You should try Juici or SugarBee apples those are the best. They are pricey but well worth the price. I can find them easily enough here in Washington not sure if you can find the SugarBee's anywhere else.
Most farmers' markets are closed now b/c of the pandemic. Also, grocery stores are now packaging items that didn't used to be packaged to keep multiple people from touching them. Don't apologize. These are different times and people need to just accept that for the time being. Thanks for sharing.
Which is ridiculous if you think about it, because the transmission risk is actually much lower outdoors. Our farmers market was closed from March to November, it finally reopened and is no “no touch”. You point at what you want or tell the seller, and they hand it to you in exchange for your money or card. There’s also a limit on how many people can be in the (outdoor) market at once, but as it’s winter, people just get what they want and leave so there hasn’t been any crowds yet.
Exactly. I was thinking the same :-) We can only do our best and recycle what we can. Some of our supermarkets in Europe are wrapping things individually that were never wrapped before, too.
Agree!! I have only been doing online orders/grocery pick up -so that means I get SO many plastic bags😭😭😭😭. Before pandemic I used reusable bags. I just had to let that guilt go! Right now I can’t help it. I WISH they would just put the items from their bins to my trunk-no bags needed!!-but I just appreciate being able to order and pick up during these times.
Instead of harassing Jessica about buying things in plastic how about we all email ALDI and tell them we’d like more plastic free options. They’re the ones wrapping everything in plastic after all. The onions are probably just sweet onions, walla walla onions are sweet and they never make you cry. Also, cosmic crisp is a new variety recently developed for commercial use. That’s probably why you haven’t seen it before. How do I know all this ish about onions and apples...I’m from Washington
Jessica - I am totally interested in seeing your spice storage overhaul. I have so many herbs and spices and struggling with finding storage solutions.
I keep mine in a wire-framed canvas box/basket intended for paper files or magazines. It fits on my kitchen cabinet shelf (Mostly. Door is slightly ajar.) I do have to prowl through it for a less-often-used seasoning, but the common ones are on top. I bought this container years ago at Home Depot, but I'm sure they are everywhere. I like it better than a woven basket because the solid bottom makes it easier to clean and keeps my shelf from having bits of seasoning everywhere.
@@hollywebster6844 Thanks for that! I can’t picture what your describing, but it sounds like it would work. I’ve been looking on Pinterest for ideas and there are great ones there. Space is an issue and I’ve been dealing with the hassle of needing to spend 5 minutes emptying the shelf each time I cook to find all the needed herbs and spices for years. But since going vegan (WFPB is proving to be harder for me, but I’m getting there) I have increased the amount of spices I stock.
I’m always blown away with how much food you can purchase at Aldi vs other stores. Looking at what you spent at TJs vs Aldi for nearly the the same amount of money you came out way ahead at Aldi. 🙂 Not counting the whole plastic packaging thing...
I love your hair! You’re one of the few people who can wear their hair pulled back with no make-up and still look fabulous. This style really suits you Jessica.
I love Aldi, TJ’s and Whole Foods. I hit up Aldi every week, along with a Chicago area chain called Pete’s Fresh Market, right next door to Aldi. TJ’s, Whole Foods and Costco, I go to less often, but stock up on the things I like from those stores. Being in the Chicago suburbs, I have a plethora of great grocery stores to choose from.
Here's a great reuse project for tissue boxes, it is to use the colorful cardboard sides and ends and turn them into various sized notebooks, often times there's lots of paper that only has 1/2 writing on it or the backs are perfectly clean, so we use scrap paper. We made a few tiny doll books for the kids. :)
I just learned recently with cooking cruciferous veggies, if you grind bay leaves with it..no gas. I've been trying this recently...oh I hope I hope I hope this works!!🤞
Cosmic Crisp apples are a new variety, been on the market about one year. They are a cross between Honey Crisp and Enterprise. They were in development for twenty years at Washington State University.
That’s really interesting, thank you! I have been of the opinion that honey crisp apples are manna from heaven and it’s hard to imagine there might be a tastier apple out there so I’m going to HAVE to try a cosmic crisp!
