The holiday season, while being a time of joy, can also be draining for many people. So thank you guys for taking a break from your lives to recharge and watch a movie about a rat chef along with us. We hope you all had a Merry Christmas and happy holidays and looking forward to what the New Year has in store!
Ratatouille is one of my favorite childhood movies. This movie shows friendship can come in all shapes and sizes. It shows that you never know who you'll fall in love with, and most of all it shows you to follow your dreams and find inspiration despite what everyone (mostly your family) says to you.
The critic's monologue at the end has to be one of the finest moments in Pixar history. It's amazing to see him truly ponder what he has to say about this and actually puts his reputation on the line to stand by this experiment and what he says is so poignant and deep to anyone looking to judge something
I've made ratatouille many times, both the traditional version and the one shown in the movie. Normal ratatouille is just a vegetable stew, its just chopped up veggies simmered in a vegetable broth (I normally use a bell pepper puree). The one shown in the movie is a special type called Confit byaldi, instead of the veggies simmered in broth, they're shingled in a patterned and then steam/simmered in the oven covered. The sauce I normally use is a bell pepper sauce and the veggies I use are eggplant, tomato, yellow squash, and zucchini
I grew up eating some (americanized) french food because my mom lived in France for about 10 years. Ratatouille was one of my favorites. She adds parmesan cheese; really kicks it up a notch. I also loved jambon berre (ham and butter sandwich on baguette bread) and aligot (cheesy mashed potatoes).
As an amateur household cook, I admit that I had to reread your comment a few times to understand what was the similarity between the two types of Ratatouille you described. From what I gather, they are both vegetable stews; however, the traditional is simmered in a broth whereas the other one is steamed-simmered while covered inside the oven
@@josebeteta8283 sort of, the former is like a traditional stew while the later is more like a casserole where you use thinly sliced vegetables and layer them
Most people don’t notice the little details in this movie, the dog at 4:09 is Doug from Up and if you look closely at the house from the flashback at 22:50, it’s the grandmother’s house from the beginning of the movie
Really hoping they do Wall-E, before I ended up becoming this broken mess of a person. It's hard to explain why I just really felt really seen by the first half.
As one of your French regular watcher, I'm really glad you watched this movie. It is a great representation of the importance of cuisine in our country. The dish "Ratatouille" is a combinaison of fresh vegetable cut and roasted or boiled, with courgettes (zucchini), aubergines (eggplant), tomatoes, garlic, onions and peppers. It comes from the South of France and is very healthy and light, but still filling. The reason Colette is so surprised by Rémy's choice to make a ratatouille is that it is a very traditional dish rarely seen in Grand Restaurants, but more often in homes made by parents or grand-parents for family meals.
This is honestly in my top five favorite films of all time. It's a comfort film for me. Whenever I'm in a negative mood/headspace, I put this on, and I can't be unhappy by the end of it. There's so much *heart* in it, and it's got some banger lines. "Change *is* nature, and it starts when we decide" is probably one of my favorite lines of the whole film, but I actually have "your only limit is your soul" as part of a larger tattoo piece on my back. Like that's how much of an impression this film has made on me over the years. I'm so, so glad you both love it as much as you do. Thank you for this one.
Unfortunately Studio Ghibli is notorious for shutting channels down. They will let a channel post a bunch of reviews then hit them with a bunch of copyright strikes all at once getting them shut down. No one will touch them
This movie is a classic one and is always played at my school in my art class because of how good it is. This was my first Pixar film so it will always hold a special place in my heart. ❤
Ratatouille is a type of vegetable stew but in the movie they basically made a fancy version of it. Pixar had an actual chef come of with a variant for the dish and it is known as Ratatouille a la Remi
Well, Remy might have been in the sewers but he also fell into dish water which cleaned his fur. That's what director Brad Bird points out in the audio commentary, so it didn't just saved Remy from the fall.
I could see that Jen really liked this movie, she was smiling most of the time and was really into it. I am not telling you that she wasn't into other movies, but it was like magic to her. Great video, greetings from Chile
I'm very excited for you both to watch Coco. It's amazingly beautiful, colourful, and an amazing way to bring Mexican culture out to those who don't know much of it, especially Dia de los Muerta. It really ignited a spark of interest and respect in the culture that was more a passing acknowledgement for it before. I think Jen would Love that film. The music is so beautiful too and always brings a tear to my eyes in the end.
Time for a trip to EPCOT for the Ratatouille ride. Something to look for during a rewatch, Ego's face becomes fuller in the final scene. As he even says, "If I don't love it, I don't swallow."
I think the best thing about this movie, it ALWAYS makes me hungry, and actually want to make the meals in the movie, the Ratatouille is probably the easiest to make in the movie because it's one of the few names dishes you can follow a recipe for (Also, it's not bad of a dish).
Pretty much my favorite Pixar movie. I still love the late Peter O'Toole's monologue at the end about the role of the critic, it resonates with me still unto this day.
I literally spit my lunch out everywhere when the Subscribe icon came out of the shotgun when it jammed. My God that was the funniest damn thing I’ve seen all week. Love y’all’s reactions!
