I want to play Anya. She is a huge inspiration to me. I will go out in public completely acting out journey to the past. All my friends say I have to play her. I just connect with her character on so many levels. My great grandparents immigrated to America from Russia. My dad is full blood Russia and I am half blood. It's just another part of my heritage. I mean when you grow up with a Russian grandfather of course you are going to hear the story of Anastaisa and all the legends with her. Thank you Christy for creating a beautiful character that touches so many lives and inspires

My family's name was changed to. But I don't blame him for changing his name from Olafson to Norman when his first name was Olaf.
    Yes, that's right.
    Olaf Olafson.

This is so cool! I was adopted from Russia as a baby and know nothing about my biological family, so I feel like I need to go do this now!

My Great-grandfather was kidnapped by and raised by his Godparents. We have no idea who his real parents were so my family's name is not our real name.

Lawrence Martin Maybe his real parents were bad people? I would like to know about the story if you don't mind of course

Yaritza Miranda - Of course, I don't mind at all. Well his real family was from Mexico. He was 'kidnapped' during the 1910 Revolution where they forced foreigners out of Mexico.
One the theories we have is that since it was the revolution his real family may have given him up to the Godparents who probably were foreigners which meant they would be forced in to the United States and give my great-grandfather a slightly more promising life here.
Another is that maybe his family were on the Government side and they were fleeing to the US. Maybe his parents didn't survive and left him orphaned. Maybe the Godparents were fleeing too and raised him as their own.
Or maybe he actually was kidnapped. Mexico was extremely lawless then and it would've been very easy for that to happen.
During the 60s he went back to Mexico for work. While he was there he had radio stations broadcast the message that he was searching for his family. He received no answer. We honestly have no clue as to who his family where, for what motive he was kidnapped or given up, or what our real last name is. Sometimes it's quite eerie to think that there's forever going to be a family that we lost and my family's name is an adoptive name .

Lawrence Martin Oh wow that's fascinating, so sad he didn't find his blood relatives, but at least he was raised by loving people so there's that. That's why I love science it allows us to know more about our past than ever before

People forget one important factor. Those immagrants did it legally. They gave their life savings to come, some one at a time so they would be legal and not have trouble. My greatgrandparents are perfect examples of that and their names are in Ellis Island's records.
