Yea I was a little kid when I played and was stuck on first level and thought that was the only level bit had no problem with it cause I loved the music
I thought you get GRINDED to death on Level 3, I thought it would show you Sonic getting grinded to chunks, then Level 2, I thought Sonic would get burned to death you could see his skeleton, and Level 1, I thought when you get eaten, there would be body parts in the water. (blood included)
This is the best pinball game ever made, and also the scariest Sonic game. Like other commenters here, the monsters and level design gave me nightmares as a kid...
Can we talk about how Eggman just freaking DIED at the end? He fell from space into his volcano fortress, which sunk beneath the sea and went up in a nuclear explosion. That's downright Rasputinian. But no matter what happens, he always returns...
Thanks for the upload. This game came with my Sega when I was a kid. I never got past level 3, close to 20 years later this curiosity itch has been scratched. Cheers.
Memories! I use to play this tons as a kid...I always used to steamroll the first 3 levels but lose all my lives on the last level. I eventually beat it as a 25 year old. Nice video :)
I was, and am, much more of a gamer than my brother, but there were three games that he was way better than me at; Shining Force, Metal Gear Solid, and Sonic Spinball.
One of the most underrated video games of all time. Definitely my favourite sonic video game and favorite Genesis game. It's too bad they didn't make more levels
I remember this game when I was a kid. It was my least favourite out of Sonic games. I agree with most of the comments, it was frustrating and confusing. I never made it past the 2nd level.
im 18 and when i was a kid (like 6 or 7) my mom gave me her old genesis and atari they were my first vidoe games, this and lethal enforcer were my childhood. randomly thought about this game and had to see it again, this video actually made me cry a little bit just off of pure nostalgia
I absolutely love the messages at the top of the screen -- they have so much character. :D WORM BAGGED GO FOR THE CART! GRAND SLAM! CLUCK ALERT SEWER TIME!! HOG WILD!
For a Sonic the Hedgehog game made by mostly non-Japanese staff members, I thought Sonic Spinball was good, albeit hard as fuck. However, I want to choke the level designer(s) of the last level and the genius that decided not give you continues in this game.
Is there even a button for jumping with the default controls? I remember playing this in a store way back, and all three buttons on the controller triggered the flippers. When Sonic falls into the platform in the middle, the robot dragon starts eating him, and the text yells "THE BUTTONS", I'd spam the hell out of everything...which of course did nothing.
For years whenever i heard MC hammers cant touch this, i knew that a specific sound in the song was from a game (or vice versa). This is definitely the game.
When I was younger, I found an instruction manual of this game at my grandmother's house after we moved in with her. I kept it because SONIC, and I still have it to this day. (because Sonic) Strangely enough though, I don't ever recall ever SEEING a Genisis around her house, much less a Sonic game, even with other family members living with her before us. I remember seeing a PlayStation, but never a Genisis!
Did you know theres a game called sonic chaos and spinball it was a controller you could just plug into your tv with no system, i still have it and play it, nostalgia its awesome, am i right?
Someone REALLY needs to do a video on this game's secrets. For example, you get extra points for switching paths on the cart in Toxic Caves. You can repeat this action, but eventually the game stops you from switching any more, and the text at the top says "HEY, CUT IT OUT!" I want to see all of the things like this...
Loved this game when I was young. Super effin hard though. I think I made it to the third level but that's as far as I ever got. For the longest time I didn't even know what to do to progress through the damn game! Still loved it though. Nostalgia hittin hard watching this playthrough.
I had this game as a kid (I basically had every Sonic game on my Genesis/Mega Drive-it was my first youth craze before Pokemon came out in my early teens)... I remember finishing it, but yeah it was MUCH harder than Sonic's standard platform games...nothing more infuriating than to reach the last boss room on that rocket, then having a gutter ball and falling back to the bottom of the level...smfh xD Wish I could replay it once in a while for fun, unfortunately my Genesis and all its games perished in a fire long ago :(
I remember getting a Sega for my birthday when I was 9 or so only thing I wanted and this was the game I got with it I played for hours the nostalgia makes me sad seems like a lifetime ago almost 20 or so years ago
Nice vid! Weird you went the long way around in Machine (at 17:01) to get to the Left-side shaft instead of just jumping over (you go to the right shaft, through the Animal Prison, and back to the left haha) Either way, keep it up! :) - Ryan
I remember getting to the second last level when I was 6 years old. Then my Grandfather took my Brother and I to Dairy queen, so I paused it and left my game on pause so I could resume it later. When I came back my sega genesis broke and took my progress with it. Needless to say I was slightly annoyed because this game was quite hard.