I was a little scared that Jen wouldn't like it because she didn't seem as amused or thrilled as in other movie reactions but so happy she gave it a 9! My favorite part is the pen drop. It makes me emotional to see a master so great at their craft as to gain the appreciation of even the harshest critic. I can only dream that I can master a craft as well as Remy mastered cooking.
you know that the old lady in the beginning of the movie is anton ego´s mother? if you compare how his mothers house looks when she is young and the old ladys house, you will see that it is the same house with the same furniture and ratatouille is basiclly said a vegetable stew
Ratatouille is a vegitible stew with eggplant zucchini tomatoes carrots in a stewed tomato sauce it’s good but it’s not usually fancy like the movie it’s more a poor food in France which is why college called it peasant food
I love love love the way this movie looks and the entire atmosphere is my fav. The subject matter and the music just set it apart for me. This and Wall-E are my favs for sure.
I think this movie is actually very sweet and surprisingly has so many themes for a kids movie, I love Egos’ speech at the end when he realizes he finally met someone he considers an “equal” who loves food as much as he does❤
This is the film that made me appreciate what I taste. Thanks to Remy, I like to combine flavors for a tasty rhythm. Two things that were important to me growing up were my mom’s home-cooked meals and Pixar. I would eat whatever my mom would make for us. I always appreciated whatever she cooked, but seeing Anton flash back to his youth gave me an even greater appreciation for her cooking.
I speak for everyone when I say that this movie is our childhood. I am glad you introduced Jen to this movie! There are many more Disney movies to react to, like Coco! 🙌🏽
Great video, growing up I forever watched ratatouille a lot and this has to be in my top 5 Pixar’s movies. Also when will you and Jen react to what if? Season 2 this season is looking better than the first season.
4:09 In here, we have a classic PIXAR Easter Egg where we can see Dug’s (the dog from Up, the next chronologically released PIXAR) shadow in the wall as Remy is passing by. You can also hear Dug’s voice in the background saying “hi there!” and barking
Anyone can cook I still remember after watching this movie I started making my own omelets. Chopping up the tomatoes, onions and cilantro. I felt like a legit chef at the time lol
My favorite Pixar film. 5:45 -- science fact: rats do not have a gag reflex. This means that Linguini's creation was SO bad, it created a scientific anomaly.
This movie always makes me hungry. Also, having worked in foodservice (though not quite as upscale as Gusteau's), I can tell they did their homework on this one.
Ratatouille is definitely one of the best Pixar films & such an easy dish to make! It’s just Zucchini, Yellow Squash, Tomato & Eggplant with a Tomato Sauce. I would say it’s my signature dish. Glad to see you both really like this film! I would say y’all should watch Inside Out next!

Ratatouille is one of Pixar’s best movies I can watch it anytime, it’s just a feel good movie. The next Pixar I would like to see guys watch is Wall-E, I believe it’s an underrated movie.
2 fun facts about this movie: first rats don’t have a gag reflex so when Remy runs by the soup and almost vomits the soup was so bad that it broke the laws of nature. Second when Linguini and Remy and trying to figure out how to get Linguini to cook and he bits him multiple times, when they get caught in the walk in refrigerator and Linguini turns the lights out, if you turn the brightness up all the way you can see Linguini grab Remi and put him in the chefs hat on his head. Love this movie!
I think this might be my favorite Pixar movie because it's narratively so different for Pixar movies, especially when it was released. It's kind of lower stakes in a way, and I love it for that. Interestingly, i just read Brad Bird is now making an animated movie with Skydance, not Disney. It seems several Disney people moved to Skydance (John Lasseter, Alan Menken, the guy who directed Zootopia whose name I don't know). It should be interesting to see what comes out of that studio in the coming years.
What a good PS2 Game me as kid watching this a dozen times did not notice him saying "not much" to an Apartment like this, a flat with few of la tour eiffel ?? We had all the hints that he was his kid the French granny fought my people back in the day 💀
As a french I never understood the french accent in american movies, it sounds more italian than french to me ^^ I think it sound too "round", it should sound more "rought", almost germanic imo. I think it's because old singers, like Edith Piaf tend to roll the R while singing, something we don't do in modern french, and it makes sense since France seems stuck in the 1st half of the 20th century, according to stereotypes 😅
A Ratatouille is a vegetable stew, and you can actually see it as a stew form in Ego's flashback, the one that Remy cooks is a different dish but essentially are still the same ingredients.
The rat-catching store which remy's dad shows him is based on a real store which is (or was) in Paris. I saw it with my own eyes when I was there in 1990
holden there is a theory that ego's mother is the old lady from the start of the movie since, in the flashback after ego's first bite of ratatouille , ego's house is very similar to hers
"Paris is such an old city though... I'm just saying like, opposed to like, Oklahoma." "What's wrong with Oklahoma?" Born and bred Okie here. To answer that question... A lot of things. (My sister moved to your town by the way.) But I think Jen is just referring to the fact that Oklahoma wasn't founded until 1907... It hasn't been around long.
