Merry Christmas, Mr.Cowboy. Thanks for tuning in with us this holiday season!
Merry Christmas guys! Love from the UK also your Power Ranger Jump is amazing!
Merry Christmas, guys. Just watched this last night with the family, and it's still one of the best action movies of all time imo. Also you guys should definitely watch the sequels or at least the third one for Samuel l jackson. Him and Bruce Willis work pair very well together
PLEASE DON'T MISS WATCHING ALL 5 MOVIES THEY ARE SO BAD ASS!!!!
Merry Christmas to you both, have an amazing day
Merry Christmas from TX .
Die Hard is about an estranged husband and father trying to reconnect with his wife and kids over Christmas. He even brings a present for the kids ( Teddy Bear) The movie features multiple Christmas songs including Let it Snow over the end credits. Theres a jingle bells motif that plays throughout the film. John Mclain writes HO-HO-HO and puts a Santa Hat on the body. He uses Christmas packing tape to conceal the pistol at the end. The entire plot hinges on the building being nearly deserted for Christmas eve. Lastly, the final line of the film is "If this is your idea of Christmas I gotta be here for New Years" as Let it Snow begins to play.
I rest my case
Don’t forget his wife’s name is “Holly”. 😎
The rolex! He de-latches the rolex, which falls with hans. The rolex represent the company breaking up the family.
Also at the end after the family is reunited and a Christmas miracle occurs, its "snowing" with the papers falling from the sky.
You take out the heist and the machine guns and this is a Hallmark Christmas movie.
hear, hear! 👏👏👏👏👏
This movie was a game-changer in the action movie genre. Prior to this, especially in the 80s, when people thought of action heroes, they pictured Stallone, Schwarzenegger. etc.--invincible, muscle-bound types. "Die Hard" pioneered the "everyman" action hero type. The hero who doesn't walk out of the total carnage he created like it was nothing. McClane is beaten to within an inch of his life, bloodied, bruised, physically, mentally and emotionally drained. It made action movies more relatable to the audience.
Also Alan Rickman redefined the archetype of the action villain by playing a sophisticated, well-spoken, well-mannered mastermind who prefers brains over brawn and pays attention to detail.
Not to mention it created its own sub-genre of action films
Jean Claude van Damme and Dolph Lundgren amongst other
Until the gradually turned McClane into a superhero in the sequels.
Officer Winslow always running into adventures throughout his entire career.
So me and my girlfriend at the time was walking past a movie theater and this kid was standing outside and asked us if we wanted to see a sneak peek of a new action flick which turned out to be Die Hard. We went that night and was totally blown away. Within a span of about 2 weeks, I saw it 3 times. I totally love this movie.
I've only seen Die Hard 3 at the cinema, within the past decade but not when it came out, but I can't imagine seeing Die Hard in 1988 (I was too young). That's awesome. Such an incredible movie that's legacy has only grown over the past 3 decades+.
💜✋ You have to understand the context of this movie : BRUCE WILLIS was a comedic actor at the time! He played in an American TVseries ( Moonlighting, 1985-1989 ). Nobody believed that he could be the main action character in a movie! Bruce wasn't even on the movie posters, the producers didn't believe him either! This fantastic movie catapulted Bruce Willis to the world action star of the time! At that time, action heroes were extra strong, indestructible, didn't bleed (Arnold and the others), but Bruce Willis introduced a new type of action hero. His character was an ordinary person who bled, was exhausted, sometimes frustrated, but still full of determination to win the fight!
Bruce Willis proved this with this great movie!
Thank you for your great reactions! This is how millions of people around the world reacted to this Iconic movie ✋💜
Right? At the time the thought was, "David Addison as an action star? You joking?"
Then we saw the movie, and realized it was brilliant.
yup it was the same for Michael Keaton before he played Batman he mostly did comedic roles so noway he could pull off Batman but he did
The balls on Bruce to ask Fox for $5 million dollars for the role. He was a massive TV star at the time, I guess Fox shrugged and gave it to him.
Frank Sinatra, Arnold, Stallone, Mel Gibson and Harrison Ford were all asked before Willis signed on. I can't imagine the movie being as good as it is with those guys.
