Been a passionate bike fan since I was very young, starting on the road in 1973 with a Yamaha fizzy.
Thought I would try to put a bit back to RUclips, having gained lots of help from it over the years. My aim is for the channel to be just
like a bike chat between enthusiasts, at bike meets etc.

Itll be a typical Honda. Itll do everything superbly but it will be void of character and soul and by God its an ugly bike...
Well you don't buy a Vfr for soul and character I've got lots of opportunities for that. You buy it for power efficiency and effectiveness. Looks are devisive but hey ho! 😊
As many other comments on this video, I can't understand why italians are selling tons of euro V cool, poweful, fast (and pricey) sport bikes whilst Honda who produced v4 engines for decades seems to be interested on cheap inline 2 bikes. I still hope in a Japan quality and reliability new Honda V4.
Oh , Eck interesting but sad story I suppose. Well at least you have the memories, that 5 valve engine was a peach. Triumph 765 not too shabby though 👍👍, Thanks for input 😊
We are living in the cost cutting era. The VFR1200F clearly is not part of this era. 10/10 for the looks.
@@dorstefan Sadly yes, and of course the consumers desire for style (fripperies) over substance 😏

Graham I'm curious, saw in one of your other vids you mentioned the tank on the 2012+ isn't actually bigger it's just the pump takes less space in the tank. Where did you get this info from? Also do you know what the difference is supposed to be in the fueling system to improve economy, is it supposed to be physical parts or just mapping?
@@REDGRIFFIN100 Hi yes I'd heard anecdotaly about it, then saw in an old mag Ride October 2012. look at 58 secs on linked video. This is backed up by a supposed insignificant increase ( half a litre) which would hardly warrant a re design. I believe the improvement was purely mapping, as the physical systems appear the same. ECU is different. ruclips.net/video/CaNk7nr6U2M/видео.htmlsi=JVWfE5eSX69MvAeO Hope that helps
@@Grahamvfr thanks that does help
Those FZ 750s were pretty actually. Comfortable and fast. My first bike was an full fairing FZ750, loved it but had an accident with it and damaged it the sold it.
Brilliant bikes, they used to mention a hard seat, but I found it ok. See my old vhs video of it, if you haven't already.ruclips.net/video/IY0vAu_6G20/видео.htmlsi=WpA4htEXWXyO2sAC
Its front end feel i miss with upright adventure bikes
@@toma9246 I was talking to a lad at squires last week who'd part exed his vfr 800 for the Suzuki gsxs1000gt. Said he'd tried the gx Suzuki but found the feel from the front a touch remote compared to GT. It's a great point 👍
Remember having a fj1200 and a Kawasaki 1000 gtr, and now my 2010 vfr1200f can't beat it.
@@tangm6833 Great to hear, fjrs are great bikes, never ridden the gtr 1000, but had a brief pillion ride on a gtr 1400, very nice .
Sport tourers are coming back. (Eg Suzuki gsxs1000gt and Guzzi Mandello). The difference is this: Manufacturers will NOT invest in single use engines that require a lot of R&D. They are building one engine and frame that can be dispensed in multiple platforms. R&D is getting more expensive and motorcycling can not support a diverse range of power plants. Honda has chosen to go with the 1100 parallel twin.
@@luko560 They are supposed to be bringing out a 4 cylinder CB1000 Hornet. If we are lucky we might see a faired sport touring version. Give me an IL4 over a parallel twin every time.
@@jeremyr62 That would be great if it happens.
@@luko560 Yes I think the single use platform issue is a valid point. Unusual that Honda developed the crosstourer and cross runner from sports touring models, yet with the nt it's the other way round. Love the mandello 👍
I think Gary as you quite rightly pointed out, the mystery (to us maybe not Honda) is how the Italian manufacturers can churn out big v4s ,although obviously Ducati are predominantly a racing based organisation (perhaps thats not the most accurate term) and may find having a V4 road bike is more important to them.🤔. Either way i guess tine will tell, but I'll think wishfully in meantime.. Cheers 👍
Before I got my VFR I had FJRs. A lot of the riders of those seem to have migrated onto bikes like the Tracer 9. I too much prefer old school bikes like VFR/FJR/ST types but I fear their day is done. Just glad I lived through that era.
