Hi! I really loved this video as it really represents the stages a pianist (though it is condensed, of course) goes through as they practice! I would love to see a similar video except with Bortkiewicz Piano Concerto No. 1! Would that be at all possible? I love this concerto and have even played it myself but unfortunately Bortkiewicz is not very well known T_T. I feel like this would not only be a great opportunity to raise awareness about this composer but also be a chance for others (and perhaps yourself! haha :)) to explore new, enchanting, exciting music. Regardless, thank you so much for sharing this video!
lol that makes zero sense. She probably practiced piano thousends of houres in her life and only because of that she is now on a level where she can sight read and lern a lot faster because she is so trained at it. But she practiced her whole life for that skill. So the reason why she is able to play this good after just 10 minutes of practice is not because she hat the right practice thechniques (which she definetly has but this is not the reason) but because she dedicated her whole life to piano and practiced the skill for years.
Rachmaninoff's piano concerto no 2 has to be my absolute favorite concerto, and you also chose to do my favorite part out of the first movement! Absolutely magnificent as always!
YESSSSS!! My FAVOURITE piano piece of ALLLLLLLL TIME, THANKYOU FOR DOING THIS ANNIQUE! Also my favourite movement is one, there are very technically exciting parts, a poewrful base and very beautiful slow and melodic sections.
#Rach2 Rachmaninoff’s piano concerto no. 2 is one of my favorite pieces to this day, and also one of the first concertos that I consistently listened to over a long period of time. Jokingly, I always say with Rachmaninoff’s concertos that picking a favorite movement would be like picking a favorite child to me. But, if I had to pick a favorite in this moment, (stereotypical as it may sound) I would probably pick the 2nd movement. There’s just something about the sweeping melodies, and the flowing textures in contrast to what we’ve just heard in the first movement, and to what we’re about to hear in the third movement that’s just so refreshing! It feels like your coming out of a hard winter, and into the first weeks of spring! I love it!
Finally!! Annique playing Rach 2, I was expecting this moment so much :-) is amazing how well she can play such a piece like this in just 1h 11minutes... this is talent.
I played cello for this concerto last month, it was my first orchestra concert I ever played on cello. Difficult on cello, but the majority of the time I was focused on how outstanding the piano soloist was, and I fell in love with this concerto instantly. This is definitely my favorite piano concerto, and I’ll do anything to play it again one day on cello, when I have more experience as well haha 😂
I just discovered your channel and as I myself am still a struggling beginner at the piano, I found your "Hä" and "egal" during practice very relatable 😂 love your videos, will definitely subscribe!
#Rach2 my favourite movement would have to be the first, purely because of how desperate it is throughout. Though it's closely tied with the third for me because I love the grandness of the finale. Definitely one of my favourite concertos!
#Rach2 movement no.2 is my favourite. It has many hauntingly beautiful melodies that have enchanted me from the very beginning. The second concerto was also my introduction to the world of classical music!
OMG!!! You should absolutely, positively, don't even hesitate and think about it, perform this concerto for real! This is one of the most amazing pieces ever written, and I think you would do it brilliantly and beautifully!
It's to your everlasting credit that you didn't simply re-enact and re-record the first challenge, since you'd already spent over an hour practicing the piece. Instead you were honest and completely started over on another part of the concerto. I'm a big fan of your challenge videos that show us amateurs that even at your level, you don't just sit down and knock out these pieces first time. 🏆
#Rach2 My favourite movement changes with time, but recently it has become the 1st; the forward momentum and harmonies are exciting and highly captivating.
After for so long I saw this piece again! I remembered when my teacher was accompanying me when I slow down that he will play my part on his right while he plays the left hand accompaniment. Such a great teacher!
I love this concerto! I love Rachmaninoff. I'm not a great pianist, but one of my early pieces was Prelude in c# minor. The big chords were a bear, but the sound and rhythm of them contrasted with the smooth flowing melodies is what I so loved about it.
#Rach2 my favorite is the 3rd, and the ending specifically when the entire orchestra floods in on the same beat. The piano is so simple in this part, yet it is ethereal
#Rach2 is my favorite piece, so I love every movement pretty much equally, but I have a soft spot for the second since it's the first one I heard and I listened to it a bunch while I was listening to my favorite book, War and Peace, for the first time.
