Tip: do not remove any fluid from the reservoir and keep the cap on. This lessens the likelihood of introducing bubbles at the top of the system and keeps the fluid from running freely (you lose less fluid). Also, this is a great mod with real benefit but you have to do the rear lines as well. There are 4 total in the rear to replace and the lines in inner position are a PITA. Always wear gloves and eye protection when working around brake fluid, and clean up thoroughly after! Brake fluid can eat your paint!
For anyone wondering, if your fitting isnt spinning free, you will snap your brake line. Take a torch and heat the old brake line where it meets the hardline. Itll break free fairly easy. I just did this job and it went well after heating the lines to break them free.
If you have an old BMW which lives outside California, your brake hose connection will not look like this. And it won’t come off at all. You’ll turn the nut and shear off the solid brake line. Then you’ll have to get on the bus down to BMW to get some replacement parts. There is a clip above which you need to prise off. Lots of videos on RUclips showing you how. Appreciate the video, but in the UK, Europe, Rust belt, basically most places, this technique will wreak havoc.
Saw a video about stoptech recently and they actually hand assemble their brake lines in Southern California. Not sure where they source the bulk parts though (SS line, fittings, washers, etc).
