Definitely agree. The sequel is one of the few exceptions where every aspect of the movie, including character development, was done very well. I'm sure Holden and Jen will really like the sequel.
I would like to be excited about the sequel reaction, but (for my personal tastes), I'm not excited when they do reactions with Matt. I don't know him, so I'm not passing a judgment on him as a person, but it feels like he goes into movies with a "You can TRY to impress me, but you'll fail" attitude. Maverick is a shallow self-absorbed, arrogant, narcissist who has a problem with authority and difficulty in social situations with basically one friend who keeps him balanced. It deals with the psychological impact of someone losing their only meaningful relationship. Iceman is the foil to Maverick but that means he is the opposite of narcissistic and self-absorbed. Maverick gets chewed out and in trouble in almost every scene of the movie; it is to represent his problem with authority despite being in the military. You have come to expect some ideal protagonist. A set of values that the main character will come to embody by the end. This movie represents that is not reality. Reality is flawed people become less flawed....not nearly perfect people become perfect.
Based off everything Jen said after the movie, she's going to love Top Gun : Maverick. I think the filmmakers purposefully subverted the audience's expectations with Iceman. They want us to think he's going to be the unlikable rival in the beginning. But he's basically Maverick's conscience throughout the movie.
You guys are gonna love the second one. Just remember when watching the second one, it was released over 30 years afterwards the original which really pulls our nostalgia strings. Beautifully done.
Jenn, You have to remember, Maverick was considered a black sheep in the Navy because of what happened in the mission when his father died. He gets a chip on his shoulder and felt he had to go to the next level to prove that not only he was a great pilot, but that his father was as well.

I don't think any film has a more iconic beginning than this. The slow build of the music and the environment is just so good. I loved how they bring it back in #2.
Growing up in the 1980s like I did, you don't skip out on what this film meant to the culture. It was in limited re-release for IMAX theatres only in 2013. I saw it for the first time and enjoyed it. At that time, that's when the sequel was starting to take shape. RIP to Clarence Gilyard as LTJG Marcus "Sundown" Williams.
I watched Top Gun all the time as a kid back then, and I loved the Iron Eagle franchise too. Even in those days, I knew Iron Eagle wasn't on the same level, but I recently went back and watched some of the first one. It's even more delightfully campy 80s action B-movie than I remember. I figure I should add this too. So my dad's a massive pinball machine collector since before I was born. Well back when I was a kid he got the F-14 Tomcat machine, which coincidentally also came out around the same time, in 1987. I was born in 86, same as Top Gun & Iron Eagle. Anyway I played the shit out of that machine, it was one of my favorites. Another one called High Speed was very similar to Sega's Outrun, and I think it came out around the same time. Another one of my favorites.
Iron Eagle was one I loved growing up as much as Top Gun. As a kid in love with the Air Force ..... and being a kid .... I could see myself being part of the gang jumping in and planning. I put them on the same level but for different reasons. TG had more intensity but IE was more Fun(?) as a younger person.

An important factor about this movie is that it actually touched a whole generation to join the military. A lot of people, espacially young kids, joined the military when they grew up because of this movie. I can't wait to see your reaction for Top Gun Maverick. It is a true master piece, I'm expecting and 11/10 from Jen!
I think a big thing when this movie came out is that most of us that watched it didn't care about the storyline because the main character in this movie was the F-14 Tomcat.
I can’t wait to see your viewing of the sequel and to see Jenn’s reaction to maverick in the first movie compared to the second. It’s a fantastic film that has enough fan service and a great story that it is arguably better then the original
She won't like him I don't think. She may dislike him less. I'm not sure she can look past that it's Tom Cruise. Having said that I hope I am wrong. And she falls in love with the character after seeing the second movie.
I can't believe this movie is 37 years old. That's crazy. Tom Cruise is on the top of the world since the 80s and still the biggest movie star of all time. The goat.