This game made me rage so much back in the day. The final level constantly tossed Sonic straight down the middle between flippers or some shit. Could get a perfect game all up until then, and lose game over the end.
it's amazing what your brain can forget. when i was a kid i got to the last level, but never beat it... i remember NOTHING about stage 3 at all. 1 and two are like a second nature to me though.
I could never get passed the 2nd boss. I also thought that there were only 7 emeralds, because of obvious reasons. I thought once I got passed the 2nd stage, I'd just have to collect one more emerald on the 3rd level and I'd fight Robotnik one last time lol
Never got past the first level. Didn't even know there were other levels lmao
Yea I was a little kid when I played and was stuck on first level and thought that was the only level bit had no problem with it cause I loved the music
Allen Moody yeah just got a genisis and haveing a lot of trouble with the first level
GayTree yep I remember playing this on the mega collection for the GameCube. I tried so hard to pass this level but I could just never do it.
Same
this is basically an anxiety attack in game form.
That intro with the vast ocean and Robotnik's tower..just gets me. That's the thing I remember the most.
I love that intro.
Sparky
what I remember the most is the Toxic Caves and its music, I just love it.
It use to freak me out as a kid so I would only get up to the first boss before giving up since it scared me too much
That intro is awesome
This game was fun but it scared the shit out of me as a kid
Deja vu there. it scared the heck out of me. That first level boss would've gave me nightmares (if I got to him by then)
Samuel Krinhop
EEE EEE EEEEEE. EEE EEE EEEEEE. EEE EEEE EEEE EEEEEEEEE.
The scariest part is dropping into the bottom of level 2, it's like you're falling into HELL
I have to agree dude. The 3rd stage is the one that used to scare the shit out of me. Good times fam
I thought you get GRINDED to death on Level 3, I thought it would show you Sonic getting grinded to chunks, then Level 2, I thought Sonic would get burned to death you could see his skeleton, and Level 1, I thought when you get eaten, there would be body parts in the water. (blood included)
Amazing.
I had a nightmare about that water snake when I was a little kid. It was one of the first nightmares I ever had.
amazing memory! My first dreams were also nightmares
@@kwllolpop8210 The one that eats you if you fall below the paddles
this game was so hard that just playing the first stage for 2-3 hours a day was enough for me...
This is the best pinball game ever made, and also the scariest Sonic game. Like other commenters here, the monsters and level design gave me nightmares as a kid...
Just robotniks presentation is spooky
When I was little I thought Sonic's feet in the title screen looked like skis.
Poor you
@@ym2612girl me too!
This game is almost as scary as echo the dolfin
Dougcraft_47 Ecco
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Oh I hate that game..
Dougcraft_47 It's ECCO THE DOLPHIN.
Echo scares me... Even today
;-;
Sadly Toxic caves was the only stage that I ever finished.-_-
0:21 Opening
0:45 Toxic Caves
5:53 Trapped Alive
7:26 Lava Powerhouse
11:35 Robo Smile
12:58 The Machine
21:00 The March
22:40 Scene 2 - Falling Fortress
22:51 Showdown
32:36 Endings
Love this game as a kid but could never beat it
Can we talk about how Eggman just freaking DIED at the end? He fell from space into his volcano fortress, which sunk beneath the sea and went up in a nuclear explosion. That's downright Rasputinian.
But no matter what happens, he always returns...
It’s like if SEGA has some kind of villain recovery center.
That, and the sound he made was the closest thing possible on a 16-bit console to the scream of a pig being slaughtered.
Takes me back to those days. Early shot at electronic music before I knew what that was.
yo the music in Sonic Spinball is so. good.
Thanks for the upload. This game came with my Sega when I was a kid. I never got past level 3, close to 20 years later this curiosity itch has been scratched. Cheers.
James C I got past level three only a few times but I'd only have one life left each time. Hence, I didn't last long in level four lol.
Your nerves while falling fast as shit towards the bottom after unlocking the boss room smh
Memories!
I use to play this tons as a kid...I always used to steamroll the first 3 levels but lose all my lives on the last level.
I eventually beat it as a 25 year old.
Nice video :)
This game is/was so frustrating. One half of a level could take you five minutes and the other half will take you fifteen to twenty lol.
I ruled at this game, but I could never get the last emerald on the last level. This was 23 years ago when I was 12. Good times!
which one? The last level has some quite creative emerald placements. I like the ones off to the side that you essentially need to explore to find.