For many years I didn't pick up on a little detail that they hid in the movie regarding Alan Rickman's character:
When they took Takagi to the office to question him, Hans Gruber mentions how he loved building models as a kid, with an emphasis on "every conceivable detail". This is actually a hint towards his actual motivation. Certainly, having 640 million dollars in negotiable barabonds, which can be made into a decent flow of money for the entire crew, can be motivation enough. But to Hans it is also a challenge that he wanted to tackle - he is the mastermind that not only gets to steal from a huge Japanese company, from one of their most secure locations, but also while utilizing the help of the local police and the FBI. If John McClane hadn't intervened with all of it, his plan would have worked out as well. McClane proved to be his ultimate downfall, because he was an unpredictable element throughout the entire situation.
In the audio commentary for the film, John McTiernan, the director, stated that Hans Gruber is the actual protagonist of the film, driving the narrative, while John McClane is the antagonist, with the main goal of thwarting this plan.
"barabonds"?
I think a funny little moment is that just after they kill Takagi, Karl gives Theo money. They were betting on whether he'd give up the code or not. Always makes me chuckle a bit when that scene happens and when other people don't get it.
If I recall, there was massive controversy around Bruce Willis as the lead. He was cast based on his hit show at the time 'Moonlighting'. He'd never been the lead in the major movie AND they paid him a record $5 million for the role. The media was saying it was outrageous for an actor to be paid so much! LOL!
Money well spent for the BEST XMAS MOVIE OF ALL TIME!
Bruce Willis said Die Hard isn't a Christmas movie, however the Writer of the movie has said multiple times that it *is* a Christmas movie. I trust the writer's take more than Bruce's. 😏
It's still not Christmas until Hans Gruber falls off of Nakatomi Plaza. 🎄
It's not a Christmas Movie, though...It's a MOTHER-EFFING Bruce Willis Film. 🤣🤣
@@aTofuJunkie It can be both
@@TacoTuesday555Then Gremlins, Batman Returns, Twilight Breaking Dawn Part 2, Harry Pottter, Rocky 4, Mean Girls, Little Women, Parent Trap, Iron Man 3, Trading Places, Lethal Weapon, Hook, Jarhead, and Crash would all be Christmas Movies. Just because it takes place during Christmas time, doesn't make it a Christmas Movie.
also 20th Century Fox has also said and Placed it as a Christmas Movie so i think the Creator and Owner (Movie Studio) has all the say on what the movie is...but now if Disney wants to remove that Christmas status they can since the whole 2019 Disney-20th Century Fox Acquisition happened so that means Disney is the current Owner of Die Hard
The director said its a Christmas movie
I’m spending Christmas alone so honestly this means so much to me being able to watch a movie with you guys today
Me too. No family or friends.
@@billthomas478 Same...My late partners Birthday would have been today..26th Dec..Missing her very much.
Fun fact, the gentleman playing the limo driver Argyle was the child shot at by Ray Charles in The Blues Brothers for trying to steal a guitar from Ray's store.
Watched this the other day. All I could think during the whole movie was that they don't make them like they used to.
They didn't used to make them like this. That's why it was popular
@@godmagnus Exactly. In no era was this was the norm. It stood out then. Today, we have Carry On, Violent Night, John Wick, etc.
Merry Christmas to the Die Hardman family. 😂🎅🏻🎄
And any movie that has Alan Rickman saying “ Ho Ho Ho” is a Christmas movie.
It's not Christmas until Hans Gruber falls from Nakatomi Plaza. :)
Enjoyed the Christmas reaction. I never heard the take Jen had on John and Al having things to overcome in their personal lives (mistakes of the past). That was a fresh insight to me and that was cool to keep in mind watching this going forward.
Have a Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year :)
I feel Alan Rickman's performance elevates the movie above the humdrum actioner. His cool calm delivery backed up with deadly ruthlessness makes him a worthy adversary to McClane.
"Cheese & CRACKERS!!!" was a great reaction line! Merry Christmas, Hardmans.
