Evolution of the "Bunny Fart" Load in 300 AAC Blackout (quiet lightweight subs)

  • Today, we take a stroll through the mind of Taco to explore light-weight subsonic ammo in the 300 AAC Blackout (why you'd ever want to buy a break action rifle or pistol, and the reasons why Taco seems to shoot so many rounds through his 300 blk firearms...) We also go through the design of the NOE HTC310-135-RN bullet mould, why it was created and where it came from.

    I have been looking for one of these for over a year in a 5 cavity and noticed that most models and types of this 135 30 cal mold were always out of stock and there was never any on the group buys. So I just kept checking back. Today However as I was looking it popped up on the bottom of the page "similar items" and it showed 8pcs of the 4 Cavity molds of the HTC310-135-RN-BY3 PB ! So I finally got one coming! I must be blind because its been near the top of the page when looking at the mold page. I had already purchased a 220 Gr Subsonic 300 BLK last time and didn't see any 135gr PB Molds available then as well. I guess I was looking at the bottom of the page showing the larger 5 cav and brass molds. It showed like 6 or 8 different molds of HTC310-135-RN out of stock, that kept throwing me. I didn't want a 2 or 3 cavity or brass so I just kept waiting. I will try to scour the mold page better from now on and look for the "Similar Items" as well. I hope I am the only one, because I really searched every time I went there the last year or so. I'm just glad I have a new 4 cav 135 plain base finally on its way! Thanks for the great videos you have done over the years and yourself and Al's work on designing these molds. Now if I could just find a contender or encore! 😅🤣

      Not a lawyer or home defense expert, but generally speaking you don't want to use your own reloads for self defense. However, if I couldn't buy any self defense rounds, I would probably go with a lighter bullet like this one (but with a gas check) and use that.

    I bought a 16" 300BLK just to shoot suppressed subs because of videos like these but when I got it I was surprised how loud it still was with 208gr Hornday subs. Not that you needed hearing protection at all but far from a near silent bunny fart. Is the sound in the videos so deceiving or are these loads much quieter than all of the factory subs out htere?

    • @FullLeadTaco
      @FullLeadTaco  9 месяцев назад

      These loads are really quiet when suppressed. All the powder is burned in the first part of the barrel using trailboss powder unlike the magnum pistol powders that are used in factory loads. Factory loads have to have enough port pressure at the gas port to cycle the action of a semi-auto which tends to make them a bit noisy(er).

    Good video. I may have to check out that NOE mold. But I've got a bunch of the 155gr Lee I need to use up. What do you think about shooting a gas check bullet that is powder coated without the gas check? Is it basically a waste of time? Ad conversly, would you shoot a gas check thru a suspressor? I have some I powder coated after I gas checked them. I created a bunch before I got my supressor.

    • @FullLeadTaco
      @FullLeadTaco  4 года назад +1

      I shoot plenty of bullets that are gas checked and powder coated over the top through my suppressors. As far as the plain base vs gas check, if the bullets have a gas check shank, I pretty much put gas checks on them for accuracy purposes, or use a plain base.

      @@PB8man yeah, just look at the steel target manufacturers' recommended distances. They usually recommend 10-12 yards for pistols and 100 yards for rifles.
