    I must agree with you Graham, the last time that filter seen the light of day, was in a Japanese factory!! As some of the other comments say, doing your own servicing is the only way to go. Like you, I've carried out my own....the only uncertainty, is whether or not the valve clearances were checked at 16k miles (it has 24k now). I have a service invoice from the previous owner stating it was done, but like your filter, the work may never have been carried out due to the amount of stripping work required to get access to the cylinder heads. I may have to swallow hard and attempt to do this work this winter!

    • @Grahamvfr
      @Grahamvfr  2 года назад

      Yes I'm turning a blind eye to whether mine were done, and decide like you this winter by which time my bike may have about 30,000, I'll do plugs also... I think haha.
      Spoke to lots of very high mileage owners who've missed a few valve checks, without issue, but don't take my attitude as being the way to go haha

      @@Grahamvfr I've just bought one. Unless I hear noises coming from the top end, I am not touching the valves. There's a vid of someone with >100K Km with untouched valves.

    Some mothers do have them lol, not believing that for a minute, hey I would never attempted taking the fairing off, if I hadn’t seen your video and comments, had the fairing off today again, as I got an unproggramed spare key, and managed to program without any issues. RUclips is a great thing as it showed me how to make up the cable for the job, again the fairing went on easy by concentrating on lining up and sliding onto the horizontal fastener first, it’s one of those jobs once you have done it, it gets easier. Keep up the great work, I always look forward to seeing your videos.

    Well got my air filter out just waiting for the new one to arrive, have to say like yours my filter was a disgrace, it was really filthy, but comparing it to yours i have to say yours has to take 1st prize for dirtiest air filter, thanks again your video was a big help to me, on removing the filter, keep up the good work

    Hiya Graham
    I followed your video on the removal of the side fairing which helped me a lot thanks for that, how ever when reinstalling the panel I focused on sliding on the fairing onto the horizontal fastener first, then lining up to the other fasteners, maybe I just got lucky but this time it was fairly easy. Thanks again
    Keep up the great videos👍🏻

    Vfr800 5th gen, seat off, 2 bolts at the front of the tank, prop the tank up and there is your air filter box, those were bikes designed and built to last, so easy to service, well basic stuff anyway, oil and filter, air filter, plugs, coolant change, brake pads etc. I manage to do all this now myself and I know it's done, plus you only have to buy the parts.
    Bikes like this with the air filter so hard to access are rarely changed regularly unless you buy the bike form a diligent owner like yourself.

    • @Grahamvfr
      @Grahamvfr  2 года назад +1

      A yellow 5th generation would be on my dream garage list.
      Never worked on one, but you're right, if bikes aren't accessible to maintain they get neglected.

    That is the dirtiest air filter I have ever seen it has to be the original. As someone already posted the filter doesn't get changed because the fairings terrifie people.

    • @Grahamvfr
      @Grahamvfr  2 года назад +2

      Undoubtedly, but comes to something when it terryfies the dealers. Worst one I've seen also. Even more dissapointed, that a mechanic fitted a power commander without checking the air filter.

    that is one mucky air filter Graham, ive got a wee question to ask you since you have your tank up, i have heated grips on my bike but are not factory, but hoping to exchange to factory grips, can you trace back the cables from the factory heated grips and tell me if it is a hard job to do or does it look easy enough, as always your help is appreciated

    • @Grahamvfr
      @Grahamvfr  2 года назад +1

      The factory grips were retro fitted when previous owner bought the bike in 2014 (£350 +😳). Difficult to see the run, they seem to go to ignition barrel, certainly not to battery. So me being a very amateur DIY type hmmm I don't know if it's a bit tricky.

      I also put a chunkier bit, across the frame under the tank nr the hinge, just in case the wood slipped.

    Hiya Graham
    looking to change my air filter, but when searching all i can find are performance air filters, i want to stay with genuine parts, do you by any chance know the part number for the filter, and can you point me in the right direction as where i can purchase one.
    regards John

      @Grahamvfr  2 года назад

      Hi John, I got lucky, when flicking through ebay, I came across it from a guy having a clear out. I've tried to click on purchases to see if it had part number but its gone from my list. I still have old filter which my have number on, but I'm in dordogne at moment on family hol, so cwill check when I get home end June, if your not sorted.
      I'm afraid it might be a scour the Internet job, unless you get lucky with local dealer.

    Just changed mine, probably also original, but only 13k km, so nowhere near as dirty as yours :)
    Also managed to do it wihout removing any fairings completely, like this: imgur.com/a/MgvODLa
    A couple clips were missing/broken so for now I've used some zip ties until I find the correct parts.
    Removed the intake resonator bottles as well, but can't really hear a difference.
