If the rot affecting the brain’s decision is a real thing, it seems that as long as you have something you care for very deeply, you’ll retain that aspect of yourself. Radahn still kept the stars at bay and still hovered over his horse even after becoming bestial.

with Malenia fighting Radhan in Caelid and having Moghwyn’s palace being under Caelid and so close to Nokron. We know Miquella made the unalloyed gold needles to prevent Outer Gods influence but if Mogh brought Miquella to ascend to Godhood, perhaps the Hidden Treasure of Nokron plays a part, being a tool to harm the Greater Will and its Vassels. And it’s strange that the Finger Slayer blade was created from a corpse. Who’s body formed the blade?

    • @dannyarcana0017
      @dannyarcana0017 2 года назад +9

A few things as well, the portal in consecrated snowfield could be how mohg stole Miquella, also the finger slayer blade is shaped similar a black knife, which are connected to pieces of the rune of death. It is also intresting that the gold needle we find for millicent, is found broken presumbly where Malenia and Radahn fought, yet Gowry was able to fix it. Gowry, an unknown, mortal sage, fixed a device one of the smartest demigods crafted to try and cure his sister with. That, as well as according to the rotten wing insignia, he helped guide millicent's four sisters to the haligtree already. Also, according to the normal Wing Insignia, Malenia was referred to as Malenia the Severed. Now that might refer to her prosthetics, but what if, similar to a plant, Malenia's Scarlet bloom plant caused parts of her to split apart, such as her will and such, and these parts instead manifested as Millicent and her sisters.

I think in a sort of Nausicaa-esque way, the game tries to tell us that Scarlet Rot isn't a negative force, just one that's inhospitable to human life. Miquella and Malenia are the cycle of birth and decay, but one creature's decay is another's birth. One of the most emotional moments of the game for me was coming upon the pests in Elphael's cemetery. Adult and child kindred of rot, basking in the sun, holding ritual services, caring for one another. But it's so alien to us as a tarnished, that what can we do but burn it to the ground?
This is also why Gowry is so upset at the end of Millicent's quest. Malenia, Millicent, the deities of rot scorn their own gift, their own curse, and thereby also scorn all things granted life by it, and that sure has to suck when you're one of the things granted life by it.
Regarding the need to fight Radahn, ultimately what it gets us is access to Nokron. It's possible that Malenia DID know more about Miquella's location than it seems, and the one thing she didn't know is that the bridge from Mohgwyn to Nokron proper had been destroyed. Considering the ruinous state of the city outskirts as a whole, I had originally assumed that the weathering of time had put it in that state, but there is a lot more "rubble" on that bridge than any of the other ruins. What if Malenia had originally thought to enter Mohgwyn by way of Nokron, after gaining access by unlocking the stars?

    • @rohiogerv22
      @rohiogerv22 2 года назад +2

@@ComradeOgilvy369 that's entirely possible. My personal feeling is that a few stray lines of dialogue have caused people to draw a whole bunch of conclusions about what Malenia does and doesn't know. The way I see it, Radahn kicked Malenia's ass, and we find her waking up, or at the very least getting up, from a rest.
How's your mind going to be doing, moments after waking up from what is possibly a months- or years-long nap (at least long enough that numerous landmarks in Caelid seem built around the rot)? Sometimes I forget where I'm waking up after laying down for a few hours. Perhaps she forgot that he was missing. Or perhaps she slept so long that she figured, one way or another, he'd overcome Mohg and make his way back by the time she awoke. In any case, I think it's counterintuitive to assume Malenia is out fighting wars while her brother is missing, and those don't have anything to do with him. She's picking her targets for SOME reason, and Miquella's disappearance is clearly at the top of her mind.

I simply think she attempted the war with Radahn for he announced he will finally charge into Leyndell and become Elden Lord. Malenia knowing this is bad for the Haligtree’s rule decided to stop that at all costs. It is further implied that Radahn indeed had ambitions for the Erdtree as the opening shows him being stomped my Morgott when he was much younger.

Here's what I've been gathering from this video and all the comments. I don't think Miquella and Malenia cared about ruling the lands between or something of the sorts. And I'm pretty sure Radahn did attack the capital, but Morgott and the leyndell army were able to defend the capital warding Radahn and his army back to caelid. I think Miquella "disappeared" before Malenia went out to fight Radahn in caelid, like the video points out I believe it was a mystery to Malenia and their followers as to why Miquella disappeared (to which we know Mohg took him). Now, I obviously can't say this for sure and don't have proof that it's the case, but I believe Malenia can somewhat sense Miquella, because she went all the way to caelid for some reason that wasn't a Rune shard (or else Godrick wouldn't be spared). So why do I think she can sense Miquella and why is that important? Well because Miquella is found in the Mohgwyn palace, which so happens to be below caelid and right under Radahn's boss arena. And feeling so close to Miquella perhaps she thought Radahn was to blame for his disappearance.

