I beg to differ that this is a good action camera. I had this setup on my motorcycle and the video was terrible. I traded up to a GoPro Hero8 black. I would not recommend this as an action camera when it comes to being mounted on a motorcycle or a fast moving vehicle when using video stabilization. Does not compare to my GoPro Hero7 black. Electronic stabilization is very weak when filming at high speed and degrades video quality to the point you cannot use it.

This one is quite lightweight so the chances of surviving are good. While testing the Campark V30 I crashed it while it was on the 4WD buggy and it survived. I even managed to scratch the lens - which is visible in some parts of the video. Both are very similar in terms of specs and build quality - so that one should be good.
Thanks man! This video really helped me choose wether or not I should get it, especially since it was 40% off when I bought it. I saw that the new version was a bit worse in quality but some aspects were improved like the audio. I also watched many of your videos about Redmi products and loved them too! :)

The documentation is lacking, so I'm struggling with how to use the accessories, what to use to mount to what, and the app is meh. But the camera itself seems pretty good and this review assures me that it was in fact a sound purchase.
The user guide is showcasing most of the accessories. Majority of them use the 1/4-inch mount thread on the camera itself. The rest is down to creativity - but better try the different combinations before going outdoors.
Now! In October 2021, the Akaso V50X comes in a factory batch of 4nd generation versions. The video quality is very different from the first production a lot.

AKASO V50-X Update: After much experimentation, I have found that this Camera performs very well with the latest firmware of Nov 2019 except that when using the APP "ACASO Go" or "RoadCAM," the issue is that the soundtracks with either internal or external mics have Pops and Crack sounds. I have not been able to find a workaround for this issue. If you make movies without using the App(s), no problems using this Camera. In this mode, I would give it a 10 out of 10, including video quality (4k) and sound (internal or external mics.) Let us hope they fix this sound issue with their App in the next update

Hey Rony, thanks for the kind comment! I believe the DJI Osmo Action is a fantastic action camera and well worth the price. After the release of GoPro Hero 9 I saw it discounted at a few places. Its stabilization is pretty much gimbal-like.
I have a question about my akaso v50x. I am trying to take a night time-lapse, but I have a problem. I changed the exposure time to 5 seconds (under the photo settings) so that there would be enough light getting to the sensor in the dark environment. I tried taking a few photos and they turned out really good, but when I tried to take a time-lapse, it just used the auto exposure settings so the entire time-lapse turned out way to dark because the sensor was not getting enough light. I am able to change the settings for photos, but when I take a time-lapse it doesn't use my photo settings. (just to confirm, I am doing the photo time-lapse, not the video time-lapse) and ideas? Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
@@TechMishka ya, its too bad, because the night photos actually turned out not bad. Maybe I'll have to go out one night, and just click the photo button on the controller every 30 seconds lol

Hello and thanks for all the info in your videos. We are looking for a low-cost action cam, realizing they are not apples to apples with higher end GoPro and DJI. We're looking for something primarily to use underwater but would like to use it sometimes while hiking and exploring as a backup to our phone cameras when we vlog. Now that a couple years have passed since you did this video, is there a different budget action camera you'd recommend? All the choices are a little overwhelming and we think we have narrowed our choice down to AKASO V50X, Wolfang GA 300, 400, or 420, or the Dragon Touch Vision 3 PRO (at a much lower price point). Any thoughts or recommendations from your tests and experience? Thanks so much!
M, thank you, another excellent review. It helped me make an informed decision; pertinent & insightful information with examples and a valid opinion...additionally, everything is presented in an enjoyable & professional manner.

