    I discovered the little cutting mats at thhe Dollar (twenty-five) Tree which are now saving me lots of money on not buying a new large mat since i began using them to trim small patches & hsts. Plus, they are easy to turn or put on the rotating mat, which saves it as well.
    I've now watched a few of your videos thanks to my friend Maggie. Many Blessings to you!

I square them to the nearest 1/4 inch and sort them by size. I’m doing this since years and I have a bunch of them now from 1 inch to 4 inches. Eventually I will do a project with them, I have already wrote down idea of design.

    • @merrymabelmarket
      @merrymabelmarket  4 месяца назад

      Marti Mitchell has a short called the "Four Patch Swirl" and there are people who swear by that. (You can google it and see.) I've tried to make it happen and I just don't think it matters enough to take the time. Also, if you don't want to make sure the thread breaks so that it can twist on back - it is also less bulky to just press the seam open. (I have been known to do that.) Generally though - I just press as shown in my video - because speed and a longarm are important to me and it is flat enough. Batting is the great equalizer. And I'm careful when I quilt to go right through those centers and nail them down.

    • @merrymabelmarket
      @merrymabelmarket  4 месяца назад +1

      It sounds good to me, but I haven't used that method for ever - so I don't dare advice you. Try it and see? Probably no trimming needed.

    • @kim_4448
      @kim_4448 4 месяца назад +1

      A 5 inch square will yield 2 - 4.5” unfinished hst (4 inch finished). Draw a diagonal line corner to corner, sew 1/4 in on each side, cut on diagonal line, then trim. the formula is finished sized plus 7/8”, but you have to be exact on your cutting and quarter inch, so easiest to take finished size and add an inch then trim down. You could do the easy eight method with a layer cake to get 8 4 in finished (4.5 in unfinished) hst. Look up 8 at a time HST and there are lots of videos and instructions on how to do it. Good luck!
