I love it that you made and gave it to yourself for Mother's Day. It has taken me a very long time to learn how to do self care. I find it easy to do things for others, but I think I learned from my mother to always put others first. She had to do it, to raise 5 kids 95% by herself, but I don't need to do that. Now that my children are grown, I'm learning how to do things, like junk journalling, etc for my own enjoyment. Thank you for your time and instruction.
Thank you Marilyn...My son is also grown, but now I give so much to the grand girls! But when I do create projects, I try to keep something for myself so I remember what I can make! Enjoy learning junk journaling...it is fun and so many ideas out there to enjoy creating!
This is absolutely amazing! I am so thankful God gave you the gift of creativity 🌻 My creativity has had a complete block since I lost my fiance and I have tried with no luck even watching other videos looking for inspiration and tonight I came across your video and it lit a spark to some ideas❤️❤️❤️ Again thank you so much for sharing your gift . Merry Christmas 🎄🎄🎄
Love the fold over idea for the clear plastic. I have to say this - and not to slam other designers .... But if you haven’t already, you should look into reproducing your gorgeous florals into sheets to sell or digital images, they’re gorgeous
That's a gorgeous journal, I'm hoping to make a ephemera journal for myself out of a ceral box and what you have done has given me food for thought, thankyou 😊
Your storage book is such a clever idea and I can see why you wished to keep it....as a gift to yourself 🤗 (I actually think it is pretty with the cover left just as it is) Your flower watercolours are beautifully drawn and delicately coloured....just lovely 💐
Good job & the original crafter who came up with this “Ephemera Folio” was Rachel from Roxy Creations, then Gayle Agostinelli made a few for her ephemera, then Martha Manigross started making them & selling them, then someone with 2 names & one of them being Bella started making them & also selling them, but Rachel truly started a lovely trend with the Ephemera Folio for sure...🙂👍🏻! Take care, 🎀 Lily 🎀
YES. I typed "ephemera storage" into youtube to see what other people were doing, and this is perfect. Next time I see those plastic folder sheets on a thrift run I'll try to remember to pick them up for this. :D
Awhhh...sorry it didn't work out the first time for you. Lots of ways to make ephemera books. Pockets sound good, but the clear sewn pages help to see everything better. I just made a smaller book using clear pockets and lace pockets. Might make a video on that some day. Hope my video helped you out.
@@carolkutzdesigns Thank you, Carol, it helped a lot. Your method is working much better than my first attempt. I already had page protectors and file folders on hand and got to sewing. I'm using a three ring binder and filling it up. 🙂
If you don’t want to use washi tape or don’t want to sew, use the same page protector plastic page and use a fusing tool. They are inexpensive and the result would be cleaner you can decide how big the segments are. If you want leave the three holes and use a large binder to insert your project in.
I am happy to find your channel. What a beautiful and cheerful journal. Your drawings and water coloring is great. Wish I had that talent. And how in the world did you fussy cut all those flowers. I would have pulled my hair out. Not a big fan of it. Thanks and look forward to more of your videos.
Wow I just made my first Attempt an album and me it for myself about a month ago. It looks very similar to yours. But I used all vellum pages. I like your what a beautiful job. 😍
You are very talented! Great video and tutorial. I am going to try making two with the sewing. Thanks for sharing. I am going to search your site to see if you've done a tutorial on your specimen cards.
Do you paint as well? Your flowers and plants are beautiful. You are so talented! And your book is gorgeous. What a lovely treat for yourself! Val from Alberta, Canada.
Thank you! Sorry for the long delay reply....have been off for quite awhile. I believe I have 2 different flower doodle steps to draw on my instagram page @carolkutzdesigns You might have to scroll back through to find the How to Draw pics. This might give you a start to draw....must start somewhere and grow from there! Have fun if you do!
Amazing! I was just searching for ephemera storage book and I came across your video! Beautiful drawing. 😍😍😍 when you have time, could you please show your drawing and coloring process/tutorials? I would love to see how you make them.
I use stamps to make flowers and then watercolor them. I haven’t been able to find thinner watercolor paper so they are too thick. Would you mind telling us what kind of paper you used to make the flowers on? Gosh, they are so pretty! Hugs, treen 💕🎀🌸🎀💕🌸🎀💕🌸
Hello Carol... New Subbie! # 65 I found you by searching Ephemera. So glad to have found your channel! Your Water Color Flowers are Amazing!!! And Love the idea of your very clever folder! TFS
Thank you so much Deborah. I really love creating those flowers and find it relaxing to hand cut...Life has been crazy, hubby in the middle of finishing up renovation in my studio and has just been called back to work after 5 months...thank God, but the studio is in shambles for now...I'm having creative withdrawal and trying to create in different areas of the home. Hope to have some new work and videos up in the near future.
