This is the hardest game I remember playing as a kid. Once a month I would rent it, give up at the turbo tunnel, rinse and repeat. Nice to finally see rest of the game. I don't think there's any way I would have ever beaten half of this game.
Fun fact about this version, it was made by Arc System Works rather than Rare themselves. And it improved on a lotta areas, like the more powerful music, extra detailed graphics, a much clearer continue system, a higher starting life count, slowed down vehicle sequences and some extra levels, too
Well Genesis a 16 Bits Console, is almost twice more powerful than the classic NES (8 Bits console) and I not talking about just the bits, but Genesis was a generation ahead thanthe NES. And those days (80's and 90's) when Games Companies trying to do a re-release a classic game to a next gen console they used to redone the whole game as if a new game. Not like now days when they try to release for PS4 or PS3 a game from PS2 or PS1 they do a crappy thing about just add "HD" to it but the game is the same or even worse.
@Angel Rivera Santana, there are no extra levels in this version, i don't know where you got that from, but you need to get your facts straight, before posting your nonsense. It just shows that you've never played both games to completion, and probably saw a warped playthrough of the NES version, and then when you saw this video you probably thought the ice cavern and fire level to be "extra levels". It's laughable! Play the games first, then try to spill facts about them on the internet.
My favorite game on the NES. Didn't know it was also released on the Genesis. I'll have to look for the emulator for it. The creativity and the humor in this game was second to none. No one ever had a boss fight from the perspective of the boss. No one else thought to have an enemy that doesn't bother attacking you, rather, just goes straight for your health meter at the top the the screen! Hilarious! Crush the snowmen, then use the snow balls. And then racing a glowing ball around a track... just incredible.
Shocked at the comments always loved the music in this game. Didn't play the nes version but looked back at it on RUclips and this version looks like an all round improvement
imho everything but the music is improved. It really sounds like crap on FM Synthesis. Sounds like they rushed through creating the music. The game also seems a lot easier. Parts have been cut out and there seem to be several places where you can just cheese it and trap enemies.
Battle Cat Like the intro music sounds way more bad ass and still timeless without compromising by making it too “kewl”. Battlemaniacs’ soundtrack was disappointing to me, maybe due to how the sound chip for SNES was designed?
I gotta say, the Turbo Tunnel theme is the only thing I like better about this version. The bass line is just so delivering, and it makes me wanna get up and go drive a go-kart. It's more intense than even my version.
@ M J I just had a go playing this game on the Mega EverDrive X 7 and I had to save state every few seconds of game play just to get through it and even that didn't work for too long, I gave up on the last level as I got sick of spamming the save button. The game starts off great but by the time you get to the third level it starts raping you. What a shame! A great action platformer spoiled by it's ridiculously hard difficulty setting and thousands upon thousands of dick moves! It's basically Rare's version of Sonic Heroes where every sequenced move has to be timed pixel perfect in order to succeed. No wonder I ignored it for over 15 years.
I don't get the negativity in the comments. The Genesis version is superior. The graphics are very nice and the sound is one of the better Genesis soundtracks. It sounds just as good as the original, if not better. It also has a slightly fairer difficulty. The only thing I don't like is the artwork. The Dark Queen looks hideous. And why do the toads have the same sprites as the NES while everything else is redrawn?
I agree. Listening to the excellant music of the Shinobi series on the Sega Genesis, the developers of the Genesis Battletoads could've done a whole heck of a better job on the soundtrack. I guess they were just hoping to capitalize on the popularity of Battletoads on the NES and simply decided to just do enough.
I love how everyone’s complaining about how the soundtrack is apparently inferior to the NES version. Whereas I actually prefer the Genesis version’s soundtrack. To me, the NES version’s music sounds dull and half-muted.
Nice run. However as a person who beat the game on the original NES, I can tell you that game is quite a bit harder. There is a definite slowdown in speed that makes things easier. This is ESPECIALLY true in the racing levels of 3, 5, and MOST IMPORTANTLY 7. Level 7 even eliminates some of the obstacles. Also the bosses move slower and they fall to the ground EVEN SLOWER making it easy to string multiple repeated attacks. And finally the 2nd to last level (Garangtua) moves slower as well as the orb. There were stretches where you could not even see it on screen. Not possible on NES. Again it is a nice run, but if you really want a challenge, do the NES port.
ALL the game was made significantly easier - On snake level there is a LOT space between spikes, On surf - mines moves REALY slow. In the second lvl (where u use rope) the screen will not move when u hit the crow. So, making MORE lives is very-very easy. In ice lvl ALL moving much slower. On Volcano - gates moves slower AND have more space to go through. In pipes: robots dont blow up, when u touch them, eels and golden fishes dont move like crazy. And, most frustrating - In Rat race and Ball race - u have SIGNIFICANTLY more time! So much, that ANYONE can handle this lvls.
32:43 - WTH? All of their developers, programmers, and designers must have been molested and beaten by their bosses. Because no one in their right mind is able to finish this. I barely made it to the race. I had to wait to grow into me teens to get to the snake. I'm in my late 30s and I still can't beat this.
The real creator of Nightmares: the freakin orb level. Turbo Tunnel is a joke in comparison. (Even though orb level is too easy in this version, NES orb was merciless)
This is my preferred version, it's a game. The nes being 8 - bit just isn't as much fun. The platform detection is bad and the level 10 boss sometimes doesn't appear and you have to reset. Don't play that one with 2 people either unless you're really good, when you get to level 11 you have to use a continue.
that final queen boss. Lands on same spot, doesn't make the Toad run left or right dodging the tornado. Also the tornado never fully descends. I guess its logical because the game is hard, something has to be easy at the end.
Just passed the turbo tunnel! It aint even a week from my comment how i predicted that i could beat it roughly before summer. It seems i underestimated myself big time. With 1-3 short playing sessions per week, i probaply can beat this tunnel roughly sometime before summer. I find those very narrow ramps the most annoying obstacle in this tunnel so far. Im constantly little unsure where the correct driving line to succesful jump goes. It aint so easy as it seems, if you dont believe me just take a look at the end of the 1st stage where the first 1up is situated. Would you first have jumped where he jumps in order to get that 1up?
