I have cut out several with scissors (the hard way). I never thought of using a box cutter! This will make it so much easier. I might also have my print shop print for me to avoid taping.
Great video! Very clear, fully demonstrated, realistic annoying cat. Thank you!
This gives me a better understanding of how to do the set up and selecting the size you want to print. Thank you.
Thank you, Beth. Ewe Fibers in Charlottesville VA had their print shop run off a few Lou Box Top patterns for a class. After making my second LBT at home, I wanted to try adding sleeves, and “just run off the LBT Sleeve Expansion” pattern at home. Huh.
It is an acquired skill-downloading the pattern, FINDING the download, printing it properly, laying it out and taping it up...best done with your tutorial on the desktop on a snowy day.
Thanks again.
This is great! I have two pdf patterns that I’ve been to scared to cut!! Thank you so much for the great instruction! ❤️
I'm so glad that it was helpful!! :)
Thank you so much for this tutorial! It definitely helps make using a pdf pattern for the first time far less intimidating.

I have cut so many, but you have given me some great tips and hints! I am off to buy a blade! 👍❤️
I'm happy to help! I hope that the tips work for you! Good luck with the blade and be careful. :)
Good video...fantastic!!! Where I can get the pattern to be downloaded?
You can find pdf patterns in my shop. Link in description.
Thank you for this! I noticed that you are using Acrobat Pro DC version. It looks like that version costs money. Am I right? Or am I missing something? Thank you!
Hi Janet! Good eye! You can also use Adobe Reader which is a free program. My default is Acrobat but I've also tested this process in Reader and it looks and functions the same way.

The pattern I bought shows all as one giant page and says scale to your liking, so there are no boundaries or registration marks on the edges. I'm scared about trying to print and fit the pages together because I don't know how I'll tell where the white margins begin.
Hmm that does sound confusing. I'd check with the pattern manufacturer/designer for tips.
The vertical and horizontal lines never match up when I do it!!!
Hi I'm sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Is your printer printing accurately and straight? I've had printers that printed the image warped or crooked because it wasn't feeding the paper straight thru. Maybe try measuring the outer box on a few pages to see if it's all the same (it should be the same). With my patterns, each page should print a box that is 7"x10" with the pattern inside.
Im obv a beginner...what are the notches for?
Hi! Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Pattern notches are used to help you line up two pieces of fabric at certain points. They're basically guidelines to help make sure things are going to go together as intended.
What if the square is not the 1 Inch no matter how you set your printer?
In the print dialog box, you should be able to adjust the scale to make it work. You can type in any percentage you need. For example, if the test square is 1.25" instead of 1", you'll want to print at a scale of 80%. To do the math, think of X as your new scale percentage. X will adjust our current size to our desired size.
Our formula would be X*1.25=1. Then X=1/1.25=.8=80%. In this case you need the print out to be smaller, so printing at 80% scale will do that.
If your test square is .75" but you want it to be 1", our math is:
X*.75=1. Then X=1/.75=1.33=133%. In this case your test was too small, and the 133% will make it bigger, to equal 1".
I hope that helps! I also recommend using Adobe Reader to print pdfs. It's designed to handle pdfs. I've never actually had to scale a pattern differently but this should work with a little math. :)
