  • In today's video, I show how to finish a neckline or armhole using bias tape to create a facing that is flat and won't peek out on the right side of the garment. Bias facing can be used to finish the raw edge a neckline, armhole or even a hem. Let me know in the comments if there are any other sewing techniques that you’d like to learn.

Thank you for this video, so helpful! One small suggestion - maybe use fabric and bias tape with more color contrast, this'll make it easier for the viewer to see what you're doing. I love the Lou Box Top, it's TNT for me. :)

Do you have a video of making your own bias tape ? #4 of the pattern is to make your own correct ? I like how matching bias tape looks. Love this video but not sure if it’s really a bit dark or just me

Not yet. I use a rotary cutter and ruler to cut mine. It's faster and more accurate than scissors.

This is very useful! Thanks so much for this tutorial. Can I ask - what size/width bias tape do you use, I also get confused between single and double sided tape.

I prefer to cut my bias tape 1.75 inches wide and then fold it in half with the two long raw edges together. All the raw edges are along the seamline and the folded edge is the part that gets topstitched or handstitched down. I hope that makes sense! :)

Thank you for this easy to follow step by step tutorial! I've always done bias facings this way but your method of using the pulled out pin to guide the fabric and having the fashion fabric side on top was not something I've tried! I was also curious about the fabric of your bias tape? Is it cotton? Poly? Silk like the fashion fabric?

Hi Kathleen! I'm so glad that this was helpful. I'm actually not sure 100% what the fiber content is of the fabric I used for the bias tape. It's likely a rayon or rayon blend. It has a lot more drape than a cotton usually does and is soft to the touch but I don't think it's silk. It's kind of like a medium weight silk in drape though. It's a little easier to handle than the silk fashion fabric.