Jessica, I like your hair pulled back! No Aldi's, TJ or WF where I am BUT I have a Winco 70+ miles away. I try to shop there 1-2 times per month. I love the bulk section!
I feel your pain. TJ's Whole Foods & Meijer are all 35+ miles from me, so I'm limited to Aldi's, Walmart Neighborhood Market & Kroger. Once every few months I'll go into the city for Trader Joe's (mainly because I'm addicted to their '21 Seasoning Salute' sprinkle.)

Jessica I would love to see your spice storage over haul. I hate plastic and would love to get rid of all my spices in plastic. Don't worry about the plastic from the store, right now. I love WholeFoods 💖 Also loved the planner! Thank you!
Our Aldi (in Germany) is getting better and better in reducing the packaging. Many things in the fresh produce section are now without plastic at all. I hope Aldi in the US will follow :)
i love watching you guys i dont have the stores in my country im from the netherlands but i watch these grocery hauls anyways because i like them ,i hope my englisch isn't to bad hahaha
I enjoy all the stores you shared. I generally go to Kroger and Aldi and Costco. Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods is a bit of a drive. I enjoyed this first haul! Thank you Jessica and Brian.
Wow great haul for the costs! Im a vegan Canadian retired in Panama for 6years now. I live in a small town with 2 main grocery stores that dont carry alot of American products. Mainly canned goods which I dont buy processed boxed or canned or bagged if I can help it. I buy bulk beans and cook in my instapot. I only have two kinds of lettuce...boring. We dont get any fancy greens at all. Im blessed that we have lots of farmers selling their fresh produce. I make it work. Thanks for the video. I just made one of your soups yesterday for the week.
Jessica, your hair looks great in the ponytail - you should do it like that more often. Loved seeing your grocery haul and liked that you explain what you will do with some of the items. Interested to know what you do with the cashews?
Very jealous of the bagged salad greens. That was fun. Thank you. And it is great to imagine you nourishing yourselves with all that beautiful high nutrient density food!
You guys are awesome. Keep up the great work with the videos, love to watch them - as you are sincere, genuine people- and that’s very refreshing to see that on RUclips! Good luck to you in 2021!
In Portugal, we mainly shop at Lidl, then Aldi (vegan wine for mum, husband and I are teetotal) frozen bio spinach and broccoli and great soya yoghurts. Then onto Auchan for fresh tofu.
Hey Jessica, would love to see a Farmer’s Market haul sometime in the future. You can save a lot of money on fresh produce buying directly from the farmer/certified farm vendors
You guys could lift those bags for a Quasi Strength Training!!!! This Haul is Jessica's Jam....Your Hair looks so so so nice up you look so much younger!!!!!
I primarily shop at Sprouts. We do have a Whole Foods as well as a Trader Joes (I don't go there). After your comments on how cheap Cashews are at Trader Joes I will be checking it out.
@Jessica Wal-Mart has no salt added beans for .50. I shop Wal-Mart because it's the only local grocery. But Aldi is an hour away so I go to stock up once a month. Trader Joe's us 2 hours away so I go there about every other month.
I am a big fan of Trader Joe's and there is one close by. I have been to Aldi's a few times, and it is also close by. A new Whole Foods opened up about 20 minutes away. Haven't made it there yet. During the pandemic, I limit my grocery shopping to 1 day a week, 1 store. We have Sprouts, which is my favorite store. It is like a combination of TJoes and Aldis.
I have a Whole Foods and Trader Joe's about 40 minutes away from here so I don't go often. Nearby I have Aldi, Kroger, HEB, Walmart and Target. Generally, I can find most everything I need at those places and I save Trader Joe's and Whole foods for about once every 4 to 6 months. 👍
What a coincidence I just made the broccoli casserole tonight for dinner with frozen broccoli from trader Joe's. The recipe is great you guys are going to love it
Regarding the amount you spend on groceries, about 8 mos ago we opened a separate checking account. We use just this account only for two budget line items:for groceries and eating out. I deposit $800 month into it. Now I know how much I spend on all eating, cleaning and personal care.