I cannot wait for you guys to watch Top Gun Maverick, the sequel blows the first one out of the water in every way and is emotional. When It comes time I hope you two love it as much as I do!!!
lol I love Jen's reaction and expression when Holden admitted to never have seen ER. Lol. I really loved this movie back as a kid and I must say the sequel really lived up to my expectations.
OMG hahahahah "thank you for your service hun" Jens face is like how all of us react because we don't know what to say when someone thanks us for our service.
I've seen a couple of comments claiming this doesn't have a storyline, and that's nonsense. It has several very clear paths from start to finish in terms of plot, character, and theme. We have a very clear 3-act structure, primarily centered around the Top Gun School and building to graduation. We have the character arc of Maverick which carries through into the real world to show the growth that he has achieved on his journey, literally a hero's journey, which includes everything from a mentor to the innermost cave to everything else Campbell put into the mix. The evolution of his attitude, the need to work as a team and *not* try to be the top gun, all of the stuff is so clearly spelled out that it could not possibly have a more obviously clear storyline from beginning to end by every standard of screenwriting.
26:50 - They purposely didn't name the hostile foreign nation as this movie was made during the Cold War and they didn't want to add fire to international tensions. The "MiG-28s" were American-made F-5E Tiger jets painted black with generic markings. They had a similar "mystery villain" with Iron Eagle (1986) and Iron Eagle II (1989), which you should react to as it competed with Top Gun in the 1980's. Ironically, they adopted the mystery villain concept again with Top Gun: Maverick (2022), despite the Cold War having been over for over 30 years.
I honestly wasn’t crazy on that bit. I consider Goose’s death to be one of the saddest movie deaths ever. So i feel like that wasn’t a good time for Holden to prank Jen
If you're doing Top Gun you *have* to do Hot Shots! which is the parody made by the Airplane! folks. I've watched it (and Part Deux) many MANY more times than I ever did Top Gun.
You guys were really quick to point out Maverick's obvious faults, which are the point of his character, and how reasonable Ice Man is in comparison. But what some people fail to notice is that Goose's death is kinda Ice Man's fault.
I honestly wasn’t crazy on that bit. I consider Goose’s death to be one of the saddest movie deaths ever. So i feel like that wasn’t a good time for Holden to prank Jen
I love this movie! This movie and Iron Eagle are my stand out older pilot films. I'd recommend Iron Eagle if one or both of you haven't seen it before! Has a lot of heart to it!
I honestly wasn’t crazy on that bit. I consider Goose’s death to be one of the saddest movie deaths ever. So i feel like that wasn’t a good time for Holden to prank Jen
Jen finding out Goose is dead: "You said he was fine!!!!" Well, in Holden's defense, Goose's condition WAS stable. ( Stable: not changing or fluctuating)
I honestly wasn’t crazy on that bit. I consider Goose’s death to be one of the saddest movie deaths ever. So i feel like that wasn’t a good time for Holden to prank Jen
The sequel does an incredible job with practical effects. It also has very touching ways of doing nostalgia from the original. There are some very similar character traits from characters in this one and the sequel.
I had a Betamax copy of Top Gun (Betamax was more commonly sold in the Philippines instead of VHS) during its time and I would watch it along with my 2 young sons everyday so this is nostalgic for me. I never thought about Maverick being unliked but now at the age of 64, after hearing Jen's reasoning, it makes much sense and I was surprised that Jen gave it still a high rating of 8.5.
I honestly wasn’t crazy on that bit. I consider Goose’s death to be one of the saddest movie deaths ever. So i feel like that wasn’t a good time for Holden to prank Jen
"He'll walk it off." I fucking died laughing and then fucking died laughing even more when the wife said, "You said he'd be fine! You said he'll walk it off!" 😂😂😂

You won't read this till after you watch the movie, but try to remember the squadron commander chewing out Maverick before telling him and Goose they were going to Top Gun. He mentioned the fly-by and one Admirals daughter Penny Benjamin and when they are in the Diner Gooses wife Carol mentioned Penny Benjamin 😊
I think Jenn in particular will really enjoy the sequel. All her issues are addressed. It’s so good. Shockingly unreasonably good. It has no business being as good as it is. Def worth a watch, if not a rxn.
