I love The Mask. One of Jim Carrey's best films. I remember that I used to keep pestering my parents to rent the VHS whenever we'd go to the video store. The animated series is great as well.
I was never a fan of Carrey's earlier movies (did love his _In Living Color_ work, though), but the style of comedy that turned me off in his other movies was a perfect fit for this one.
This was one of the two dvds that came with the first dvd player we got. The other was stepmother, which as you can imagine wasn't as entertaining to a 10 year old. I re-watched the hell out of this and honestly was in the player for a long time until we got some simpsons dvds.
This movie is an absolute blast, so many great lines that I used to annoy classmates my freshman year in high school with. "Can't make the scene, if you don't have the green. I better make a little stop." "It's party time, P-A-R-T-Why? Because I gotta!" One of Jim's cookiest performances. He was a delight as Fire Marshal Bill in the comedy sketch In Living Color. Nice reaction, glad you got to see this gem Holden. The actor who played Dorian was in Pulp Fiction.
Milo was actually the star.... right ? To say Jim Carey was showed up by a dog would be humiliating 😆 It's the only movie I even saw a dog get more attention than an actor. I bet that doesn't come up often
So fun fact, I actually own a copy of the script that was used on set. It was filmed in my sister in laws home town, and it was given to me as a Christmas present.
It's actually based on a Comic Book series, so they probably just threw a comic book at people and said "This plus Jim Carrey, equals awesomeness. Wanna make a movie?"...
Another fun fact. Jim Carrey actually took the big teeth home and practiced many times with the teeth in so he would be able to say words with no problem.
1:37 its a dark horse comic or something, like crow , marvel movies and other superhero movies like spawn maybe tick Maxx or whatnot were being made during this time
Still one of my favourite films as a kid. Jim Carey was the UNDISPUTED king of Hollywood comedy in the mid 90's. The nostalgia dopamine hits I got from watching this back, was intoxicating. Glad Holden enjoyed it. Kinda impossible not to. So much fun, and no one could do it like Jim. I'm in my late 30's and have spent close to three decades still quoting lines from this film often.

The mask is actually a comic book movie as it's based off the comic of the same name but they are pretty different. The comic is a lot darker and more violent.
Just like Jen, when I was a kid, me and my sister had 3 vhs’s we watched so much we wore out the tape. It was The Mask, 2002’s live action Scooby-Doo movie and Shrek. I absolutely love the mask. It just brings so much joy to me. There’s honestly never a bad time to watch it, I’m always down to watch it lol
The actress who plays the reporter is Amy Yasbeck, the wife of the late actor John Ritter(Three's Company and 8 Simple Rules. Even if it is only a small role, I enjoy watching her act. Her husband was a very funny man.

The craziest thing about the Mask is how it goes a completely different direction than the comics. This is the mask people love and probably most don’t know that it’s based on a comic that is surprisingly violent. Jim Carrey plays the character Stanley Ipkiss from the first few comics I believe, but unlike in the movie where he is a goofy romantic in the comics he’s a complete psychopath and instead of being known as the mask he is called the big headed killer.
This movie is actually a COMIC BOOK MOVIE. The mask was a very PG13 variation of the graphic novel. It was a very dark and gory style comic. Holden would probably love it
Yeh The Mask is just an awesome movie. I think I was like most guys and fell for Cameron as soon as she came on the scene, and I do remember being surprised at the twist of the reporter lady being the traitor and Cameron's character being the "good gal". That was some really smart writing and definitely catches us off-guard :) Speaking of Cameron, would you guys watch the Charlie's Angels movies with Cameron Diaz and Lucy Lui? Those are just fun movies, definitely not to be taken seriously at all. Just fun flicks. But yeh, any Jim Carrey 90's movie is great. Even Truman Show, one of his more serious roles is great to watch. Awesome story. :)
You can yell how much energy Jim Carrey is puting into his role if you compare with the 2nd much worst movie because no Jim Carrey in it "Son of the Mask"
Jamie Kennedy talked with the director of son of the mask and the director has a VHS of his original film that is supposed to be more of what we would expect from it that if I remember right would of been PG-13 before the studio stepped in and messed it up and made it family friendly. Jamie did a few videos on the behind the scenes and what happened on his RUclips channel.