30:12 Out of all final boss quotes ever, this one might just be the best.
This was a very hard game, I beat this game 4 times back in the day. I love the music in this game :)
Even the options?
The options was the only one that sounded abit annoying lol but it was alright :)
To be honest the options music is quite catchy... if you lower your volume first.
ever notice that each boss while sharing the same theme has their own variation of said theme?
I remember this game when I was a kid. It was my least favourite out of Sonic games. I agree with most of the comments, it was frustrating and confusing. I never made it past the 2nd level.
I rented this multiple times from Blockbuster. Never beat the second stage.
I understand how the 1st boss can be scary.
I understand how all of them can be scary!
The Box That Could
It's called a Rexxon.
And my race isn't scary. He's fake.
Robotnik The Spider
We must be long lost twins!
REEEE
TIL all those times I thought I almost beat this game were a fucking tease, and I NEVER even came close. Fuck.
I've never before realized that you can see Sonic's reflection while he's playing the bonus stage xD looks so cute and concentrated
And his eyes follow the movement of the ball.
im 18 and when i was a kid (like 6 or 7) my mom gave me her old genesis and atari they were my first vidoe games, this and lethal enforcer were my childhood. randomly thought about this game and had to see it again, this video actually made me cry a little bit just off of pure nostalgia
The 3rd level is my aesthetic. I also think it's one of the best platform game levels I've seen since. Gosh the level design for this game was good
OH GOD THAT OPTION MENU THEME
aaaa the memories of 1996 when i got my first Sega Genesis. I had This Game, Altered Beast, Aladin, and Mortal kombat
Alan Magdaleno 93
1:02 Fun Fact: The fist bump song's melody and all that stuff actually came from this part of toxic caves song here.
To me,this game is hard as nails...but addictive as well.
when u leave the game on sonic says ANYWONE THERE
I loved playing this on my beautiful uncle Shawns ps3 with the ultimate classic collection of sega..
I absolutely love the messages at the top of the screen -- they have so much character. :D
WORM BAGGED
GO FOR THE CART!
GRAND SLAM!
CLUCK ALERT
SEWER TIME!!
HOG WILD!
BIG MISTAKE
SMELL MY SOCKS!!!!!
TOO BAD
You beasted that last level, I always had trouble with the 2 emeralds on the side.
This game creeped me so much as a kid. I always hated this one 😂. That lizard thing was the worst
EEEEEEEEE!! EEEEEEEE!!! those bosses are hilarious!
Wow I'm glad I saw this learned a lot, past me would have probably been like wtf! And I couldn't even pass the 2nd level
For a Sonic the Hedgehog game made by mostly non-Japanese staff members, I thought Sonic Spinball was good, albeit hard as fuck. However, I want to choke the level designer(s) of the last level and the genius that decided not give you continues in this game.
Emulator = needed
PsychicVortex for save states
+PsychicVortex: In my humble opinion, save-state abuse for this game is completely understandable and justified.
Loader2K1
What are you talking about exactly? There were lots of Japanese staff members who made this.
This game was so grungy. Lol definitely fit the 90s era. By the way I was one of the few that almost beat this damn game when I was a kid.
Ahh I remember this channel it used to be my go to when I was younger and wanted to watch long plays
Damn right in the childhood
idk what compelled me to play this game today but i managed to beat it, the last time i played it tho was years and years ago
Fun Fact: The graphics for The Machine(3rd level) was originally going to be Genocide City.
Renamed to Cyber City.
I wish this game played perfectly for me like this back then when I was more active with this game
kunckles213 hi knuckles
Wow. Awesome at platforming and pinball. Congrats amy this game is still hard as balls but that's probably why i like it
I've never made it past the second stage, this game is hard as hell >< Music is great though.
On the bonus level, you can see Sonic's eyes in the foreground following the pinball. Cool effect.
1:19 I remember my friend and I would go crazy and start laughing when that thing popped up! 😂 Good Times!
This looks fun but some parts are still pretty scary
if you collect all the rings a special bonus stage appears in each level
If you were able to get past the first level as a child then you must have been a really special kid.
This is the first game I ever played it's crazy watching it almost 20 years later
The musics sounds like Adlib/Sound blaster on DOS, which is really cool!
My first Sega Genesis game. Yeah, I learned to love hard video games right away lol.
excuse me did robotnik frickin die
N. Oil good thing this is only a spinoff game
i had no idea what i was doing in this game butt good times
The first boss gave me chills
For years whenever i heard MC hammers cant touch this, i knew that a specific sound in the song was from a game (or vice versa). This is definitely the game.
