I’m about to order of of these Juki models and I’ve been watching all the videos I can’t find in preparation for it. Yours is by far, the best tutorial with the clearest instructions and detailed descriptions I’ve come across! Thank you ma’am! 😊
I just bought a used machine and I am very thankful for the instructions and vital information you shared. I am looking forward to making this machine a part of my quilting business. Thank you so much.
This is probably one of the best videos on the DDL8700! I've watched other videos and they were incorrect compared to your instruction! First, the store I bought my machine from told me that I never had to oil my machine, but just keep the pan filled and it will run forever. Watching your video, I realized I've got to get some oil and get busy oiling other parts. Second, I was having issues with my tension and the thread on the bottom was "railroading". As soon as I was done watching the your video through the tension part, I immediately went to my machine made some adjustments and BAM, all fixed!!!! I can't even tell you how excited and happy I am to have found your little channel! I've already subscribed and look forward to watching other videos. Thank you so very much from the USA!
She’s actually doing that part wrong, probably due to experience with other machines. This machine has an oil pump so that it automatically oils all of the moving parts, not just the ones at the bottom. It’s a little funny as you can actually see little tubes going directly to the areas she’s wasting time oiling that carry oil there automatically. As she says in the video, over oiling can be just as bad as under oiling so I wouldn’t recommend adding any oil yourself the way she does in this video unless you personally know your oil pump has stopped working.
@@Bd3849. Hi after reading your message, I have been and looked over my machine very thoroughly, yes there is one single tube that goes up to the top of the machine and I would like to thank you for bringing this to my attention, I don’t know how I missed that , there is nothing at all that oils the parts underneath the needle plate, I have had my machine for many years and touch wood had no major issues, I would still recommend oiling all the parts that I point out in the video because you can not see exactly where the tubes goes to X

Hi It could very well be that your thread it not strong enough, take it off your machine and hold in both hands and pull from both sides if it snaps it’s your thread that is causing the problem, hope this helps.
I just bought a Juki 5550 and I adore it. I did some work on the belt because it was sooooooo tight. The handwheel can be moved by hand now whereas before it couldn't. I did notice tho that while the stitch is good it seems a touch looser now. Should I move the belt back to where it was?
No the stitch is nothing to do with the belt , firstly check that the machine is threaded correctly on top and underneath in the bobbin case , if the tension is loose on top as you sew then you need to tighten the screw on the bobbin case if the tension is loose underneath as your sewing then you need to tighten the upper tension disc , just remember always opposite so tension problem when the threading is all correct when the problem is on top it’s the tension underneath and when the problem is underneath then it’s the tension on top to adjust x

