Kind of reassuring that it's a struggle for everyone, classical pianists included LOL Animenz went off with this one. Also, I suck at sight reading rhythms too, you're definitely not alone!
Didn't expect that one! This is the arrangement that made me start piano 6 years ago, and I don't regret it lol Don't worry you did great for only a bit more than 1 hour practice, as you said the rhythms are not easy on this one, + the large amount of polyphony and different techniques used. And he's a huge fan of Beethoven so that makes quite a few common points with him haha!

The techniques required to play this piece are some of the most frustrating imo: octaves, tremolo, fast arpeggios, and even repeated notes. Yeah, animenz is a monster. He explained in some videos that this piece was the hardest he wrote and he doesn't like it because of that. He tried to put as many technics as possible, he based a lot of parts on Liszt etudes and... Well, it's a pain to play, although it's beautiful.
@@davidnoranavascues4489 that doesn't mean it's hard, but simply that the other things that she got down in 1 hour are even easier, because if you can get any sort of shape out of 1 hour of practice, no matter who you are, that isn't a hard piece
@@davidnoranavascues4489 However, I would say that hard/easy is really relative and also opinionistic. As she is a classical pianist, playing an anime transcription would give unusual difficulty as it is not something she is used to. My definition of "hard" is also rather strict, most likely because I also play piano at a rather high level, and learning something in 1 hour is rather unheard of when you get to that point.

I’ve been playing piano for almost a decade, and I am absolute garbage at sight reading complex rhythms. It’s relieving to see that even amazingly talented and experienced pianists still have their own challenges when sight reading
Damn, would like to see how well you'd fare if you really tried to master the piece with as much time as you wanted. For a little over an hour and a half, that was impressive! Would love to see how many attempts it takes you to get the arpeggios down.
Oh, it is actually reassuring to hear that even a high level player like you can have trouble with unusual rhythms. The last piece I learned, Rachmaninoff's Elegie, I ended up spending over 1 hour just figuring out the rhythm in a few small sections. I felt really stupid, but that was a very challenging piece to me. Despite the unusual patterns, how do you think this piece compares with difficult pieces from the standard classical repertoire? I don't know anything about anime music, but I've heard that this arrangement is extremelly difficult. I wonder how it compares to a Chopin etude, for instance. From the score, it looks like it has some very unpianistic sections.
I've played quite a few Chopin etudes and Animenz's Unravel and unravel is much harder than most Chopin Etudes although not quite as challenging as double thirds or winterwind, it certainly sits close though.
The thing that baffles me the most is the tempo you start playing. I would never ever start playing fast, but then again I'm a lifetime behind you in piano skills.
It helps to get out of your comfort zone and try things you're not used to playing. Think of this as finding areas where you need more work and I really enjoyed this video. More like this please!
Oh very nice too see even talented and hard worker people can struggle too >_< I'm still amazed by how fast you guys/girls can pick up things on a new piece.

You still nailed it very very well tho, your one and half hour practice is better than my half a year's. Not only notes accuracy, but also phrasing and pedaling. Kudos!
this makes me feel so good that a much (MUCH) better pianist than me struggled with this piece as well hahaah.. . 😆 I've been learning this piece off an on for a couple years. All your comments were exactly my experience. Brain breaking rhythms. I spent so much time just figuring out what fingering would work the best and figuring out the timing, jumps, etc. After a few attempts, and playing a LOT more kpop songs in the meantime, I think I should tackle this piece again.
A year ago, i stopped learning this piece on the piano. It was the cadenza like bridge that made me gave up all hopes of completing the song. Now, I’m more than motivated to continue learning and practicing the piece
it was awesome that you stepped out of your zone and practice something less familiar to you, thats part of the never ending piano journey, you did great even though you were frustrated, hope you can conquer that song (which is a beautiful piece and really complex but rewarding).
This has finally inspired me to learn how to read sheet music. I've literally only ever used synthesia tutorials to learn... I'm amazed it took you that quick to pick up. I've spent like an hour using the synthesia videos and only know about 15 seconds of the song fluently...

@@heartofthekeys this is my fav vid, every now and then I pop into the channel to check if there’s an update haha. Hopefully one day you do get to go through the whole piece! :)

