Great to see you've got a replacement oem shock fitted to the bike. Yes, I must agree with you that having the bike stripped apart, just doesn't feel right. I had exactly the same sentiment when I carried out a valve clearance check on my own bike a couple of months back......so many body panels, engine parts, pipes and wiring had to be removed. Call me a sad case, but I never felt happier than when I got the bike put back together again! Roll on Springtime and the brighter evenings.

Well I may have said before, I admire you delving into valve clearances 👍.
I've just put tank panels back on so I feel better at least having a bit colour back on the bike.
Yes roll on spring, feeling the cold more now as age creeps up. 😕

Glad you got it sorted graham do keep on top of greasing those link bearings and the bottom shocker one for the time it takes once the wheel is out saves you money in the long run you will find it a lot better to ride now yes roll on spring another good 8 weeks hopefully . The adjuster pre load knob i give mine a spray off wd40 after every ride out myself i think they sieze up due to the heat from the exhaust around that area it gets very warm .

Yes I'm looking forward to getting panels back on etc.
Has the new shock's adjuster soaking in wd- 40 for a day, but still stiff.
I'll allow the vfr that flaw as I don't really need to adjust preload much. Yes I can imagine there is a lot of heat from the 2 rear headers!!.

Haha.. My old shock had about 3 turns free, but then siezed

I cannot emphasise how much better an aftermarket shock is. Like actually night and day compared to that POS. I'm not a fast rider but good god OEM is APPALLING

Having cut my teeth racing wobbly 70s bikes as a teenager, no modern shock is appalling to me. But I understand, and like I've said many times I'm a restorer not modifier. Thank you for watching. 👍

@Grahamvfr sorry but it really is. There's a good reason why no suspension specialist worth their salt will rebuild the OEM one. Spring is too weak and damping is all over the place. Ditto on the forks. Honda made a brilliant bike with one of the worst shocks on any modern bike

@@kpowers9017 no I understand your sentiment, but I've 200,000 miles at least under my belt, tracks and road on many bikes and I don't have any issue with the standard shock, yes it may not be the best or even quite good, but me personally I be never found it wanting, unless I've gone a bit mad (rare these days) on our really bumpy UK rds.
I'm only 72 kgs mind. I appreciate your input though, and lots agree with you.

amazed you still have a preload adjuster knob, mine went walkies about three days after buying mine. Have to use a socket or t bar on mine.....or just let the missus moan about me breaking her back snigger snigger