I watched it with my Dad and he enjoyed it and when it would air in TBS (which most of the times had either dubbed in words or just no audio at all for the certain words) it would make me crack up even more hearing those other words cause it was sometime stupid or ridiculous. I can almost quote all of The Mask character's lines. They are just so remember able. Also The Mask comes from a series of comics made back in 87 from Dark Horse Presents comics. And in that version they were more murderious people when putting on the mask and not like how in the movie it was tone down and Stanley was made more of a mischievous trickster then in the comics. I do hope that Jim just takes some time off and then comes back later to do a few more movies. Yes I wouldn't mind if he wants to retire cause it's his life and we can't stop him from do it. Just hope he has a nice life and still pops up from time to time to make us laugh.
Jim Carrey had the best run of movies in my lifetime. I don't think any actor in recent memory has been able to pump out so many classics in such a short time frame. Ace Ventura (1994), Dumb and Dumber (1994), The Mask (1994), Ace Ventura When Nature Calls (1995), Batman Forever (1995), The Cable Guy (1996), Liar Liar (1997), The Truman Show (1998), and a small bit in Simon Birch (1998). Plus a few big movies a few years after that. There's no other actor like Jim Carrey. He could play a serious/down to Earth role when he had to, but nobody played the whacky/silly/random character that Jim Carrey perfected. I can't imagine any other actor being able to make 'The Mask' successful. One of my favorite childhood movies.
Ripley auto is filmed at the ghostbusters firehouse where all the interior was shot in LA …been used in a few movies I always see that green and white tiles 🤓
Most people don’t know but this is based of a comic book of the same name and it’s not too different just it’s way more violent I mean he literally burns people alive with a flame thrower 😂
I feel like this was one of the first movies where Jim Carrey played a character that was more like a real person. His other movies, his characters were over the top and ridiculous. So it was the first time we got to see him do some genuine acting, and as we know, he just got better with time. Fun watch.
One of the best parts about this film is that jim carrey didn't know most of his lines work, He improved on everything. Even the mask that he wore was not supposed to move his lips, There was supposed to be a Sequel the mask two But Jim Carrey had to turn it around to work on movies. Like the cable guy and Truman show.
Cam Diaz is such an underrated actress. Just because she finished her carreer with a bunch of stinkers. But she was FANTASTIC in Vanilla Sky (her best performance imo) and I also really liked her in My Best Friend's Wedding and The Holiday! All strong recommendations.
Among my classmates that movie was found hilarious but the others at school always said that it didn't have that rewatch potential because it was so caricatural. That being said, one of my school buddies at the time loved the movie he was mimmicking the Mask dying acting scene over and over again just to prove to us he could be an actor. As a matter of fact, he has become one even if he is a minor actor and director, he never changed his mind about what his future would be and he was 10 yo at the time. I don't wish to rewatch the movie but seeing newcomers enjoy it is infinitely more gratifying.
I was so shocked to hear about the death of Richard Jenni. He was one of my favorite comedians and I would wait for his appearances on Carson. He was so funny. RIP.
Fun fact, The Mask is one of the few comic-book films that completely deviates from the source material and actually works. In the comics it's way more violent, scary and crazier. The wearer looks just like Jim Carrey in the make up, but they go on mass murdering sprees and use their power for their own gain.
It's kinda incredible that the comic that this is based on is incredibly dark and gruesome. Speaks volumes to what Jim Carrey brings to a character. The contrast he shows between Ipkiss and The Mask is exactly why Carrey is such a fantastic actor. All time favourite. Love you 3000 Jim❤️🔥
Yes, thank you for recognizing that! I’m so sick of ignorant fools out there saying that he always plays the same character or that he always plays himself… ugh! People are so stupid and ignorant
At one time before the 2000s and Marvel movies, The Mask was considered one of the best comic book based movies along with Batman (1989), The Crow, and the first 2 Superman movies.
I would love to see you guys watch The Majestic. I personally feel it's one of Jim Carrey's underrated performance. Especially since it was after his series of successful comedies.
