Everything you've said is so true. I have plastic tubs to the ceiling. I know how easy it is to keep collecting stuff that would look good in a junk journal, but then I never use them. I actually found a charity that takes stuff and I was so happy to get rid of it all. The company was so over whelmed with my hoard from my scrapooking days. I still have heaps of things but they are the pretty stuff for my journals. Thankyou for your utube, it has opened my eyes.
Thank you- watching this finally light my fire. I finally got it together thanks to you. I’ve gotten rid of at least 3 full kitchen bags that went to dumpster. I don’t have 3 totes- but it’s very limited Gave a friend a big stack of paper. I even threw out stuff that was sentimental that had a negative triggers the whole tote. Thank you 😊😊
As a new paper crafter, I have been wondering how I was going to store my slowly growing collection in my limited storage/work space. I LOVE THIS! This the first time I have seen any of your videos. You have a new subscriber. Thanks for the great tip.
I understand that there are 2 types of people in the world: Savers and throw-away ers. I am a saver and think the word "purge" is a bad word. All my ephemera is alphabetized in a big file drawer. Don't feel the need to get rid of it, but I understand that there are many people like you in the world. To each his own, but for me, organization is the key to not being overwhelmed. Take care! 😊
Great channel. I'm a reseller, have built up a moderately sizable store on eBay specializing in ephemera, though I started with old books. Was a hobby business, but selling what I already love proved to be worthwhile and I have been able to go professional. It is great to be able experience the hidden, forgotten, and unusual history that lies within ephemera, be it from the 40s or the 1880s. Its a way to connect with the past that is unbiased.
Thanks for sharing your tips! My magazine clippings hoard and various other ephemera hoard is highly out of hand and I am honestly tempted to do a blind purge and basically start over with a system like this in place. This video has been very inspiring to see!
Hidden box(es!!!!) hahahaha - yip hand shot up here. The other day when I was doing a project I didn't even go through any of the stored ephemera collection (much too time consuming) but went straight to new magazines to look for images. Definitely a very timely video.
This is the best idea/system I have seen for paper and ephemera...... I am going to blind purge mine and I am overwhelmed but I will get there.....I love your idea and I will get it in place and stop drowning in my paper 🤣🤣🤣 I am not buying craft supplies this year and I think this wrill help me have a more controlled craft space. Thankyou 😄
I'm just getting started in this space. But after binging on other creators my first conclusion is some of these folks have way too much and even if they stopped buying today they would not be able to create with everything even if they did a project a day! So I have decided I need to have two or three themes for the quarter (that's where I'm starting) and not clip or buy anything that isn't part of those themes. When I clip from books and magazines if it doesn't fall into those predetermined themes I leave it in its original source and when I'm done harvesting that source I will put it away until my next harvest. I like the idea of sorting and putting things in front and then getting rid of what's in the back. I also like your idea of passing along what you don't use to the next artist. Your trash is their treasure.
You literally SAVED me from myself LOL This video may be 2 years old but it is still so helpful! And so freeing LOL My art space looks so good now!! Thank you!!!
Love it! Getting ready to downsize and go more minimalistic and was already trying to organize the hoards of paper unsuccessfully! This may be the answer! Now for the other printed papers such as digitals and scrapbook paper!! Thank you!
I just found your channel searching for organization systems. Love this idea!!! I am very organized but have ephemera in boxes and bins and never reach for it. I am going to try your system - and the blind purge is brilliant!
I'm a little late watching this, life has been super busy. Thanks for your help with this Roxanne. I recently went through all of this ephemera& sentimental stuff that I've been storing for YEARS.... I was able to condense it all into 3 small boxes in decreasing sizes. I don't get to journal often so I needed covered storage. This really makes it all so much easier to work with. Thanks again Roxanne!
So good to see you saying and doing this. It truly shocks me how much STUFF American crafters own.. It's like they own a shop. How can they possibly know what they have or use it???
What causes it is the sheer volume of new stuff coming out constantly. Back in thr early 80's when I started cross stitching, new stuff didn't come out as often. There were a couple of monthly magazines, but new pattern books didn't come out as often as craft supplies do now. My entire cross stitch supplies fit into 2 medium size storage tubs. My scrapbook supplies are a whole other story. I have way too much. I learned early on, tho, that if I didn't buy something that caught my eye that it'd probably be gone if I came back to get it a week or so later.
I FEEL SEEN. Haha. Thanks for the tips! I have hidden boxes, envelopes, etc. I've got a long weekend coming up and I feel an organizing project coming on!
I got rid of all my ephemera a few years ago and that felt SO GOOD. Since then, I don't collect any physical ephemera, but a few digital files I print if I need a ledger or a nice vintage letter. That's it. The rest is my own ephemera, that I create with stamps and inks and I enjoy it so much!
I watched this in the past and I purged my papers. It felt amazing!!! It is time to purge again because they so easily add up! #paperhoarder I am thinking I should use this system for every supply I have. Give it a dedicated space and not go past that space. One bin for magazines that need to be clipped, one bin for coloring books, etc. Inspired to destash and organize! I thrift shop and the deals that can be found on supplies is too crazy that it can be hard to pass up! $20 paints for $2, lol. Maybe a no spend is in order. Haha. 😂
