ClairE de Lune ... Don't know why I wrote the title wrong :P Whatever - it was a tough challenge, didn't expect it to be that hard :P Have you ever played this piece? Tell me in the comments!
Kewl, great video as always, 9/8 rhythm is pretty unusual but u pulled it off flawlessly!
ive played the first two pages
This is my favorite piece but the sheet music dont have fingering how i can get the fingering or what i can do
And Anique you are impresive learning
It sounded good to me! You could also try 'Schubert/Liszt : Erlkönig'
Eddy's favourite piece 🌛
"iNeReStInG"
Stole my comment ahahahah.
Lol...we don't know that for sure u know,but I can relate 😁
Twosetttttt!
@@shirlyjosna2702 yesssssssssss
Im currently learning this piece and just now I realize how many mistakes im making
Honestly same…..apparently my rhythm is super whack
@@akiyachef_5213 Yeah I struggle with that too
@william same but it is still very fun and relaxing to play which is the most important thing for me
@@noahmanus2923 agreed
@@connieknight9077 yeah I looked it up I think you mean Josh Wright and its actuallu helpfull I needed this thank you!
Clair de Lune is an example of “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover”. In this case, don’t judge a piece without looking and analyzing the music sheet first.
This piece, as you put it, is VERY different after even just 30 min or so of music analysis. So much depth behind the notes.
It's spelled Clair De Lune.
fanyu everywhere
Love your profile pic
Tapos?
You made more progress in an hour than I did in 2 months
More than I have in 6!!
I love the vibes of this video, the big piano, her long brown hair, the white dress, clair de lune.its honestly so beautiful
My sentiments exactly - just missing the low lights and candles!
Would love to hear her interpretation after a couple of years of playing the piece.
I’m surprised she hasn’t played Clair de lune even though she’s a classical pianist haha. Anyway she’s a great pianist and of amazing skill! Keep it up Annique
Super skilled but she most definitely has before at least briefly.
Where is the soul?
@@greenwhitepnion9211 they aren’t talking about the Classical period.
I think that she's not learning it for the first time, but is just practing it after a long time,or just for her it's a normal practice session, because it's impossibilità she has never played it hahaha
@@sophiepreuer9362 I play this piece with ‘soul’ (I can’t be bothered sorting out my rhythm so I play what feels right in the moment)
The problem is you're counting in German. You need to count Debussy in French.....
J/K, this is delightful. I've been plunking at this all my life, you've inspired me to maybe work on it a bit more.
😂
Un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf
You are totally right. You have to catch the emotions and the soul of Debussy!!!
Wait do you mean
Sometimes I’m amazed at how many really famous pieces she’s never played before. It’s great of course because now we have this video but still...surprising at least.
I got a little advice from my music teacher when started to study this musical work. He said count 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3 each measure. It helped me a lot with my study. Like to share it with you guys :)
I was taught to count triplets or compound time as 1 + a 2 + a 3 + a, etc. (i.e. one and ah two and ah three and ah). And semiquavers/sixteenths as 1 e + a 2 e + a (one ee and ah two ee and ah...) etc. I thought everyone did that, but maybe it's just a percussionist thing.
@@atatdotdot lots of different ways to do it!
By the way, that is because this is a waltz, or at least it’s in 3/4. I don’t know if you know that, but it feels worth mentioning.
My point was that a piece in 9/8 does not have nine beats in a bar, it has three - it's compound triple time. So you should count 1 x y 2 x y 3 x y, where x and y are some subdivision syllables - and I presume these will vary by region or teacher.
The exactly counting is 1 2 3 in dotted quater note that’s its. you must to feel each dotted quater note.
The firts one must be feel like if you exhale more heavyweight and relax all the tension, and the second and the third must be inhale more light. you always must feel a circle
To each bars of music with your wrist cause wrist breathe. the circle begins to the bottom with the first time. And goes up with the other time and start again with the first time to the next music bar. All the piano’s music must be played like that, cause you group your music bar in single gesture
Honestly kinda love that the alarm startles her, because it shows how into the music she gets, forgets about the world, then the alarm brings her back to reality
Why is nobody talking about how pretty she is?
It is so heart warming to see such a beautifully talented young artist striving for the best.
I am 78 and just starting to learn what I always wanted to learn, Claire de Lune. Better late than never.
Thank you Annique, you inspire me.
