This video completely ignores the lazy writing, and lack of continuity in the story. There are so many plot flaws. Things like, why were 5 jedi knights collecting plants for 7 weeks on a supposedly "uninhabitable" planet, that also somehow had an old mining fortress? How about Venestra telling Yoda about the Sith, then Yoda sitting in a council meeting in Phantom Menace and talking about how the Sith haven't been seen in thousands of years.

If there's actual plot holes I want to hear about them. But the ones you mentioned are wrong. They explained why they were on the planet. And venestra never told yoda about the sith.
Oh here we go again with the "lazy writing". Leslye Headland is an acclaimed screenwriter. She has an impressive resume. While this is in no way a guarantee to succes, WHO are you to claim the writing is lazy or bad? And as for the "plot holes". Humans have inhabited earths for millennia and we're still discovering new things everyday. We don't know what Venestra will discuss with Yoda. Feel free to dislike the Acolyte, but I think it was a solid show.

You're right. But I have yet to hear a valid criticism of the story, most the points i've heard brought up were speculations that got proven wrong, or misunderstanding the plot. Except maybe the part where quimir gets swept up by giant bats. That was weird.
Maybe there's something to be said about osha picking up force choke and immediately bleeding a crystal. But given in this story, the twins are the same person, perhaps they can tap into eachothers power
I stopped at "since it debuted it's one of the most if not the most viewed show on all major platforms." Bridgerton, Eric, Sweet tooth all had better viewership.

Don't defend it in favor of Disney LucasFilm. This show breaks cannon in multiple ways. Anakin IS SPECIAL because he was created by the force and he did bring balance. He was misguided and manipulated, he did make bad decisions but when it came down to it he realized he has to help his son an stop listening to the one person who ruined his life. Introducing more children created with the force lazily copies and at the same time undermines Lucas' creation. Also by the end of the Acolyte MULTIPLE JEDI like Ki-Adi Mundi and Yoda apparently know that there are Sith out there but they haven't done anything about it and then suddenly pretend not to know in The Phantom Menace when Qui-Gon is telling them about Maul...
This show is badly written, the character decisions don't make sense. Take the girls for example: one wants to be a witch and stay with the witches, the other wants to go with the Jedi and be a Jedi. Well let them go their separate ways and there would be no drama, but no, the characters have to act stupidly because otherwise we won't have a show. Then the bad one who killed 3 jedi decides to become good and spare the one who killed her mother, but the good one becomes bad and kills him because she just realized she's been lied to... The Jedi were portrayed as incompetent and kidnappers, when any sane person who comes across a sect and discovers they have children with them would be worried and try to take the children to safety.
Bringing Plagueis and Yoda into this show is the biggest crime against Star Wars. If Sith killed everyone and disappeared this show wouldn't be breaking cannon and I could excuse it's existence, but the way Disney do things to CONSTANTLY CONTRADICT George Lucas' films and established lore is inexcusable and fans are sick and tired of it. This is the reason for the low ratings.
I don't care about this show and I can't forget about it fast enough. I''ll keep watching Lucas' 6 original films, I'll keep reading the EU (Legends) books and comics, keep playing the old games because they're much more faithful to the source material and actually build around and enhance it.
When did Yoda or Ki Adi Mundi have evidence of the Sith in this series?

If this incompetent and lying "Jedi" woman can deceive some politicians I don't think she can deceive Jedi masters. This show is trying so hard to portray the Jedi as incompetent, bad, liars and kidnappers but they aren't. The Jedi are the people who strive to be the best they can ever be, do the right thing, tell the truth, train to be strong and fight against evil. The only person who managed to deceive Jedi and lie to them was Palpatine. The green lady is no Jedi and no Palpatine either.
The Jedi are the good guys, the sith were hiding for a thousand years until the Phantom Menace and no badly made show can change what was established in Lucas' films.
@@mr_z_____ I don't think she ever see's a Sith. All she "knows" is that her fallen former padawan was involved. Fallen Jedi aren't automatically Sith. Also not all Jedi are good, they too can be corrupt and have political machinations. In the EU there is a story of an entire group of Jedi killing their padawans because they had a vision. How is that good?
Edit: furthermore, the Sith weren't just hiding they were making plans and moves to over throw the republic and kill the Jedi from the moment Bane killed all the sith to the Moment Palpatine declared the new galactic empire. For thousands of years there were moving pieces to be Victorious, and they did it.
I don't automatically like everything in the EU, I enjoy the stories which go well with the movies. Everything that contradicts the movies or presents characters in an uncharacteristic way I don't accept. I don't accept what Disney did to the original trio in the Sequels and I certainly don't accept The Acolyte's stupid portrayal of the Jedi and Sith.
@@mr_z_____ I loved Star Wars but I have to admit it's only one good movie and a bunch of cool moments. The world and the lore are far more interesting than the individual stories and the best thing in the entirety of Star Wars are the Bane Trilogy books.
"Far removed," there are multiple characters shown that are still alive, and even if there weren't, 100 years is not far removed. We still deal with fallout of things 200 years ago