This is one of the best Christmas movies to watch on Christmas
Merry Christmas, Holden and Jen! thank you for being my entertainment for today. spending it alone this year so its nice to see some friendly faces that always bring joy to my life when I watch your content.
BTW, Die Hard 1 and 2 are both Christmas movies lol
"Dont shoot another kid Al...."
Savage Holden lol
My favorite note about this movie is the fact that there were NO studio execs that wanted Willis for this film. His most well-known role to date at the time was "Moonlighting." Execs said "This guy does comedy! There's no way he can carry an action movie!"
Fast forward the end of the 90s and the casting work is being done for "The Whole Nine Yards" with Matthew Perry and those studio folks said "Bruce Willis? Are you crazy? He's an action guy, what does he know about comedy?"
Merry Christmas yall, I watched ur channel ever since my friend watches and binged Jen's journey of the MCU during my lunches in High School
Merry Christmas and Thanks for all you do🎄✨✝️Have a Nice Day💫
Thank you for this! Die Hard has been one of my Christmas traditions for several years, but i hadn't had a chance to watch it this year! This "cliff notes" version made the perfect solution!
I remember seeing this in the theater the first time, and when the movie was over, I was like, "Holy Crap! An ACTUAL edge of your seat film!"
A fun little joke, Ellis is introduced to John when he is caught snorting coke, he is killed talking to John while drinking a coke 😂 this and Die Hard 2 and Lethal Weapon 1-Christmas Must watch ❤️
Watched it with my Dad for the first time the other day. I loved it! Christmas classic for me!!
I love how Holden's on his second "innuendo", and the opening credits are still running. 😆
Also, Jen at 25:46 "Not making the FBI look very well" (the 1988 FBI)
FBI a few years later: "Hold my tear gas"
I always die laughing whenever Jenn breaks out all three names when Holden says something inappropriate
The trivia behind this movie is amazing . Bruce Willis was consider to be a joke to be cast in an action movie. The way the movie was shot changed action movies forever . Bruce lost some of his hearing due to the explosions and gun fire. Alan Rickman's first movie. The actor who played Karl was a world renown ballet dancer who's defection was made into a movie itself
Merry Christmas hardmans I’m 18 and I aspire to be like you guys in the future, giving me some needed joy on the 25th!
Merry Christmas ya filthy animals! 😂 And a Happy New Year! I hope you both have a wonderful, blessed, and Very Merry Christmas 🎄 today Holden and Jen!! Forever grateful to have found y’all’s channel last year and forever a supporter and fan of your content and channel!! 🫡❤️🙏🏻💯🇺🇸🎄
Merry Christmas to you and your family! Thank you for your amazing reactions!
Fun fact, when Hans (Alan Rickman) fell from the window they never told him they would release the cable to drop him so his reaction in the movie was a genuine shock from being let go from the cable
Awesome piece of trivia... The shot of Hans falling to his death was filmed by dropping Alan Rickman 40ft off a ledge onto crash pads and green screen. He his sh!ting bricks leading up to filming the scene and he got tricked... The stunt coordinator was told to give Rickman a count up to 3 but to drop him on 1 to make his look of shock and terror as he falls more genuine... Rickman wasn't very please immediately afterwards but respected it because he himself volunteered to do the stunt himself, an idea which the producers weren't very keen but gave it the go ahead in the end. 🎬
This is my family’s Christmas tradition. We watch it every year
Same. This and Home Alone.
@ we do this and The Santa Clause
7:47 I'm glad that I'm not the only one who not only noticed but acknowledged the german Jeffery Dahmer is in this movie! Merry Christmas! 🎄
Merry Christmas, Holden, Jen & family! 🎄 🎁 🎅
How has Jen gone THIS long without seeing Die Hard??? Holy crap!
I actually never seen Die Hard all the way through. But watching it with you guys on Christmas definitely is less lonely in the holidays.
I was 17 the year Die Hard came out and I love it. It has since become my tradition to watch on Christmas Eve; it is not Christmas Eve until Hans Gruber falls from the Nakatomi building. Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman were amazing. A few years ago, my friend Samantha gave me a book for Christmas titled A Die Hard Christmas; it tells the story of the movie in the style of The Night Before Christmas. I also have another book titled Why We Love Die Hard.
