I'm absolutely thrilled you're taking on Kyle Landry's Version! it's definitely a piece I wanna play myself one day and I've been learning a bit of his stuff
@@8kw7mx9 So you're saying his version is a fail but he's a really good self tought pianist. Is anything not coming from a legend like Animenz a fail then ? Also, keep in mind this challenge is supposed to be somewhat doable, I'm not so sure she could learn Animenz's technique in an hour
@@8kw7mx9 personally, I dislike both. As I do with most of KL’s arrangements. They just get too complicated with too many added notes that take away from the feeling of the song and becomes a demonstration of skill. Edit: Even the girl in the video says that too much takes away from what the song is supposed to be.
The strangeness of Howl's moving castle is what makes it the most spiritual and interesting Ghibli movie to me. And I absolutely love the music. Big thumbs up!
Your 1min, 10min, 1h challenges are super interesting. I really enjoy watching them and every time I'm so amazed of how fast pieces can be learnt by sightreading if you're skilled and experienced enough. I hope to get there one day. I started playing and taking piano lessons 3 years ago and I'm still struggling with sightreading and especially rhythms often. Thanks for sharing these challenges, you're really inspiring. :) My favorite Ghibli movies are Spirited Away and Howls Moving Castle.
Amazing work on that, love to see the Kyle Landry version of it. You impress me everytime on how fast you can learn a piece, and your playing is so good.. you bring always joy in my days. Thank you 🤍.
I learned the beginning of this piece (exactly where you got to after 1 hour) years ago, and played it on and off since then. The first few notes have never sounded as crisp for me as they did for you on even your first go at it. And basically everything else was just so much better than anything I could have done. I got butterflies when you started playing after the 1 hour marks, because it was so amazingly beautiful, and that realising this kind of result was possible, maybe I should pick this piece back up and learn it properly sometimes.
Your channel is awesome. I had piano lessons as a child for 10+ years and was never really taught everything you talk about here, like how to actually REALLY study and learn a piece, how to improve different parts of your playing, the fingering and so on.. I could have learned so much more... also a big Studio Ghibli fan, I love Howl's moving castle ... strange, cool, crazy, thought provoking, fantastic...
What…same! I’ve finished music school feeling like it hasn’t really taught me anything, and I only learned the pieces which I was assigned which was maybe 4 a year. I never knew how to properly learn or study a piece, and even after a year, my pieces sounded like they had no soul. Now, after finishing music school, I’m trying to learn piano ‘again’ - the right way
I haven't actually watched any Ghibli films yet, but I absolutely adore their music. It's so beautifully composed and always manages to set the perfect mood.
Spirited Away, Princess Mononoke, and Howl’s Moving Castle! (sorry i couldnt pick one 😔 theyre all so amazingly beautiful & impactful in their own ways!)
Nice challenge again today! Although nice, I would’ve loved to see a different arrangement…. This is, in my opinion, the best by far: ruclips.net/video/lB4PRX737-0/видео.html But still a great job!
you should really check out kyle landry if you didnt! his improvisations are just amazing, some recs: improv - d-minor , also his approaching death - improv is just so emotional. amazing playing btw. So awesome ifound you on youtube, followe you on IG for awhile now
Vielen Dank Annique für dieses Video und so viele Meinungen und Ratschläge🥰 ich werde bald dieses Stück spielen und das hilft mir weiter. Gracias/Danke
For me having problems with sight reading it really is motivating to see that it is absolutely ok to practice a piece. Until today I thought that skilled sightreading means that you can play a piece immediately 😁 but now I really feel good and motivated because I seem to be on the right way
this 1min 10min 1hour video was awesome especially when you make a mistake that's motivating seeing that everybody makes mistakes at every level and practice to get better
This video is so cute! I have to admit that your 1 min, 10 min, 1 hour challenge videos motivated me to make my own... and it's SO HARD!!! Good luck with your channel, seems like you're doing great! :D
I was just watching Kyle's video on this for the thousandth time and thought to myself if you could try this! Then scrolled down and was pleasantly surprised.
Unsure if others have already made this comment, but RE: the weirdness that might be perceived in Howl's Moving Castle, some of that might be explained by the fact that Miyazaki didn't write the story; he adapted it from Diana Wynne Jones' book of the same name and while a lot of the central plot, themes, relationships, and characters remain the same, much of the backstory (specifically Howl's) has been modified and/or excised completely. That's not necessarily a bad thing--the movie allows for the viewer to plug in details and foster their own hypothesis on what may or may not be the backstory. But missing that kind of context can lead to quite a bit of questions and gaps in the worldbuilding, if not the overall logic that sustains the story. The movie remains my personal favourite, but I'd highly recommend picking up the book (and its sequel!) if you have the chance. ^_^
Man I've been working on Merry Go Round on life for two months and you played it better than me in only an hour's worth of practice 😭😭😭 You are extremely skilled, jesus
As somebody whose favorite instrument to listen to is the piano although I cannot play it I love watching your 1m/10m/1h challenges. They're such a refreshing way to get to know the instrument and the pieces. 😊 My vote for a future challenge is: Maurice Ravel - Miroirs, No. 3 'Une Barque Sur L'océan'
My god, your perfomance is just so beautful, I wish I could play like you. I think that your work is amazing and I'm glad I have discovered such a good artist :)
I dont know if it’s just me but I found your way of playing it rlly different from how I usually hear it from others its kinda cool lol Also love the totoros
That was really interesting to see, and impressive how well you managed to play the first two and a half pages with just an hour of practise. I feel inspired to try the challenge myself!
so fascinating! especially interested in the harmonies part. i can see how that could help you hit the right bass notes, if you already recognize the patterns!