#Rach2 The third movement is my favorite. The second theme's melody is simply beautiful and passionate, evoking a heart-melting yet heartbreaking experience. The second time the piano plays the theme is so touching, and offers a more introspective and somewhat "deeper" rendition than that of the first time. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to listen to it live this year, and when the orchestra plays it for the last time it's just mwah! *chef's kiss*. I love the entire concerto, but for me, the third movement is just a bit more special than the others.
#Rach2 There isn't one specific highlight of this piece, rather its the culmination of all the movements that makes it so special. Rachmaninoff finally breaking through his depression in the final movement and expressing it in his music is so powerful. Love the videos cheers
#Rach2 As a pianist, the 3rd is such a stand out choice. It is such a tremendous piece of music, all round. For the pianist and the rest of the orchestra, it's brilliant! Incredibly pianistic, but never does it take away from the rest of the orchestra. It's so flawlessly balanced, and simply mind bogglingly impressive to watch. But personally, and as a music enjoyer, I have such a strong connection to the second movement. My god is it something else! It is the musical embodiment of so many emotions I feel and can't put in to words but want to share with others. This movement is part of why I continue to persue my musical passions, day after day. I too, want to be able to instil these emotions with my music - even if it's simply my musical interpretation of the greats' work, I will be delighted to play a role in such a tremendous part of the world. What it makes me feel is deep within. It's part of what shapes our cultures. It provides an understanding of something I can't describe with words. And you just can't get it anywhere else. Of course I love the entirety of the piano concerto. But the second movement is my favourite - it is truly special to me, and the third is a close second for the pianist inside me.
Great description. You're a true musical lover. At least 2 times a week I listen to Earl Wilds rendition of this piece.Still my favorite although Yuja Wangs ,Gulda'sand Luganskys is also great. What I relish about Rach 3 is the fact that it leaves no room room for compromise. You must play it as Boris Becker at matchpoint gegen at Wimbledon centrecourt. Sonst-haut ab.....
#Rach2 This is a piece where I can honestly say I love every second of. It’s so hard to pick one movement because they’re all so amazing. The intensity of Mvt1 and the flowing calm of Mvt2 give me levels of joy and ecstasy I can’t describe, but if I had to pick, Movement 3’s absolute catharsis as the culmination of everything exploding and coming to a glorious and triumphant end will have to take the cake.
I agree with every word! Well said. Rachmaninoff takes you on this amazing musical journey. At the end I'm spent from the wonderful musical experience.
This is among the greatest concertos ever written and I totally admire your attempt and what you've managed to achieve here. As for my favorites, there are too many to list, but a few: 1. Brahms 1+2 2. Mozart 9, 18, 20, 22, 24, 27 3. Beethoven 3 4. Ravel G And a weird one, but a totally favorite of mine: 5. Alkan Concerto for Piano Solo...
#Rach2 The movement No.2 is one of my favorite piece of all time. The first time i heard it i was so moved that i had to listen to it for the whole afternoon. I love the complexity of the sounds and I made myself the promise that I will keep playing piano until I can play my favorite part of the movement No.2
#Rach2 my favourite movement is definitely the 3rd, it starts of really flashy and 'angry' and to contrast it the second theme is gentle and its my favourite in the entire concerto. And the climax hits different.
#rach2 movement no.1 I started palying piano at 5 years old and quit at 16. at 18 I first heard it and it reignited my passion for the instrument. Ever since I have improved much, learning rachs prelude in g minor aswell as his transcription of kreislers liebesleid. would be fun trying to play the concierto
#Rach2 I can NOT decide, but recently, I've got overwhelmed by the 3rd movement, especially by the first theme that piano plays. I love how it's repeated 2 times, every time in diffrent, every time in more sublime and monumental way.
#Rach2 The 2nd movement is my favourite. It gives me so much comfort when I am down. And it lifts me up when I need consolation. Thank you for playing this
#rach2 i think the 2nd movement in general is extraordinary. there are some sections that are absolutely beautiful i think. but the 1st movement makes very well competition because it is so intense and cathartic
#Rach2 This is truly pne of the most moving piano concertos I've heared to date. I love how the first movement is building up so much tension and has these gorgeous calm moments...
#rach2 I am currently learning this piece and am in dire need of a physical score 😅 I actually kind of ignored this concerto for quite a long time, but when my friend forced me to sit down and listen to it i immediately fell in love with the profoundly beautiful melodies and harmonies, not to mention the story behind it. My favourite movement is the second, it speaks to my soul. So much so that I begged and pleaded to a couple pianist friends to play rach's romance for 6 hands with me (sounds a lot like the second movement of rach 2).
