!!!
I do love all of these and the versatility of that block!! Thank you for sharing!!
Great block for sure and so much fun to make!!!!
Really cute quilts. Thank you for the video 😊
Thank you for watching it!!!
I absolutely LOVE all 3 quilt patterns! I am going to have to make them also. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Linda, I'm so glad you liked them, they were really fun to make!!!
Love this video! Wonderful quilts - amazing challenge! Thanks for filming your process!
Thank you for watching and commenting!!! These videos are a labor of love for me!!! Love to quilt and love to share what I know with others!!!
Beautiful, love the purple design.
Hi Michelle, Thank you so much, I thought that one was really unique!!!
Very creative with your projects. Love all of them , same motifs but looks totally different . Thank you for sharing .
You are so welcome! HST are just so cool that way!!!
The purple one is so cool and unique. It is my favorite! Not so much a fan of the pink one but I am sure the new mana's will all love their quilt! It's been awhile since I made an hst quilt. I need to play around with some new ideas that I have procrastinated on.
If you are like me you have so many ideas running around in your brain calling out pick me pick me that sometimes it's just hard to choose what to do next!!!
Absolutely gorgeous! ❤❤ Thank you for inspiring me!😊😊❤what about your quilt labels??? Very important!
Hi Julie, I'm so happy that something I have done inspired you, high praise indeed!!!
Feeling physically ill as quilting fabric in Australia costs about $28 a metre. I’m happy for quilters in the US, but can’t help but think we are being taken for a ride here.
Gosh I can't even imagine spending that much!!! I have had some success finding fabrics at thrift stores, mens 100% cotton shirts are a great source of inexpensive fabric!!! Best of luck and thank you for commenting all the way from Australia!!!!
Nope, never paid that much, here in Australia.
@@sueharcombe4985 You must let me know where you shop, as apart from Spotlight (which is also getting dearer lately), all the quilting shops in and around Brisbane charge that much, and the ones I have visited in Sydney and Melbourne do as well. I have found that Australian online shops are no different. I am always interested in finding places that sell quilting fabric for less, and would love your input 🥰
OMG Sue, share your secrets with Daisy!!!😎
I love your channel. You’re a great teacher. 🎉
Awww Thank you Cynthia, that is really nice to hear!!!
Great way to make HST’s! Love the quilts.
Thank you so much, this was a really fun challenge!!!
I need to make some half square blocks. I surely do like your layouts.
Thank you Diane, really appreciate your comment!!!
We only have one WalMart in Vegas that still sells fabric by the bolt. Guess I'm heading there in the morning.
Not all Walmarts are doing this. I called my local walmart asking if I could potentially buy their cutting table (they have to send it back to headquarters) and she said only the walmarts that aren't selling fabric well are getting rid of the bolts. Hopefully, yours will still carry some fabric for you. Or hopefully you will find some amazing deals!!! Either way Stay Quilting!!!!
Oh wow!!!! Great deal!
It sure was!!!
Our Walmart now sells in one yard, two yards and three yard precuts. It also sells fat quarters. It is much better than what they used to have. I have been pretty excited about it.
Sweet, maybe they will have a better selection of precuts now!! Looking forward to seeing what they do with the department!!!
Hello from Alaska, usually up here we do not get any of the sales or discounts that the Lower 48 get. I was super surprised today to find that our local WalMart had marked down some of their prints and solids. (you had to scan each one with the store app to make sure you got a clearance bolt) Not near the discounts you got but was excited to see the discounts we got. Needless to say my daughter and I managed to go to 2 different WalMart Stores and purchased a bunch of bolts of solids and prints. Thanks for the heads up. Our Stash is now overflowing
Lena, thats fantastic!!!! Have you tried thrift stores? I love to buy mens 100% cotton shirts for some fun solids, stripes and some little prints too!!! My cousin and her husband live in Alaska. She was on the show Alaska State Troopers, she was the tiny grey (prematurely grey) headed woman and her husband would fly her out to the various villages. Thank you so much for watching and commenting!!
You are so delightful! My dogs are snoring while I work😂
Isn't it just wonderful to have the company of dogs!!!!
I love them. Love the colors. You make me wish I had computerized quilting lol. I'm going to Walmart here see if we have a sale going on. It was great seeing your family. 😊❤
Hi Lynn, Family is just the best!!! Good luck at your local Walmart!!!
I’ve done HST like that a few times but I heard from another quilter that drawing the line from corner to corner and sewing 1/4” on both sides and cutting on the drawn line is better because then you’re not having the bias on the outside edge of your HST - hope that makes sense.
I have heard that also. Hence, why I sew diagonally & then cut.
Makes perfect sense! I love the draw and sew 1/4" away method. It was just really fun to try a new and simple way. These weren't getting manipulated very much so everything stayed nice and straight!!!
Love all three patterns! Great video and ideas for the Layer Cakes. Thank you!
Thank you so much!!!!
All beautiful, first time I have seen your channel, subscribed and thank you for sharing!
Nanette, thank you so much for subscribing!!!!
Love all 3 of the quilts.
Thanks Vera, I really appreciate your comments!!!
Cool video! Ty
Hi Karen, so glad you liked it, thanks for commenting!!!
Great video! Thanks for showing us how you do bias binding. It's always interesting to see how others do things. I wish my cutting surface was as deep as yours; that would make things a lot easier.
I designed my workroom from a drapery workroom standpoint so its very large!!! I love my workroom, one of these days I really need to give a tour on youtube!!!
Thank you ❤
Hi Kathy, I really appreciate your comment!!!
Thank U so much ! I enjoyed listening to U because I have been getting better from Covid side affects! I thoroughly enjoyed! Thank U so much❤
Sandra, I hope you are getting better every minute!!! Glad you chose to play my video during your recovery!!! I hope it made you smile!!! Thank you for the comment and get better very soon!!!
