Sonic the Hedgehog Spinball - Sega Genesis - No Commentary Longplay

- Sonic Spinball is a fun, if inaccurate pinball ball where our favorite blue hedgehog is the ball. I say inaccuaret because the physics just feel strange most of the time. At first I thought it's because you can control Sonic a bit while shooting him around, but when I got to the mini games I see even in that strange perspective they were able to get pinball physics feeling right, so I don't know why they did it the way they did.
Still, it's a fun game, certainly worth a weekend rental here and there, which is how I played it as a kid.
sonic spinball. the game that everyone played just 30 minutes, but remembered the music for 25 years.
That first stage music is forever etched into my brain
For me, it's like 11 years ago when I played this game.
@@3mmik0did anyone see that final boss 😳
Its because the music is the only good thing on it
Yes! This comment EXACTLY! The music from the Sonic games were always so memorable and I would always find myself humming the music from the first two levels all throughout my life lol.
I would never have the patience to play this game from start to finish. I'm glad someone did though :p
Happy 30th Anniversary to the classic Sonic game from the 90s. Also to Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and the Satam series, too. Great vid play-through.
Holy crap. I don't know why but this game was always a challenge for me lol. Surreal to see it again.
Played this on GameCube as a kid and never made it past stage 2. You’re not wrong!
Edit: *GameBoy Advance
I second that. I played it when I was 8.
Yea he got farther his first tries then me for months😩
This game was not easy to play. It made no sense, and each stage was too big, had many Chaos Emeralds to find and getting to each Boss was a nightmare.

This was our first Genesis game. It took us a while to beat it. We got to know this game intimately.
lmao is this a bot or troll? Most people couldn't get past level 2, barely anyone actually beat it, and it was extremely hard to even "know" beyond level 1.
It took me forever to beat this when I was 6-7 years old. Love seeing it again
Right now im doing a sonic marathon. Watching gameplays of sonic games I've never played or heard of before since i was born on Christmas of 1995. This is a game i definitely wouldn't have played as i have no patience so I'll just enjoy watching you play.
The Last stage is barely unplayable. It's almost impossible to hit the proper spots.
This game scared the crap out of me as a kid idk why, but now as an adult it was the anxiety.
Creepy level design dark atmosphere maybe?
The bosses are creepy, The Roboiler is haunting
the scorpion screams
Disturbing sfx
You probably didn't last long fighting Giygas in Earthbound then.
Can talk about the ending for a moment? They just dropped him SCREAMING into his own burning and collapsing tower! This game got DARK for a Sonic spin-off.
I'm pretty sure there are quite a few sonic games that get dark. Even the mainline games.
Most likely because it was loosely connected to the SatAM cartoon.
I used to LOVE playing this game when I was a kid. I would spend hours learning all the different light up bonuses and tricks on every level to figure out the best strategy. So much fun.
Imagine this game had a time limit like the other games.
SEGA would become evil if they had that in the game😂😂😂
I don't know about a time limit, but the game did give you a score for beating the level in ten minutes or less.
I dont know how in the hell I managed to beat this when I was 13 years old, I think maybe you had unlimited lives or something? I just remember putting in a 12 hour marathon session and getting it done.
This was actually the first time I ever beat beat it, I never got very far as a kid.
I remember beating this game before I became a teenager. if was tricky but a childhood memory I would never replace.
@@RetroGameStreamhowwwwwwwwwwww? 𝖎 feel like SpongeBob who had no water.
Wow I completely forgot about this game. Now that I'm seeing it again I remember everything about it, even the environment I played it in. Haven't played this since around 95, I was like 5 back when I played it when it came out lol. Love how these games I used to play bring me so many good memories too. I thank my brothers for introducing me to videogames, because of them I became proud gamer. So glad I grew up in this era of videogames 90's - early 2000's, the best era if you ask me.
6:09 and somehow, in this game from 1993, you see the Xbox logo at the end of the tube sonic spins through
Bro fr
Wait until you find out Jesus was killed on a tilted Xbox logo
@@circeciernova1712 oh you just found out? Catch up bro.
I literally got an xbox ad when i clicked the timestamp
@@samiulalam5256megadrive classics was out on 360, prob played on that
This game is so freaking awesome from the graphics to the music it is such a fun and amazing game!!!
This is just unlocking some core memories for me. This and a few days ago watching a video on "Wonder Boy In Monster land" on Sega! Man..... Such good memories of these games!
This game just has such charm lmao I can see why I played this game the most as a kid. I particularly love expressive the sprites are, and the score text appearing so excited all the time lol
My dad was obsessed with this game because he loves pinball games. I could never beat it when I was young at the time. I always loved the music in Sonic games, but the soundtrack in Spinball always stuck with me.
Maybe I should bust out the old Genesis and finally beat it lol.