Merry Christmas Holden and Jen
Thanks for the Christmas wishes here watching and greatly appreciating this reaction as I do all your videos
merry christmas holden & jen ❄️
Holden: He wants to deck her halls... that's the last one, I swear!
Also Holden: Who's to say...
Merry Christmas Mrs. Hardman!!!
I got gifted a Christmas sweater this year, that says yippy ki yay with a mistletoe. Definitely a Christmas movie.
LOVE the sweater dood. That show was my childhood. Also hope you guys are having a Merry Christmas.
Merry Christmas to you guys and the little ones!
Shoutout to the Beretta APX for being a solid thumbnail prop. I love mine. John McLane’s Beretta is in a movie prop museum now. It’s the same prop pistol Mel Gibson used in the first Lethal Weapon. Happy Christmas!
Karl , the blond guy he was fighting had a Stey AUG that was a bad-ass assault rifle , I think it was a selective fire rifle that could fire in semi-automatic , full automatic and burst mode.
I can't complain about the tree being up - my grandfather still had Christmas decorations up on the outside of his house in July and would light them up at night.
FTR - For the record. Die Hard not only is a Xmas movie but: It is set at a Xmas Party, it entirely takes place on Xmas Eve and probably the early hours of Xmas Day. Die Hard has more references to Xmas (dialogue, music, set decorations, costuming) than Home Alone and Miracle on 34th Street - combined. There have been multiple studies done that show that die Hard is more Christmassy than most movies. It is not a traditional Xmas Movie but it is searched for and watched more at Xmas than any other time of the year. Most years i watch Scrooged and Die Hard Dec 23/24. some years i add A Muppet Christmas Carol to the watch list. Alan Freaking Rickman in his very 1st movie says the words "It's Christmas" Nuff said.
Director John McTiernan's next film after Predator (1987) and
loosely based on the Roderick Thorp novel,
"Nothing Lasts Forever" (1979).
Bruce Willis' 3rd film role and he became the highest paid film actor of the time ($5 mil).
This was after he released an album called "The Return of Bruno" and finishing his 5-season run
on the TV series, "Moonlighting".
Willis as McClane was known as America's unluckiest cop.
But as an flawed and relatable character, it made him beloved as an action hero.
The late, Alan Rickman (Hans Gruber) in his first feature film redefined onscreen villains,
one of several actors in the film who've passed away.
Many copycats were made.
Some were good and some weren't.
But it is a true summer blockbuster.
Considered to be The Greatest Action Film of it's time.
The late Michael Kamen's score and elements of Beethoven's Ode to Joy
really makes magic in this.
As it's only set during Christmas, it's only been seen as an Christmas film.
Of the 4 sequels, parts 2, 3 and 4 are pretty good.
The 5th and final one is not seen as an good finale.
Willis' retirement from acting in early 2022 after being
diagnosed with Aphasia was very unexpected.
His career reads over 100 roles, films and television.
As Detective John McClane, he'll never be forgotten.
Merry X-mas and Yippy-Ki-Yay, MuthaF****,
The movie EVERYBODY who is a reactor has watched, especially this year, Jen hadn't watched until this month!?! That's crazy! Just now watching the intro. Knowing how fun Jen can be reacting to films, this is going to be fun!
I like how the falling bond papers at the end looks like it's snowing. Just like a Christmas movie.
I don't know if you saw Nice guys (starring Gosling and Crowe), but that is a more recent action/detective/thriller movie with a lot of comedy which is hilarious and criminally underrated.
Die hard is an absolute classic, hope you guys are having great Christmas day. 😊
Holden keeps the hostages calm as Jen takes down the thieves.
Merry Christmas! What a perfect video for the season 😁👌
The police telling him to use 911 instead of chanel 9 is pretty realistic, its a reserved channel for emergency services to talk to each other, too many pranksters could abuse the system, plus they already got a call from Nakatomi plaza telling them they had a bogus fire alarm.
plus it was pre-9/11 and the police were far more inclined to believe someone calling in a terrorist incident was a prankster rather than serious
"Channel 9" is just a CB channel, by convention used for emergencies and assistance, that can be used by anyone. It's not a public safety specific channel and is not generally monitored by police/etc. Though of course public safety and other radios may have a "channel number 9" if they have more than 8 frequencies programmed. Not that the bad guys would likely be using CB HTs anyway, they would be more likely VHF and/or UHF which is also what they look more like. In general the radio use in this movie wouldn't make a ton of sense IRL but it's not what most people would consider a big flaw in the movie.