Thank you for this tutorial. Since little info came with the machine it answered a lot of my questions. I am having problems with the fabric puckering,,esp. when its cotton fabric I use for piecing. I have the machine in great tension for adding the binding to my quilts,,,but am afraid to loosen it anymore. Is it the tension or the pressor foot the problem
Hi Lena Technically it could be both , but have you tried taking some tension off your foot because you are working with think fabric , if you haven’t try this.
@@TinaBambina I did loosen it quite a few turns and can see a difference without losing the good results when I sew the thicker bindings. Thanks again for your help. I love this machine.
Hi love ur videos just need a little help, how do I adjust the speed of the machine, bought the machine a year ago and never touched it coz of the speed please help, there is a small box it say P and some numbers ❤
Hello, Which oil do you use for your Juki? Do I have to use the Juki Defrix No. 1 or can I use other oil made for industrial sewing machines like juki? Thanks for your answer!
Hi I enjoyed watching ur video, u have explained everything so clearly, I bought this machine from Amazon just few days ago but to my surprise it did not come with a manual plus the bobbin winder is wobbly as hell, I just wanted to ask you b4 contacting the seller and Amazon, seller is London sewing machine centre it cost me £600, I would be ever so grateful if you could reply thanks!!
Hi ok there’s two screws on the piece you push forward for the bobbin to be pushed into place to start it filling ,check that these are tight first then check the long bottom bar that runs the full length of the side of the machine that sits underneath where the cotton runs before been wound onto the bobbin that all those screws are fully tighten if they are then you will need to contact the seller if it is still loose , hope this helps x
I have an 8700 and it is a great machine. My question is when sewing with heavy polyester tread, large needle, and sunbrella canvas. My bobin adjust is very loose and the top tension is very very tight to get an "OK" stitch. The ultimate goal is to have upper and lower stitch look the same. I read that the bracket just above the upper tensioner can be moved left or right for heavier thread. Do you know what is actually happening when moving that to either side?
Hi Mike I have never had to move mine , but I also use heavy polyester thread and I don’t change my tension much on top or underneath and the stitch is fine.
Hi Tina, I am in the USA. Your video is lovely. I do have a question about the needles which I haven't found an answer to. My juki is the DDL-227 (It's older). I just purchased it pre owned. The Manual says to use needles with the designation DB X 1 (231) . When serching to purchase them, all I see are ones which are DB X 1 (257) . Question is are these interchangeable or should I continue looking for the 231 needles? Thank you.
I’ve been thinking of buying this exact machine so I appreciate the tutorial. I see a lot of light leather and boat canvas. How do you think it would handle these types of material? Any advise would help.
Hi It would sew light leather easily it does struggle with very heavy fabric , I once put a new zip in a padded gilet and the needle Broke and bent the needle plate at the same time , I do love my machine and I did try to get a walking foot for it but you can not get them for this model, so I would recommend getting a juki but a model that you can get a walking foot for, it will make some jobs a lot easier.
@@TinaBambina thank you. I will search for another. I need a walking foot for sure and see through 2-4oz veg tan leather regularly. You saved me to e and money and for that I am grateful.
Hi Doreen if you read the reply I put on glo post that’s on needles and as for cottons I use 120 cottons mostly , but I also use the thick super strong cotton and others I also use a lot of small reel cottons and don’t have a problem, the juki can use most threads and sews with ease hope this helps you
Hi Doreen my manual states the needle to be use are DB X 1”14 and select a proper needle size according to the count of thread and type of material used, now I have to be honest I use a 100 for most of my sewing and only really change it if I’m using satin chiffon or silk
Hello there. Very glad I found your video. Thank you so much.. is this machine of your made in Japan? Is it possible to do free motion quilting with this machine? Please help...
Hi yes It’s made in Japan the household units are made in China, you could do free hand quilting on any machine , because you are guiding it so yes you can do it in this machine X
Thank you so much for replying.. could you elaborate more on it? I mean can we lower the feeddogs in this machine in order to do free motion quilting? If so how to do lower it? And can we reduce the speed of this machine? Hopefully waiting for your response...
@@Chantillyandchocolate ah no the teeth dogs can not be lowered , there is a way to adjust the speed but I don’t know how to do that , there is something underneath the machine that you adjust but I have never had to do mine .
Oh is that so? But have you tried turning the stitch length to 0 so that the feedogs go down? I saw one of the youtube video showing it. But that machines "juki" logo was on the side even though the model was DDL 8700. It was possible to lower the feeddogs and do free motion quilting. Please could you help me with this doubt? It would be very grateful.. May God bless you..

Hi Amy If you have a new machine the knee lift does loosen over time , if it’s not new if you look under your machine and follow the knee lift bar there is a nut bolt that can be loosen , you can try this if you want it loosening off .
hello OK Tina bambina one last question?last week I asked if you would film do some sewing while you still have the hair in pin curls in your hair, I know this may seem unusual for a request but all over the world and here in the United States of America many women do sew at home while they have there hair in rollers or pin curls please kindly let me know when you get a chance OK?thank you very much
Hello there, may I know what will happen if accidentally got the oil on the belt while trying to lubricate the side area? Do I need to change to a new belt?
Hi No you won’t need a new belt, get some kitchen roll and keep pressing it into the belt to get it off, this will leave you with a tiny trace on and hopefully this will be fine x
@@lindahoffman8296 no not necessarily, the prong on the machine that hold the bobbin on could be slightly different widths with the spacing if that make sense , so some seem tight and some seem loose .
@@TinaBambina thank you! my juki is making squeekie sound, i think it could be cause i never oiled the holes 😬 i just knew about the oil in pocket and not about the holes... hopefully machine will recover..
I have a question I have this exact model and when I press down on the peddle and I hear the machine about to sew it sounds like the motor is breathing a bit harder then im use to. It sounds similar to a generator but not nearly as loud, if the machine is sewing I cant hear it but when im sewing really slow and I can watch needle move slowly I can hear it clearly. Should this be something to be concerned about?
Hi Obviously our models are the older ones and are noisy machines to start off with, these machines are work horses and are made to last, my machine has had a slightly different noise of late , I’ve gave it a good once over and I think it’s still a bit noisier but I’m not to concerned about it , it is working fine and still doing a great job , you can get new motors for the machine if you are quite concerned about the noise , the new ones are quite but to be fair the noise does not bother me.
@@TinaBambina ok thank you! The noise doesnt bother me at all I just wanted to make sure I was safe to sew on it. My classroom has really old models I’ll pay attention and see if I hear the same noice. I might’ve been hearing it the entire time but couldn’t tell till I was just in my own bedroom with it.