Having tried to play the game myself It’s so nice to watch someone else master this game
I used to play the hell out of this game. Two things I loved in one. Pinball and Sonic.
Played quite a bit of this when I was 6 cause I thought it was so cool, but god it's frustrating. Don't need to explain why.
Was awesome watching this video, it's been 26 years and I never forgot the game or the reasons I couldn't get to the level 2 boss, but this video confirms and clarifies it. This game is so god damn memorable that I even remember thinking the EXACT same things that the video's entire description says back then lmfao
I loved this game so much as a kid. It has a dark gloomy vibe to it. The mechanics, the music, the atmosphere...
Wait there’s more to this game then the first level?
I know, right
yup
There's bonus levels too. Collect every ring on a stage and then sparkly portals appear. Enter the portal to start a multiball bonus stage. (Kinda like the bonus stages after each level, but it's a multiball boss fight)
8:07 in the bonus stage, they have references to Bonnie, Sally, and Boomer/Rotor. And since this is an official SEGA game, that means the freedom fighters are canon!
Listen... I love the comics... and this game... but spinball isn't canon.
@@GoodfellaZeta4873 yeah, I know. Though I wish it was.
I heard they're actually fighting to bring back the Freedom Fighters into the IDWverse. Iunno how that'll work, but I hope it does somehow.
@@GoodfellaZeta4873 Ian Flynn says it is now. Apparently the Japanese manual claimed that Mobius was a separate planet from Earth and Sonic visited there. It could plausibly work.
5:09 Nice unexpected exploit there
Your angle of approach must be perfect to pull it off. I've done it on accident like twice.
They really took full advantage of the Mega Drives capabilities, i'm still fascinated with this game, so 90s so awesome
I remember playing this as a kid having no idea wtf was going on 😂 for sure I never beat the game. Listening now, the soundtrack was great.
This was my first genesis game. I only got to level 2 tho.
All the sound effects and music come rushing back to memory, even after 25 years!
the only sonic game on sega I have not been abbe to finish, at least finally saw how the last level looks like.
Im pretty sure nobody at sega had tested this game before releasing.
This not only was my first Sonic game, but my first Genesis game in general as it came with my system.
I don't even know how many hours I spent playing this game, grooving to the great soundtrack 💚
I loved this game as a kid. I don’t remember ever beating it. The soundtrack is an elite core memory
This game is so fun in my opinion great vid
Switch online came out with sega games and saw this treasure. How this game had the biggest chokehold on me 😂😂😂 I played a game and had to force myself to stop otherwise I’ll be there all day
I don't think I've ever related to Sonic quite like this. Basically how it feels to work a job (getting bounced left, right, up, down, and diagonally constantly), and Sonic's expressions when he slides out of control really sell it. Except there isn't as much HR Geiger style horrors (there's more).
Also the scariest Robotnik has ever been.
Today's video games have nothing on this 🔥
This game was so freaking hard. I remember being brought to tears when I was a kid 😭😭😂
I obsessed over this game as a kid.
The most impossible Sonic game you have ever played
Absolutely 💯 💯💯💯💯💯💯
Ahhh Sonic Spinball. My first rage quit. Lol
😂😂😂😂😂
Respekt to you. This is one really hard game. It is the first sonic game that i never completed.
I was never able to get past the lava themed level so I never beat this game once I was good at pinball but never good enough to beat it ever yet alone multiple times my hats off to u for showing me what happens when u actually beat robotnik and this game
i remember having all sorts of crazy dreams and nightmares as a kid after playing this game. i stil lremember some of them too to this game. still a fun game though.
This game needs a remake so bad.
Needs the triple trouble 16-bit treatment
This should have been dlc with origins (along with 3d blast Saturn/genesis and knuckles chaotix)
The hell it does lol 😆 😂 🤣 this game almost ruined my childhood
No dude!!🤦
@pastaboy5639 that version is just the 16 bit one but it looks like ass to accommodate for a smaller screen
I loved this game as a kid... I dont know what everyone else is talking about. I was probably 11 or 12 when it came out and I played it a lot
Sonic Spinball is the most underrated in the sonic series
I love the designs of the robot dragon and "worm" enemies on the first board
I played this years ago and I still love it!
So thats where the Hornet van sound in studiopolis came from
ahh i remember this sonic game, it was a pain in the butt back in the day cuz i was confused on what you were suppose to do compared to the other sonic games lol. Rented it like once and was like nah i aint touching that again lol
0:10 I’m setting this as my ringtone
Dang this is some serious childhood nostalgia
For a 224p game to be perfectly scaled to 1080p without interpolation this had to be emulated. Also Genesis games use a 10:7 aspect ratio not 4:3.