"Unravelled"... seriously, I really enjoyed this one and appreciate your genuine humility so much! Awesome video!
This was interesting. Someone literally studying music for YEARS still struggle, to play Animenz's Unravel. This piece is the summit of anime music. This really is a life goal to be able to play this. Good luck on practicing, Annique! Du schaffst das schon!💪🏾
Tolles video. Als jemand der viele Fehler macht und erst seit 4 Jahren spielt ist es echt schön zu sehen wie jeder, egal wie fortgeschritten Schwierigkeiten hat, macht das video sehr relatable.
I hope we can get 10K likes. I'd love to hear you play this piece.
What's great about you doing this is A: the better you get @ it essentially learning songs on the spot the more of session player territory you're entering!!! 2nd: very brave of you to film this!!! Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
This was so good even for just less than an hour worth of practice!! Wish we could hear you play the whole piece or a longer version someday! :)
Holy moly, ive been taking piano classes for like 6 months, and i cant even read this sheet lol. Amazingly incredible how fast u were able to learn and play that, congratz
The piano sounds absolutely gorgeous
1 hour, 10 hours, 1 day challenge necessary! Kidding. But would love to see a continuation, you already did very well!
You struggle at rhythm because you're not used with this type of music and I assume you haven't heard the original animenz performance enough. Plus this one of his most technically challenging arrangement and your progress under 2 hours is astonishing. Respect.
This frustration is so relatable! Thank you for sharing this!
Your 1 hour is much better than my 6 months 😂😂
I just want to say it's somewhat refreshing seeing that amazing musicians can an do struggle at times with new pieces and rhythms..
And the amount you improved in 1 hourish is hands down incredible...
You did an amazing job !!!👏👏🥰
OMG
No esperaba que Annique tocara alguna... Canción de anime :0
Yo creo que era demasiado obvio, tiene que expandirse más allá de lo clásico....
The fact that u still write down fingering humbles me significantly. If someone as experienced as you still writes down fingerings, that means it works. Thank you for the wisdom ✨
I love this series and the mix and match with the Anime,. Please do more Anime song covers. Keep up the good work!
When I discovered this piece I liked it so much I decided to watch the anime. I’m so glad you picked it ❤️
It was realy surpring for me to see such skilled pianist like you not being able to cope with an anime song, but I think that it is not bad and even cool that we cant master pieces of each type and style and now I even feel a bit more confident in my sightreading because of your example!)) Thank you for such useful and exciting content, keep doing that!)
Yeah, animenz is a monster. He explained in some videos that this piece was the hardest he wrote and he doesn't like it because of that. He tried to put as many technics as possible, he based a lot of parts on Liszt etudes and... Well, it's a pain to play, although it's beautiful.
not because the piece is hard, but because 1 hour is basically nothing to any pianist
@@tritone246 And because the piece is hard. Normally she ends up more or less playing it, but this time got practically nothing in one hour.
My definition of "hard" is also rather strict, most likely because I also play piano at a rather high level, and learning something in 1 hour is rather unheard of when you get to that point.
as a complete novice player but I've been composing for a long time, like 20 years. such a fun video for me to watch. keep having fun and learning from these amazing composers.
i watched that anime and it's awesome!!! I love that you also like anime and that you play this beautiful song for us. Thank you so much for this beautiful 14:55 minutes that I was allowed to watch ❤️
I’ve been playing piano for almost a decade, and I am absolute garbage at sight reading complex rhythms. It’s relieving to see that even amazingly talented and experienced pianists still have their own challenges when sight reading
I started playing the piano a year and a half ago, I started to learn this cover a year ago. In 1 hour you're better than me. Legit
15k hours of piano vs 1000, the difference is obviously huge
This is the dumbest comment I've read in a long while
Watching you struggle was very comforting. It takes me weeks to get to this level of competency on my easy grade 4 beginner pieces.
Damn, would like to see how well you'd fare if you really tried to master the piece with as much time as you wanted. For a little over an hour and a half, that was impressive! Would love to see how many attempts it takes you to get the arpeggios down.
This is in my opinion the Single most beautiful piece ever. Its so nice. I hope you give it another try.
A few minutes in I realize this is not a good video for this comment, it's true for all the other challenges though haha
It's crazy how in 1 hours 11 min she already did better than 99% of other covers where most have been practising this song for months or even years 😂
1 hour? You played fucking WELL
My first question was why wasn’t this video 1hr and 11mins long
It helps to get out of your comfort zone and try things you're not used to playing. Think of this as finding areas where you need more work and I really enjoyed this video. More like this please!
oh no… you went to the dark side of the piano…
Dark side? It's just another genre...
Dark side lmao XDDD
Yes!!! I'm learning this piece right now and can't believe I get to watch you play it in this format!
Bro I was in 4:35 when I see your comment lol

It's OK to take 1 Day, 1 Month and even 1 year piano challenges with Animenz's piece and we will be as patient as the timer set.
Oh very nice too see even talented and hard worker people can struggle too >_<
I'm still amazed by how fast you guys/girls can pick up things on a new piece.
Kid, I am your fan already💕.
Und 1 und 2 und 3 und 😂

Tokyo ghoul is the one anime that got me hooked into the whole genre, season one is a masterpiece!
I am always waiting for your full cover of this annique!!
you're amazing ! i hope u will continue to practice this one and show us how strong u are !
I am glad you attempted to play this music, as I think that in the long run, it will help you become a better musician. Thanks for sharing!
Amazing! She did in one hour what I did in several weeks (I'm still learning it 😄)
You still nailed it very very well tho, your one and half hour practice is better than my half a year's.
After a few attempts, and playing a LOT more kpop songs in the meantime, I think I should tackle this piece again.
seeing you try not to laugh gives me the motivation to learn this, thanks.
Für eine Stunde war eine sehr gute Leistung! Bin sehr stolz auf dich
A year ago, i stopped learning this piece on the piano. It was the cadenza like bridge that made me gave up all hopes of completing the song.
Now, I’m more than motivated to continue learning and practicing the piece
it was awesome that you stepped out of your zone and practice something less familiar to you, thats part of the never ending piano journey, you did great even though you were frustrated, hope you can conquer that song (which is a beautiful piece and really complex but rewarding).
i actually love your energy
So hard on yourself. You’re awesome. Don’t forget that.
This has finally inspired me to learn how to read sheet music. I've literally only ever used synthesia tutorials to learn... I'm amazed it took you that quick to pick up. I've spent like an hour using the synthesia videos and only know about 15 seconds of the song fluently...
