I was at this show. The full story should be mentioned here - we in the parking lot were out there waiting, being told the pumpkins may or may not be able to come out depending on whether the weather let up. These show usually ran about an hour live (there's an interview section not included here) - but this ran about 3 hours because the pumpkins basically refused to leave until they'd played for all of us waiting in the parking lot (we were standing there for several hours before the show, during the first set, and during the interview being told pretty much nothing by staff). It got to the point where they ran out of interview questions and just started running full SP music videos with minor commentary from the band in between. We didn't know what the hell was going on, but they came out and it was beautiful. On an interview that ran later, Billy said basically there was no way they were going to leave without playing for us outside. As a 14 year old budding musician at the time, that was such a revelation.
Such a great comment to put this performance in perspective. Much respect to the Smashing Pumpkins for putting on one hell of a show after so many changes and delays due to the weather.

As a long time SP fan, remember well how much this great band was played with love and respect on CFNY 102.1 - Toronto's alt-rock station. Disc jockeys loved em, fans loved em and we still do today. Bravo to a great performance here from a truly marvelous mystical magical band.
I remember this night in 1998 clearly. I wanted to watch this as it aired live on TV but i couldn't because that same night out west in Vancouver i was going to see Pearl Jam live who were in town touring behind their "Yield" album w/ Frank Black (Pixies) & the Catholics as the opening act. So before i left i popped in a videotape into my VCR & programed it to record it.
One of the best concerts ever broadcast on television. I recorded this on VHS the night it originally aired and have watched it many many times. It still gives me chills every time, especially "For Martha' and "Shame", amazing concert
If I ever get my hands on a time machine I'm gonna be a person who abuses it by going back to some RUclips comments on some sick music, finding a few folks who would appreciate a journey, and then going back in time on a tour of all the concerts. All the good ones at least 😏 ..since I'm the guy bringing the machine, first stops are gonna be very Pumpkiny 😎
Toronto and Canada so much love for the glory and pure talent of the Smashing Pumpkins on full display here. Proud of my hometown and home and native land. The band always felt the love from Canadians and reciprocated. Beautiful!
I loved this in 1998 and I still love it. Thank you so much for having the last 15 minutes which no one else (it seems) was able to capture. (It re-aired without the encores.)
Hey!!! Anyone else notice he looks RIGHT AT D'arcy just before he sings the lines "we can't help but feel / that something has been lost" It's just after the camera guy almost tries to get in his face And he playfully pushes the cameraman down... and almost as if he had a foot on the stage or something he kinda spins around to do a 360 and ends up facing down d'arcy... anyway, I just say this because I've seen SP so many times he def glances at people and things from time to time... but to me at least, this looked Ike more than just a glance. Anyone else catch it? Or lol that famous video of by starlight where she hits a wrong note and he FUCKING GLARES at her like "how VERY dare you!?" I think it's a show where Billy may have worn a tie .. In case anyone should care to find it. Anyway curious if anyone else notice these things and might even possibly agree
Thank you so much for this. I had recorded this on VHS as well the night it aired. I lost my copy but looks like I can reminisce once again. Have a great weekend everyone.
This was the only tour I missed starting with MCIS (I had started uni the same year as this tour) and I kind of regret it. The album is amazing but the live interpretations were really great.
As much as I love Ava Adore, Billy seemed to rush/butcher all the vocals in every performance. It was as if he hated performing it. Anyone else feel that way?
I've always wondered why Billy wanted to do this faster harder version of Ava Adore an not the album version? I love the album version but I dig how they were performing it too. Maybe since the album was mostly slower songs to please a live audience he wanted to change this one? Who knows, I doubt that he hated playing it live though. I haven't actually watched a lot of SP performances from after Machina til about Oceania. Did they perform Ava Adore very much or was it hardly included in shows?
You can’t make something have more resolution than it originally had (this was probably taped off the TV. This is what things looked like back then). …I mean, okay yes, now you can do all kinds of AI stuff but that takes serious time.
The percussion section for this tour was a fucking joke. The band still had a decent sound, but I really think Billy didn't have any idea of what to do after Jimmy left.

we were there, front row, backstage. worth the hours of waiting! unforgettable memories *even sitting on Queen St for 15-20 hours the day before!

LIES!!!!
Strongest, most in-tune, most controlled I've ever heard Billy's voice sound live

I remember the date of this show for the same reason.
SO happy Jimmy made it all the way back from his demons. Kenny Aronoff here does a tremendous job filling in for Chamberlin's outstanding kit work.
Kenny Aronoff. He is a first rate session drummer. Jimmy Chamberlain is an out of this world great drummer. As a drummer I too am happy he survived.
@@dirtydave2691 Although Kenny Aronoff is a good drummer - You can't beat Jimmy Chamberlain.
@@cellar9264 I agree 100%. Jimmy Chamberlain is incredible even in there real early live videos. He is the Neil Peart of alternative music.
@@dirtydave2691 Jimmy C has a unique sound and a way of playing that looks effortless, but sounds immense. He is my favorite drummer of all time!

The Adore tour was magnificent. The musicians playing with the band were amazing.

Salute...from 🇲🇾
I miss those days where you'd wait by the vcr with a brand new cassette.
Shame is beautifully played in this concert ❤
What about Pug??
I too have it on Video I recorded it as well and was at the New World Music theatre show 7/7/98
What the heck was that version of bullet with butterfly wings ?!?!? Fucking brilliant
I remember they said the Pumpkins might not be coming out to play in the parking lot and everyone was yelling "MTV,MTV,MTV,MTV!
What can I say now at the end of this show except: thank you for sharing, and D'Arcy please: COME BACK PLEASE.
This may be the best version of Bullet I have ever seen. All those drums! Imagine both Kenny and Jimmy back there.

Finally, I've found this. To me it has the best live version of "Shame" and "Bullet with Butterfly Wings".

Adore's by far my favourite Pumpkins album!
I was there! Epic show.
Great live of SP!
I was infront of Darcy front row when the band finally came out to the parking lot
If I had been that close to D'Arcy, I might have needed a towel to clean up.
I love you Billy. You are gorgeous
Wow, D’Arcy was the last member to leave the stage.
love her !
Moscow 1998. One of the best shows in my life!

As usual their sound much better and more agresive than albums when they perform live in concert .that's SP rule.
pUG ... SUCH A GREAT SONG
Always had the tv version of the taped on vhs. Didn’t know they played other songs like once upon and time and pug.
Thank you so much for this.

Holy shit, is Billy playing an Ibanez during BWBW?
They needed a bassist who could play.

Check out videos from their current tour (2018). They're playing the album version of Ava Adore now and it sounds great.

I like better the machina era gigs
Those ‘99/00 shows were them at their absolute best.
Wow this drummer is terrible. Why is every song in 3x speed? Sounds awful.
Billy's ego is out of control on Ava Adore
What a crappy set list
Worst drummer ever been on a band I like
Going through the motions comes to mind. This was horrible.
Terrible version of Bullet With Butterfly Wings.