Yeah I definitely don't have the money to mod my consoles and set up all the RGB stuff to capture clean footage. I don't think I claimed I was using a real genesis. The closest I can get on my budget is the Mega Retron HD, which does look good, but you'd notice graphic and audio inconsistencies and people who dislike emulation won't like that either soooo yeah still using emulation for now. Maybe someday!
On aspect ratio, that's always a little tricky. Some developers made their games knowing they would be stretch to 4:3 on tvs and end up looking squished at the natural 10:7. This is an example of that. The rings, balled up Sonic and other circular objects look more or less round when stretched so I decided to stretch it for this one.
@@RetroGameStream Holy cow you this much. I never even heard of the Mega Retron Genesis. From what I've seen in RetroRGB's comparison of original+OSSC vs Supa SNES (which I believe is the same) the Supa didn't look so great>
ruclips.net/video/AvxMV0WBrts/видео.html
@@RetroGameStream Oh yeah, if you ever decide to get an original console with RGB Scart, HD Retrovision Component Cable, or even the new RAD2x, use nearest neighbor to integer 224p to the closest thing to the resolution you desire and use Bilinear or Bicubic for the rest. For 1080p I would 5x to 1120 and downscale to 1080p, or for 5K-13x to 2912 and downscale to 2880p.
Best Sonic game ever made. Top 5 ever for Sega.
I actually beat this at like 11 or 12. Patience………
I remembered when i first beat this game it took me a minute and it was fun playing this game this the only sonic game i love to play
Anyone else notice that both the spaceship and Robotnik himself glowed in sync with the volcano when it was erupting?
Got to give Eggman credit, his operation was pretty clean: geothermal power, a sewer to isolate the waste...too bad he uses his talents for evil though 😂
Gosh, I remember playing this on the PS3 Sega Genesis Collection when I was 7. It was 2013 and I lived in Vegas back then. Sure, I was definitely in the newer generation of players to play this game, but boy the time still does fly like crazy. I’ve got divorced parents now, my PS3 is in storage, and I’m about to graduate high school. Man, I seriously miss being younger
"Something tells me I'm not gonna like this game." - Sonic, Sonic SatAM "Game Guy"
this is my favorite sega genesis game. i was good at it
This game along with Vectorman scared me as a little kid
Sonic Spinball. I really liked this game, but I remember not getting very far just for being so difficult for me. I remember the music was really good though!
I love how Robotnik literally dies at the end in this one lol.
I never could finish this!! I got to the machine level and could never get passed that.
Wow that's nostalgic I remember playing this
Damn this is a huge nostalgia hit
I swear this game was a lucid dream i had
The sheer amount of pain this game used to inflict… Should’ve been rated M for torture.
My favorite Sonic!
I still find showdown so challenging. I can end up the with 6 (or 7 if really lucky) balls and lose within ten minutes. 🤬
The Photo In The Below Of Description Is Kind Of New, It Will Change To Normal Tomorrow
I love me some Sonic.
The first level’s music always stuck out to me because it sounds JUST like the song People are People by Depeche Mode
the fuckin game that gets your heart RACING from almost falling in the water/sewage
This was the only sonic game I could beat as a kid always got to the end but couldn’t finish
Sonic and Knuckles + This game were the first sega games I played as a kid I think
I remember playing this a lot of fun, never beat it and also for some reason it was attached to some dolphin game called Ecco or something that I also didn't beat
This was such a Bizarre concept for a video game. I remember hearing that this is actually Archy Sonic, and not Sega sonic.
This game was one big test of patience when I played it.
In the first level, there’s a way to get the other two emeralds with only one bridge up.
I loved this game. Could never get past level 4, it was difficult to “map out”
i think this is the closest we got to having the archie/satam characters in a sonic video game
Jesus! People actually make it PAST lava powerhouse!? Like, without savestates!? That's crazy, man!
23:24 I love that sound.
Idk why but I always loved the intro
Lava Powerhouse (8:39-21:52) was frustrating for me. I would manage to collect one Chaos Emerald, but then everything would fall apart. The level features fantastic music, though.
Those damn clucks always blocking the good shots!
I had never passed the first level 😅
@Cumback same 😂
It was the only level I ever could pass 😄😄😄
Glad im not the one one 😊
I couldn't b this game at all in the 90s
Well, I still don't understand anything. Great playing though. :D
So literally there is no strategy.
Have you played FF16 now that's truly a game that requires no strategy.
I'm aware that some emeralds occur in blue but they could have at least made them green... I know they had the capability to...
I got this game on PS2 Sonic mega collection plus this game is a challenge for me
The machine x-rays 32:48 sonic level Completed
Man, how can you make Sonic go into the right direction? In the last stage, it's almost impossible to make it hit the right places.
You could say sonic spinball is the sonic satam game due to the other freedom fighters appearing in the mini games.
I love sonic spin ball but I don’t have it
Sonic's 'tude in this is outta control.
Nostalgic ✨ was a very challenging game...