While in the Navy, I was living on C street for a while, the scene where Charlie chased Maverick down was shot on B street, one block down and over. My wife and I walked over to watch. A really fun experience to see how scenes are filmed 😊
Yep, have to agree with Jen. I love this first film because of Goose, and much preferred Iceman to Mav. However I felt so much emotion watching Top Gun Maverick and love the storyline that he was redeemed for his arrogance in the first movie. If you haven’t seen Val Kilmer’s documentary titled Val, it’s great!
i actually really love jen’s reaction to the maverick character 😂. i appreciate she’s honest and doesn’t just try to cater to the audience or popular opinion.
I dont know Tom Cruise personally, but from the hollywood side, i loves most of his movies, and he literally will do anything for you if you are his friend or costar. The stories about what he has done for fellow people in the business are pretty great to hear about
I honestly wasn’t crazy on that bit. I consider Goose’s death to be one of the saddest movie deaths ever. So i feel like that wasn’t a good time for Holden to prank Jen
The one thing you have to remember is how pilots get their call signs. They are given by the other pilots and are frequently based on a trait viewed as bad. Maverick is a maverick hence the name, he always goes off solo and does what wants to rules be damned.
I was absolutely obsessed with military aircraft, as a kid, and our family lived in Virginia Beach. The Navy's East Coast Master Jet Base, NAS Oceana, is located there. My folks took me to see the movie, and the next day, Dad took me to Oceana, where he worked. I spent the whole day at the edge of the flight line, watching F-14s, A-4s, A-6s and other planes taking off and landing.
I honestly wasn’t crazy on that bit. I consider Goose’s death to be one of the saddest movie deaths ever. So i feel like that wasn’t a good time for Holden to prank Jen
Avidly agree with Holden on the Tony/Maverick comparison. Even after they learn what’s really important they retain their cocky attitudes because it’s just who they are.
Mav was the way he was because of the way his father was portrayed, those around him knew that, mav changed not by goose's death but viper telling him the truth
One of the reasons they killed off Goose in the movie was to force the US to actually address a serious issue the F-14 Tomcat had. Pilots and Rio's were dying far too often when forced to eject from the F-14A model of the aircraft for the same reason Goose died, where they were breaking their necks slamming into the canopy of the aircraft. Later models of the F-14 fixed this issue.
I can understand why she didn’t like maverick since not everyone likes the original. But, top gun maverick was literally my favorite movie of 2022 and exceeds the original in every way.
The strange thing about this movie is that, in every military-based movie or tv series when someone is killed in action, the only explanation their family ever gets is "training accident", but Goose actually was killed in a training accident.
I was so psyched to see this on my feed!! This has always been one of my fav movies, one of those few where, when I would be channel surfing (before streaming), and I’d see it on, I had to stop and watch it! I still remember the night I saw this in the theater back in 1986, the summer before my freshman year of HS! And the soundtrack is so iconic! I CANNOT WAIT FOR YOU TO DO TG: MAVERICK!!! And, as I’m sure you know, the enemy “MiG-28s” were actually Northrop F-5 Freedom Fighters, often called one of the Best Fighters Never Made! Obviously, not “never,” but, not like it should have been! As an adult, when I realized the connection between the F-5 and the MiG-28, I went down a deep rabbit hole (which I occasionally revisit) about the F-5, and MAN! It, and its successors could have really been something special!!