I remember playing this game after basketball whenever it came out as a kid. Loved it. people talking about it giving them nightmares.. why?
I think its because of that fucking uh "EEEEE" the eggman robots do.
I just heard it after you beat Eggman. I thought it was him letting loose a girly scream.
When I was younger, I found an instruction manual of this game at my grandmother's house after we moved in with her. I kept it because SONIC, and I still have it to this day. (because Sonic)
Strangely enough though, I don't ever recall ever SEEING a Genisis around her house, much less a Sonic game, even with other family members living with her before us. I remember seeing a PlayStation, but never a Genisis!
Did you know theres a game called sonic chaos and spinball it was a controller you could just plug into your tv with no system, i still have it and play it, nostalgia its awesome, am i right?
Damn I need to find a plug and play Sonic Spinball machine, my life would be complete!
anyone else ever noticed that when Robotik was falling back to his sinking volcano that when it color change that he changed in sync with it?
Robotnik: *Gets hit*
Also Robotnik: *Spams Emojis*
well done you got all th Emeralds on is Pinball and beat off the High Score way too go Amy.
I used to be so bad at level 3 and 4 when in was a kid!
There are levels?
Someone REALLY needs to do a video on this game's secrets. For example, you get extra points for switching paths on the cart in Toxic Caves. You can repeat this action, but eventually the game stops you from switching any more, and the text at the top says "HEY, CUT IT OUT!" I want to see all of the things like this...
Loved this game as a kid. My cousin hated it. I gotta emulate this asap.
I swear the machine is the most complicated pinball level ever created
Loved this game when I was young. Super effin hard though. I think I made it to the third level but that's as far as I ever got. For the longest time I didn't even know what to do to progress through the damn game! Still loved it though. Nostalgia hittin hard watching this playthrough.
ahh the nostalgia I used to love this game back before I even turned ten me and a brother of mine would spend hours on this
I had this game as a kid (I basically had every Sonic game on my Genesis/Mega Drive-it was my first youth craze before Pokemon came out in my early teens)...
I remember finishing it, but yeah it was MUCH harder than Sonic's standard platform games...nothing more infuriating than to reach the last boss room on that rocket, then having a gutter ball and falling back to the bottom of the level...smfh xD
Wish I could replay it once in a while for fun, unfortunately my Genesis and all its games perished in a fire long ago :(
i never got past the first stage
When I was a kid, I was SCARED of this game!
This game is my childhood!!!!!!!!
I remember getting a Sega for my birthday when I was 9 or so only thing I wanted and this was the game I got with it I played for hours the nostalgia makes me sad seems like a lifetime ago almost 20 or so years ago
I can't let my self be slave anymore, 2 sonic hack's, i have 2 wait for sonic mania spring 2017.
I got to the last boss when I was younger and only had one life and I lost
ah such nostalgic memories :)
shadyatem it reminds me of playing thin on my ipod going to get pizza with my dad. Good times...
I never knew there were other levels. And I sure as heck never knew what was going on when I played at the age of 8
Alright, Now let's put "FUNKY" back in "ACTION"!!!
I would have never gotten past machine without seeing this
You know what i mean, sonic hacks that rule, our very lives like knuckles, said about in the sonic movie, he know's way 2 much that knuckle head.
Awesome score: 150,495,892 points.
earphones users, earfuck ahead
+IceCream Yep that's the joy of emulators.
Lava Powerhouse is where my adventure would stop
It seems like that I'm not the only one who never clear the 2nd stage. It still remains as hardest game to me.
Que difícil que era este juego sólo hasta el 3ra fase logré pasar
Anyone notice that the music in the Showdown level sounds similar to the boss music? It may have been intentional.
Nice vid! Weird you went the long way around in Machine (at 17:01) to get to the Left-side shaft instead of just jumping over (you go to the right shaft, through the Animal Prison, and back to the left haha)
Either way, keep it up! :)

7:31 On everything I always thought the cannon was Garfield.
well done you got the Emeralds on this Pinball and you beat off the High Score way too go Amy.
Well, the Emeralds are required to progress through the levels...
This game made me rage so much back in the day. The final level constantly tossed Sonic straight down the middle between flippers or some shit. Could get a perfect game all up until then, and lose game over the end.
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I don't think many people know this, but you can slightly influence Sonic's trajectory by holding left or right on the D-Pad
it's amazing what your brain can forget. when i was a kid i got to the last level, but never beat it... i remember NOTHING about stage 3 at all. 1 and two are like a second nature to me though.
