Thank you. I couldn't figure it out! I've flown my drone many times using my phone, but just got a tablet for the bigger screen and it wouldn't connect. The phone would connect every time, but not the tablet.
Then I found your video. Except you can't switch the USB tethering switch unless the wifi is turned off. After that was done, it connected several times over!! Thanks!!

My problem was a loose connector in the controller. The electrical strap between the main board and the HDMI board of my Phantom 4 Pro was not staying tight on the main board (even with the connector lock in place). I very carefully super glued a small piece of paper to the back plastic side of the connector strap, its just still thin enough to still insert the connector into the receiver on the board but now thick enough to connect properly. App fired right up. The connectors on the board do have lifting lock bars that are black, make sure you lock and unlock as you remove/insert any connectors. This became a problem originally after one opening of the RC for an unrelated repair.

Hey thanks. While your solution wasn't exactly for me, I simply had to turn off developer options where the usb-mtp option is on my Samsung j7 to get DJI Go 4 to connect again. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction

This didn't work for me because the USB option just stayed grayed out no matter what I tried, but it led me down the path that eventually helped. I was getting ready to do a full-on phone reset back to manufacturer settings to see if that would work but noticed the "network settings reset" option right above it and tried that. It worked! I'm not sure how exactly since my network settings never got touched but after the reset instead of my phone telling me every 3 seconds that it was charging, it instead connected to the RC controller. Fortunately I had another phone available that had already ruled out any problems with the controller itself. I still don't have any idea what caused this problem to come out of nowhere like it did and I wasted a few hours trying to fix it, and the fix didn't seem to have anything to do with the symptom.

Solution: The problems is that smart phones are getting dumber. Plug everything in and turn everything on. You have to find your USB menu on your phone and tell it to use the USB for more than just charging. Solved.

My usb tethering stays grayed out I can't get it to come off, i have a samsung s9?

You can't have USB tethering and wifi on at the same time. Shut off the wifi and you'll be able to turn on USB tethering.

@Flourish Ledits i had to go into developer options, go into usb debugging, then have that on and ready .. now it connects without me having to reset it every time.

I turned my wifi off but the usb tethering still stays greyed out as not an option to select. I have tried with my Samsung galaxy 6s and my Samsung A30. Cable is fine because usb tethering automatically becomes an option when connected to laptop, but not so with drone..any suggestions? Thanks.

@Flourish Ledits i ended up sending it off to be looked at. They said the control board in the remote was dead and needed replacing.😕