I love the original top gun awesome Danger zone and take my breath away is the best song of the 80s Tom cruise was in his 20s Goose’s death was emotional and shocking Great reaction you and Jen love it awesome keep it up
The comparison between Iceman and Maverick is legit, and really shows itself in their friendship in Top Gun: Maverick. Iceman IS the superior pilot in almost every way. He knows the book, is precise, skilled, and thinks very tactically. He IS what the Navy wants in a pilot. That is shown in the end sequence when he is on the back side of five-on-1 against the migs and still managed to hold them off, completely defensive, until Maverick can get there (minutes later). Maverick is the outlier. He has instinctive skill to a level that takes him outside the book so far that it doesn't limit him like it does Iceman. He is one with the plane and it sings for him. He doesn't have the discipline or true focus to play to the navy rules, though, and that is what people dislike. They acknowledge the skill but are trying to tell him how to use it to everyone's advantage in spite of his barely toeing the line. The military can tolerate such a pilot in war time because they are effective, but fear it to be an infectious rot in peace time.
I hope you both watch Hot Shots! aswell, which is a comedic take on Top Gun with Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer and Cary Elwes. Probably one of the most fun movies I’ve seen. I think it’s hilarious and keeping the story kinda the same. 😊
Admiral Pete Pettigrew was technical advisor to the movie. He came up with the idea of Goose’s death and it not being Maverick’s fault. The f-14 would depart controlled flight and enter a flat spin and there would be a low pressure area above the spinning aircraft and the canopy would hang for a while and then disappear and you could easily hit it while ejecting.
3:06 it was indeed written for Top Gun and was originally going to be performed by Toto, but they pulled out over a legal dispute so Kenny Loggins, who had already contributed a song to the movie (Playing With The Boys… the volleyball scene) took over. Danger Zone, Playing With The Boys, Take My Breath Away, Mighty Wings and Top Gun Anthem were all original songs for the soundtrack. Fun fact about the opening scene, the ship they were on (USS Enterprise) was on operational duty and had a set course, that course took away the sunrise backlighting the scene, Tony Scott requested the ship be turned and was told it would cost $25k to do so… Scott took out his personal chequebook and wrote one out on the spot. He later claimed that he made sure it bounced 😂 17:47 😬 this is gonna be painful… 19:50 yeah, just a concussion… and a fractured skull, broken neck, spinal compression, death… 25:46 the Enterprise has 4 catapults though 🤦🏻♂️ 28:20 they have multiple tags, Goose’s family would already have a set. 28:46 Kelly McGillis is 5ft 10in, Tom Cruise is 5ft 7in… for them to be the same height in this scene they dug a small trench in the floor for KM to stand in 😂 The flat spin scene was a depiction of a real world incident, the A model of the F-14 was infamous for its underpowered engines that would occasionally stall out and in extreme cases result in a flat spin, and in the movie it resulted in Goose dying. Sadly, while actually filming the scene, the camera plane shooting the footage lost control and plunged into the Pacific… the plane and its pilot, Art Scholl, were never recovered. The end credits has a dedication message to his memory. A little bit of fun… violations committed in Top Gun: 4:54 violation 1: dangerous flying… and something that could’ve sparked an international incident. 5:15 violation 2: obstruction of instrument panel. 5:27 violation 3: disobeying orders. 6:57 violation 4: riding a motorcycle without a helmet. 7:07 violation 5: riding a motorcycle alongside a runway. 9:16 violation 6: harassment. 9:56 violation 7: threatening an instructor. 11:08 violation 8: dangerous flying during a training exercise. 11:25 violation 9: flying, and engaging, below the “hard deck” (simulated ground level). 11:34 violation 10: disobeying orders. 11:34 violation 11: low level, high speed fly by over populated area (the base). 15:35 violation 12: engaging in relations with an instructor. 18:50 violation 13: dangerous flying during a training exercise. 22:48 violation 14: disclosing classified information. 26:06 violation 15: desertion. 27:44 violation 16: disobeying orders. 27:50 violation 17: low level, high speed fly by over the ship’s bridge. 14 of the violations in this movie are by Maverick, and then there’s his “rap sheet” that his CO read out near the beginning… safe to say he didn’t get his callsign because he was a goody-two-shoes 😂
The Navy gave their blessing for this movie and allowed a lot of access to make this movie as realistic as possible and it wound up being their best recruiting tool ever. The interactions between Iceman and Maverick were meant to depict the way the 2 top, best pilots would interact with one another in a competition setting. When Goose dies Maverick feels responsible so it's not that he doesn't console his wife or kid, he just can't really face them because of the guilt. In the end he gets redemption by using what he learned at Top Gun and earning Ice's respect. Also, important to remember, there is a subplot about Maverick's father who was his hero and one of the best fighter pilots died in action, but the military told the family and the public a bunch of BS because it was during the cold war. That is the point of the scene with Viper and Maverick just before graduation.