Love this tutorial!
Hi Karla, thank you so very much for the lovely comment!!!
Your quilts turned out beautifully!
Thank you so much, they were so much fun to make!!!
My Walmart has a small selection of bolted fabrics but there is no sales associate to cut. I even pushed the button for help at the cutting table and no one comes. No wonder they are changing to pre-cuts.
Isn't that par for the course anymore, nobody wants to go to work!!!
When no one answers the bell/ buzzer I use my cell phone to call the store and request an associate.
Penny that's a brilliant idea!!! I usually walk to the electronics department and ask there. I guess a lot of us won't have to worry about it anymore since they are not going to be cutting anymore in a lot of their stores!!!
Yes at mine too usually
Hopefully they will get more people hired soon so that the stations can be better manned!!!
Beautiful work!
Thank you so much, that really means a lot!!!
Our Walmart here in Rhode Island has begun marking down their fabrics. They’re $3 per yard right now.
Keep an eye on them, they may go down further!!!
How wonderful, I love your channel and your wonderful tutorials. I haven’t made a quilt yet but love watching you and getting inspiration. Thank you for sharing your time, love and blessings x
Hi Julie, its been a real pleasure to do these videos! Thank you for watching!!
That was great! Thanks for sharing.
Take care❤
Hi Diane, thank you for commenting, glad you liked the video!!!
You are my hero!!! Loved this video and your enthusiasm!! Also, I had a drapery/soft furnishings workroom when my children were young!! I loved my workroom. I didn’t start quilting until later in life. I love quilting now and have made draperies for my own (retirement) home, but quilting and making clothes for my self are what I love. I do love making outfits for my grands too though! I have subscribed and cannot wait for more of your videos!!! All the best and God bless. Also loved the feet under the quilts being held up - my husband’s feet are in all my photos of my quilts!!! LOL!😊
Hi Cindy, I'm so glad you enjoyed the video!!! I have been doing draperies for almost 20 years and have really enjoyed the work. Getting kind of tired now and can't wait for the day when I can just quilt full time!!!!! Where are you from and when did you retire from your workroom?
These look fabulous!! Thanks for the video. And you looked fine at the beginning.
Maria, you are wonderful! Thank you so much for your kind words!!!
About 18 months ago Walmart got rid of the cutting table here in Dallas. Also quilt batting is hard to find. Only precut batting bags are available. Solid white 100% cotton is rarely avaiable. Great ideas for quick baby gifts! Thanks.
I'm telling you pretty soon we will all be buying on line only!!!! Your longarmer should be able to get the white 100% cotton for your quilts. Thanks so much for your comment!!!
So cute to introduce the “kids🥰” 1st time here, much enjoyed!
All about family!!! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!!!!
I love the quilt, I usually make baby quilts 40 x 48 at least. This makes them big enough to go all the way to a twin topper. The only thing I wouldn’t do is the half square triangle method you used. This method makes all your edges bias and difficult for a quilter with little or no experience.
Hi Mimi, I wish I had put a caution in the video. Push for starching and careful handling. Having said that they didn't give me one lick of trouble. I like the bigger baby quilts too!!! Thank you so much for your comment!!
Love the layout of the pink and purple quilts. I hate HST's but your quilts make me wanna try some more.
Go for it Sandy, this was a really rewarding project!!!
Happy Birthday! I would send you a clone to do all of your work. That leaves you free to stitch and enjoy your family 🎉🎉🎉
Those clones must be under the money tree!!! If you ever find it let me know!!! Thanks for your comment!!!!
Great quilts. Thanks for the tutorial and free pattern.
Hi Judy, you are very welcome!!
Walmart in Canada stopped selling fabric about 15 yrs ago. The fabric didn’t sell that inexpensive back then.
Lucky you!
What a shame!!! Hope you have a local quilt store. I have had a lot of luck at local thrift stores getting mens 100% cotton shirts for quilting and sometimes I even find someones fabric stash being sold there!!!
Luckily we do have a local quilt shop. Average cost is about $20.00+ per metre ($18.00 per yard). JoAnn's nor Hobby Lobby are here. We do have a Fabricland but they are significantly more expensive and the quality is not usually as good as the quilt store.@@AmericanaQuilting
Wow, that almost makes quilting out of most peoples price range!!! No wonder so many people do scrap quilts now, they can't afford to waste anything!!!! I have just completed finishing and quilting some vintage hexagon quilts for a client and they were made up of old clothes!!! We will be uploading a video on them soon!!! I guess all this scrap quilting is just going back to our quilting roots!!!
My closest Walmart is 45 miles away, and then after that we have 6 more with 60 miles. They haven't carried fabric on the bolt in over a year now, and a couple of them do not even have the precut, or craft departments, so I think you got a tremendous deal, and should definitely try to find more! I just love Hst - so versatile!!!! I like all three layouts but LOVE the purple one. Thanks for the inspiration, as always!
Hi Amanda, You must live even more out in the country than I do!!! I think a lot of folks are really liking that purple one!!! Thanks for commenting!!!
@AmericanaQuilting I am from rural TX panhandle!
Love Texas!!!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for so much love!!!
Sew cute!
Thank you so much!!!!
Our Walmart didn't sell the bolts.. they sent them back to the DC. But they got rid of everything except precuts.
I was in my walmart the other day and I think they are getting rid of everything!!!!
Those are very beautiful
Thank you Sonya, that is very kind of you!!!
I have to make 20 quilts by Christmas! I’m on quilt 2. Yikes!
Girl! That is an ambitious number of quilts in a very small window!!! HST's are your answer!!!
the dog in the background looks just like my granddog Maggie.
I think the one that you are talking about is Ranger, one of our mastiffs, love him!!!
