I ordered this and really hope I get the old version. Shady to call it the exact same model when the chipset is so different it should have a slightly different name like V50e
I didn't know these used to be better. I just got one of these and am sending it back because I couldn't walk with it and record a decent video in the early morning. It worked fairly well for stable shots in full daylight but that is about it. It was my first camera so I don't know the differences well but 4k hardly looked any better than 1080p.
Yeah sadly they changed the internals with cheaper parts. Which a lot of these budget cams have done recently.

It's good enough for me I think, even though I haven't tested it out for my intended purpose, which is metal detecting
It's more of a mount issue but from a quick test, I have to adjust the camera angle every time I go from standing up to kneeling to dig and vice versa, and since the screen turns off I have to press the red button first, so I can see the screen to adjust the angle, so that's a little bit annoying, perhaps a chest mount would be better than a neck mount, I can't use a head mount every time because sometimes I wear a head lamp, also I don't know how to make sure the head mount angle is proper, since I can't see the screen on my head
I also have a clamp mount, I could put on my backpack strap as a sorta makeshift shoulder mount, I haven't experimented with that yet
It really sounds to me like the old version is better. I just got one and my is the old version despite the change happening long ago.
Oh i thought im the only one who's experiencing that janky stabilization, hope to have some sort of fix with some sort of firmware update

Hi, I've just bought this in untied kingdom, but mine has green battery indicator (old version according to you) but AX in the software (new version)... So what sensor is this then? Sony or the new one? Any info will be great, thank you

@@Gersty thank you for replying. Unfortunately I sent the camera back the quality was sub standard for my liking and the audio (without mic) was awful too..
These are great budget action cameras but for about $400 a DJI Action 4 with Mic 2 is a really good combination.
I've just bought this from CEX should come tomorrow I hope it's usable 😔
V50X is ok i would say the best buget action camras are the original osmo action cam and the brave 6 plus are much better than the V50X i will say the imgae is was better befor they did the software update the original software gave much better image quality and stability thank you for this review

Id definitely get the older version cause quality is better, the eis and chipset is better in the old one.
That's a shame, looking for a cheapish action camera for recording cycling & mountain biking footage. The performance in a shaded area really rules this one out. Any suggestions of cameras to check out would be greatly appreciated, really hoping not to spend GoPro prices!
@@jamesrussell8761 how much you looking to spend? Lot of these low budget cams dont do great in low light areas sadly.
My only major complaint with this camera is that all of the videos I take with it when transferred to my MacBook have no audio during playback. If I transfer the same files to a PC I have audio.
That's not a camera problem, is a rotten apple problem.
Do you recommend the stabilizer ON or OFF for taking screenshots from indoor videos? I am a home inspector and often take screenshots from my body-worn camera.
I'd normally say having it ON will help with it being less shaky so that the screenshot would probly turn out better looking but sometimes having it ON can look worse in low light situations. Would definitely suggest using it with a light maybe to help improve it indoors. I know it would be hard to see in an attic for sure. Hope that somewhat answers your question.
having had the older model i had to replace it ended up with this pile of crap my new one does not have EIS on slow motion video and does not have 4k only 720p and 1080p, im now trying to send it back to amazon for refund as it was listed as 4k, sadly i wont buy Akaso again

I'm looking for an affordable camera to film my band's shows. Would this do well with loud metal shows?
If it was on stage I dont think it would do well but maybe if at a distance it would be ok. Also the video quality wouldnt look good if the show was indoors or in a low light environment.
@@Gersty it would mostly be indoors. I'm looking for something I can set up on a tripod at the sound booth so I figured something like a gopro would be good for that.
@@timsguitarmods yeah most action cameras dont perform well indoors with low lighting, specially the cheaper ones. Action cams perform best outdoors on sunny days, but If i had to use one indoors though id probly go with the dji action 4 since it has a better image sensor or maybe a gopro.

Hello, well said for the camera! I have mounted the akaso v50x 2023 on my helmet but I cannot seem to get a decent video.. the camera only records motorcycle's dials and not the road.. do you know how and if I can widen its POV? Is getting GoPro going to solve this?
I think there is an angle setting unless that was only the older version. Check your settings to see if it has it set to the widest angle. Getting a gopro will give you a wider angle view for sure. I recommend the gopo hero 8, as it is only $179 at the moment.

