Chase Langford has invented a distinctive visual language that is grounded in the natural and built environment while embarking into uncharted territory. His impactful depictions recall maps and aerial photography of sea coasts, mountains, farmland and cities through a calculated execution and highly refined draftsmanship.
Just as the West Coast Abstract Expressionists (1940 to 1970) found California’s striking landscape fertile ground, so does Langford as he draws upon his geographic environs both near and far.
Through his cartographic mastery, Langford contorts and synthesizes geographic elements, bringing forth paintings that are mysteriously familiar yet surprisingly unconventional. They challenge conventions of geography and landscapes, offering invigorating visions of space and place that transcend any specific locale, leading us to an exhilarating emotional experience.
Chase Langford is represented by galleries in: Seattle, Napa Valley, Healdsburg, Dallas, Maui, and Martha's Vineyard. His studio is in Cathedral City, CA near Palm Springs. (Los Angeles studio shown in this video)
Big thanks to Walter Pawluk Productions for filming, editing and co-directing.
Chase Langford's paintings have been widely shown at one-person and group exhibitions in Los Angeles, New York City, Washington DC, Montreal, Palo Alto, Las Vegas, Long Beach, Napa Valley, Seattle, Dallas, Toronto and Palm Springs and included many corporate/public collections (often site specific commissions) such as Long Beach Musuem of Art, Keck School of Medicine at USC, Michael & Susan Dell Foundation, Star City in Sydney, Australia, Royal Caribbean Cruises, Monique Lhuillier, Inc., Caesar’s Palace, Dykema Grossett LLP, Sidley Austin LLP, Cohen & Lord, Meacham Oppenheimer, Inc., UBS, Nordstrom and Park Hyatt Aviara. He is in private collections in North America, Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, and Australia. Also in the private collections of Magic Johnson and the Saudi Royal Family.

THE MOST INFORMATIONAL ART ROOM TIPS ON THE INTERNET! YOU ROCK CHASE!
I really enjoyed watching, you created a video that manages to be both conversational and yet goes straight to the point(s), thank you!
A very organised artists are a rare breed.
Chase, this is so helpful to find. Really appreciate the level of details in your offering here. Incredibly generous to share your time for those of us beginning.
My pleasure!
Thank you for the great tips. I especially appreciated your idea of putting a thumbprint on the back of your work. Years ago one of my former professors, Karl Kasten, had been asked by one of his collectors to help authenticate some Jackson Pollock paintings on chipboard that he had been offered at a good price. I begged Karl to avoid the task as Pollock is possibly the most counterfeited artist of all time, and instead I was dragged in to assist. We were able to verify two out of the several paintings in the group partly by stray fingerprints that matched those found in Pollock's studio, but it seemed the seller had gotten greedy and added several fakes to his offering - The chipboard used was not available during Pollocks lifetime. I had returned to Los Angeles when the drama in the Bay Area played out, but in the end Prof. Kasten retained his good reputation. For me it was a frightening situation but even at 91 years of age Karl was sharp and fearless.
Thanks for sharing. I feel adding the stamp and fingerprint helps authentication in the future. Have you seen the British show "Fake or Fortune"? Check it out.
Haven’t heard of it and will check it out. Are you familiar with Han van Meegeren? He painted excellent forgeries and had to create one during his trial for being a Nazi collaborator to prove the Vermeer he’d traded to Herman Göring was actually one of his fakes.
This is a great story!
The thumbprint is brilliant and I’m stealing it. I work on paper right now, though I will paint on canvas if I can buy them on sale, but still developing my style. And yes, I get paint everywhere, so I need a space in which a mess is acceptable. You have an efficient system and organized studio. Thank you for sharing.
Chris -- I got the thumbprint idea from the BBC tv show "Fake or Fortune".
Thank you for taking the time to make these super informative videos! I love that you re-purpose and re-use items - like your brush holder. Very, very creative! Your friendly authenticity is very motivating and uplifting :)

You are so welcome!
Really appreciate this peek into your studio! Very inspiring!
Great advice! Thank you for this
Thanks! Keep the informative videos coming! :) Especially liked the tips around making photographs in multiple angles and also a short video.
Would like to see more information on the behind the scenes stuff, like finances / keeping your administration in order / what to document, etc.
Galleries and collectors appreciate lots of images that help them get a better look at a painting that isn't available for them to see locally. My galleries will pass on these images to clients to help them decide if they want to acquire the work. Doing a short video is also super helpful. Be super attentive to all details of a sale: pricing, shipping, all details about the art, the gallery and collector info.
I live in a tiny one bedroom unit in Tassie and I have a corner measuring 1800 x 1200, for my desk, and an easel. That’s all my work area. Some space in the lounge which is the same room for a bookshelf. It’s been super frustrating but I’ve carefully selected furniture that is practical and fits. Took a while. My wardrobe houses some art material and the paintings, folders etc are behind the curtain in lounge. Going to buy some drawers for drawings (need to find space) and that’s all I’ll be able to house. Thank you for this video, seeing how other artists set up helps me and appreciate you making this video. G’day from Australia! 😀🖼🎨