What a simple and beautiful idea! I've seen others but they were much too complicated. I love yours. I didn't know at first that you painted your own flowers...they look so professional ( LOL well..of course they actually are!)! How 'bout some painting lessons?
Thank you and sorry for the late reply....have plans in the future to create a video on how I make my cutout flowers! Thanks so much for the interest. I do have I believe 2 pages on my instagram page on how to draw 2 different flowers...you might have scroll through to find them. It can be a good start at what I do! @carolkutzdesigns
@Secrets You can glue it in, OR you could could sew the sheets in with a tapestry needle and embroidery thread. Watch the videos below for how to sew in pages. The LAST video I listed at the bottom of this text, will really teach you a few key mixed media skills, including sewing pages into a spike of a book cover. Plus, you’ll end up with your own mixed media art journal!!! Collage Ephemera Holder by Gail Agostinelli ruclips.net/video/3Z_ROdie_rc/видео.html See @45:20 for how she planned to stitch her folios (a folio is simply folded and nested sheets of paper sewn together in the center, either by themselves, or seen to the spine of a book) Video, “Collaging New Ephemera Folder” by Gail Agostinelli ruclips.net/video/mNZkL95ckew/видео.html @:0:28 she shows that she sewed the folios together into the cover’s spine. DIY Ephemera Storage by Le CafeCraft (Patricia) ruclips.net/video/0SiM6WY55Qg/видео.html This uses no sewing, but is interesting to see another style of Ephemera holder. How to Sew a Folio ruclips.net/video/nhAwIR-n_kg/видео.html ********************************* To see the exact process of making a journal with folio pages, this video, below, will show you exactly what to do, and more. This is an amazing resource. Watch it ASAP, before it gets removed! It’s been up for years, but it’s such an amazing TOTALLY FREE resource, the author might realize it and take it down! It’s called “How to Make An Art Journal for Beginners” ruclips.net/video/2cy-I5rkLpY/видео.html You don’t have to add the little beads at the edges of the pages. Either way, this video teaches some great beginning mixed media skills. The journal uses 140 lb watercolor paper. A good brand of 140 lb watercolor paper is a brand called Canson’s XL. It’s available at Michael’s, ( maybe also at Joanne’s Fabrics), or Amazon online. Your local art supply store will likely have it. As she said, you need to buy the size with 11”x15” sheets. If the Canson brand does not come in that size, Strathmore should have 140 lb watercolor sheets in 11”x15”. Google 11x15 watercolor paper, and see what brands come up in that size. For making this journal, you’ll need: * An empty cereal box;she used a medium size of Cheerios. * Nine (9) 11”x15” sheets of watercolor paper; you may want to buy 10 or 11 sheets, just in case you cut something wrong. * Paper cutter; You can go to Fed Ex Office if you don’t have one, OR use scissors and cut SLOWLY and CAREFULLY in a STRAIGHT line. Since since 140 lb paper is pretty thick, you may want to make your 9 cuts of paper with a paper cutter at Fed Ex. * Bone Folder to crease the paper; I think these are available at Michael’s and Joanne’s, and possible in the craft section if Walmart. You can use the scissor handles if you cannot find a bone folder. * Two sheets of packing paper or two pages from a newspaper; * Lineco Brand Neutral pH Adhesive; May be available at, Dick Blick Art stores, Joanne’s, Michael’s or Amazon. You could probably use another glue, but I think it’s best to use what the tutorial says, because it’s tried and true. * Black craft sponge to apply the glue; I found about four at the thrift store for about 99 cents. * Tissue paper of your choice; * Acrylic paint color of your choice. You’re going to paint over the tissue paper. Golden Brand Acrylic paint is artists grade and won’t fade. Basics Brand acrylic paint is STUDENT grade/student quality. I think it also won’t fade. You can research these brands on RUclips. Artist grade/artist quality paints do NOT fade. If you don’t want the colors of the projects you do to fade, NEVER EVER buy Craft quality paints. Craft Quality paints WILL fade. An artist found this out the hard way after she sold a work with CRAFT QUALITY/GRADE, and the customer let her know that the colors were fading over the years. A hard lesson never forgotten! 😂 * I think Michael’s sells Artist Loft Brand paints, and I think they are CRAFT quality and will FADE. You can research paint quality on RUclips, to be sure. * Paint brush to paint the cover-A 2” to 4” wide brush is good to apply the paint to larger surfaces quickly. Always let EACH layer of any wet medium that you apply, whether glue, or paint, or other, DRY THOROUGHLY BEFORE applying another layer. Otherwise things will bleed and blend and will NOT look the way you want them to. * Heat Gun. If you don’t want to wait for things to dry, you can get a craft heat gun. I don’t know which brand is best. I haven’t gotten to that stage yet. I’m still drawing with pencils! 