@@TechMishka Cheers for info sir, keep up the good work
Nice review with section wise like software ,hardware and etc
Glad you liked it
Thank you Michael. Great review. Does it come with the stand or holder for taking selfie ?
It comes with a basic tripod.
So if to compare with pro Se and elite what would you recommend for a camera mainly to be used to film the kids in activity as phones are distracting them.
Thank you for all the good reviews btw
Hi Tom! I would still prefer the V50X :D
But from what you say - will definitely use the Pro SE.
Thanks for all this info. Nice video hope I can be half as good with my new V50 Pro
I hope you will like it. The Pro is great, especially if you shoot mostly in 30FPS.
I always get great advices from you! My old old SJCam M20 is getting older and I am in the market for a replacement. Should I go for the Akaso V50X, or save for the DJI Osmo Action or perhaps the Xiaomi Fimi Palm? Which one will you take? Thanks!
Hey Rony, thanks for the kind comment!
I believe the DJI Osmo Action is a fantastic action camera and well worth the price. After the release of GoPro Hero 9 I saw it discounted at a few places. Its stabilization is pretty much gimbal-like.
@@TechMishka Thanks buddy, just my thought)
Thanks
Same here... Looks like what you are trying to get is not supported by the firmware.
@@TechMishka ya, its too bad, because the night photos actually turned out not bad. Maybe I'll have to go out one night, and just click the photo button on the controller every 30 seconds lol
This is excellent for it's price. Have you experienced audio sync issue? I've seen a lot of that even in latest firmware.
It might happen after a few minutes of recording.
Really excellent review. Well shot, great wipes, good script, presentation...quite professional. And I love your accent. Subscribed.
I think I got the first one in Australia, from AliExpress... wife's birthday. Yes, she did want one :D
Looking forward to the mic. Post a follow up please.
I will post one, of course! Thing is that deliveries to my place usually take a bit longer time 🙃
@@TechMishka I feel your pain...
Thank you for the Video !
My pleasure!
Hi what do you think about niceboy Vega X Pro
Haven't tried it myself. Looks cute 😃
@@TechMishka i hope one day maybe you I can get one
Hi, I just got an Akaso V50 X, and I am learning how to operate it. Thank you Michael for your review and sorry your son fell so bad from the ramp.
He is totally fine. He watches the video now and recalls the accident. And we laugh together 😊😊😊
Have you compared the wide angle of the Akaso vs the Hero 7? Greater wide angle is most important to me.
Thanks
If you switch off the stabilization on both, you will get the widest possible angles.
@@TechMishka yeah but I need stabilization and as wide as possible with the least crop. I do fast action Arial RC tricks for RUclips
I was considering getting the v50 pro after watching countless comparison videos, it seemed to have the best clarity and internal mic. Can you tell me why you prefer the V50X over the V50 Pro any opinions you could share would be greatly appreciated and will hopefully help me make a more informed purchase thank you
Generally I am not a fan of the iCatch V50 chipset used in the Pro, but it is a great camera overall. From both options I've always preferred the V50X.
@@TechMishka great thanks so much! great videos some of the best i have seen
I'd suggest getting a second hand Hero 6 or 7, or DJI Osmo Action 1.
@@TechMishka Thanks for the reply!
Nice review,thank you 👍
Most welcome, Mohamed
M, thank you, another excellent review. It helped me make an informed decision; pertinent & insightful information with examples and a valid opinion...additionally, everything is presented in an enjoyable & professional manner.
That's really great to hear and I am glad that these efforts pay off.
Hello there, is this gadget can plug in external mic?
Nope. Akaso say there will be a way.
Hi, did you tried the external mic?
Yeah, it is fine. But now the camera has different revisions with poor hardware...
What do you recommend now instead of this camera for the same price or just a bit higher, i want to ride with the bicycle in the forest so i need to understand something from that video but i do not want to spend money on goPro. I am looking for something similar with imx458 sensor but it is pretty hard to find them... Searching and ty for answer
Hello, which one do you think? Akaso V50x or Apeman Trawo? Or is there a better one in this price range?
Both are quite similar, with the TRAWO having a little better sensor.
Thank you for this review
My pleasure!
What external microphone would you use with this camera?
PressedOn right now that's not possible but the v50 pro can have external mic
Amazon sells a external mic for this now $10
Good review
Thank you!