@@revlismorningstar825 There is only one problem with this line of thinking with regards to Malenia searching for Miquella. When you realize that Mohg took Miquella after Malenia's fight with Radahn. Mohg takes full advantage of Malenia's weakened state and while she sleeps, Mohg carves Miquella from the Haligtree. Malenia when at full strength would never allow Mohg to take Miquella from the Haligtree, and Mogh himself would never have taken that chance either (Not a single one of them would dare head into the Haligtree with ill intent knowing Malenia is at full strength). So with that knowledge the whole line of storytelling where Malenia potentially reaches Caelid because she was looking for Miquella, however cool it may sound, kind of falls apart at the seams. There are a couple of other reasons backed up by lore in the game that support other reasons for Malenia fighting Radahn.

My continued theory on the DLC is that we're time traveling in both directions (I hope). To fight a healthy Radahn, or to help Ranni in the night of the black knives. Or, to the future to fight miquella when he emerges from his cocoon as either himself, or by the alias of Mohgwyn. Mohg had been corrupting Miquella with his blood, and wanted to become his consort because of Miquella's god-like allure. Mohg is ridiculed as a lunatic, it would be very intriguing to see a glimpse at the Mohgwyn dynasty/what Mohg'a corruption eventually did to Miquella, and how mad at us he will be for murdering his sister he devoted his life to curing.
I don't know. It'd be cool to see Godwyn, Gransax, Placidusax, Melania, Radahn, and Miquella in healthy states. I have a very very very strong feeling we will get to see these things (considering Slave Knight Gael, and sister Frieda's difficulty in the DS3 DLCs, I'd bet we're gonna get some crazy fights. That, and time travel has already happened in DS1 and DS2)

Until I read that Bewitching Branch. You can do a LOT of messed up things with a Bewitching Branch, and if Miquella's natural divine gifts met or exceeded that item's power... Well, that would explain quite a bit wouldn't it? Including his dear sister's unwavering devotion, the legions of followers and Mohg's obsession. I'm not saying he didn't care about his sister, but sifting through the lore has left me with a very firm impression of the demi-gods. My thought was that Malenia was fighting Radahn to keep him from becoming Elden Lord. The Haligtree was obviously set up in opposition to the Erdtree. Radahn was considered the most powerful of the Demigods and the most likely candidate to become the next Elden Lord, possibly in support of the golden order. I assumed that Miquella was stolen from the Haligtree while Malenia was absent and unable to defend him. The Haligtree accepted all the mistreated, so Mohg was likley allowed to enter as a mistreated Omen, and then uses his own power to spirit him away. She returns and he is gone, so she awaits his return, not realizing he was stolen away.
Malenia definitely isn't evil and was taught to keep the scarlet rot at bay by the very warrior who originally defeated it. She was definitely desperate though in her fight with Radahn, I fight we can assume she was losing until that point where she unleashes the scarlet rot. That would lend credence to the theory she was searching for Miquella, but could also mean she was so devoted to Miquella that she was willing to do anything to further his cause, perhaps without realizing the devastation it would cause to Caelid, and eventually the Haligtree without Miquella there.

Neither radahn nor melania seem the sort to seek a fight with the other, neither of their ambitions or goals aligned at all, yet so much of the story and lore go into explaining their character. Melania's 2 motivations have always been to neutralize and overcome her curse of rot, and supporting her brother care for the mistreated and provide sanctuary to the outcasts (as close to a selfless and altruist as I've seen in a fromsoft game). So her seeking radahn just for the sake of a fight never sat right with me, and the only person melania would go so far for is Miquella, so this does add a lot of context to one of the most important events of elden ring

After that, like the Frenzied Flame, we can choose the sole option to "Begin the Age of Haligtree." I want to start off by saying the video was very well done and I appreciate the time you put in to look into all of this and find information. I also want to say thank you for pointing out that Malenia is NOT a villain or "bad guy" like some people pain her. The prequel to this game is a war, not honorary battle between demigods or some sort of game to draw lines for control in the Lands Between but all out WAR. Malenia used every thing she had, even putting her life on the line by blooming, to try and help her brother reach his potential and do what he thought was best for not only himself and his sister but for the people that were called to the Haligtree for protection. I do believe that Miquella and Malenia were, in my opinion, the most kind of the demigods and I do believe Miquella wanted nothing more than to do the right thing. I also believe Malenia wanted the same but she understood the world was cruel and someone would need to fight and bloody their sword to reach the goal of peace. These two characters, for me at least, are the most interesting and in depth characters in the game. One wishes to change the world for the better with his mind and own will but doesn't have the physical ability to do so and the other understands that battles and wars are hell but are necessary in this situation to bring forth peace. The chemistry between the two and the overall story arc of the two demigods is by far the best in the game and definitely deserves more love in a DLC if at all possible. Great video thank you for shedding some light on my favorite character in Malenia and showing some love to a very interesting and mysterious character with Miquella.