I've definitely spent several days with this piece. I appreciate seeing someone fairly accomplished make many of the same inevitable flubs with fingering (admittedly, she gave herself very little time) but it reminds me that regardless of how accomplished you are, we need to go through the same learning curve. Some of us walk it faster than others, but we all must walk it. Debussy's music has tremendous room for finesse and expression, so can continually teach us the more we work with it. Thank you for an amazing video!
This pianist needs a lot more attention and subscribers because her piano playing and technique is unbelieve. “Whose with me”
The first three seconds are gold. It’s me, each minute of my piano practicing.
the dress? the hair? The gorgeous piano? The PLAYING? Are you an angel???
The dress is fitting th piece, Debussy's pieces represant the romatic era the best
i discovered this piece in the evil within game
Debussy’s works are from the impressionistic era not romantic. Even though Debussy himself hated the word Impressionism, his works are still classified as impressionistic. He was one of the founding fathers of Impressionism.
Liszt, Chopin, Schumann, Brahms represent the romantic ear. Debussy was MUCH later and really is not a representative of the romantic era at all.
Why does the word "romantic" always get so abused? Something which sounds nice or "dreamy" is not necessarily romantic.
I mean, suicide is romantic.
@@Kref3 Debussy was not MUCH later than Brahms lmao
@@pierfrancescopeperoni Romantic as in Romanticism, the artistic and intellectual period/movement, is a tad bit differently classified ;)
Impressive as always! I love this piece!
yes!
Aaah, fangirling! Debussy is my favorite and it’s always nice to hear musicians play his pieces. So it’s even more exciting for me to see you pick this for this challenge. I really love hearing you play. Love this series of yours and def one of my fave classical pianists! ✨
15:30 -- "WTF are these sharps doing here?" My feelings exactly when I reached that part.
I'm impressed how quickly you got rhythms down where I (as an amateur) am still struggling!
Here is how I see the situation; Beautiful woman, beautiful musicianship, beautiful teaching. I learn more in five minutes with you than ever before, but that might be because I know so little. Thank you.
@F1shM!nn who can blame them tho
@F1shM!nn SIMPBELIUS OMG STOP
@F1shM!nn I see you are a fan of cringe cringe 40hrs
next? Chopin - Heroic Polonaise (Op. 53 in A Flat Major) ?
yess pls i’ve been asking for that too
Yess , I also asked for that one lol
Good idea...
I think she has learnt this piece, she's a big fan of Chopin
@@ИванИванов-я9ы8н I never saw her playing this on her Instagram at least...
And by the way, even though she's played before, I'll give you an example: she's already tried to play Moonlight Sonata 3rd movement before, but even so, she made a recent video playing this piece as a challenge...
The only absolute and confirmed truth is to see her answer about it.
Just to comment you look like a Lune fairy in this dress, totally appropriate with music and very beautiful!
This piece was my first real project my teacher gave me I put a lot of effort in. Learned it in Summerbreak 2018. Always come back to it since it introduced me to real classical piano. Am 17 now and by no means a good pianist but Debussy remained a big part and I've learned a lot more from him since. Oh und Grüße aus Baden Württemberg :)
I'm an absolute beginner at the piano, but I was hooked on this piece and spent about 4 or 5 hours a day trying to learn it for the last 4 months. It's encouraging to know that even the pros struggle a little bit with this piece, even if "struggle" for them is still better than I'll ever play.
@@mar7he131 Yeah, I'm glad I started with it, I don't have the patience to sit through the basics, and if it wasn't for this piece that really gripped me, I would have dropped piano immediately. Now I can backtrack and learn the basics to add to my playing, so even if it isn't the most efficient way to proficiency, for me it was the only way.
@@jasonwillows5239 so I'm curious how's it going right now :)
The most beautiful tune ever composed, hardly a evening goes by without this being sampled for an advert.
I LOVE these videos
Mearure 27 is where I am scratching my head... and measure 29... I have no idea what to do. I can't help but fall in love with musical talent like yours and the humility in which you present.
Just take it SLOWLY. look up finger positions for it if that helps. Musescore has a version with finger positions on it that I have used to see if the editor has better ideas than I do for which fingers to use
Love that you describe the mistakes for us that don’t catch it! Also good for those who want to learn the piece too
I haven’t even seen the video yet but I already can say it will be an awesome one..