#Rach2 Love love LOVE this concerto because of the beautiful melodies and luscious harmonies! 2nd movt is my absolute fave! Am always moved (sometimes to tears) everytime I hear it, esp the coda!
#rach2 I like the second movement so much. It is my favorite piece. I used to go to the fields with my grandmother whilst listening to the second movement. As I little child I didn't understand it that well but now I can see that it was some manner of love. Now I go back to those fields while listening to this.
#Rach2 My favorite movement is the 2nd. You played so incredibly good that I got the urge to get off my phone and practice the piece on my piano. I must say, my head hurts from all the reading... You simply rock! LG Alex
#Rach2 I love this piece so much! Especially that brilliant part just before the end section of the first movement where it sounds like the piano is floating above the orchestra in octaves, it's such a unique harmony and texture for that part and its just beautiful
#Rach2. My favorite movement is the first movement, it was my introduction to Rachmaninoff, specifically the Khatia Buniatishvili recording. The movements piano line is unmatched in my opinion, absolutely my favorite piano concerto of all time. I love the way the piano trades the melody back and forth with the orchestra and the huge contrast found all throughout the piece, from Passionate and Fiery to soft and (still passionately) quiet. It is simply unmatched.
#Rach2 My favorite is the first movement. The main melody is so good under the piano “accompaniment” as well as variations of the melody make the movement a lot more epic.
#Rach2 I love the first and second movements, I'll never get sick of hearing the desperation in that first movement and all that sublimnity in the second. But there's just something about the third embodiment for me that never fails to amaze me, it's like I'm listening to it for the first time every time I hear it, especially that last 2 minutes, it's like an opening movie scene showing the great pyramids! Another amazing video! Can't expres how much I appreciate the content you make!
#Rach2 my favourite movement is definitely the first, the way he describes his depression is simply touching, almost as if he were asking the orchestra for help.
#Rach2 is my favourite piece of music. It is a really special piece for me even though I always cry when I hear it😂 I love Rachmaninoff and I have played some of his pieces. This Christmas I would ask the scores of the second piano concerto as a present. I love your videos, keep it going🙏😄🎶
#Rach2 my favorite will be the 3rd movement as it conclude the 1st and 2nd movement with a bang. I can enjoy every part and notes of the 3rd movement, which is quite rare for me to be able to enjoy all part of the composition.
#rach2 I’m listening to this piece for everyday since September. Before that’s I was not really in love with Rachmaninoff, but after I read book “Goodbye Russia” - Rachmaninoff in Exile, i have realized how great he was, the contribution to the classical music he brought is incalculable. Second movement is the most beautiful thing I’ve heard in my life, the emotions I feel listening to it are different every time. Climax is just the moment when my whole body feels goosebumps… Recently I had an opportunity to listen to 3rd piano concerto but it’s not as beautiful as second I wish I can play it one day!
It is a favourite of many. The seeping melodies of Russian composers is unbeatable. As for my favourite movement - I feel it is a package with each movement making it's own contribution and none really standing on it's own. Perhaps that a cop-out but the work is a master piece.
#Rach2 the first movement is what made me fall in love with Rachmaninoff ' music. It's just perfection to me, I can feel my heart beat with the notes !
Other piano concertos I'd love to see: -Rach 3 :)))) -other movements of Rach 2 -Tchaikovsky 1 (first or third movement) -Grieg (1. or 3. movements) -Schumann (1. movement) -Beethoven Emperor :)
#Rach2 1st mov. Of course I really love other movements too, but as listening again and again, feel like I'm understanding deeper how and why the 1st movement's melodies have set up like that. Everytime I listen to this concerto, it feels something different. It's like a maturing wine. :)
#rach 2 my fav movement is the 2nd, it’s ending is the most angelic thing I’ve ever heard. (I’ve been waiting for another Rachmaninov piece! Love it!!!)
#Rach2 the orchestral intro in the first movement sounds like the winter wind blowing over a steppe, but my favourite parte is the clarinet solo in the 2nd movement, which might be one of the most beautiful melodies I’ve ever heard.
#Rach2 my favorite movement is the the second. Specially after the reapresentation of the first theme. For me is like angels with crowns of flowers, dancing and showing the power of the pure love.
#Rach2 Movement 3 is by far my favourite because I love the march near the climax and how the orchestra interweaves with the soloist. The last movement is also so inspiring and triumphant and always gives me that 'ahh' moment every time I listen to it. The concerto was also my first proper introduction into classical music and really got me hooked.