The reason The Majestic was underrated was because it was a flop unfortunately. He only had 3 successful dramatic movies… Truman Show, Man on the Moon and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
When I see Jim Carrey as The Mask, I'm thinking of only one character that makes more of a cameo appearance, more or less how he moves fast, the Tasmanian Devil from _Looney Tunes…_ "Taz" Mainly, his cyclone.
I'm with Jen on this one. I watched this in the theater 7 times when it came out, I was 17 at the time. 30 years later, and I still love this movie (still watch Looney Toons and Roger Rabbit also).
What? No, he didn’t… the Mask came out in 1994, Truman Show came out in 98. The Mask came out the same year as Ace Ventura and Dumb & Dumber in 94. You need to do better research buddy
Love this movie as a youth, Jim was in his prime in the mid to late 90’s. Another movie you guys should check out is eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
i forgot how much i loved this movie when i was a child, it even reminded me of the cartoon network animated series, damn its been so long sins i've seen both ^^
The joy on Jen’s face when she got to say to Holden… “who’s to say 🤷🏻♀️” 😂😂😂 very good
The look on Holden's face just screams, "She's the one." 😂

The Mask was one of those movies I kept watching over and over again as a kid
I was so shocked to hear about the death of Richard Jenni. He was one of my favorite comedians and I would wait for his appearances on Carson. He was so funny. RIP.
Did you notice the the main villain is one or Alanzos soldiers in Training Day, another one of Jenna favorites.
Fun fact, The Mask is one of the few comic-book films that completely deviates from the source material and actually works. In the comics it's way more violent, scary and crazier. The wearer looks just like Jim Carrey in the make up, but they go on mass murdering sprees and use their power for their own gain.
Lmao Holden I can't believe you called Peter Greene discount Cilian Murphy. He's been a recognizable villain in cinema for decades 😂
Anytime this movie is on, I WATCH IT. And Milo. He stole the show. Great movie to brighten your spirit when you need to. Great Post.
This film was out when i was in secondary school
We quoted this daily word for word
At one time before the 2000s and Marvel movies, The Mask was considered one of the best comic book based movies along with Batman (1989), The Crow, and the first 2 Superman movies.
Jenn has become great as a host. Shes so great and charming while comfortable now. Bravo babe
One of my favourite movies with Jim Carrey.
This movie is my childhood haha love it :)
I'm also hoping you guys are considering The Legend of Korra in your queue of shows :)
The loaner car always reminds me of Fozzzy Bear's Studebaker from "The Muppet Movie" (1979) :D
This is one of the few times I knew Jenn was around my age based on how well she knows this film 🤣🤣🤣
When I see Jim Carrey as The Mask, I'm thinking of only one character that makes more of a cameo appearance, more or less how he moves fast, the Tasmanian Devil from _Looney Tunes…_ "Taz"
Mainly, his cyclone.
i love this movie i feel like jen no idea holden hadnt seen any of these movies and all the ones shes showing him are some of my favorites :)
I'm with Jen on this one. I watched this in the theater 7 times when it came out, I was 17 at the time. 30 years later, and I still love this movie (still watch Looney Toons and Roger Rabbit also).
Jim Carry made the Mask, and the Truman show in the same freaking year. He made 2 of the most iconic movies of all time within 365 days. He’s amazing.
The Truman Show came out 4 years after The Mask.
What? No, he didn’t… the Mask came out in 1994, Truman Show came out in 98.
The Mask came out the same year as Ace Ventura and Dumb & Dumber in 94. You need to do better research buddy
Awesome movie, one of my childhood favourites. I also recommend Flubber with Robin Williams.
Love this movie as a youth, Jim was in his prime in the mid to late 90’s. Another movie you guys should check out is eternal sunshine of the spotless mind
i forgot how much i loved this movie when i was a child, it even reminded me of the cartoon network animated series, damn its been so long sins i've seen both ^^
I love Milo's little Mutley laugh whenever he attacks a criminal. Milo really stole the show.
I can't believe Holden hasn't seen this before it was great! Lol