@@jeremyr62 Yea you maybe right Jeremy, fjrs also my type of bike, I have to admit Riding my mates tracer 9 is fun, but getting back on Vfr, is always "ah that's more like it" . Thanks again 👍
I love the torque and the pulling power of the VFR, two up, fully loaded will out drag 90% of the rest. Love that you can have fun on the twisties and sit on it for hours munching motorway miles. Love the style and love the V4. But best of all is DCT.
I must agree with everything you've said there... with the added interest of dct 👍.
@@TheSudsy Agree with all except comfort. My bum gets really sore after about 2 hours in the saddle 😂
@@garyt.8745 I bought cycling shorts thyat were padded that had gel inerts from Aldi (£5 ) i think in prep for long journeys. But I have over 50,000 miles now and minimum 60 miles per day, maximum 3 hours trips to Lincolnshire. didnt need them after all but handy if you can pick some up. I also am looking at a custom seat.
Unfortunately Graham and as much as I would like Honda to make another VFR, I don't think they will. Too expensive to develop a V4 engine. In the meantime I will just enjoy my VFR750!
Yes you're probably right, but hey ho!, keep enjoying your 750 😊😊
Interesting subject. I don't know enough on the technicalities to give any sort of objective opinion. I understand that Honda stopped production of their V4, citing emmisions as being the decisive factor (I presume 2016 Euro IV or maybe the, then upcoming, 2020 Euro V). Its weird how Italian manufacturers _can_ produce liquid cooled, V4, large bore, high power Euro V compliant powerplants, yet Honda seem incapable 🤷. The Panigale V4, for example, is crazy powerful and Euro V/V+ compliant. I don't imagine Honda can't do the same/similar, but more that they don't want to right now. Must be a strategic, or commercial, move, but only they know. I remember when Triumph phased out the Daytona 955i, never producing a 1050 version, or later 1200 version, although maintaining the Speed Triple with those engines. Low sales, one assumes, due to (and I launch into pure speculation) high insurance costs(?), or lack of interest in the sports segment, or rider demographics. Again, no idea.
@@garyt.8745 Don't know why my reply to you went on as a comment not direct reply 🤔, Hope you picked it up.
Great video Graham, I always at least put the wheel under the car when it's jacked up, maybe you have an axle stand under there? never rely only on a hydraulic jack. Never thought that this could be causing the noise, happens my Mrs's car sometimes. have to check it out, thanks.
@@roadwarrior8560 Thanks,Well I hope it is the same issue and easily solved. You are quite right to point out the belt and braces approach, foolishly I was distracted by filming and forgot my chocks at that point 👍👍.
@@Grahamvfr I have axle stands now but before I'd have used a block of wood or just put he removed wheel under the 'chassis' if there is such a thing on modern cars.
@@roadwarrior8560 My axle stands have been seconded to my bike bench hahaha 😊
Aww, thanks for this, brings back memories. I had a 1991 Bike, same colours. I had to sell it when insurance wen mad in the 90s. Ended up getting ripped off and losing the bike through fraud.... All I have now are a few photos and the memories. That engine sound, and the valves, just how I remember it! I did buy another one years later, not sure what happened though, cant remember, other than the last 90s bike I had was a CBR400RR Just recently bought an almost new Triumph Street Triple 765RS
Informative video Graham and not bad mileage out of those discs. Mind you, if you had those fitted to your VFR1200F, you'd have a few sleepless nights! I noted in your video that you referred to 'driving instruction'. Were you an ADI? If so, great to hear, as I was too (for over 16 years). Our defensive driving techniques and love of the open road, have done us well over the years, both on 2 wheels and 4. Take care for now.

Hi Graham. Just overhauled my claipers on my VFR1200, however I have been unable to bleed my brakes. No matter how much i bleed, using the right order, I have no brake pressure at all. Its like the fluid is bypassing the pistons! I get fluid and air the lines, but no pressure at all at the lever. Been at it 4 hours and nothing. Any ideas what I could be doing wrong? Any advice gratefully received 🙈
@@becomingback can I just ask have you overhauled all the calipers or just the front??
@@Grahamvfr Just the front. Pads were dragging.
I feel like the issue might be at the master cylinder end. Gary
@@becomingback So just to confirm there's no air lurking elsewhere in the system, have you pressed the rear brake and felt for pressure on the lever and on the front left upper pad ie is it grabbing tight on left disc. Person needed to hold down rear end , to check this.