Another great val kilmer movie from the 80's with a great soundtrack is "Real Genius" you should really check it out , it's one of my favorite movies when i was a kid!
This and its sequel were made with the help and permission of the U.S. Navy. The fighter planes used in this are the F-14 "Tomcat", while F/A18 "Super Hornets" were used in the sequel. Miramar, CA is now a Marine Corps Air Station
My dad served in the gulf war and was on a boat so to answer your question holden about the loads of sweat in the beginning of the movie and it going foward, its mostly the heat and the boat's lack of air conditioning.
"Why are they sweating so much?" It gets hot down in the bowels of a warship. You've got a giant steel machine, filled with lots of inner compartments, all made of steel, and filled to the brim with electronics that produce even more heat, not to mention all the people (an American aircraft carrier usually has around 5K men on it when the squadrons are deployed). Also, these ships are usually patrolling trouble areas, which tend to be hot climates. When I was on carriers, we were usually in the hottest areas of the Pacific and in or near the Persian Gulf. My ship spent a lot of time patrolling the North Arabian Sea. It would get so hot that it would just overwhelm the air handlers. The most popular device for sailors on my carrier were these little plug-in fans that we could mount in our racks to help cool us down during sleep hours. Without them, you'd just lay there miserable in your rack, sweating and feeling like you were breathing soup.
I was stationed near Miramar in the Navy while this was being filmed. The cocky jerk that Tom Cruise plays in pretty accurate, based on my experience. Those guys were on another level. Remember, it wasn't long after this that the tailhook scandal occured, and if you're too young to remember it, look it up. Cruise's character was spot on
Definitely have to watch Top Gun Maverick. While the first one is an instant classic it does suffer imo because theres not much of a start to finish story. Seems like its just an excuse by hollywood to show jets in the air. Meanwhile the sequel actually has a story with a conclusion. Im personally a much bigger fan of the sequel for this reason.
@@pridas5202 The issue I have with the first one is our main character doesn't feel fleshed out. Once the movie is over it feels like the entire plot of the movie was build up the bond between Maverick and Goose and then show Maverick's recovery after Goose's death which is fine but there's not enough story post death. I feel like the first one needed Goose to die sooner so there'd be more post Goose storyline.
@@Puckett. no yeh I agree that the first has a lot of issues but I just had more fun with it than maverick. Maverick just felt soulless and didn’t have the personality of the first. The jokes were written like 99% of mainstream films nowadays and the plot was predictable
@@pridas5202 I don't think I agree with the plot being predictable. For just a few examples I wasn't expecting the Hangman character arc at least not how it would play out. I wasn't expecting the final 30 min of the movie post Maverick getting shot down. The whole stealing the F14s part of the movie was pretty surprising. Yeah there were some predictable parts you knew Rooster was gonna make the final team, you knew Rooster would forgive Maverick by the end. But I wouldn't even say Maverick's survival was guaranteed they kind of built it up the whole movie that he might die.
