Great job man and very good workmanship and explained amazing. I actually did one after watching this video of your work with concrete walls and steps. Great job.
Interesting build. Can you provide an update? How has this held up? I'm doing something similar but will pour the stepped footing for the entire stairwell all at once, reinforcing it with rebar. I'll also be adding vertical rebar in the wall, a top bond beam, and solid filling the block.
I know its been a while since you did this and this is exactly what I want to do. Couple questions. 1. What part of the US do you live? Im in ohio and winter freeze is an issue that can effect footers. 2. You have sump pump could you have tied into the French drain that feeds the sump? 3. have you had any water problems with the stair walls? 4. Ya wanna come help me. lol
George, great video. Thank you. When you dug up to connect to sump, wasn't there a pipe already? Usually, houses with sumps have a pipe all around the perimeter of the house right? Did you underpin the retaining walls to the foundation like 42 or 48 inches deep down? Is it important to underpin to the foundation?
It was a massive effort. It took 100 bags of Sakrete and almost that many mortar and about 200 blocks. The length of time is difficult to say because I did it at my leisure and it was over four weeks, but with help and if you worked on it everyday, maybe a week.
Is there a reason you put the sump inside? I feel like you could have just put it outside right under the drain and then drained at the top of soil past the walls?
Hi and sorry for the delay. The pump needs to be inside in the conditioned space or you could have frozen water in the pit. Also the electricity and pump equipment is better shielded nside. That is the typical way of doing it.
Good work brother! If you don't mind me asking how much did you roughly spend on this entire project? Asking because my home is around 20 years old, and I am looking to do something like this or pay someone else to do it.
Sorry for the late reply, I din't think anyone would look at it...lol, It was a massive effort. It took 100 bags of Sakrete and almost that many mortar and about 200 blocks. That would have been an improvement but I was planning on tiling hte basement floor so straight lines were not important. As far as the footing goes, I never touched the footing. Thanks for the tip.
Water was going to come in by itself. I am just channeling in to the sum pump and the pump sends it away from the house. Look up sump pumps online for more info.

This is exactly the video I needed to consider doing this myself! Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
Great video
Well done! Thanks for takin time to make a video!
My pleasure!
Well done.
We've filmed and done plenty basement digouts but have yet to do a walkout ! These are such a cool feature
As a pro, yours will likely be done by a crew and will likely be better. I was attempting to show the lone wolf that it can be done.
This did come out a lot nicer than expected when I saw it being built as you went. instead of (footings, foundation walls, stairs) nice job
Thank you

Awesome, thank you!
Thanks
This is so helpful, thank you.

Sorry for the delayed response. You can tie into the drain.
Good job .
Thank you!

Sorry for the late reply, I don't come here much but I should. My house did not have a sump.
Well done!! Massive effort... How many days did this take you?

Wow...its beautiful.....you made a basement walkout like you were baking a cake..Im getting a walkout. How much did it cost?
Hard to say but under 1000
Did you need any footers for the block walls or do you get any frost there?
yes, footers are needed
Can you send me the dimensions of this project? I’d like to know exactly how wide and how long away from the house the dig is.

Hope your flooring with be super thin
I'm just curious did you consult with a structural engineer before doing any of this?
Not necessary for this simple job. You should consult with one if you aren't sure.
I have a basement that either needs a door or 2 windows for some kind of escape route, roughly what would it cost to have this done?
I did it myself. The price I got for someone else doing it was 8000. It is labor intensive work, thus the cost.
(Approximately) How much did you spend?
I didn't keep track but it was close to 1000
Good work brother! If you don't mind me asking how much did you roughly spend on this entire project? Asking because my home is around 20 years old, and I am looking to do something like this or pay someone else to do it.
I probably spent 2000 on the stairs alone.
How many days did this take from start to finish?

How long did it take?
Could have done it faster but I was working on it part time. THe job could be done in a week with help.
Awesome
Thank you!
i think you should have cut the floor first then use the jackhammer or get the floor out, that insures the integrity of the footer this does not
That would have been an improvement but I was planning on tiling hte basement floor so straight lines were not important. As far as the footing goes, I never touched the footing. Thanks for the tip.
Is it against code to tie this in to the sewer system of your house?
I did not tie into the water system in the house and yes that would be illegal.
Do you want to come and do my house? lol
No thank you!...lol
This will only work in warm climates
Maryland can be warm but anywhere with temps above forty should work.
Not sure why you would purposely bring outside water inside the house
Water was going to come in by itself. I am just channeling in to the sum pump and the pump sends it away from the house. Look up sump pumps online for more info.
easily done by hand... lol
Hardly...lol
10 years & the block walls are up against the door frame. This job is a disaster
How long did the job take?
Grumpy...lol, I think it turned out nicely, but critique away, I am happy with the results. Cheers!

Did you put any steel in the walls?
@@allanbekkala2440 Yes, there is a mesh that is sold to reinforce walls.
