- Hi there! I'm Rosie, and welcome to my channel where I make surreal analog collages from thrifted used books and magazines! This week I wasn't exactly sure what we were going to make, so I started by flipping through some of my materials to find some inspiration! I landed on finding some octopuses and a family on a picnic and I was able to create some really silly collages.

Creating a handmade custom DIY surreal art collage is easy! I share my tips and techniques on how I create my analog collages as I cut out pictures and illustrations out by hand with a small pair of scissors and a craft knife. Finding inspiration from old books is one of the most fun steps to this process. These can come from used books, encyclopedias, magazines, vintage postcards, or anything else you can find lying around your house. I find most of my books and magazines from thrift stores, antique stores, flea markets, Craigslist, or even on the side of the road! Watch as I arrange my elements and try different ideas as I talk through my process to create my final design.
Collages made out of paper have a custom made feel that you can't get from a digital collage made in Photoshop. And, there is an added challenge of only being able to use materials that you have access to!
Want to try creating your own? Just grab a magazine, scissors, and a glue stick!

I love ❤the octopus behind the window! You have given me a whole new concept to junk journaling. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 TFS 🥰
I just found you. (Not that you were missing). I am already becoming a fan. I love surrealism and collage. Once again I'm kicking myself for helping my mother clear out my fathers treasure trove of magazines that he'd collected for years.
I love your “ah-ha” moments Rosie!
Your easy going, open attitude to new concepts is refreshing and so enjoyable. After watching your videos, I'm saving a more eclectic variety of magazine pictures to experiment with. Such fun! Thanks for sharing your ideas and techniques❣
Oh thank you so much! I'm glad to hear you find them helpful and inspiring. Happy collaging!
I love Rosie and her open, creativity, and her giggle. I have not found new ones. Has she stopped videos?
@@eastofhoney Rosie. I cannot find any 2023 videos of you. I SO enjoy all I have watched. Learnt so much, and love your presence. Just seems like I seen all. What have I lost? Where, how?
I'm not going to fault on discrepencies in how you make your own defection; breaking chemicals down is how science is made. and you are giving me happy vibes. I love you, apart from the sea and apart from the trees. I love you like an angel loves heart!
Omg I’ve been doing this art on and off for years and I cannot believe your channel just randomly popped up! You are awesome, I love your work! I wish I had cool friends like us 😂😂😂
Great ideas. May need to use sea reflection on the table to tie in a little more. Love that you collect images.
“Hide the mum under the lettuce” isn’t a sentence I thought I was going to hear today! 😂😂 I LOVE this, it’s inspired me so much. 🤗🇬🇧
Soooo fun….I do think taking a little bit of orange brown paint put into a blurry image of the e8 Dow reflection would add an even additional element
Wow. You are amazing. This is ART.😍
I loooove the octopus one!!
OMG I love the octopus one
LOVE the familly in the salad bowl, I did not think you can make it work, but you did so good.
The Octopus you choose is a little cartoony, and the reflection in the table did not work like this.
But you cant make every collage be a masterpiece(althought most of yours are so good) .
So happy I found your channel, love to watch every video you make!
Thanks for the inspiration. Awesome collage.
Love those eureka moments when something suddenly unexpected happens, its a feeling I chase after! :-)
I love this style of collage!
omg...finally found someone I can relate too their collage strategy!!
The family in the salad bowl is GREAT!!
Thank you for sharing your collages. You're an inspiration!!!
This is the first video of yours I've watched. Subscribed for sure. Love it!!
Love it … just looove what you are doing 😍🌺❤️😁🇩🇰🙏🏼
You are so creative I have the biggest smile on my face watching this!
I LOVE the family in the salad bowl!!
These look so fantastic!
This is the first time I have come across your videos. I love your enthusiasm about collage. I do alittle collage with the dylusions products but struggle using images from magazines. I think I think about it too much! haha Look forward to watching more of your videos. (Vickie from Nova Scotia) 🙂
That salad piece is great!
So glad I stumbled on your channel.
Love the quirkiness.
Yay! Welcome! Much more quirkiness to come
I LOVE both of these! Idea: It looks like the octopus is looking at someone/something.... Maybe put a cat or dog on the sofa, looking up at the octopus.
Awesome surrealistic ideas 😍
Another great video, thanks for the inspiration, can’t wait till the next one. 💗😀👍
Yay! I'm so glad to hear you find them inspiring :)
These two pieces belong in a gallery! They're so good!
Your work is brilliant so imaginative. Imagine the family having their picnic in a salad bowl! Doesn't bother me that adult stick up. The whole compilation is compelling and perfect. The living room likewise is beautiful and compelling. So glad I discovered ur channel
I love your ideas, so much fun. I'm a new subscriber as I just found your channel. I want to thank you for showing your face and not waggling your fingers around as though they can talk.😏
Omg...just magic...love it...awesomely well done🐙
You are super talented. Thank you for sharing hun Karen
Rosie, I just luv how your mind works! These were tres manifique!
Thank you! It comes up with some really weird things sometimes, but you've just gotta roll with it haha
Classics!💖🔥💖🔥💖🔥💖
Both great Rosie but I really love the octopus in the window.❤️Amy
I love the way you started the demonstration right away. So many RUclips producers start with five minutes or more of yakking. That is such a waste of time. Do it, don’t talk about it.
Ahahah so funny pages...I love a pick nick in a salad bowl...amazing 😊
Picnic! That is so bomb 😍
Beautiful!!!♥
Ahh yesss! I like the way you think!!
That looks so cool!
I just subscribed to your channel. Who are you a and where have you been all my life. 😂. I loved your video. Lol👍 family in a salad bowl?! What?!
Love the octopus and window one ..just amazing !!
hahahah love both the collages, they're really cool and amusing
Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed them :)
I love it ! Thank you for sharing! I am sooo excited to start making these collages!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Great imagination! REALLY love the Octopus! The family in the salad bowl just opened up a whole new way for me to 'travel' now. I've been wanting to use FOOD more in collaging, so this will work! Thank you SO much for your inspiration! (:
Yes! Food as always been a little scary for me, but I would love to use it more often! I need some more food books hahah
Really fun to see your eye for collage. Surrealistic!
Im love ure weird and silly thats what makes yours unique
LOVE THIS !!
I reeeeally like your style. Your videos are calm and inspiring. Enjoy watching your process and happy to understand what you say (I'm german). So happy that I found your channel :)
Btw I'm interested how you organize your backgrounds and cutouts. Maybe there is a chance for a special video like the one where you talk about your books and magazines :)
Oh thank you so so much! I'm so glad to hear that. I will make a video on that--as soon as I figure out which systems I like the best!
Love your collage work… very cool.. I’m sticking around to learn💜
This made me happy on a primal level 😂
I learned a lot in this video. You're so good at this, wow
This was so fun to watch you put together. Collecting collage supplies at the moment. Watching these has been a big help for me going forward!
Yay! So glad to hear that :) Happy collaging!
I just started collaging not too long ago and this video helped me out a TON so thank you a lot!
I would love to find magazines and books like those

