it's using a Hisilicon chipset and Sony IMX sensor - but Akaso refused to tell me which models for either

These chips are only capable of 1080/30
So I'd stay clear of it until somebody confirms exactly what's in the cam
@@mijiasample6334 hmm. I wonder if the aliexpress listing has correct info. The sensor is 12mp, not 16 like it says on the aliexpress listing.
I bought the camera last week and it definitely shoots 1080p at more than 30fps. The 4k in bright environments is actually pretty good as well, but it goes to shit as soon as it gets dark which is fine for my use.
Average user here,wont ever do post work. Get this or pay 4x more for new Gopro Black 8 in a few weeks?
This is the best deal for the price, EIS is unbelievably smooth! The EIS on and off video quality is vastly different.
But when EIS is ON, what is the Viewing Angle?

You do the best reviews. Your side-by-side footage is actually helpful. You help me decide to buy the camera. I’m happy I did it’s a well-made camera with excellent features and easy to use. The touchscreen is a blessing. But one problem people should know is that the video files produced by the camera are not compatible with Mac computers. Akaso Cheaped out and used an audio codec which is not compatible with Max. If you transfer your files via SD card to your Mac you will have no sound on your videos. I couldn’t figure it out but after an entire day of searching found a small comment about the situation in Amazon reviews. You would think given the hundreds of people complaining the camera itself sucks because there’s no audio that Ocaso might consider employing a real audio codec. Or they should stayed up front the camera is not Mac compatible. There are two fixes. But he needs an extra step? The first one is supplied by Akaso. You open their application on your phone go into your video files and select the video you want. Then select save to your iPhone. During this process it converts the audio. Then you need to email or airdrop your file to your Macintosh computer. This however is time consuming. The other option is transfer your files using the SD card and then you have to use the compromise of a third-party app to convert your video. Luckily the free video player VLC will do it quickly. You just have to use the convert/stream option and select for your audio another mpeg encoding Codec. Luckily you don’t have to re-incode the video just the audio so it’s a fast process. But I really think the company should state in their literature the files produced by this camera are not Mac compatible as far as audio.

For those who recently acquired the V50x,there are three menu modes, Video, photo and system. The video mode is easy , just tap the function icon (gear shape) in the lower right area of the viewing screen. To get to the photo menu press the mode button in the front of the camera once your in the video menu. To get to the system menu press the menu button a second time. This is not well explained in the manual.

I just got this camera too. I can’t figure out how to take pictures while on record mode. It that possible?
I strongly recommend that you TEST the AKASO case empty in the sink / BEFORE you find a leak and ruin the camera :) I have seen many comments about that issue and IT wasn't tested beforehand :) KEEP up the great job with reviews on AKASO , I am a proud owner ( 2 ) of this Camera :) :)
Great info Alex! The nic is a bit muffled but I imagine that cab easily be cured by the external mic you mention.

After seeing all of those seven version videos I decided to stay away from Akaso, turns out the early versions are about like a new version car you want to wait until they get the bugs worked out, but after watching this one it completely changed my mind and I just ordered one from that link you posted so thanks a bunch - that's a really good review.

Just ordered one because of your awesome and super complete and smart review. I know, after 3 years there are many other options (and cheaper ones), but it still fits my wallet and I don´t need a pro action cam, just for some amateur motorbike vlogging. Well I have the v50pro and tested the waterproof, it was working only until 16 meters, after that the case fails, they very kindly have another one because of the warranty but I don't want to test it again at that deep lol

Have you tested the 2023 version? It seems they downgraded the camera specs. I filmed a video with the eis on and it looked like the one on the right. I saw it on yt after I ordered and it was too late to cancel the order. The Gyro is gone time lapse and fast motion are greyed out it's become a complete ripoff.

5:03 1) Why cameras do blur the grass? Is there action cameras that do not blur the grass and have crisp recording at 1080p?
2) Which sensor/processor should camera have to do crisp recordings?