Bit of trivia, Bruce Willis was shooting Moonlighting a TV show he was on at the same time as this. He did Moonlighting during the day and Die Hard at night. And the 640 million in bearer bonds would be worth 1.8 billion today 😮
Not a bad heist .
So he did Moonlighting during the day, and moonlighting during the night.
@@DLites151 Boo!!
@@vdoggydogg3922 thank you for noticing
@@DLites151 you are not welcome for the terrible joke.
If a movie, during the opening credits, features the GREATEST Christmas song of ALL TIME, it is ABSOLUTELY a Christmas movie.
Holden and Jen do the best youtube reactions cant wait for 2025 reactions. Holdens irish accents are the best ever.
"Die Hard" is indeed my favorite Christmas movie since I began watching it on Christmas Day as a 19-year-old back in 2021, and it became an essential and mandatory Christmas viewing. Who knows, maybe it might be my favorite action movie of all time, hands down.
Merry Christmas and yippee-ki-yay to you and your loved ones!🙂🎄🎁✨️
5:45 Jen might remember Mr. Takagi’s voice from Mulan. James Shigeta, the actor who plays Takagi, voiced General Li in Mulan.
One of my favorite CHRISTMAS movies lol. Great reaction guys...Jen had some priceless faces 😂
Absolutely love this movie! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Literally just finished rewatching die hard 10mins ago
Merry Christmas to you and family man!!
I love this channel, and I love this movie and the whole franchise! I hope you continue to watch the Die Hard series. And for the record, it very much IS a Christmas movie - it takes place at Christmas, the theme is about McClane trying to save his wife (and the other hostages) - what's more Christmassy than trying to be with your loved ones? There are Christmas songs sprinkled throughout the movie. He writes HO-HO-HO on the first "terrorist" he kills. There are several shots that you can see Christmas trees in. Christmas packing tape to hide the gun on his back at the end. Not to mention that the entire reason that the "terrorists" are doing this at this time, is because of the building being nearly empty because its Christmas, and they have only a small, manageable amount of hostages because of a Christmas party. Without Christmas, this movie wouldn't be what it is. And yes, Bruce Willis said that it's not a Christmas movie, but you also have to take into account that he said that at a Roast, an event where damn near everything said, is a joke. Also, I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the main writer of the movie said that it IS a Christmas movie.
And also, I love that this is, arguably, one of the greatest action movies ever made. It still holds up so well!
It’s obvious Bruce was under duress when he made that statement 🤯
The asphasia was likely kicking in by that point.
3:28 😂😂 what you put in my boy eggnog 😂😂😂. Bro started off firing on all cylinders 😂
I saw Die Hard in the cinema way back in 1988 as a teenager and absolutely fell in love with it then and it still stands out as such a great action movie today (and just a great movie overall). The director, John McTiernan, also directed Predator which is great. I think those are his two most popular ones.
But just an awesome movie. Freakin love ALL of it and really hope you watch at least the next two Die Hards. They're both great.
Merry Christmas!! :)
How Dumbledore falls off the Tower when he is killed by snape is the same shot as how Hans gruber dies.
Merry Christmas to both of you and your families. I love this movie. I remember it being the first ever DVD that I bought back when DVD players were like $700. I hope Lethal Weapon gets a run too. Both classic 80s action flicks.
I have a similar memory, but my first DVD was the original Matrix. I still have both that DVD & the old $700 Panasonic DVD player from back in the late 90s kicking around somewhere.