This video is just gaslighting. Most of the complaints have been around the story and the characters. They have no real consistent motives and change plot details. The main one being Sol killing the mother as a tragic accident rather than protecting a child whilst she turns into a black force monster and devolving her child.... The show completely ignores this. And wtf was the stupid gerbal in the show for? One minute they can find ppl with the force one minute they need the stupid creature.... Who randomly sabotages sol for literally no reason
If you don't like silly characters… don't watch Star Wars I guess? Bazil wasn't my favorite character either, but you probably forgot about the Ewoks, Fiery Figran Da'n and the Modal Nodes, Jar Jar and Salacious B. Crumb?

Why did he sabotage Sol? Also not even hinted at explaining this. Maybe he's a secret sith like jar jar

Yesterday, I binged the entire series and purposely didn’t view any reviews, etc.
It is way nicer to experience the content this way. You can see it in one go, which sometimes is nice for a series. But also, you don’t get this negative picture because of all the opinions online.
In the future, this will be my new way to watch content without being tainted by other opinions, which ultimately reduces my enjoyment.
I didn't mind the show for the actors. I thought everyone put in a commendable performance. What I do take issue with are the glaring plot holes and weak story line. For example in the very first episode the protagonist is framed for a murder committed by the sister, which is fine, a decent plot device to introduce the second protagonist. However she literally works on a spaceship across the galaxy under contract. The jedi while acting like cops never think to ask the owners of the ship for a time-card which would prove her innocence. Instead of giving the ship a holo-call that would take five minutes they send two jedi and a padawan across the galaxy and throw the girl on a prison barge then head immediately back to Coruscant.... Why? Even if they didn't have proof of work rendered by the protagonist why would they bother packing her onto a prison transport if they were going to head directly back to where they planned on taking her... it's like if cops arrested you then radioed in for a prison transport to take you back into the station.
There's just a million dumb decisions the characters do to service the plot which makes the viewer apathetic to any reasoning or motivation of the characters because they all seem like idiots. The weakness in the plot poisoned the well for the character's actions making any decision they make feel inane and unfocused at best.
Why did the evil twin meet the still masked 'sith' at a remote beach so he could turn his lightsaber on for no reason when he would see her every day at his little shop without her knowing?
Why did the two moms decide they had to induct their girls into the force coven that night when they knew there was a group of jedi watching them?
Why bother getting poison to kill a jedi when she couldn't touch him through his force bubble the first time?
If Darth Plageus was the guy creeping in the cave why was his apprentice training new sith? (the rule of 2 was for SURE a thing at this point)
On their own these actions aren't show breaking but when it's just one after another the characters all seem incapable of rational thought. It's not because the actors did a bad job, it's because they were written to service a plot regardless of how foolish that plotline makes the character. It was lazy writing, and that's FINE for the average NBC fall show or umpteenth FOX teen drama. But when a show is based on a beloved franchise (on a subscription service) that was made famous by it's characters set in a space opera you best tighten up the writing and give the fan base character's they can love.
Stop shilling for Disney.

Liking or disliking something is a matter of taste. There is no right or wrong. Considering the viewership was in the toilet, I wouldn't call this just an "internet" reaction. Seems like the majority of ppl checked out on this show early.