Same problem bro. I already ordered it before knowing that V50x does have 2 versions. I bought it because i saw a lot of positive reviews but from the looks of it, those reviews are for the old version. Lol
Hii... I'm using akaso V50x old version.. when at night in the video there are white spots on the screen.
maybe something got on the inner lens? Ive had that happen with one of mine before. Only at night?

The Sjcam Sj8 pro I think is a much better option than this Akaso camera. It shoots in much better quality, has a better eis, and chipset. Its currently on sale for $102 on Amazon if use their discounts. If looking for something cheaper though let me know. Hope that helps

No not really, the elite is way over priced and video quality is about the same. Plus the non removable battery and memory is a negative in my opinion.

I bought mine ~2years ago and I would not call it GoPro alternative. Video quality is not comparable. Akaso V50X is only a medium video quality camera in my opinion and not even touches the GoPro.
is the campark v30 also effected by this if so what do you think is currently the best for sub 100$
if this one have icatch chipset i think the campark v40 is better for almost same price i want v30 for the hi35 chipset i know its good from ip camera
Yeah, the v30 was also changed. Its even worse than the v50x now. Yeah V40 would be better, that or the sjcam sj8 pro which is currently on sale on Amazon. Has a much better chipset. Currently $102.
@@Gersty yeah the sj8 pro with discount seems great for the hardware im getting but im a bit worried abt the sjcam quality control as allot of people had issue with it and as someone who already have a sj5000x the sjcam battery life is really bad lets be honest but since there is not much good action camera out there recently i think its the only option

@@lifeai1889 i purchased my 2nd one a few months ago and they seem to have fixed some of the bugs but the screen is a tad over sensitive at times but for the most part mine had been working fine.
@@lifeai1889 the sj11 has a cheaper chipset in it, the old Novatek chipset which i believe isnt a true 4k unless theyve updated it.

Then I found the v50x 😂,I see it has same specs, resolution wise, but I found that visually it is better, however watching your video, I don't know, if this new version is worth it against the normal brave 4, it would be brave 4 (68usd) vs v50x (80 usd) with coupons.
There is also the brave 4 Pro for (90 usd) with coupon. And I also saw the v50pro for (95 usd) with coupons, this one I liked the videos I've seen, but I would already be starting to spend a lot 😅, is it worth the difference?. I mean, start by looking at a 38 usd camera, the sj4000 dual screen. I'm going for the Akaso v50 Pro 🤣

The new version has been updated by the company/factory. No updates i know of are available for customers to download.

Haha, yeah no longer worth it in my opinion. I think the older sjcam sj8 pro does a way better job than this. I think its currently $109.
There's no option to update firmware at all
Yeah, Akaso doesnt give any type of firmware updates available for download. Most smaller brands dont. You’d have to buy a new one to get it with different firmware if you have an older version.
@@Gersty well Il have to keep it now would have been brilliant if it was old version but Il take it to holiday the 2.7k/60fps option is best. Ps I bought generic external mic with micro usb adapter cable it doesn't work. Do you need official mic for it to work
Apparently there might be a possible firmware update if you check their akaso go app.
@@Gersty last time I checked there's zero option to check for firmware updates it just has 3 different settings inc camera version.
The pictures on their website shows option for check for firmware updates but that was on brave model and others. I'm certain the lower models won't get it il check when I get home and get back to you
Contacted Akaso they sent me a new firmware il test it out tomorrow the camera number has changed. Do you want it?

Honestly I have given up on Akaso recently because the factory that makes them changed most of the chipsets to a cheaper chipset, making the quality not as good as it once was. I've been recommending the Sjcam sj8 pro since it has a good chipset and can shoot a native 4k60fps. Sometimes it goes on sell for around $90 on Amazon, which is a great deal considering how much clearer the quality is. Hope that helps.
@@Gersty For $90 it doesn't sound bad at all, I appreciate it! By the way I don't know if you know them, right now I was thinking about the wolfang 420, native 4K and also goes up to 60 fps this one at 80 usd, you know the brand maybe? I see opinions as in sjcam, varied, but generally good 😅.