First make sure that the lead is fully plugged into the machine ,some time certain machines have in the hand turn wheel where you turn to put the needle either up or down make sure if your machine has this that it has been tighten if it’s loose then it won’t sew, check your manual for any other problems that may cause your machine not to work some times there also a button that you can press that will put your machine in a mode where the machine won’t run. Because you maybe doing some thing to your machine where you need it to be still I hope this helps let me know how you get on , if the machine is brand new it will be under warranty if you can’t get it to work if it second hand the plug may need a new fuse x

@@TinaBambina Thanks so much!!!

Tina Bambina I adored this video
Please help: my Juki stuck, can’t move the wheel. I just oiled as your directions but still stuck.
@@patriciamirgorod313 hi Patricia you don’t oil the wheel just the bit you push forward to fill the bobbins check to see if any cotton has got wound any where that it shouldn’t be in the wheel area this can cause it to not move .
@@TinaBambina thank you Tina Bambina. The Needle Bar is surrounded of “cotton dust” if you look inside the machine; don’t know if it is part of the machine or do I have to remove it.

hello Tina bambina very nice lady it sounds like you have the basic clutch motor not the more expensive servo motor, do you plan on getting upgrading to the more expensive servo motor, it's much more quite and it has speed control to run operate the sewing machine faster or slow it down?please kindly let me know OK?thank you very much
No I don’t have any plans to change the motor , I don’t mind the noise , I’m just used to it .
Great video thank you ❤
Thank you for this tutorial.
Hi Lena
Technically it could be both , but have you tried taking some tension off your foot because you are working with think fabric , if you haven’t try this.
@@TinaBambina I will try that next, it does seem to be quite a lot of pressure exerted on the fabric.
@@lenadrzewiczewski8134 just slacken it off quite a bit hopefully that will sort the problem out.

Which of these two sewing machines is better? Juki DDL 8700 or Juki DDL 5530
Thank you for this video. Can you use magnetic bobbins?
Hi Lucy
I have never used magnetic ones and personally wouldn’t recommend using them ,
Hello,
Which oil do you use for your Juki? Do I have to use the Juki Defrix No. 1 or can I use other oil made for industrial sewing machines like juki?
Thanks for your answer!
Hi
I use gp sewing oil by Rock oil
Great video
Thanks washing u from Ghana
Hi that’s so cool ❤️
Hi Tina, I am in the USA. Your video is lovely. I do have a question about the needles which I haven't found an answer to. My juki is the DDL-227 (It's older). I just purchased it pre owned. The Manual says to use needles with the designation DB X 1 (231) . When serching to purchase them, all I see are ones which are DB X 1 (257) . Question is are these interchangeable or should I continue looking for the 231 needles? Thank you.
Hi I bought my needles on line from Orange Needles they are DB X 1 16 x 231/257
1738 so these would be perfect for you hope this helps xx
I’ve been thinking of buying this exact machine so I appreciate the tutorial. I see a lot of light leather and boat canvas. How do you think it would handle these types of material? Any advise would help.
Hi
It would sew light leather easily it does struggle with very heavy fabric , I once put a new zip in a padded gilet and the needle Broke and bent the needle plate at the same time , I do love my machine and I did try to get a walking foot for it but you can not get them for this model, so I would recommend getting a juki but a model that you can get a walking foot for, it will make some jobs a lot easier.
@@TinaBambina thank you. I will search for another. I need a walking foot for sure and see through 2-4oz veg tan leather regularly. You saved me to e and money and for that I am grateful.

@@TinaBambina can you please share where you got your measuring tape that u place on your sewing machine ?? please if you dont mind ?
@@DKSTYLE4.22
Hi Kwanie
The measuring tape that you see on the machine table is drawn on the table it’s self that’s how it came.
Thank you Tina
Hello tins do you have any information about needles and threads etc thanks
Doreen
Hi Doreen if you read the reply I put on glo post that’s on needles and as for cottons I use 120 cottons mostly , but I also use the thick super strong cotton and others I also use a lot of small reel cottons and don’t have a problem, the juki can use most threads and sews with ease hope this helps you
Hi Doreen my manual states the needle to be use are DB X 1”14 and select a proper needle size according to the count of thread and type of material used, now I have to be honest I use a 100 for most of my sewing and only really change it if I’m using satin chiffon or silk
Hello Doreen.i'm also Doreen.😊😊
Hello there. Very glad I found your video. Thank you so much.. is this machine of your made in Japan? Is it possible to do free motion quilting with this machine? Please help...
Hi yes
It’s made in Japan the household units are made in China, you could do free hand quilting on any machine , because you are guiding it so yes you can do it in this machine X