Hey i've never seen any Ghimli movies but i guess what it's like. This is very useful to observe how to learn music new score instead of listen to someone telling you what to do which is less effective. Especially i am always stunned by how huge your progress is from first reading to final performance like a different person, but that's inspire me to listen to you carefully.
Howls moving castle is the sum of ghibli's allegories about child vs mature and how they complement each other, its kind operatic, so if you introduce yourself about that scope of ghibli's philosophy and how miyazaki present that themes in his characters (with variations of the same, like gray hair shopie, child like drew ponyo and all her shape development back and forth eg.) ...that will act as an opera program given to you at the entry of ghibli's theater and opens your eyes to enjoy all what miyazaki wants to tell us....anyway I think that also the ages contribute with the enlightenment and understanding of miyazaki's allegories, by your life experiences related to simple be older and supposedly wiser ...like miyazaki.
So this piece has a sort of pop (jazz) waltz theme, and that's outside your comfort zone. You handled it perfectly, harmonically analyzing the parts which threw you, and it worked wonders!! Shout-out to music theory!! A lot of symphony orchestras do pop pieces as encores, especially after hours of heavy stuff. Maybe you could incorporate some pop elements like this piece, or at least a showy "rhapsody" based on it, into your programs.
Brilliant job! Really glad you decided to go for it, i love this piece of music. Definitely agree with you that Howl's Moving Castle was a weird movie. I think it's because it's based on a book (Howl's Moving Castle by Dianna Wynne Jones) that has a very British feeling to it. So you're a German person, watching a Japanese interpretation of a British book. Probably a lot of stuff that gets lost in translation! XD By the way, if you see this; will you possibly do a Christmas live-stream like last year?
Kyle landry's old video's motivated me to start playing the piano, he brings so much nostalgia to his music! Btw i love your challenges😂! Ps. I play sometimes on a Boston grand piano and must say they are so nice and easy to play.
Although I love all the Miyazaki films, Howl might be my favorite. It's like a dream. And how we look vs how we feel is a profound theme. And Sophie's capacity to love inspires...
Love this piece, your performance and the video so much! Always enjoying this type of challenge on your channel, hope to see more of it in the future :)
Hii, I'm from Brazil and although I can't understand your videos very well due to my level of proficiency in English... I think your speech teaching is excellent, in addition to playing the piano very well with lightness and movements that calm the mind just by looking at it, Congratulations!!!
Great piece, I love Owl's Moving Castle. I have made my own piano cover, not even close to yours, but still enjoyable. Thanks for this great video and the challenge!
Firstly, love the piano, the sound you make on it, and all the Ghibli movies and music I so really enjoyed hearing you play a little of it. Didn’t realise there was such a nice arrangement and now tempted to find a copy for myself ☺️ Thought you might also like to know that Ghibli is pronounced ‘jiburi’, with a soft j sound :)
i strongly suggest reading the book by Diana Wynne Jones. well, even the Howl's Moving Castle book is quite complicated. it's like mystery after mystery and the movie changed it quite a bit, too so it acquired an anti-war bent.
Can you do a full video :) I've been playing piano for 11 years now and I would love to hear you play it full length, (tbh I was actually thinking about playing this song lately lol) love your videos 💕

Well I've been having 8 years of piano lessons and I'm still struggling lol
Only professional pianists could do this... or an insanely gifted person with years of piano experience.
Sight-reading is not THEE problem why people can't play the piano. You can memorise the whole piece and still not have the hands to play it well.
Her sight reading is so good. She sights read bass and treble clef at the same time fast.
So happy that Kyle Landry is getting some love!
He has so arrangements which enhances the original piece. They're so beautiful!
Which version is the most popular? I love animenz version the most, but i wonder which version most people like
@@nhs.14 I like the first part of the Animenz version the most (when his right hand turns into a butterfly lol)
Would love to see you do a full version of this - really interested in your interpretation and your sound is so clean!
This was so beautifully played! You need to upload a full version, I'm sure everybody would love that!!
Kyle's arrangements have always been amazing. Good to see other music channels using the legend's work.
Kyle Landry arrangements have always terrified me too much to actually attempt them😂
Same hahaha but I've attempted a few of his Disney arrangements, even if I can't play them 100%. His arrangements are very difficult.
he sure loves his showy runs lol
Does anyone happen to have a link to said arrangement? Theyre a lil expensive
