Changing ugly poppers out for vintage buttons.
In this video I remove some poppers off a coat I have, one because they look ugly and two some of them didn't press together, this was done by hand sewing the buttons and loops in place. I picked up some vintage buttons a while ago and this was a perfect project to use them on.

Can't wait to go to the store and buy thread. When the salesperson asks size I'll say thick and thin. Any color. Any brand. Thanks for the helpful info I spent 10 minutes to get.... I now know the tread range for the juki 8700.
Literally had this idea yesterday for a very similar coat!
Cant wait t9 see the finished products 😮❤

Aww Tina they look so nice 😊😂
Turned out great, I love it! :)
Great instructions. I know there was so many points to oil
Nice redo. This would look so nice with black skinny pants underneath worn with boots and a long chunky silver necklace or silky scarf.
Absolutely brilliant
If you have an industrial supplier you can get an upgraded motor that doesn't make that sound. That's an old clutch motor and uses a lot of electricity since it's always running. I paid for a servo motor and it's awesome.
For anyone wanting an easier way to do bobbin tension get a towa bobbin thread tension gauge "L" style. I set mine to 200 and always perfect. I also use different cases for different tex threads
My manual says nothing about manually oiling. The oil pump and the wicks cover all the oiling. Says after no use or first setup run at 3000rpm for 10 minutes ensuring there's oil splashing in the window on top to fully oil the machine There are adjustments for the hook areas amount of oil it gives, and the entire top end is oiled as well by the automatic oiler. My mechanic said if you haven't used it in a while, remove all thread from the machine and run the machine for 10 minutes at 3000 sti/min for some minutes (manual says 10 min) and the entire machine is oiled. I'm not sure if all this extra oiling is necessary and may hurt the machine. Just an FYI Also make sure you are using defrix 1 or comparible oil. Not sure the oil in her bottle but it should be completely clear and non wax oil
@@2010stoof I am not a mechanic by any means, but I do have a fair bit of experience on a wide range of industrial machines on how they work and how to maintain them. If you have the Juki DDL 8700 and take a good look at the machine you will see that the oil pump won’t reach all the moving compartments especially in the area around where the spool bobbin fits, the oil I am using is correct for my machine as for the oil been clear this must be a fairly new one I have used sewing machines for many many year and the oil has always had a colour to it, as far as oiling a machine hurting the machine only heavily over oiling will do harm. My machine I have had for over ten years now and is used all the time , have I had any real problems no , if you look after your machine it will last for many many years to come.
@TinaBambina page 3 and 4 in my manual show how to adjust oil amount to the top of the head and to the hook area 🤷🏻♂️ My mechanic said that every part of the internals is oiled by the pump system and the wicks that fall into the oil. He said I should never have to oil it manually besides when he did a little when it was brand new. Just need to run it at 3000 sti/min for a while to get oil flowed everywhere. He said that the glass bubble at the top of the machine seeing splashes is how you know you're getting oil to the top end and bar area when running at 3000. If you download the 8700 manual look at page 3 and 4. Maybe you need to adjust the top end and hook area adjustments if your machine isn't getting oil there. It tells you how to adjust and check the amount of oil. A piece of paper below the hook/bobbin area will tell you if you need adjustment it's easy to do. Warm machine up by running for 3 minutes. Then put paper under there and run for 5 seconds and the spray line width will tell you if you are getting enough oil to the hook/ bobbin area.
@TinaBambina I'm not saying you're wrong just putting the information out there. I still will put a drop or 2 on the bar since it's the last place to get oil when doing the running in after not used for a while. But if you use it at least once a week and get the rpms up like when wondering a bobbin or fast long stitch he said you don't really need to do the 3000 stitches thing that's only if the machine say for a long time. He told me not to oil it. It was the first thing I asked about since I was coming from an old singer that I needed to oil in 11 spots every so often. Again I'm not trying to argue. Just passing along what I was told. He worked at Ford in their upholstery factory servicing all their machines before retiring and now repairing machines for consumers. @@TinaBambina I do appreciate the video. And definitely recommend the towa thread tension style L for this machine especially if you haven't had a lot of experience setting bobbin tension. Takes the guesswork out of it.
@ Thank you for that in information, I can see oil spurting up in the glass bubble at the top of the machine, when I was a training instructor many years ago I had two mechanics teaching me how to maintain machines and this extra oiling was taught to me , I stay with that same process and believe that my machine runs better for it , I don’t always do what a book says but it suits me how I look after my machine and it’s never let me down.
@@2010stoof I was taught decades ago so it’s fair that today’s mechanics know more , but I am old school .

Thanks this is great! It means I can have a frill but still wear my fave brand of socks 🙏🏻
I feel like you have not explained the wick system, the oil pump, the oil viewing window, the bypass plate. I cannot see any oil coming up in the viewing window. I don't know if my bypass plate should be more open or more closed to remedy this.
I ❤ that it is a lightweight bag and can be kept in a handbag too 😊. And to have a pocket so I don’t have to dig around for my keys is great too 🎉.

how to wind the bobbin without the needle bar running.
Super job 👏
Thank you so much. Your video is very helpful! I just got a elna 686 serger from marketplace and there is no manual I can find. Your video just saved me😊 I just notice my machine is missing the moving blade, no screw. Is there any replacement I can get?
@@annalee2155 Hi I don’t think you will be able to buy a replacement screw from the manufacturer, one of my screws from the needle place broke in two pieces and I couldn’t get one, jut what I did was went through a box of screws i had , it wasn’t a perfect replacement but it did the job, you could go into a hardware store with your machine and ask if they have a screw that would do the job X
@TinaBambina Thanks for the advice. I'll see if I have any screw that can fit into.
Love it Tina🎉 Gorgeous😊

@@mollie4697 Hi mollie Thank you ❤️
When the bobbin doesn't wind it means you've got the wrong type of bobbin for your machine. Or am I wrong?
@@lindahoffman8296 no not necessarily, the prong on the machine that hold the bobbin on could be slightly different widths with the spacing if that make sense , so some seem tight and some seem loose .
Yes, that makes sense. Thanks for your reply.
So cute! Great job!
A great day really enjoyed it 😊 xx