It all looked delicious! Unfortunately, we don't have Whole Foods in our city, because a local company that sells organic has a monopoly around here. So we shop at Sprouts and Trader Joe's. 🙂 Great deals you got! Thanks, Jessica!
Have lately enjoyed steel cut oats with sautéed bananas and blueberries. Pinch of cinnamon, maybe a teaspoon of maple syrup at the end (for my taste, I know not everyone uses this), and a handful of TJ’s chopped walnuts.
Love the grocery haul! I always enjoy seeing what other people buy...weird but true. I usually shop at Walmart because its convenient to us but we are buying a house which has an Aldi near by so I plan to shop Aldi more often now.
The lens makes those bags look enormous!! Or like you two have been hit with a shrink ray. If it were me, I’d dice up a few of those mushrooms, sautéed them a bit, and add them to the mushroom gravy. My favorite store is Costco or “Smart and Final”. We don’t have many of the usual grocery chains in our area :(
I live in Northern Virginia and we have Aldi, Trader Joe’s, And Whole Foods. Whole Foods in our area is very high. We have Costco as well which is a big box store which sells in bulk..they have a nice variety of organic products - produce - fruit . The produce and fruits are very fresh. Much less expensive than Whole Foods..I’m a fan of Trader Joe’s as well! We also have Wegmans which has a great organic selection but pricey, as well.
I am in the middle of my healthy food reset. I'm being really healthy on myself for 4 days. And it's been really hard still being in a house filled with twizzlers, Hawaiian pizza, and instant noodles. The smell of them alone. It's really hard.
Cosmic Crisp apples ARE AMAZING. They are a new variety. Also. The garlic yiu got ag Aldi’s is from China. Most likey grown with sewage and is bleached to make it super white. One way to tell besides reading the origin, is the super white bleached color and the hairy end has been removed. Buy organic from the USA. Not much more expensive.
Hi Jessica. I like the grocery hair style. 👍I loved watching the grocery haul. Watching this is making me want to go through my kitchen and do some meal prepping.
I love Aldi’s also! I love your sweatshirt Jessica. We took a trip out to Glacier National Park back in 2012 and dream of going back someday. We saw Yellowstone also on that trip and loved being able to get close to the wildlife but it was so crowded with people. Liked Glacier better and the Flathead Lake region.
I enjoyed this post so much I watched twice just to feel like I was shopping because I can get out only about every ten days. Cabin fever is Real!!! Also it’s nice to hear your reasoning behind your choices and how you will use items. Thanks to you mentioning the canned beans at Whole Foods, I picked up 4 cans . My plan was to make a easy and quick multibean soup but you may mention some uses I had not thought of. Also, like how you point out the products from Aldi. Have not been there in years but am planning a jaunt to try some of the items you like. By the way, that planner is pretty. Let us know if you like it. You folks are doing more than just sharing about diet, it is like having friends come and visit when we can’t actually have many friends come and visit.😋 So come more often. Even when you share you struggles it helps because then our struggles seem more normal.
Oh my gosh cosmic crisp apples are amazing, but I normally don’t get a bunch because they are more expensive. I don’t like shopping produce at TJ’s because of all the plastic.
Around $149 is about what we spend on groceries per week...ish. Depends on the week and, as you know, some foods stretch further than others. I think you got more food than we often do for $149!
we just got back from costco and sam's club but other weeks we go to trader joe's and whole foods (which are in the opposite direction) and we have an aldi just three blocks up the road from where we live so if we need anything in the two weeks when we don't go out we can run there. costco we get bulk frozen veggies and fruit (i'm on a dragon fruit kick) as well as some fresh produce and roasted seaweed sheets (yummy), bulk rice and other things. sam's club, i get ''fresh salsa'' and TP. whole foods is to fill up my 5gallon jugs of water, fresh produce and sodium free Ez4:9 bread as well as lavva yogurt and other assorted things. trader joe's is for frozen veggies we can't get in bulk at costco as well as sesame Ez4:9 bread (wfm has that too but depends on which store we stop at first as they're like three blocks away from each other) and kombucha as well as some vegan prepared frozen dinners that i use as a flavor base for a bunch of other veggies and rice to stretch the salt between my husband and me.