#rach2 second movement is my favorite and also the reason rach2 is my favorite piano concerto. I think the big climax near the end of the second movement is one of the most beautiful sections in all of piano repertoire
#Rach2 I really like the third movement of the concerto because of the heroic, grandiose themes. It just stands out to me and really makes me feel more upbeat and excited about anything in my life.
the way you say his name its so beautiful! i never knew the pronunciation of it before lol and i didnt know the other part that you were playing but it's so so good to listen to it !!
Hi Annique! I am a contemporary musician (keyboardist) from East Malaysia! But I never been taught/trained in classical way. I am struggling finding my way to train my own self in classical pieces. after watching this video of Piano Concert No.2. and I listened the original as well, I would say, it's my favourite currently! Especially that Adagio Sostenuto, 2nd movement! for me, It has a very unique & special character of a Bright & Dark element altogether yet with strong catch. what a masterpiece. 🤯 By the way, your channel has boost me up & encourage me to do more in learning & studying classical music ! So here's the hashtag of trying my luck to win 🙏🏼🥹#RACH2 !
#Rach2 If I had to choose, it would be the 2nd mvt because even when you listen to it for the 1st time, it feels like these melodies have always been in your head waiting for this particular moment to resurface. truly perfect
#Rach2 ... I really like the first two movements a lot; but I think I'd chose the second movement. I has to do with the deep and sensitive feelings this movement take us through. It's my long term goal to be able to perform this masterpiece. It's such a joy to se/hear how far You can reach in just one hour. Well done AG, well done :-)
#Rach2 My preferite movement is the second: adagio sostenuto. That's the simbolo of eternal, inconditional love. Rachmaninoff wrote it after a period of hard depression, and i found incredibly beautiful what he could compose so lovely after so much problems.
This video took me so much longer then expected 😅 Don't forget the giveaway - and also my upcoming concert in Leipzig! Tickets & info here: www.gewandhausorchester.de/veranstaltung/klavierabend-annique-goettler-8375/
I wish so much that I could be there! I love Leipzig and the Gewandhaus. Will there be a recording? ❤
You should try 1 min 10 min 1 hr challenge with Bartok 2. Very difficult
wheres the full unravel cover!
Where is the winner announced? I cannot find it here or in IG...thanks!
I listened to endless “perfect” recordings of this concerto. Hearing it getting butchered only emphasizes its difficulty. I like it👍👌
As a PianoPracticeDiary fan I can confirm it is true.
Im a habitual listernal to Ana Federovas performance of this concerto
Lugansky and Kissin the best.
Impressive how much one can achieve in 10 minutes with the right practice techniques
lol that makes zero sense. Somehow the editing changed drastically. I like it👍
#Rach2
Rachmaninoff’s piano concerto no. 2 is one of my favorite pieces to this day, and also one of the first concertos that I consistently listened to over a long period of time.

#Rach2 I will go with the 2nd movement, that ending is sublime

Same!
@@jacoponava3544yeah, it was one of my first more hard core pieces.
Bravissimo, this was amazing! Love the 2nd concerto, but the 3rd is my favourite. It's simply on another level and blows me away every time.
Same here
rachmaninoff was something else man..
oh wow! this concerto is a beast, rachman uses some of the most unique styles. Good job!
OMG!!! You should absolutely, positively, don't even hesitate and think about it, perform this concerto for real! This is one of the most amazing pieces ever written, and I think you would do it brilliantly and beautifully!

#Rach2 my favorite movement is the second. So it sounds just insane and it motivates me a lot to play. I love yout videos. Please continue. 👍🏻
I am the happiest person in the world with this video!!!!😍😍😍💙💙💙💙
#Rach2 The third movement is my favorite. The second theme's melody is simply beautiful and passionate, evoking a heart-melting yet heartbreaking experience. The overall quality of this challenge is great. The lighting and sound quality are so good! The new setup is great!
your videos are improving a lot!!! spotlight for editions, they are amazing
The introduction of your videos became so much better than a year ago. Great work!
Ich liebe wie die Qualitaet und humor immer besser werden, immer mehr sound effects und memes und so, grosser lob
#Rach2 . My favourite movements is first and second. I can’t decide which better, because they both very atmospheric and both has own pretty melody.
This was great - love the inserts of you talking about mechanics
This is among the greatest concertos ever written and I totally admire your attempt and what you've managed to achieve here.