Malenia’s definitely not evil. The only characters in the game who are straight up evil are Mohg and Rykard. No on blames Malenia for being born with the Scarlet Rot affliction.
However, Malenia isn’t good either due to what she did to Caelid. Being born with rot was not her fault, but her decision to set off a bio-nuke in Caelid is 100% a choice she made. That is something she could control and she wilfully made the decision to infect a whole region of the Lands Between.
That’s why Malenia cannot be considered good, but she isn’t evil either IMO.

@@uzicarries8582 Not really. We know Radahn was probably one of the nicest demigods. I mean the fact he waited for Malenia to fix her arm so she could fight properly is proof enough that he at least had a sense of honour.
Also Malenia challenged him, he did not challenge her. If all he cared about was power and wanted her Great Rune, why did he respectfully allow Malenia to fix herself before fighting? Doesn’t make any sense. Also, don’t forget that we have absolutely no evidence the demigods even cared about each others Great Runes. For example, on her way to Caelid with her Cleanrot army, Malenia fought Godrick, but only did so after he insulted her and when he obviously lost, she spared his pathetic life and did NOT take his Great Rune. Radahn also did not bother laying siege to Stormveil even though he knew Godrick was there. Two of the strongest demigods and neither of them bothered to claim a very easy prize of Godrick’s Great Rune. Kind of odd if their goal was power don’t you think?
Also, why would fighting Radahn have anything to do with Miquella? We have no lore implying that Malenia thought Radahn had something to do with her brothers disappearance.

If the dlc comes and it's focused on Miquella, he'll be an enemy. In the intro, Mohg is carrying Miquella's body and not a cocoon. Mohg was treating or giving Miquella the cursed blood of the outer god he made contact with. That could be the reason for Miquella maturing. The cocoon Miquella's in now is more than likely the making of Mohg and the blood god he's working with. I think Miquella is somewhat conscious because when we enter the arena, his hand is raised out of a cracked cocoon. And as we approach it drops leaking blood on the floor to summon or bring out Mohg. If you don't visit the 3 fingers, you still have Miquella's needle that can reject influence from outer gods. Why would we have that and not need it?

    • @justindailey84
      @justindailey84 2 года назад +7

Alright, I'm going to try and rebut and clarify some things you have said.
I think the cocoon was there from the beginning and mohg came back for it or made a new one as you see tons of these cocoons in the haligtree.
Also, Miquella is completely asleep. When we come in Miquella's arm drops and then the blood pools down and Mogh comes out of the blood. Mogh sleeps with Miquella and when he leaves the cocoon he does so by turning into blood, causing the arm to drop, and then run off his arm to meet us. He litterally never looked at us but knew we were there before turning around.
I agree there is a chance Miquella will be a boss corrupted by the blood or invade his mind and fight the blood queen.
The needle was just a way to get out of the finger ending.

Malenia fought radahn because he was holding the stars with his magic and she needed the skies to move again so that the eclipse spoken of at castle Sol would happen, this eclipse is mentioned at the castle by the ghosts who served Miquella. We know Miquella was creating a new "erdtree" with himself in a cocoon inside the roots, the place we would eventually end up fighting Malenia. So Miquella needed the eclipse ritual to be "reborn" as a full god (griffith anyone?) Miquella did this also to finally stop being stuck as a child and to obtain enough power to save Malenia from the influence of the god of rot, we can use his unalloyed needle on ourselves to nullify the frenzied flame god influence but the game says the needle is inperfect and van only be used in the heart of farum azula . Malenia went to confront Radahn to defeat him and make the skies move again but they both lost, the skies were frozen still, there was no eclipse and the haligtree never truly flourished to its full potential, Miquella was kidnapped by Mohg as he slept in the cocoon while Malenia was out fighting battles. Malenia woke up with no brother knowing she had failed and too weak to look for him.
But we defeat Radahn, (who wasn't entirely unjustified freezing the heavens, the guy was just trying to avoid as much as he could the influence of outer gods who were not the greater will, because they all see the lands between as free real estate and are constantly fighting through proxies and agents to get a hold of it and become its ruler), the skies are now moving again so the eclipse can happen now, and we also defeat Mohg. So an eclipse dlc with Miquella finally hatching from the cocoon is quite possible.

