    This interpretation is a good illustration of just that.

    One of my favorites. When I was a boy almost 70 years ago, I used to lay under the piano while my cousin played "Claire de Lune." The music literally washed over me like a warm sea. I've heard it many times since then from a street busker on a guitar to soloists with our local subscription concerts. My talented grand niece will play it for me if I exercise my avuncular authority.
    I like your interpretation but it's a little slower and more ethereal than I'm used to hearing. What struck me, apart from your performance, is your ballet-like movements and gestures. Most captivating and expressive, like Claire's raiment floating in the night breeze as she gazes at the rising moon from her garden. The imagery your performance evokes also fits well with Blake's "To the Evening Star."
    I wish you a fulfilling musical career.

      Be careful how you spell this piece. It is Clair de Lune, not Claire de Lune. Not to panic, you are not the only one. I believe people do this because the composer is Claude, with an -e. Tiffany’s interpretation starts off the slowest I have ever heard it, then the tempo increases. I enjoy hearing many artist’s interpretations of this beautiful song. I give leeway to the way the performer is feeling that day.

      And just so you know actually since the peace is 9/8 timing and eventhough it says to be expressive but you are technically not supposed to go that fast in the beginning. That is how the composer wanted it played at least.

      @@papyrus1113 But there is a common thought that a lot of composers don't play their music as well as others. Most likely because they heard it a million times and you grow tired from it, but others don't have the same feeling as them. And plus, composers can't really practice every day. They compose more than practicing.

    Clair de lune is so popular but no one really realises how much of a beautiful masterpiece it is. It can sound dreamy, airy, and even nightmarish in some situations. It's how the Player interprets the music. To me it isn't peaceful, even if it's such a quiet piece. To me it feels like running in a dream and reaching a resolution at the end, which a dream never does. It feels like completing a chaotic dream. It's eerie and nightmarish because it feels like this piece is playing in the distance as you're dreaming about something else. There's so many ways to describe this piece and I love it in insurmountable ways. I hope I can find the skillset to play this with the infinite amount of expressions I want to portray through this and make it my own.

    Hi Tiffany! I first encountered your channel about 5 years ago when I just entered college. I was studying a Chopin piece and thought your interpretation and playing style was the one I wanted to adopt the most. I've since graduated and am about to enter medical school. One of the regrets I have is not finishing Clair de Lune while I still had the time. The hospital I am going to study in has a grand piano that can be used by hospital-goers and I have always dreamed of playing for the patients-- music has been shown to be therapeutic and I believe very much in this field of study. Watching your interpretation gives me hope that I may one day be able to add this masterpiece to my repertoire/ list of songs to play for patients. School starts in 2 days and I am glad to have stumbled upon this video by coincidence! I literally just typed in Clair de Lune and what luck! A new version was uploaded on your channel yesterday! Anyway! I just wanted to say thank you for always being an inspiration and thanks for rekindling an old dream! I am by all means sure this is how Debussy would have wanted people to hear this piece ! Cheers!

    Her interpretation is so delicate and full of subtleties. Her tempo feels slower and she purposely leaves more breathing air between the notes. The crescendo feels more powerful because it’s such a contrast to the soft touching of the keys almost like caressing a newborn creature. This is definitely my favourite interpretation.

    My absolute favorite classical piano piece: Clair de Lune, by Debussy, who is my favorite piano composer. This piece has so much meaning to me. It is the first piano piece I ever learned, and it tells a story that no other piece can describe. It tells a story of happiness, but internally. Not leaping for joy, but that slight smile you get when someone you love says something cheesy or sweet. I can’t really describe it. It’s such a light piece that brings a sense of calm over you. But it can be used over a montage of war; scenes of despair, because this song can also be extraordinarily lachrymose given the circumstances; bittersweet, perhaps. It reminds me of a scene in a movie, where a grandmother, who has lived an extraordinary life, is finally at peace with her death, and is surrounded by loved ones when she passes. A fade-to-black, if you will. And that’s why I love this piece. It brings out the happiness inside of you, while also allowing you to reflect on your sorrow, but not bring it out.

    I didn’t realize I was holding my breath-I’ve been trying to play this piece for a while now, but it’s nowhere near what I want it to sound like. Since I was away from piano for several years, my fingers feel too rusty... your interpretation is beyond beautiful. So inspired to keep trying!!!

    October 2023. Tiffany I love your sensitive, expressive interpretation of this Debussy classic. It has long been a favorite of mine. I often listen to this with eyes closed and experiencing a panoply of colors with the dreamy lyrical phrases. This piece you’ve just played evoked that experience. Thank you for taking me to that faraway dreamy place. Away from the cares of day to day life. 👍❤️🤗☺️🎼

    Claire de Lune to me sounds like a longing for something in the distance that is out of reach. Something familiar but yet you can't describe it... very nostalgic. It gives me very intense feelings of sadness and happiness at the same time.. one of the greatest pieces ever composed :)

    Thank you from the bottom of my heart for delivering the most beautiful rendition of this piece I have ever heard. Can’t even really begin to explain how gentle and graceful, and so much more, this is.

    My mother was French as her family were immigrants to the US after the Franco/Prussian war. She delighted in hearing/seeing activities and music inspired by her ancestral roots. One such place was the France pavilion at the Epcot park in Florida where Debussy's music was part of the films sound track played in the theater there. Debussy then a "Éclair au chocolat", you have created a time machine here, it transports me to a wonderful time.

      First copy someone else's interpretation. Then go on without listening to it and playing it on your own for a while. You'll be surprised how different the piece is to the one you began copying, any piece becomes yours after a while.

    • @mountchoco8174
      @mountchoco8174 5 лет назад

      Hacker0_o ive played it- but i might revisit this piece now and try that, thank you! I hope to find more insight as to how i can express myself through music, not just getting things like dynamics and accents... any tips on rubato? I know to use it in moderation, but im curious since a lot of soloists use rubato even if its not notated, so is rubato also a role in interpretation?

    • @holypeachy
      @holypeachy 5 лет назад

      @@mountchoco8174 Now a days rubato is used freely I feel. According to some sources Chopin was against the overuse of rubato, and when used he taught his students to always be on time for the next measure. I feel rubato is a great tool for interpretation but yes it can be overused really easily specially on slow pieces; but really is up to the pianist's interpretation. Whan in doubt I always go to Rubinstein XD.