Mr Fryderyk you are pride of Poland! The whole country is very proud of you! 🇵🇱
@@karolpawlowski5368 oh thanks for the kind comment!
Oh okey so I've been practicing this piece for 1 month and this girl in 1 hour is sounding like an angel
It's really encouraging to see a classical pianist struggling this much! Usually you only get to see pianists in "performance mode" when everything is perfect.
Its weird watching this person play this perfectly in 5 minutes, when it took me a day to do so. Granted, I am a beginner and I CAN'T SIGHT READ FOR THE LIFE OF ME. But, it's VERY impressive seeing somebody learn this so quickly.
I must ask: How are you so amazing and have not learned such well-known pieces? Love the challenge format, btw!
Time is limited there are always more pieces
She tries to learn lesser known pieces to challenge herself, especially Chopin etudes
@@andrewleaming3049 chopin etudes are well known though
@@practician5730 not as well known as moonlight sonata or Claire de lune though
Never studied this piece as yet. It is a beautiful piece but sounds complex to play well. Great job Annique!!😊. There are so many pieces to learn and so little time…
I hate it when i find new channels that i want to bingewatch but have no time to bingewatch lol
I am amazed at artists that can pick a piece like this apart in a little over any hour. I've heard many pianists play Clair de Lune and it just shocks me to see you perform it so well so quickly.
The Rhythm is not complicate love. You just have to feel the music and play with your soul. It's not a math exercise but a soul exercise. It's not just about listening but feeling inside of you.
That was beautiful. You did better in 1hr than I've been able to do in 2 months of practice. Claire de Lune is my favorite piece. You are amazing.
You look sooo beautiful in this dress!! 🥰😍
I been learning this for a while now and it feels encouraging to see that the hard parts are hard and that’s it’s not just a complete lack of ability/understanding of the piece on my part. Thank you for all you do and sharing a part of your life with us.
i can just listen to you talking and still complete my assignments, its just so soothing.
This is my first time stumbling upon your channel. It's really cool to watch a professional learn this piece and see the process. I am a beginner -ish (750 hours of practice in 6 months) and I'm learning this piece right now. It's taken me a month to get through the first 2 pages at an average of 4 hours of practice in one day lol. She did it in an hour. I'm still getting used to reading in treble clef, though, and also still getting used to chord shapes, so that explains it haha... I definitely cannot sight read. Hopefully after some years I will be able to 😊
For 1/10/60 you did *fantastic. The fragile sound is only the beginning. Debussy was notorious for inter-chordal opposing dynamics, where you'll play a 3-4 note chord or roll on one hand, where one or two notes of the notes ring louder or softer than the others. This piece is *loaded* with that composition technique (hint: as is most of Debussy's piano repertoire). It sounds so sublime when played correctly, yet is incredibly deceptive. To learn this piece to the point I was convinced it was worthy of public exhibition I was playing it 4-5 dozen times a day for three months.
Please do Liebestraum No. 3 by Liszt I’m really curious on how you would learn that piece!
Im not sure she could learn it in one hour
@@moimorak she did Hungarian rhapsody in 1 hour soooo
@@moimorak definitely manageable
@@nezajaz Leibestraum no 3 is far more difficult than Claire de Lune, and longer, so not sure why you seem so sure.
@@jdun1 cause Liebestraum is not too complex for sight-reading. Don't get me wrong, it's not easy. There are a couple of cadenza-like moments that take a bit more time, but it's not like her end results are concert-ready performances, nor are they intended to be. On the other hand, I've seen people with some extraordinary sight reading skills who could probably sight read the entire Friska section (mentioned in the comment section earlier) with no problem, not to mention Liebestraum. So it all depends on the individual, I guess.
Wow ,these videos of her always motivate me a lot for practicing, btw she is so cute!
Deceptively simple, when it’s played without understanding then it’s pretty but when played as intended it creates a whole moment in time, setting sun, gentle rise of the moon and lifts us up into the very light itself. Dankeschön.
Been playing this for like a year.... it is so nuanced.....and evokes so much emotion
One of my favorite songs for sure....
Do you feel that every time you play it, the piece asks more from you? As if you're close to getting what you want from it, but there's still that extra bit that's always seems out of reach?
@lollycopter well first off... I'm amateur at best.... but I definitely enjoy it.... but...in short yes...
I work on one part... and I find another part that needs working on... so on and so forth... but it's such a great piece...