1. An old shipmate of mine was onboard the Enterprise when they filmed this. 2. Gooses death was not Maverick's fault. Iceman was bogarting his LOS approach and they got caught in the jet wash. Everything that could have gone wrong, did go wrong. 3. I spent 24 years in the US Navy. 6 on "bird farms" (Carriers). I have seen 1000+ launches and landings without a single crash. These men and the men working the flat tops are doing the most dangerous job in the world (for the good guys). Shout out😎 4. Kelly McGillis/Charlie was in a movie with Harrison Ford "Witness" that's seriously worth a first time/share HINT HINT 5. Tom Skerritt/Viper not only played Dallas in "Alien" he also played Strawberry in "Up in Smoke" with Cheech and Chong. 6. Val Kilmer/Iceman has a long list of movies including but not limited to: "Willow", "The Doors" and "Tombstone" 7. Goose is the RIO (Radar Intercept Officer) radar, communications and navigation. 8. Onboard the ship the Squadron leader would not be smoking a cigar in that operation space. 9. Meg Ryan is my honey. A great overlooked movie with her is with Tom Hanks called "Joe vs the Volcano" She plays 3 parts. HINT HINT 10. Onboard the ship/aircraft all the perspiration is Hollywood (not the pilot). There is AC onboard. 11. The TOP GUN school is no longer located at Miramar near San Diego. It's now at NAS Fallon, NV. 12. In 1991 I was stationed on the USS INDEPENDENCE (CV-62) and they made a movie onboard called "Flight of the Intruder". It was seriously cool. Brad Johnson, Willem DeFoe and Danny Glover. I'm actually in it for a very brief period of time. HINT HINT. 13. Watching/sharing the new "Top Gun Maverick" is a must. The ariel work in that movie makes this one seems like they were practicing. Better yet, it has a plot. (Besides Navy recruitment).

Bro she’s not gonna like him in the second movie because she doesn’t like him in real life lol
The goat.
fun fact for the ones that dont play warthunder, the "mig-28" in the movie is actually the F-5C Tiger with a black paintjob :D
F-5E's not C's
Oh, Jenn. Goose was everybody’s favorite character.
OMG hahahahah "thank you for your service hun"
Jens face is like how all of us react because we don't know what to say when someone thanks us for our service.
“Yeah, he’ll walk that off…” Hahaha. Classic Holden.
80's is probably the most varied decade for popular music. Not sure how anyone could say they don't like it. There's a little something for everyone.
Agreed!!
Yeah that was a pretty lame statement honestly. Especially since 80s had some of the best music (and movies) ever made.
Fun Fact: The "older guy" that "Charlotte" was meeting at the bar, was the real-life Viper at the real Top Gun school!!!
Wasn’t iron eagle implying it was Libya?
Maverick = “an independent individual who does not go along with a group or party”
As a Canadian Veteran myself, thank you for your service.
HE'S DEAD?!?! YOU SAID HE WAS GOING TO WALK IT OFF!!! Best laugh I've had watching a reaction video in a long time, thanks.
Also, The Naked Gun Trilogy. I love those movies.
You guys were really quick to point out Maverick's obvious faults, which are the point of his character, and how reasonable Ice Man is in comparison. But what some people fail to notice is that Goose's death is kinda Ice Man's fault.
he’s ok though right?
“ yeah he’ll walk it off “
😂😂😂
The one time he doesn't say, "Who's to say?"
If you;ve never seen it, check out The Final Countdown. also F14s, but came out before Top Gun, in 1980, I think.
@@APthefirst great film, my father was in the Navy and served aboard the Nimitz
I'd add Midway ( the 1976 version) to the list.
He’ll walk it off was one of the funniest moments on this channel
I honestly wasn’t crazy on that bit. I consider Goose’s death to be one of the saddest movie deaths ever. So i feel like that wasn’t a good time for Holden to prank Jen
Omg!! My heart just broke a little bit hearing hearing Jen say she's not into 80's music!😭
Jen finding out Goose is dead: "You said he was fine!!!!"
Well, in Holden's defense, Goose's condition WAS stable. ( Stable: not changing or fluctuating)
Holden should've have said "He'll walk that off". He gave her false hope
He said, Ya He’ll walk that off.” I’m done 💀💀🤣🤣
That really ruined the moment for me honestly
“He’ll walk it off” lol 😂
Perfect joke, but the worst possible timing. He completely wrecked her emotional response to Goose's death. But the joke had to be right then.