I especially love the octopus
I use to do this all the time, thanks for inspiring me to get back into it.
Whau that is really awesome. You are my collage hero! I'm going to be waiting for you next video. Hugs from Denmark
Aww thank you SO much!
Amazing! You are so talented!
Bravo ! C'est génial ! j'adore. Merci !
These 2 might be my favorite. So good!
That's so much fun! awesome
Up, down, all around. I found a map that can't be found. So, north is toward the woods, and north is also toward the map's location we call the contiguous 48 of USA. I say, glistening eastern sea, but it's west to me, LA, took me for a look, that east would be a trip to bring the south back from the cliff.
Hey cool! Those rocks, hope well rocks are in my province, NB, 🇨🇦 Canada.
They are BOTH fabulous!
I really enjoyed this video! I really enjoy making collages too! Curious what you do with them once you’re finished.
These are great. So funny and quirky.
I think I would use a spray adhesive for the windows. 😁
Oh that is a good idea! Spray adhesive would have worked really well
I love it❤❤❤
Hi
I’m new to your channel!!!
Love your style your artwork is amazing ❤
no fear....your imagination is endless
You’re right, picnic family is humorous but octopus window is fantastic, as usual. Since octopuses are very intelligent, it does make since that they would try to get past a window.....it would be funny if a family or person in shock was in the living room. Love your art as you know! Linda. Question: are all your saved images filed in folders?
I like her idea of person in room. I thought that myself. Also reflection of window in table is weird. Maybe a person could cover that up? But always enjoyable. I love the way your mind works
I keep all my full pages and bigger images in a filling system, but my smaller cutouts are just in a box and it's such a mess. Once I figure out a good system I will make a whole video on it!
Great collages.
I couldn't resist playiing my mega super star shark, el octopus!
Both fun collages 😊😊
This is awesome!
Love these!
You are amazing!
Pretty cool. I love doing collage art it’s my favorite right now. I’ve made some really cool ones while I was manic (I’m bipolar) but I threw them away shortyl afterwards 😔. Nevertheless, keep doing what you do. This is inspiring!
New to your channel. Enjoyed the video very much! Fun art!
Yay! Welcome! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed it :)
So, rock and roll saved my mortal soul, but I croosed a line that can't be stopped. Ending in perfection of illiteracy. I will never return to the sea. I have so many people in me. I bluff so foolishly, when I could just describe him at dinner, with his cup of coffee. It feels so much better, and I know that life is lost forever. But there is a deep and sounding blast, when the choices in life line up against the best!
I love it. Greetings from Brazil. ❤
Stumbled across you last night & you've inspired me! What do you do with your end product? Do you frame them up?
Awesome!
Are you the only youtuber who cuts collages like this like at 2:20 )etc. I was thinking of making video content exclusively so that you can see the hands and what is being cut and put together while a certain train of thought takes place behind it. I would use scalpels and a background like you have and I would cut different old ones (my own pictures and possibly some other materials). In fact, I'm looking at how to avoid filming only myself and still not waste a lot of time editing.
Enjoyed watching your process and the results but a bit worried that the octopus and water are not reflected in the shiny coffee table which still shows blank, grey reflexion..