この人のピアノは暖かいと思う、
速いフレーズもしっかり弾く技術に妥協しない演奏も素晴らしいと思います。
Claire de Lune is such a beautiful piece and I cannot understand why Debussy himself dislikes it
I'm moving from norway to germany in a few months and I was happy I found some german RUclipsrs.
What’s really enjoyable here, is that it begins to seem like you’re writing this piece as you go along. One can more easily imagine Debussy writing it.
You’re also such a delicate, expressive player! Mesmerizing to watch! Like a ballerina who also plays piano…🥰
When watching these videos i realize how much deeper the music really is and how much more I have to learn to be able to play a piece well.
make me wanna go practice this piece again, even though i have other pieces to work on
You look very beautiful in that outfit and well, music is always great. You learn so fast. I´d say lucky you but I know that is because of much hard work and practice, not a matter of luck.
yay feels great seeing you making more progess in 1 minute than me in 3 daysv (although I know you invested so much more time learning the piano in your past).
Thankyou, I found this on a free website yesterday. Very pretty. I really appreciate being able to read the music as you play. It helps me correct myself as I only went to third grade classical but think I can play this one.
that was BEAUTIFUL!!!! I could listen to you all day long!!!
I do love these challenges you do. They throw up some real gems. The way you played the temp rubato passage is lovely.
I like how she always got shocked when the alarm goes on
Such a lovely piece. I just downloaded this and printed it yesterday and started working it. It is probably a bit beyond my level but if I simplify I can get the first couple of pages nicely until I hit the arpeggios. Going to have to tear those apart to get them right but I'm loving the sound of this piece. It is so beautiful.
I luv the sound of your playing piano
A beautiful piece, performed by an extremely dedicated, skillful and beautiful classical pianist, wearing a beautiful dress. It doesn’t get much better than that.
When Annique has this song down and is able to play it with confidence and feeling, I would love to hear her play it in its entirety.
Gorgeous tone on that piano
So nice to see you making something else than those well-known finger twisters!
You're so impressive!! This is the only full piece I can play, took me several years of on and off play to finally finish it lol. It really is so beautiful when it all comes together
I hate to break it to you but only non musicians would believe your first full piece is one of the hardest songs lol…
@@Hehexddddd lol at no point did the guy call it the hardest piece
@@Hehexddddd that is def not the hardest song, are you okay? it is no where near the hardest song.
Right right, im well aware a grade 7 song isint the hardest in the world but u guys fail to realise grade 1-6 exist where u expect me to believe he had not learn a full song from the previous grades? U think this dude attended one piano class to know the basics then straight up started practising the same song for several years to finally be able to play it?
Yall actually think people start their first full song with D flat major?😂😂. Bruh i can hardly believe even if he said fur elise was his first full song and that is only grade 3
The E major section 😩 absolutely finger contorting
You upgrading yourself every next day about of video edit. congratulations 🤗🤗
My absolute all time favorite piece of music! Ever!
My piano teacher gave me this piece and in one hour I got through 4 measures haha, you are an amazing pianist ! Played beautifully and I can learn alot from you! Subscribing :)
You did amazingly well for having soent just an hour.
I have been playing this piece for a few years.its beautiful, because youre always a student of this piece. It is bot so hard to learn the piece technically, but to master all of the subtleties and nuances of this piece, takes a long time. For me anyway
I’m 41 and trying to learn the piano. The weirdest thing to me is that people can look at sheet music and figure out how to time things correctly or the fact someone could even write it down to begin with.
34 yo total beginner here. Can definitely empathise with these thoughts! How has your year gone with learning?!
New video idea: different time signatures. I like it when you explain/interpret the pulse of different time signatures, for example I didn't even know how to find the pulse in this 9/8!
I started to learn this years ago. You got further in the hour than I got in a week or two, because ... I AM the WORLDS SLOWEST at reading music, NO ONE can read music slower than I!! But anyway, I just got bored with it I guess. However, there is no way on God's green earth that I would have ever begun to understand all these nuances in timing that you get into. I would've just "played it so it 'sounds good'". I know ... waiting for the lightning bolt. You're still beautiful.
It took me one year to get through...I still haven't got it completely right. But it's a beautiful piece and your learning curve is amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Learning Arabesque No1 right now, and your information about Debussy was very helpful!
