I did think the same, a very helpful video though, I'd just rather it wasn't done in such an obvious place, if any of the neighbours new the regs they're be out there in a shot.
I found that you can very easily push out the metal pins on the side brackets to remove the original plastic springy clips, then replace the pins (without the plastic clips and springs). That will allow you to put a thin battery strap through those side arms. The strap will just slide between the side piece and the now exposed metal pin. That seems to work very well and I can use an 850mAH HV Lipo and stay below 250g total. I hope I explained that in a way that makes sense. I just thought to try it this morning but I'm sure I'm not the first to do it.
though I think for those flatter shaped LiHV batteries you are using in this video, the side posts may be too high for the strap to make contact with the top of the battery (I wrote the above comment before watching most of the video). And in that case, you would have to cut the plastic sides a bit shorter. I guess it depends on whether you would ever want to go back to the iFlight batteries. But even so, you could still use those with a strap
That 450 pack was holding the Voltage good during the current spike loads, sounded more like the bottleneck of the setup might be the props unable to keep its shape during higher load/ RPM !? Nice work 👍
Hi Arild, thanks, the voltage limit will be on the speed controllers (esc's) its normally 6S (25-27V) but if you go too high with this high KV motor you'll lose efficiency and power and the motors will just get hot and burn up without producing any more useable RPM.
I'd call that move a wing-over maneuver or if you want to feel like a ww1 French flying ace you can call it a Chandelle. I'd be interested in what a snow boarder in a half pipe would call it?
Im getting a iflight defender 25, was going to get the dji goggles (new one) / controller but I've seen other controllers out there and i see youre not using the dji controller. Which controller would you recommend? Thanks
Hi, watched a item about using Toroidal props on boat how efficient and more power and ultra quite, Lincoln University have designed some for drones that seem to have same quality as for boats.
So if you are just whooping/cruising and not doing tricks and flips the heavy battery 'tames' it a bit, or is it better to limit the throttle in BF. is it plausible a naked could fit on with a 450? and be under 250?
hi i never had an fpv and was looking to buy one, do you think this is too hard for a first fpv drone experience or not? i should go to an avata first? thanks
If anybody knows how to bind this drone I'd really appreciate any advice. I bought a Defender 16 and a Defender 25. The 16 no longer flies after I've been trying to bind it to the goggles. I still can't find any bind button on the Defender 25 and I don't want to poke anything inside again incase I break this one also. I wish I had bought the DJI drone, this nano button binding nonsense is totally frustrating... and in my case fatal.
have you upgraded the beta flight on your Defender 25? I did and lost the light on the back for the battery power I have looked for months and also installed GPS that doesn't work on 4.4. I tried to downgrade the firmware and I'm doing something wrong
You should be able to download the betaflight settings from iFlight, could try sending them a message. I usually just leave the quad on whatever BF it's on unless there's a feature I really want from a newer BF version 😁
So I managed to strip the proprietry 550 MaH battery and you can use the top part of the cover only with a 720 MaH HV Lipo that clips in perfectly keeping the battery secure without 3D Printing anything. Still all below 250 grams. Shame I cannot share the photos I have.
@@andykirby Just been looking at the iflight battery wondering if you could remove the 550 MaH inside, clip off the connector and slip in a 720MaH and cover with Black nasty tape. There seems to be 2 screws at the bottom (Connector Side). This would then enable the use the iFlight restraing clips.
Learning curvre for me but interesting to watch..keep going im learning...when are you going to join the Ukrainian 🇺🇦 drone team..luv the video Andy, one day you must to do a complete drone video..the bits you need, and some expert advice so knobs like me can keep up ..I liked the video..well done.but I hate the prop noise.sounds like a dentist drill..lol.🤣💖
Hey mate! Good idea about the complete drone video, that could be useful for some like yourself who wants to understand more. It can be a deeply technical hobby but you are a smart guy 😁
You can hi volt charge any Lipo, it just shortens their lifespan....Your not doing our hobby any favours making that din with houses so close by Andy, just saying mate...They already hate us...including the CAA...😳😳😳😏🇬🇧
RUclips processing is slow tonight guys, sorry we are stuck in 360p at the moment, hopefully it'll resolve itself soon. 🤷🏻♂️
Very helpful. Adding remote ID and I do not want to solder anything. Using these batteries I can now run it off the balance port. Thank you!
Hi Andy,
How do you make the goggles indicate low battery with a voice to you? Is it some setting in Betaflight or goggles? Couldn't find it.
3 hours of quad testing in a public park next to houses with that noise... They must have loved that 😉👍

No more loud than a bunch of kids haha

looks amazing, i wonder what set up would be best for a naked gopro and maybe gps? to get under 250g i'm thinking.
Nice video Andy! How many volts can the motors take? Without getting burnded?? The best from LB1NH in Oslo 🙂

this was a great experiment

Can I use 4s Lipos with an xt60 to xt30 adapter?

Great battery review! Some good saves with the tree! 😆

How big of a battery could you fit it before the weight to power ratio stars "degrading" the experience
could you please share the PID, rate profile settings?

The LEDs might be tied to an AUX channel in the modes tab of BF configurator (you know where you assign switches etc)

Amazing, feel free to post on our discord in the FPV section! discord.gg/EeVggnUegS
Thanks man I needed this. Going to buy an extra defender pack just in case
Are the batteries that you used 3S??
4S

What about lihv 850?
Use mushroom tape! Hard velcro!!

The battery is a dealbreaker unfortunately…
Can’t see if it is swelling
its not a regular lipo

360p, shocking. I thought i had Cataracts !!!🤣🤣
Has it sorted itself now?