“He will walk that off”😂😂
I honestly wasn’t crazy on that bit. I consider Goose’s death to be one of the saddest movie deaths ever. So i feel like that wasn’t a good time for Holden to prank Jen
I liked that Jen sees Anthony Edwards and thinks Dr. Greene from ER and everyone watching ER think it's Goose from Top Gun!!!
Honestly never realised that the same actor played Goose and Dr. Greene. Guy looks so young here.
Don't forget, he was one of the two main nerds in Revenge of the Nerds.
The sequel does an incredible job with practical effects. It also has very touching ways of doing nostalgia from the original. There are some very similar character traits from characters in this one and the sequel.
3:06 heck yeah it was on the soundtrack!! Between that, BttF and the Cocktail soundtrack, that’s some of my earliest memories!!
"Yeah, he's gonna walk it off" 🤣
I honestly wasn’t crazy on that bit. I consider Goose’s death to be one of the saddest movie deaths ever. So i feel like that wasn’t a good time for Holden to prank Jen
"He'll walk it off." I fucking died laughing and then fucking died laughing even more when the wife said, "You said he'd be fine! You said he'll walk it off!" 😂😂😂
I honestly wasn’t crazy on that bit. I consider Goose’s death to be one of the saddest movie deaths ever. So i feel like that wasn’t a good time for Holden to prank Jen
3:24 That is Strickland, from Back to the Future. Have you seen it?
"Can't he follow directions, orders, anything?" Lmao about that
I think Jenn in particular will really enjoy the sequel. All her issues are addressed. It’s so good. Shockingly unreasonably good. It has no business being as good as it is. Def worth a watch, if not a rxn.
YES!!
This was the very first Tom Cruise movie I saw on VHS an it's also one of my dad's favorite movies!
Said the same thing when I saw this video go up
"He'll walk it off" lmao. Literally paused it just to laugh.
"yeah he'll walk that off" oh boy....
i actually really love jen’s reaction to the maverick character 😂. i appreciate she’s honest and doesn’t just try to cater to the audience or popular opinion.
I dont know Tom Cruise personally, but from the hollywood side, i loves most of his movies, and he literally will do anything for you if you are his friend or costar. The stories about what he has done for fellow people in the business are pretty great to hear about
What! How can Jen hate 80s music? That’s literally a golden age of music and film. What do I know though I was born in ‘99
"Yeah, he'll walk that off" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 That was next level
I honestly wasn’t crazy on that bit. I consider Goose’s death to be one of the saddest movie deaths ever. So i feel like that wasn’t a good time for Holden to prank Jen
Miss Jen..... Thank you for your service, ma'am!!
The 80’s had MJ, JJ, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Prince, New Edition, NKOTB, and etc 80’s is the GOAT music decade
The one thing you have to remember is how pilots get their call signs. They are given by the other pilots and are frequently based on a trait viewed as bad. Maverick is a maverick hence the name, he always goes off solo and does what wants to rules be damned.
The grey haired guy that Charlie goes and sits next to is the advisor for the movie.
There's a reason Goose was made the most lovable character of the movie. So they could crush your soul later.
Loved Jen's anger when Goose dies. Fun discussion as always thank you both was a very fun watch :)
"he walk that off" next scene: "goose is dead" 🤣🤣
I honestly wasn’t crazy on that bit. I consider Goose’s death to be one of the saddest movie deaths ever. So i feel like that wasn’t a good time for Holden to prank Jen
Avidly agree with Holden on the Tony/Maverick comparison. Even after they learn what’s really important they retain their cocky attitudes because it’s just who they are.
Omg…I love when “veteran Jen” comes out 😂
Mav was the way he was because of the way his father was portrayed, those around him knew that, mav changed not by goose's death but viper telling him the truth
How can you not like 80s music,it's the best decade ever!
I can understand why she didn’t like maverick since not everyone likes the original. But, top gun maverick was literally my favorite movie of 2022 and exceeds the original in every way.
Everytime a video posts I’m like “What movies has Jen ACTUALLY seen for Pete’s sake?!?” 😂😂😂😂😂😂
A JAG lawyer watched this and determined that Maverick committed so many violations and crimes he would be either in jail or would have been executed.