@@Grahamvfr When I press the rear pedal I hear a hissing type noise from the front right hand side of the bike. As I am on my own I can't tell if the front pads are engaging. I've used a vacuum tool to bleed. The rear caliper seems ok.
When I test rode the DCT Africa Twin I though something was holding the bike it was so heavy to get off the side stand. The VFR1200 is no problem to get upright even from lying on its side.
@@StayAtHomeBiker That's it Brian, and it's a good 25 kgs lighter than vfr. I watched your weightlifting video... excellent 👍👍, cheers
Important note: I see a few comments that appear to link weight to Top - Heaviness. Top heaviness is high C of G irrespective of how light or how heavy a bike is. The Vfr has a relatively low C if G. 😊
Nothing to do with this topic, but I have seen quite a few reports of 6th gear failing on manuals. Maybe an idea for a video?
@@jeremyr62 Thank you for the idea Jeremy, if any of my subscribers mention that it's happened to them, it would be worth looking at. Presently I only have confidence talking about issues I personally experience. Thanks again though 👍
It's a beautiful bike, one that I would desperately love to own (and that blue has always been one of my most favourite paint jobs on any motorcycle ever! lust lust) but to me, the whole "top heavy" argument isn't about slow speed riding, or lifting it off the sidestand, or wobbling it back and forth a few inches whilst sitting on it. Where the top heavy part rears it's ugly head, is when you put your foot down in an unexpected divot, get off balance, and are at that tipping point of blowing your back out trying desperately to keep the bike from falling onto it's side. It's only *THEN* you discover what top heavy truly means, lol. For example, an NC700/750X is not top heavy. A VFR1200? Erm, ya I think it's pretty top heavy really, based on my subjective measure of what it means.
@@LS-uv9gg Well firstly I really appreciate your kind comments its very encouraging. It beyond my production capability to remove subjectivity from the video (I wish I was Ryan f9 haha ) but your examples merely add value to my video. Id ask you to ride any other motorcycle weighing 267 kgs and stop in a divot or on a camber and you will find a lot more instability than the vfr12 (Which has a low 'actual' C of G not 'subjective' low C if G. The weight of the Vfr is much greater overall than the bike you gave in example and it is the weight you feel not where the weight is distributed. If a bike is difficult to raise off it's side stand (any GS, Kawasaki gtr, BMW k1300, early V2 tounos etc etc) then physics dictate that if you stop on a camber or uneven ground, then the effort to keep bike upright is relevant to pushing it up from leaned over. The added benefit also if the managibilty of the Vfr 12 is also the low seat which allows feet flat down easily. Hope that makes sense 😊
The term "top heavy" is arguably used subjectively within this context. Having ridden a VFR1200F I did not find it "top heavy"....however at 267kg wet it can take some effort during manual handling.
@@AW8UK Well although I wanted to remove subjectivity, I didn't want to get too technical. The thrust of the video was to accept that 267kg is heavy, but the C of G is low. If you man handle an adventure bike ( but not just adventure bikes) of similar weight or even ones with lighter weight, you'll feel the top heaviness, particularly stopping at say junctions with cambers etc . Thanks again for your keen interest 😊
It's a rumour put about by BMW boxer twin owners 😂
@@trevorphillips3055 hahaha yea, you really know you're pushing one of those of the side stand !!!
Greetings from Norway. I have my first VFR ever, the1200F this year. So this is my first summer riding it. What I thought of is that, at first the VFR 1200 felt top heavy compared to my earlier bikes. But that's because they all were R or RR superbikes. 😅 So there you have it. Once I got familiar with the bike, it suddenly werent top heavy at all. It's a fantastic piece of engineering. So this bike will be with me for years to come. 🙂
@@KjetilHaavan Really appreciate your input from Norway 😊, and hope you get as much enjoyment from Vfr as I do 👍👍
Top heavy 🤣, I agree with you Graham, the VFR is not top heavy. Perhaps he did mean that there is quite some weight on the front wheel? The VFR is so stable and balanced…
@@hbor77 yea good point, it's generally a heavy steerer at low speeds....my old Avon storms helped that a little bit, but fronts were finished at 4k .
The VFR is a well balanced bike, however I'm in Italy at the moment, and having temporarily parked on a fairly steep camber, I did have to put a bit of effort in to get it on the level.