So happy I found this! I have a stash, larger than I'd like to admit, and I don't always have time to art journal because I'm always doing some other craft or working. I really like the system that you set up for yourself and I hope to apply a similar system for myself and pare down my stash and start creating again. 😊
I SO NEEDED TO SEE THIS. IVE been creating a craft room. Hoard had begun 3 🌙 ago. W/all tube info. Avoiding the "doesn't work" ahead of time has been priceless. Thank u, on the insistence of discipline, "goes out when new comes in" I hope to share videos soon. Happy crafting 🎨
I really ❤ this idea. Since I am limited on space. I think instead of 3 bins I will use 3 Pouches of different sizes S, M, L. This way I can file them on a shelf or drawer and they will take up minimal space. I think the blind purge will help, as well. I’ll see how this works for a bit and tweak it if needed. Thank you so much for sharing.
I have adopted the three bin system. I have two small take away containers that would hold cold slaw that I use for my small pieces one for the cut out words I use in my work and one for the small pieces. I too keep scrapbook paper separate. Love the open system as it calls me to create when I see it. Thanks for sharing your tips and tricks. 💕🐞💕
This is a timely video, Roxanne! I'm starting to go through all my ephemera. I have recently found a ton of ephemera in different boxes. Ugh! I will definitely try your 3 bins system. Thanks for sharing!
This is seriously a needed informative topic. We bed to have this system as little packages of this and that just get hoarded and unused as you say. Love this so much!! Thank you by Bun. X👏🏾👏🏻👏🏾👏🏻🤩💐👑🎉🥰⬆️💕
I didn’t realize I was doing this until this video. I keep a large box next to me divided into three categories, but I need to get individual compartments to help keep it corralled like you have. Especially the tiny words I end up digging for! - Dollar Tree here I come! Thank you! I’ve subscribed! ❤
Hi this came across my feed! I hope this 17 minute video will teach me something I’ve never heard , of😂 I’ve spent too many hours which probably equate to months, at the least. I have to create in a super small space. And consolidated ALL the paper into one centre like Marie Kondo to see how much 😮 i have. Yet, haven’t purged yet. - Until i finally got the perspective to change…. It isn’t happening…. Next step to PURGE. By bun , your system sounds like mine is now. Chalked full in those huge bins! Happy arting and journaling!
Great idea! What i decided is that I'll have a time limit for stuff & if I dont use it, it will go to my local swap group. Just started collecting things & i cant let it get out control- i live in apartment!
Well as a former michaels employee, I have more like a 5 bin system... like the 12x12 iris cases. BUT in comparison to how bad it used to be, i have improved and don't expand beyond that. I even donated a ton recently making an employee recognition board at work. This whole video i wanted you to stand up so I could see the rest of your shirt! I've been itching to re-watch midsommar but my boyfriend was like, "why?" 🙄 Anyway, thanks for sharing! I like seeing how other people manage their stuff. Have a good one.
Great system! Getting ready to setup my first in home studio and I will definitely be keeping this idea in mind. I’d also love to see how you organize your actual art making space/desk area if you’re willing to share!
First time watching, very new to junk journaling but been into art forever in som form or another. I like being organized so I enjoyed your three bin system. I’m still trying to figure out what ephemeral is but I’ll get there some day.
Oew...in the middle of re-doing my organizing systems in mt craftroom. Going to see how i can implement this sort of system on projects and regular stuff😁
I’m a newbie and just getting started. So how do we know what enemphra we like to most. I guess would be my question 🙋♀️ I already live scrapbooking. I love your idea 3-bin system. I’m getting to hoard to much an only been doing it 3-mons
I guess each person needs to decide what "container" that they need to stop at. Your container is those 3 bins. My container is my craft room. The art and craft supplies cannot grow beyond my craft room or I have to stop buying and work on more projects. I would NEVER do a blind purge to start over on any of my crafts though. I do have some boxes of random stuff I keep "just in case" but that's a minimal part of my stash. My mom has been giving me a lot of her craft stuff as she gets older, luckily she has good taste and it's all quality materials I can use.
Hi there 👋🏼 This was an awesome video. I’m just setting up my very first craft room and I’m going to use this system from day one so I never get overwhelmed. New friend here 🎉
This is perfect! I do have a question, I separate my ephemera (large, small and DAMN small) Do you consider things sentimental part of that OR are you good at quickly doing stuff with...ticket stubs, love notes, scribbles that your kid drew? because THAT is another bin for me!!
Oh yeah…sentimental stuff goes into a small pouch that I have, that then gets put into my planner journal 👍 but similar mindset with that: it’s one small container, and I have to empty it out every so often (by journaling/junk journaling with it)
With my 4 kiddos, each one has a binder with polypropylene sleeves. When sentimental things come home, it goes directly into their sleeve. Every once in awhile, the kids can weed out. It’s been easy for us.
Was excited to watch, but not so much half way through....but if that's what works for you, fantastic. I guess your view and mine of ephemera is totally different. I see ephemera as being items i may bulk make to use in journals, cards, art pieces etc, plus papers/headingsthat catchthe eye! No offence intended...
"Blind purge" is what my entire house is currently missing. I will need to try that.
Everything you've said is so true. I have plastic tubs to the ceiling. I know how easy it is to keep collecting stuff that would look good in a junk journal, but then I never use them. I love this idea! I need to do a blind purge of my craft room and just keep basic journaling supplies. Keep things simple.