My favorite stores to shop at are all three of those stores plus Sprouts and WinCo. I live in the Texas Panhandle and none of these stores are near me. I have to drive 2 hours for a Sprouts and 4 hours for all the rest. I only get to shop at these stores when visiting family which has been over a year now.
More grocery hauls in future would be great. I shop at several stores as well. I am surprised that you never mention shopping at Walmart. I think you would find a lot of things you like in frozen fruits and vegetables, dry beans, produce and almond milk.
We're on lockdown here and can go out to get food but much prefer to get our order delivered as we dont want to die yet. Aldi is our favourite for food but the worst for covid safety. It's very bad where we are in Kent. Keep safe everyone.
I don't worry about the plastic. I recycle all of that. It's a fact. Sometimes you have more plastic and waste than other times. It's unfortunate the way it is. But if you can recycle it. There is no need to best yourself up. We are all doing the best we can with what we got.😊
Hon you do not look like a psycho! Thanks for sharing. I like seeing what your shops have vs what we have locally here in Oz I'm sorry people are banging on with you about packaging. You can recycle it in the best way possible. Right now with the pandemic it's most important you look after yourself. Your budget and your family. That might mean buying stuff packaged up.
I miss Aldi as we're originally from IL ~ I wish we had one here in WA State. We unfortunately do not have a Trader Joe's (closest is about 140 miles) or Whole Foods (200 miles). So, our favorite local stores are Costco, Fred Meyer (Kroger owned), Walmart (organic heads of cauliflower for just $2.76 - organic scallions 99 cents, etc. Mr Dell's hash browns - ingredients: potatoes!) and we order a LOT from Azure Standard . com - we've ordered from them for years. Their trucks run routes, so there's no shipping charges. Debbie in WA Ü
Great video! Have you ever thought of learning to can? I have recently learned to do this and it saves so much money when I'm canning beans. I can also add my own ingredients.
We are in Canada, we shop a lot at Costco and smaller local stores. We spend approximately $800/ month Canadian for groceries for our family of three. Your grocery hall would cost us well over $200 where I live. Those are great prices!
I add pomagranite seeds to my quinoa that I have for breakfast every morning. Right now the produce deparments are required to use more plastics to protect the fruits and vegetables from germs. We pretty much only shop at Kroger. That's the only store within 30 minutes drive of us.
Interesting, quinoa for breakfast. Do you make it savory or sweet? Do you add plant milk to it? Would like to know as I have some in the pantry and never thought about using it for breakfast.
@@carmenwheatley7316 I have it almost every morning for breakfast. I add unsweetened plant milk, a little organic maple syrup, 1 tsp flax seeds and whatever berries or banana I'm in the mood for that day. Lately it's been pomegranate seeds and banana.
Nice haul. I don't have a garden so can't use the trimmings for compost. Hate to pay for trimmings I'm going to throw away. It's nice to buy it already cleaned. Nice to have that option... there are man wonderful frozen vegis... especially greens that I incorporate into most of my mesls. Thanks for showing us how you shop. love the whole squashes. Looking forward to seeing how you prepare them.
Have you guys looked into a CSA in your area? Great way to get local produce, less plastic packaging and usually really affordable. Anyone who lives in San Diego, CA I totally recommend Yasukochi family farm, they deliver a huge box of produce to my door for 25 bucks a week which is great for 2 people. Then I just go to the grocery store for anything else we need
Here in So. Oregon we also have Natural Grocers and finally a Trader Joe's. I find TJs hard to navigate the parking and weird entry. Everything is on an angle, it seems.
Love your strategy of going to Aldi's first, then Trader Joe's for some specialty items, then filling in with Whole Foods. I do this with the stores in my town, too (although I'm generally searching for organic produce which is amazingly hard to find near me at a decent price). I just put a marker in my copy of Healthspan Solution so I can make that Fiesta Stew (fiesta!!) later today. Cheers!

The recipe is great you guys are going to love it
The tearless sweet onions are Vidalia onions. They go bad more quickly.