Just love how the police radio lady didn't catch on right away....wow
First, if it happens during Christmas time, let alone Christmas eve. It's a Christmas movie. Just like Lethal Weapon. Second, fun fact during filming. Actor Alan Rickman was told they were going to count to three to let him go at the end scene when he is falling. They let him on two, so his face reaction him falling was for real because he really got scared and was not ready for it. Third and finally, the second movie is also a Christmas and I would watch up to the third movie. Merry Christmas
the article i saw said they dropped him on one, not two
Idc what anyone says Die Hard is 100% a Christmas Movie lol
When they dropped Alan Rickman for the final scene. They deliberately lie on how they were going to do it to get a genuine response from him. They gave him a count and said they would drop him at a certain number but they dropped him early on purpose to get the right response.
Every man's Christmas movie. I watch it every year around this time, the goat.
Just the sound of that jet flying in brings back memories. Saw this when it came out on biggest screen in Ireland at the time. I thought it was a real plane flying overhead.
To answer Jen's question about the movie 'Entrapment', I did see it (more than one), loved it, and I dream about CZJ's "Laser" dance on a regular basis. Also, in 2005, as a computer security consultant, I spend three days in those Petronas Towers (in Kuala Lampur, Malaysia), looking around continually for Catherine the whole time I was there. Between us, of course. I can't have my wife find out about that obsession.
First off hello and Rest in peace Alan Rickman aka Hans Gruber! Yippee ki yay mothfuka, welcome to the party, and Merry Christmas Holden, Mary, and family! Have a Happy New Year! Die Hard is one of my favorite Christmas movies of all time along with A Christmas Story, National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, The Muppet Christmas Carol, Black Christmas (1974), Lethal Weapon, Home Alone, Batman Returns, Iron Man 3, and Ernest Saves Christmas. 🎅🏻🎁🎄🎊🎉🎈
Alan's expression when he fell was real. They told him they were going to drop him on 3 and let him go on 2.😂
Ah, good call on remembering Alexander Gudinov from the Money Pitt with Tom Hanks and Shelly Long. Love that:)
Merry Xmas guys!! And happy new year!
hope u guys have a great Christmas 🙏
In almost every project I worked on, I had an opportunity to use the line "quit being part of the problem".
Argyle the limo driver at the end of the movie confirmed this was a Christmas movie by saying, " if this was your idea for Christmas I gotta be here for New Years.
One of the things I really appreciate about Die Hard is the subtle ways that most of Hans' crew had a chance to show some aspect of their personality and weren't just background henchmen. I the little bet between Karl and Theo, Uli taking a candy bar, and of course Fritz and his hair. On the other hand, that Tony wore sweats to a heist is just a little peculiar.
I wish you both a Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas Holden and Jen and the rest of the family have a great big christmas do it hard die hard, die hard the movie
fun fact what inspired this movie is the creator/writer of Die Hard had Writers Block while trying to write the main plot of the script which at some point he had a intense argument with his wife so he went for a late-night drive to cool off and while driving he was coming around a curve at a high speed and in his lane was a Refrigerator Box and he braced for his death from impact...but Luckly the Box was Empty and when he got home he apologized to his wife it was that fear and survival of near Death experience that helped develop the main Focus and Drive Conclusion to Die Hard to survive and say I'm sorry to the one you love
Merry Christmas 🌲
Merry Christmas! I was watching while cooking Christmas dinner.
My prayers go out to Bruce and his family for what they are going through
"I'm not the one who just got butt f****ed on national TV Dwayne" this line get's me every time😂😂
December 15th was my family’s traditional day of putting up the Christmas Tree. Down around Jan 5th.
The best part of Hans is the death scene - it was real. They actually dropped Alan Rickman out of the building onto a massive inflated landing bag, and then removed the bag in post-production. But Rickman was, understandably, VERY nervous. They told him they'd count to three and let go of him. He psyched himself up, and said "Do it." They counted, "One" - and let go of him. They caught him so off guard with the early release that the reaction to the fall you see in the movie is the REAL shot with his actual reaction. He was terrified. The only thing you don't see in the shot is the inflated bag that caught him.
One of the best film trivia factoids ever.
Merry Christmas you two and to the whole family from cold wintery Nova Scotia Canada 🇨🇦❤️🇨🇦 Also Die Hard is a Christmas movie. I'd get into the why, but that would take too long, Ho Ho Ho!