People say this is an easy piece but it's actually really hard to play, maybe not technically, but on the interpretative aspect
How do I play as beautifully as this by looking at a piece and practicing it for an hour and 11 mins. That's crazy.
If you do just that one piece or one movement, you are doing it over and over and over and over again, you should dramatically improve. And this piece is so beautiful to begin with, even a novice will sound beautiful.
@@Skitdora2010 I'm a self taught pianist and I haven't been playing for very long. I play on a k.kawaii grand so I'm lucky to play on a beautiful instrument. But I get intimidated, knowing a piece like claire de lune is a grade 10-11 piece. I know I would be over reaching. My goal is to some day learn chopins op25 no5.
@@iskandarrasimoon734 I mean, you could try to play it, it took me 3 months being a intermediate beginner, and of course it wasn't the best, but I managed to play somewhat close to it
For your 10 minutes try, it took me like a month to get to this point and i was very proud of myself and, I hear what you can do in less than one hour and i'm thinking like "It'll take me a while to reach this level"
Anyway, really good video because really good piece of course and continue like that.
Cheers.
I Beautiful Piece Played by a Beautiful Pianist= Beautiful Performance
I love this piece, one of my `dream pieces` that I wanted to learn. I finally did it last year after playing a couple of other Debussy songs to get a better hang for it. the first Arabesque helped me a lot rhythmically because the hands play 3 notes against 2 for pretty much the whole song and it changes which hand plays de 3 notes sometimes.
Very nice! And thank you for doing Claire de Lune; this is something I want to do myself, soon. I've played a couple of the preludes, and you're right; Debussy is very prescriptive in his scores. My teacher says over-prescriptive." While the notes themselves are clear, his performing hints are sometimes as vague as Satie. "Gradually emerging from the fog" or "ethereal and muffled." Or "with tender and sad regret." On the other hand, 9/8 can be fun. Take a look some time at Dave Brubeck's Blue Rondo a la Turk. 9/8 switches between 2-2-2-3 and 3-3-3, then the whole thing shifts to 4/4 for a while. And back. As with Claire de Lune, being strict about tempo is crucial.
Again, thank you for this one!
Yeeessssss!
One of my best classical songs! Thank you for this video! 👏
Next Challenge: Sonate Phatetiqe ... Pls make it!!!
I’m always impress on this exercise and result you finally obtain in a so short period of time.
Totally right when you say it is harder then it looks to hear. Difficulty is indeed to follow the rythm, but also transmit all the sensibility of the music, but sensibility can be different from one interpret to another one, even if you still need to keep in mind the period when this was written
I’m playing this piece regularly and coming back to it. What i like to do is to listen to interpetation from different grand masters, and you realize that how Lang Lang would play it is quitte différent than à russian, or japaneese bright interpret. Among all these Master, of course for debussy or french music Samson François is the reference.
Can i suggest you to do this challenge with à ravel piece i love ’pavane on a dents of an infanta’
oooh been waiting for this one 🤩 have played this piece for years but still learnt a lot from this video! never realised the pulse was so important..... love the vids as usual annique :)

Thanks so much for playing Clair de Lune, you made my day! I really hope to be able to play this some day it's one of my favorite songs.
I watch these for two reasons. 1, the playing is amazing. 2, it’s real funny when she gets scared by the alarm.
omg you're so gorgeous
Can't think of anything to say, but wanted to help you out... so yay!
Great video and excellent course
One of my favorite classical pieces to listen to. I've never figured out the timing. I've always thought it was played in free time whenever I listen to it.
This music is my favorite of all classic musics. Just wonderful!
I truly believe that all those places where you are labelling too long and short at the beginning are pretty much open to interpretation. In my opinion I would consider practicing the noted rhythm till you have a feeling of what was intended. Then once you’ve got it, completely remove any concern of rhythm and just focus on how it feels. At that point whatever feels right is right in my book - if ever there was a piece where the numbers just don’t matter this is it. All about expression - and that can continually develop too. Lovely playing by the way - beautiful touch. I’m not a great pianist, but I’ve played this a lot. I like listening to people’s different renditions of it too
I loved this video so much. And loved how you rocking that dress, you go gurl! Keep up the amazing work 🙌🏻🌸
it’s just a dress, no need to be a simp
Always a great pleasure to see you struggle with such challenge. Congratulation....this keep me "alive" at my level thinking that I am not the only one to "suffer"...
By the way, nice attire, yesss...gorgeous....