Regarding the amount you spend on groceries, about 8 mos ago we opened a separate checking account. We use just this account only for two budget line items:for groceries and eating out. I deposit $800 month into it. Now I know how much I spend on all eating, cleaning and personal care.
Cosmic crisp is our favorite apple. It was Sweet Tango but now it's the CC. We don't have a Trader Joe's but our Festival Foods has them sometimes.
Last year I had the Pukka tea advent calendar. Now I drink so many more herbal teas. Delicious.
Love this- simple and entertaining- always inspiring
Thank you so much! We aim to do all of those. 😀
Just the loveliest of couples...
Hi Jessica. I like the grocery hair style. 👍I loved watching the grocery haul. Watching this is making me want to go through my kitchen and do some meal prepping.
Yes ! Jessica & Brian I am happy to see this haul- hopefully more to come. Thanks for sharing❣🇨🇦
It does look like a lot of groceries! Only Walmart and HEB are close to me. You're lucky to have Aldi's Trader Joe's and Whole Foods!
Same for me...you must be in Texas too?
@@tammymcdonald1368 Yes
Jessica, your hair actually looks great like you have it today. It's a becoming style on you.
I can't believe how much more affordable groceries are where you live - jealous!
Love this video! Thanks guys!
The Marks & Spencer shopping bag!
You folks are doing more than just sharing about diet, it is like having friends come and visit when we can’t actually have many friends come and visit.😋
So come more often. Even when you share you struggles it helps because then our struggles seem more normal.
Excellent shopping trip! Thanks for sharing Jessica
Whole foods usually has the best price on tofu! It's $3.50 at Winn Dixie and $1.29 at Whole Foods
Their planners are amazing! I got the purple one!💜
Happy New year!
More grocery hauls in future would be great. I shop at several stores as well. I am surprised that you never mention shopping at Walmart. I think you would find a lot of things you like in frozen fruits and vegetables, dry beans, produce and almond milk.
This is the best video I didn't know I was waiting for! You guys are awesome!!!
We are all doing the best we can with what we got.😊
you guys should get a costco membership. life changing!!!!
Love Cosmic Crisp apples 🍎
Aldi and Kroger are my go-tos.
We absolutely love grocery shopping at Aldi! It’s definitely my go to place when trying to save money! Great haul!
I have my Marks & Spencer’s bags from back home. I like the same grocery stores too.
Hon you do not look like a psycho! Thanks for sharing. I like seeing what your shops have vs what we have locally here in Oz
I'm sorry people are banging on with you about packaging. You can recycle it in the best way possible. Right now with the pandemic it's most important you look after yourself. Your budget and your family. That might mean buying stuff packaged up.
Have you checked a Dollar Tree for frozen fruit? The peaches and berries are really good. And buck a bag.

Cosmic Crisp apples are soooooo good!
I'm totally jelly of that Planner!
We have all three of your stores but I shop at Central market and Fiesta. And Costco every couple months.
Great video! Have you ever thought of learning to can? I have recently learned to do this and it saves so much money when I'm canning beans. I can also add my own ingredients.
Happy New Year you two!
I always enjoy and admire your videos.😊👏👏👍
We are in Canada, we shop a lot at Costco and smaller local stores. We spend approximately $800/ month Canadian for groceries for our family of three. Your grocery hall would cost us well over $200 where I live. Those are great prices!
Yup. Costco is my go to as well. Then get the rest at places like No Frills, Superstore, Food Basics, FreshCo and sometimes Walmart.
Those are my favorite grocery stores too. Really enjoyed this. Thank you for sharing 🛒😃
@@michelledee9304. Thanks. I will have to try it.
Your blog post for this is very nicely done! Thanks for giving us so much great information!!
No Aldi’s here in Oregon but between Fred Meyers and Grocery Outlet we can get plenty of organic and healthy food.
Here in So. Oregon we also have Natural Grocers and finally a Trader Joe's. I find TJs hard to navigate the parking and weird entry. Everything is on an angle, it seems.
My first video to watch of you two. I'm in love already ... You two are flat out REAL!!! I LOVE ❣️ IT!!
Cheers!