As for my favorites, there are too many to list, but a few:
1. Brahms 1+2
2. Mozart 9, 18, 20, 22, 24, 27
3. Beethoven 3
4. Ravel G
And a weird one, but a totally favorite of mine:
5. Alkan Concerto for Piano Solo...
#Rach2 The movement No.2 is one of my favorite piece of all time. The first time i heard it i was so moved that i had to listen to it for the whole afternoon. I love the complexity of the sounds and I made myself the promise that I will keep playing piano until I can play my favorite part of the movement No.2
#Rach2 movement number 2 is my favourite, I love the beautiful melody which stems from the main theme. Incredible playing!!
#Rach2 movement no.2 is my favourite It has many beautiful modes, from stages to insane! I just absolutely love it
#Rach2 The second movement, because of the swell at the end, where the strings come in and the piano plays chords
#Rach2 my favourite movement is definitely the 3rd, it starts of really flashy and 'angry' and to contrast it the second theme is gentle and its my favourite in the entire concerto. And the climax hits different.

My favourite movement in #Rach2 ist the first one. I‘ve never seen such beautiful melodies with such interesting and fascinating accompagnatos.
#Rach2 of course the 2nd movement. Nothing is more beautiful than this piece of music
#rach2 i think the 2nd movement in general is extraordinary. there are some sections that are absolutely beautiful i think. but the 1st movement makes very well competition because it is so intense and cathartic

bruh your sight reading is like my 2 weeks of practice
#Rach2
My favorite movement is the 2nd.
You played so incredibly good that I got the urge to get off my phone and practice the piece on my piano.
I must say, my head hurts from all the reading... You simply rock!

Hard to think someone can play this little excerpt in 1 hr practise. Very well done!❤ always fun to watch your videos with my kids 😊
#Rach2
UUUUNND du bist einfach fantastisch, cooles editing übrigens
You’ll become a world famous pianist, I’m shure
#Rach 2 my favourite movement is the 1st movement because of the despairing moments that convey what Rachmaninov was enduring at the time!
#Rach2 my favourite movement is the second one due to its beautiful piano solo passages and the perfect combination between harmonies.
I've been waiting for this one for a long time!!
Climax is just the moment when my whole body feels goosebumps…
Recently I had an opportunity to listen to 3rd piano concerto but it’s not as beautiful as second
I wish I can play it one day!
Other piano concertos I'd love to see:
-Rach 3 :))))
-other movements of Rach 2
-Tchaikovsky 1 (first or third movement)
-Grieg (1. or 3. movements)
-Schumann (1. movement)
-Beethoven Emperor
:)
Love it!!!)
#Rach 2
My favorite part is the second part ❤ for me it’s very nice to play! The melodies and the harmonies are phenomenal!
It´s a delight to hear this concerto. My favorite.
#Rach2 Second Movement. I dearly love the polyrhythm throughout and the melody is heart-wrenching.
#Rach2 The first one because it is the most dense, dramatique and dynamic movement. The begining cords are amaizing.
#rach2 second movement is my favorite and also the reason rach2 is my favorite piano concerto. I think the big climax near the end of the second movement is one of the most beautiful sections in all of piano repertoire
Great video!!!! My favourite is the second movement
#Rach2 The third movement (Allegro Scherzando) is my favourite - it's classic Rach with its recapitulations, its sense of adventure and pure fantasy.
#Rach2 movement 1 has always been my favourite. Loved this video so much 🥰
#rach2 my favourite has to be 3rd mvt. and especially the coda.
#Rach2 It’s my favorite piano concerto. I think it’s beautiful how it depicts an artists journey, nice video :)
By the way, your channel has boost me up & encourage me to do more in learning & studying classical music !
#Rach2 No.2 in C Minor, Op.18 I. Moderato. it is simply perfect
#Rach2 eigentlich die 3. Doch der erste Satz startet so schön und hat so viele Änderungen drinnen.
#Rach2 movement 1 is still my favourite, absolutely beautiful and very iconic. My favourite Rachmaninoff concerto :)
#RACH2 Personally my favorite movement is the 2nd one, such a potion of melancholy and hope, I think it depicts perfectly human emotions
#Rach2 My preferite movement is the second: adagio sostenuto. That's the simbolo of eternal, inconditional love. Rachmaninoff wrote it after a period of hard depression, and i found incredibly beautiful what he could compose so lovely after so much problems.