It is a movie for entertainment fuck what some JAGoff lawyer says.
@@williamroper5422 who gets this triggered? are you a scientologist?
I always thought this movie was okay but Top Gun Maverick is one of my favorite movies ! So good
The strange thing about this movie is that, in every military-based movie or tv series when someone is killed in action, the only explanation their family ever gets is "training accident", but Goose actually was killed in a training accident.
I love the original top gun awesome
Danger zone and take my breath away is the best song of the 80s
Tom cruise was in his 20s
Goose’s death was emotional and shocking
Great reaction you and Jen love it awesome keep it up
The comparison between Iceman and Maverick is legit, and really shows itself in their friendship in Top Gun: Maverick.
Hooah, Jen!!! What was your MOS and unit?
11B, 25th Infantry Division, here.
I hope you both watch Hot Shots! aswell, which is a comedic take on Top Gun with Charlie Sheen, Jon Cryer and Cary Elwes. Probably one of the most fun movies I’ve seen. I think it’s hilarious and keeping the story kinda the same. 😊
The soundtrack aged better than the movie
Absolute rubbish the movie has aged very well .
He later claimed that he made sure it bounced 😂
17:47 😬 this is gonna be painful…
19:50 yeah, just a concussion… and a fractured skull, broken neck, spinal compression, death…
25:46 the Enterprise has 4 catapults though 🤦🏻♂️
28:20 they have multiple tags, Goose’s family would already have a set.
28:46 Kelly McGillis is 5ft 10in, Tom Cruise is 5ft 7in… for them to be the same height in this scene they dug a small trench in the floor for KM to stand in 😂
The flat spin scene was a depiction of a real world incident, the A model of the F-14 was infamous for its underpowered engines that would occasionally stall out and in extreme cases result in a flat spin, and in the movie it resulted in Goose dying. Sadly, while actually filming the scene, the camera plane shooting the footage lost control and plunged into the Pacific… the plane and its pilot, Art Scholl, were never recovered. The end credits has a dedication message to his memory.
A little bit of fun… violations committed in Top Gun:
4:54 violation 1: dangerous flying… and something that could’ve sparked an international incident.
Yes you guys definitely have to see the sequel! And also Thank you for service Jen !!
I dressed up as Maverick for Halloween when I was probably 5. This was literally the first time a film ever made me cry when Goose died. I can't lie.
Eyerolling 'This is going to be complicated.' Priceless.
Christine Fox, the inspiration for Kelly McGillis' character 'Charlie', eventually became Acting Deputy Secretary of Defense in 2013.
My dad served in the gulf war and was on a boat so to answer your question holden about the loads of sweat in the beginning of the movie and it going foward, its mostly the heat and the boat's lack of air conditioning.
As someone else mentioned in the comments, remember the "Admiral's Daughter" bit. It comes back in part 2.
"Why are they sweating so much?"
It gets hot down in the bowels of a warship.
I actually prefer the original to maverick because it doesn’t just follow a cut and dry Hollywood plot structure.
How could the editor miss ' bull shit you can be mine ' still great job waited for this for absolutely ages
Shout out😎
4. Kelly McGillis/Charlie was in a movie with Harrison Ford "Witness" that's seriously worth a first time/share HINT HINT
5. Tom Skerritt/Viper not only played Dallas in "Alien" he also played Strawberry in "Up in Smoke" with Cheech and Chong.
6. Val Kilmer/Iceman has a long list of movies including but not limited to: "Willow", "The Doors" and "Tombstone"
HINT HINT
Enjoyed this movie when it first came out, but Jen’s eye-rolling is exactly my reaction when I watch it now. Also, I love Boston.
Agree with you Jen. Maverick’s narcism needs a lot of treatment.
I love Jen’s disgust with Holden not having watched ER, because Dr. Greene was my FAVORITE character who I was way too invested in as an 11 year old 😂