Hi, I've been trying to find a good first action cam, and I feel like I got close with this, the biggest downside being the microphone. Have you maybe found in the meantime an alternative that doesnt involve external mics at around the same budget? I sadly dont have too many options like yi 4k+ because of european amazon
No solution aside from an external microscope… you can always record sound afterwards and edit it in… but that adds a new level of complexity

I want to record some videos on my ATV so stabilization is most important. Probably getting this. Can't for the next month since I lost 2 weeks of work to the plague, but I should be fine next month. Just in time for ATV season.

why my akaso v50x gets the video recording freeze after 3.25 minutes but keeps recording the audio ?? :(
I would look into a different sd card. You may need a faster one

You shouldn't charge batteries that have a third pin (T) with no-name chargers that only have 2 pins (+ -). The third pin is used to monitor battery temperature and adjust the amperage accordingly so that the battery doesn't overheat. Without it, the charger doesn't know if the battery gets too hot and that's how batteries catch fire when charging.

Hi, I have a question. When I take a video but it doesn’t record sounds.. do you know what happens on this action cam.😢
I have a question about my akaso v50x. I am trying to take a night time-lapse, but I have a problem. I changed the exposure time to 5 seconds (under the photo settings) so that there would be enough light getting to the sensor in the dark environment. I tried taking a few photos and they turned out really good, but when I tried to take a time-lapse, it just used the auto exposure settings so the entire time-lapse turned out way to dark because the sensor was not getting enough light. I am able to change the settings for photos, but when I take a time-lapse it doesn't use my photo settings. (just to confirm, I am doing the photo time-lapse, not the video time-lapse) and ideas? Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
A thing that most reviewers miss out on is knowledge about optics. The cheap optics used often produce alot of purple fringing and chromatic aberrations. It can turn trees almost purple. Very good review otherwise :)

Unfortunately on the official product page it's been said it doesn't support external microphone. Here's the V50X FAQ:
Q: Can this camera take an external microphone?
A: No, this action camera can't take an external microphone.
I've crossed my fingers hoping it was true when you said it should support it.
After the last update the V50X can take an external microphone; I was told this by Akaso. Supposedly a microphone will be available for sale in a couple of weeks

I never got to try the yi 4k, just the yi 4k+...but the yi 4k doesn't have eis for 4k videos so I wouldn't want that one
awesome review (Would you ever consider adding more to the reviews i.e: Use on Bicycles? -mount on the bar and see how it deals with popholes or everyday rides? - just a cyclist looking for a cheap option or also camera footage of diving into a pool or water? ) - along with when doing the slow motion can we have original speed as comparisson?

you can download the videos thorough the app, however it is super time consuming.,.. you are probably better off to do wit throught the computer

Hi! it has an English menu because the new 2023 model supposedly doesn't have it.
Doesn’t have a english menu?! If it’s sold on Amazon US, it will be in English 100%
For what it is worth. I tried a 128 GB card in my V50 Pro and the camera recognized it. It shows twice the capacity as it does with the 64 GB cards. It records to it, plays back and the videos/images are uploadable from that card. I will try a 128 GB card with my V50X when it arrives tomorrow.
Someone was saying that they sent and email to Akaso customer service and supposedly it can take sad cards up to 256gb... haven’t tried but very possible

The GoPro is better for sure... but it’s also almost 4 times more expensive

Great review! I have this camera, and asking Akaso, their oficial reply was that V50X does not support external microphone.
Hi, when I contacted them and I requested a review unit they said that they will send a camera and their external microphone to try it out. The external microphone didn’t show up.
I will contact them again and ask about this external microphone

For the life of my - I don't understand why the don't just use mini USB - so we have ext. audio ... Nobody cares its the older format port. (All cam manufacturers)
New firmware now has external mic option
as 4k eis improves on budget cameras maybe you can consider running test

Hi, I notice the min. time interval for photo time lapse is 3 seconds. I usually do a lot of time lapse's at 1 sec or 2 sec. Am I missing a setting or is there any work around to modify this? - thx
no way to change it unfortunately. I prefer 2 seconds as well