Me: Looks up “Ephemera”
Me: “Oh, that’s what my collections are called!”
haha, this was me in 2009 when I first learned what it was called too.

Love this! I have a craft room that just has me stressed at this point. I'm going to take this Saturday and revamp the room!! Thank you!!
I’m in the process of decluttering my tiny craft space and really enjoyed this video. Lots of great ideas I’m going to try out!
Excellent! 👏
Thanks, this was a good eye opener, as im going thru and revamping my studio😊
I’m definitely going to try this. Sounds terrific 👍🏼

3 bins secret: large, medium, small - in a large open container.

I have been leaning towards a 3 bin system, I like having the same sizes together. But now I just need to restrict the size! That is key.
I'm excited to purge and sort then use
New subscriber. Great tips and 3 bin system! Thanks for sharing!

2:38- can relate- I'm using 10 free boxes from lidl- and I don't want to do this anymore-
Dankeschön
You have willpower.
Hi there 👋🏼 This was an awesome video. I’m just setting up my very first craft room and I’m going to use this system from day one so I never get overwhelmed. New friend here 🎉
Gold!!❤
I feel attacked 😂😂😂
I have that same tarot deck❤

What are the dimensions of the large plastic box that you store your separate bins in?
I feel a purge coming on!!
what's in the tubs behind you? great video.
What all is in there? Magazine clippings?

A great system❤️💯🌈🕊🙏🏻🎉🎊

I spend money on Vintage ephemera. Purchase from all over the world: France, The Netherlands, etc. I could NEVER blind purge those papers!!
😢
Sorry to disagree.....there r no rules in making art....TGT
I agree. This isn’t making art…it’s organizing materials.