😂 * Tapestry needle; available at Michael’s, Joanne’s Fabrics, or Walmart. * Embroidery thread; (for stitching the signatures together. Available at Michael’s, Joanne’s Fabrics, or Walmart. You might also find this at a thrift store). A signature is nothing more than a folio- two or more pages folded and nested together to be sewn in the spine of a book. * Scissors to cut the embroidery thread; * Beads of your choice, if you want them; * Two magnets to close your envelopes; These may be available at Michael’s or Joanne’s. You can ask for craft magnets. You can take a screen shot of the video when you see the magnet and show a sales associate the item and they’ll be able to tell if they carry it or not. Or you could get it online. However the shipping might be more expensive than the magnets! 😂 Of courses, if you could order all things via Amazon, and if you have Amazon Prime, the shipping is free if the order is over a certain amount of money. What do you DO with an art journal? An art journal is YOUR special paper playground!!! 😁😆 You can draw, paint, write, and collage it in, using any paints, whether watercolor, acrylic, gouache, or oil, because it’s watercolor paper and won’t wrinkle, even with water colors! You can even use Gesso and other mediums, which are common in collage and mixed media. You can practice collage techniques. Practice using watercolors, acrylic paints, gouache, gel pens, micron pens, etc. You can make color swatches of each type of paint you have. There are videos on this as well. Pen brands: Micrón-.05 is popular for drawing thin lines on top of DRIED paint that you’ve used. Never write on wet paint. It will likely ruin your pens. Sakura Brand gel pens, black, white, and other desired colors Sharpie-WATERBASED medium tip in white. Black is likely available. Uniball , UM 153 Signo Broad Point Gel Pen . I think these are waterproof. Mechanical Pencil, Pentel Twisted Erase 519 mechanical PENCIL. It’s best to look for these pens in art supply stores, or on Amazon. I believe that you can use the same type of brushes for watercolor, gouache, and acrylic paints. Gouache is a more intense, opaque type of watercolor. Good sizes of brushes to have are 6, 8, and 10. There are others, but I haven’t researched enough. There are RUclips videos on mixed media supplies, including brushes to help you decide. I hope this info gets you further down the road of mixed media. I just got started in July, and it’s been quite interesting, but many people don’t give enough detail, and I have to stop the video and try to read the brand names of the products. So hopefully this will help you not have to do so much deep investigation! All the best!!!
I know you said you weren't interesting in selling this but it was a couple years ago so I was hoping that maybe you have changed your mind? lol I love this so much it is absolutely gorgeous and I would take very good care of it. To see the exact process of making a journal with folio pages, this video, below, will show you exactly what to do, and more. This is an amazing resource. Watch it ASAP, before it gets removed! It’s been up for years, but it’s such an amazing TOTALLY FREE resource, the author might realize it and take it down!
It’s called “How to Make An Art Journal for Beginners”
ruclips.net/video/2cy-I5rkLpY/видео.html
You don’t have to add the little beads at the edges of the pages.
For making this journal, you’ll need:
* An empty cereal box;she used a medium size of Cheerios.
* Two sheets of packing paper or two pages from a newspaper;
* Lineco Brand Neutral pH Adhesive; May be available at, Dick Blick Art stores, Joanne’s, Michael’s or Amazon. You could probably use another glue, but I think it’s best to use what the tutorial says, because it’s tried and true.
* Black craft sponge to apply the glue; I found about four at the thrift store for about 99 cents.
* Tissue paper of your choice;
* Acrylic paint color of your choice. 😂
* I think Michael’s sells Artist Loft Brand paints, and I think they are CRAFT quality and will FADE.

* Tapestry needle; available at Michael’s, Joanne’s Fabrics, or Walmart.
* Embroidery thread; (for stitching the signatures together. Available at Michael’s, Joanne’s Fabrics, or Walmart. You might also find this at a thrift store). A signature is nothing more than a folio- two or more pages folded and nested together to be sewn in the spine of a book.
* Scissors to cut the embroidery thread;
* Beads of your choice, if you want them;
* Two magnets to close your envelopes; These may be available at Michael’s or Joanne’s. You can ask for craft magnets. You can take a screen shot of the video when you see the magnet and show a sales associate the item and they’ll be able to tell if they carry it or not. Or you could get it online. However the shipping might be more expensive than the magnets! 😂
Of courses, if you could order all things via Amazon, and if you have Amazon Prime, the shipping is free if the order is over a certain amount of money.
Sakura Brand gel pens, black, white, and other desired colors
Sharpie-WATERBASED medium tip in white.
Also, do you have an Etsy? You obviously have very beautiful taste and I would love to check it out :)

You should sell your flowers as digitals
Washi tape is not real tape, my experience is that it will not hold if you use it without glue under it,
Excellent idea!
This is awesome! Thank you for sharing