I would never have my machine on that because I don’t do quilting all you can do is try for yourself zainab , don’t be afraid of your machine get used to it and have a play about
ok no problem I just wanted to make sure you are comfortable filming such a request as it seems a little unusual OK?thank you very much
Hi, just found your video and it's helped so much, thank you!! I have the Juki DDL 8100e but lower and raising my foot pedal seems really stiff, plus my knee lift doesn't seem to work unless my foot is lowered and then it will work fine. Do you have any tips on loosening this please? :)
Hi Amy
If you have a new machine the knee lift does loosen over time , if it’s not new if you look under your machine and follow the knee lift bar there is a nut bolt that can be loosen , you can try this if you want it loosening off .
You can also move the knee plate up or down it’s adjustable.
@@TinaBambina thank you for getting back to me. I will try that :) 😊

Hi just wanted to know the size of the bobbin for Juki 8700 coz I need to order few more thanks 🙏

Thank you so much, I have another question for u 🫣 my bobbin winder does not spin hence I can't wind thread, I am doing it by hand😢 please help
I never oiled those places on my machine before. OMG I have a Servo motor on my machine. I forgot how noisy the original motors are.

hello OK Tina bambina one last question?last week I asked if you would film do some sewing while you still have the hair in pin curls in your hair, I know this may seem unusual for a request but all over the world and here in the United States of America many women do sew at home while they have there hair in rollers or pin curls please kindly let me know when you get a chance OK?thank you very much

Good god, lady, I love you!
Hello there, may I know what will happen if accidentally got the oil on the belt while trying to lubricate the side area? Do I need to change to a new belt?
Hi
No you won’t need a new belt, get some kitchen roll and keep pressing it into the belt to get it off, this will leave you with a tiny trace on and hopefully this will be fine x
@@TinaBambina All right, I'm going to give it a try. Thanks! :)

When the bobbin doesn't wind it means you've got the wrong type of bobbin for your machine. Or am I wrong?
@@lindahoffman8296 no not necessarily, the prong on the machine that hold the bobbin on could be slightly different widths with the spacing if that make sense , so some seem tight and some seem loose .
Yes, that makes sense. Thanks for your reply.
hello! thanks for the video! do you use same lubricating oil to oil the holes as u use in the oil pocket of the machine or is it different oil?
Hi lilu
It’s the same oil for all parts top and bottom x
Yes one type of oil the same bottle.

@@TinaBambina haha ok!! by the way I have a juki DDL 8300 N so the oiling is same as your machine right?
I have a question I have this exact model and when I press down on the peddle and I hear the machine about to sew it sounds like the motor is breathing a bit harder then im use to. It sounds similar to a generator but not nearly as loud, if the machine is sewing I cant hear it but when im sewing really slow and I can watch needle move slowly I can hear it clearly. Should this be something to be concerned about?
Hi
Obviously our models are the older ones and are noisy machines to start off with, these machines are work horses and are made to last, my machine has had a slightly different noise of late , I’ve gave it a good once over and I think it’s still a bit noisier but I’m not to concerned about it , it is working fine and still doing a great job , you can get new motors for the machine if you are quite concerned about the noise , the new ones are quite but to be fair the noise does not bother me.
Random update: I replaced the oil inside and followed your steps and now it makes even less noise THANK YOU AGAIN!
Can quilting be sewn with this machine? Please let me know.

Yes the same oil in the pan as oiling the rest of the machine .
I have a new junki sewing machine get it for my birthday for some reason I I can’t get it to sew can u help me
First make sure that the lead is fully plugged into the machine ,some time certain machines have in the hand turn wheel where you turn to put the needle either up or down make sure if your machine has this that it has been tighten if it’s loose then it won’t sew, check your manual for any other problems that may cause your machine not to work some times there also a button that you can press that will put your machine in a mode where the machine won’t run. Because you maybe doing some thing to your machine where you need it to be still I hope this helps let me know how you get on , if the machine is brand new it will be under warranty if you can’t get it to work if it second hand the plug may need a new fuse x

Hi frank
I’m doing a video on the juki hopefully on the weekend so should be out shortly , I will try and remember to add how the foot pedal works.
Frank if you look at my video what size needle to use on the juki, at the end I do show you how the foot pedal works .
Please ,mi maquina rompe el hilo, que puedo hacer?
Two things your tension is too tight so loosen this off or your cotton is old and will keep snapping , hold the thread with both hands and if it snaps easily throw it away because it’s probably old and weak.
my juki makes no noise i probably have a new one
She has a clutch motor which is an older motor. The new ones have a servo motor which are much, much quieter
But why is the name
Written at the middle and not the side
Only the designer can tell you that , probably because it would look plain if it wasn’t there maybe
Fucos please the video