“Complex characters” they’re only complex because the writing is crap and each characters motivations, intentions and beliefs are more tangled than a bowl of spaghetti. Each episode their actions contradict what they did previously because of reasons and complexity… if you turn your brain off maybe it’ll make sense
It's funny to hear this other side of the argument even though i totally disagree with some of the points that your'e trying to drive in .Personally the only redeeming quality of the Acolyte was the lightsaber fights.The fandom is trully divided which means (at least to me) that there's a problem.
There is no story in this show because one of the most important things in storytelling is the feeling of time, and the series doesn't have any so the plot becomes week. In another hand the plot doesn't make any sense and if I want to break it down I must make a hour long video for RUclips! Characters also don't have any depth, they're stupid, they don't have any certain motivation and goal so they can change their mind when the plot demands! Further more the moral dilemma that show represents for JEDI doesn't work at all, Firstly if Sol and Torbin didn't go there Mea would have burned them all, Secondly Sol did nothing wrong and his act was a unconscious reaction to the smoke demon mom who is also stupid because she must calm her wife and say to Sol the thing she said after rematerialiasing her self around his light saber. I forgot to mention how stupid Sol was to let a man who Cooperated in a JEDI murder and probably killed the original owner of the shop GO WITH A WARNING AND HE IS THE MAIN BAD GUY OF SHOW!! Everything is stupid about this show!!!

I'm sorry but how on earth can you make the claims that the major complaints aren't around the story, the characters ... that's letting slide the acting. There are major plot holes from star wars canon which had been consistent and respected by every other show that's been made by old lucas film studio and even the latest shows from Disney. You don't even address any of the canon breaking elements back in the series to explain it away, it really does show a poor knowledge of the universe of star wars. The characters are quite bland and really don't have much depth too them, literally they do things that go against core established stereotypes from the star wars universe.
Unfortunately I very much doubt you'll look into what the actual fan base is upset about and focus more on the odd few idiots screech into the void and instead focus entirely on wearing Disney's butthole as a hat.
The Acolyte is as poor a series as I have ever watched and despite your attempts to tell me otherwise I find few redeeming qualities in it. There are inconsistencies in the world building, the dialogue is unnatural, the pace glacial. Entire episodes could have been removed without loss to the story.

You made a video doing exactly what you criticize. You only complain about the criticism being done by the toxic fans. The critic is in fact that it breaks well established lore and portraits the yedi in a way that is not inherently good, which the yedi are in the Star Wars universe. It feels like these and many more problems were ignored in order to keep the show as woke and diverse as possible instead of focusing on creating an believable story in the universe, which btw would be possible without even mentioning yedi knights. To just fire back at the fans for not taking the shitshow as a masterpiece is sad. I watched this video in hopes to be enlightened but I’m just reassured.
You had me until about the 7:00 mark when you decided to try to convince us that the backlash is all the "toxic fans." When you try to dismiss criticism like this you sound no better than the very people you are dismissing. It doesn't sound like you tried to listen to the feedback. You are only too happy to wrap it all up with a nice, neat, "toxic fans" bow.
Even if all these fans were only attacking the "woke" content of the show, clearly this kind of content does not appeal to the average Star Wars fan. So why are the creative and production team focusing so much on it? Could it be done in a more subtle way? The unfortunate thing now is that DEI has been pushed so hard that even organic diversity now will be looked at as an agenda. It is the natural, and very predictable, backlash.
Some of what you say in this video, such as "...is fertile ground for compelling character drama," sounds great, but does the show deliver compelling character drama? If a show (or book, or movie) needs to be explained to me, then the authors have failed to convey the story properly.
It is totally wonderful if you like this show. I'm happy for you. I don't begrudge anyone their tastes or preferences. Don't start telling everyone that THEY are wrong because they don't see it like you. Everyone is entitled to their opinion on a show (in this case) for whatever reason, big or small, relevant or not. Let's look at one of these internet critics: The Critical Drinker. What I love about his reviews is that he has a style, and he doesn't preach. He gives his take, and you decide what to do with it. I don't see eye to eye with him on everything. Not even close, but I don't need to because he is not telling me that I'm wrong. Again, he doesn't preach. This video essay is preaching and can get downright condescending.
No one needs to convince me that Lucas' creation wasn't flawed to begin with. I've been watching Star Wars since '81. It was never perfect, but it was engaging and could capture the imagination. Even the Prequel's, which I think are just horrible, have a way of grabbing people. Can the same be said about The Acolyte? Or any of the Disney era Star Wars? While it will for some, apart from "This is the way" from season 1 of The Mandalorian, nothing else from Disney Star Wars has entered the pop culture vernacular.
I don't feel that this video made a compelling argument in defense of this show. I'm not convinced that you were trying to defend the show. You didn't speak with passion, like some of the reviewers that were shown.