I also believe that Malenia fought Radahn under the impression that he had done something to Miquella. It makes you wonder just *how* did Mogh achieve to steal him, in the middle of the Shattering, no less.
Of course, as an Omen, he would be welcome in the Haligtree, and allowed to wander around as he pleased, so it wouldn't be hard to find Miquella, but once he had the cocoon, which is pretty big, I wonder how did he carry it without being noticed (I think the picture shown in the intro of Mogh holding Miquella out of the egg happens when they're already at Moghwyn Palace, since Mogh has his trident).
It's also worth noting that the Siofra River well in Caelid, which would be used to reach Moghwyn Palace, is at the bottom of a chasm, blocked by an imp statue, and guarded by Vulgar Militia, those weird rock worm guys, and I think a golem with a spear too. I believe Mogh installed all the enemies and blockages as a safe measure in case Malenia figured Radahn didn't do anything to her brother and she had been deceived.

I think it's worth remembering that not all of Malenia's actions might have been her choice, and not necessarily because her brain was rotting. Several item descriptions refer to a goddess of rot that clearly predates Malenia (Scorpion's Stinger, Blue Dancer Charm, Aeonian Butterflies, etc.) and Miquella's Needle was made to "ward away the meddling of outer gods." Clearly then, her rot isn't just a disease, it has something to do with the Goddess of Rot. Whether this goddess is trying to possess her or she is some sort of budding reincarnation of this goddess is anyone's guess, but the point is that the Goddess of Rot certainly has it's own agenda and is using Malenia to achieve it. And the fact that you find the needle which was supposed to keep Malenia free of this goddess broken in the swamp of Aeonia probably means that it was broken in the battle with Radahn and that's why the Rot was free to bloom.
Basically, Malenia didn't nuke Caelid. The Goddess of Rot did it through her because the battle left her vulnerable.
Also, if you look at the map, the Mogwyn palace is right under Caelid. It's possible she didn't have any beef with Radahn, she just figured she had to go through him to reach her brother.

Millicents questline heavily implies that Malenia was controlled by an outer god. It's why Miquella wanted to make the needle which resists the outer gods will. Great video though, I enjoyed it

When I look at Malenia, I don’t see a Demi-goddess, I see a warrior. A warrior that is tired, having been suffering and seeks only to rid herself of her curse. She will not fall easily, she will not surrender, she will give you an honorable battle.
She’ll also kick your a$$ 100 times before she even gets to phase 2.

Radahn's great rune's description mentions that it burns and holds back the scarlet rot from destroying it, maybe that's what Malenia was looking for as a potential cure to the rot?

Radahn wasn't infected with the rot prior to Malenia's campaign. The Rune burning would have been as a result of the Aeonia exploding.

She unleashed the damn rot on Caelid, Radahn even when brain rotted was selfless and did his best to protect everyone from unholy star beasts trying to kill us all. While I can feel sorry for her lot in life, she CHOSE to unleash the rot when she was losing to Radahn. Who I feel because he was holding back the stars, didn't unleash his full power on her thus ending her then and there. Plus his freaking honor keeping from striking her down. Radahn will now and always be the MLG.

Malenia is also holding back Rot and refusing to Ascend into a Goddess, until her 3rd bloom when we kill her , so Radahn wasn't the only one holding back.
Radahn was also not a blind, triple amputee , and given they both started the fight already injured (as confirmed by the animator who worked on the cinematic) , them reaching a stalemate makes sense.

Keep in mind that Radahn supports the Golden Order that is very discriminative, while Malenia supports Miquella who wants to help the misbegottens and albinaurics. Radahn is the more honorable warrior, but Malenia fights for the better cause.

As I see it, Malenia CHOSE to unleash scarlet rot instead of retreating. So basically, before she retreated, she CHOSE to use chemical weapon on Caelid, if thats not villain, I dont know what is.

Truman did the same thing. Choose to use one devastating weapon to end a war...

@@darkhobo she was the aggressor though. She invaded Caelid to get Rahdan's rune and nuked caelid to avoid losing to him. Whatever genuine love she has for her brother is completely overshadowed by her disregard for any life that isn't Miquella.

@@Hi-Hi1990 she wasn't after his rune. She passed up, Rykard, Morgott, Renalla, Godrick just to get a single rune when she would have wanted them all? She wasn't there for the rune but something more serious.
It's likely she was opposing the golden order. Radahn being a fan boy of the order made him a huge issue especially since he was comtroll the stars. It's likely she wanted to end his reign. That or she thought he was the reason Miquella was gone. You just can't know for a fact why she did but we can logically reduce it wasn't for the rune.
Also, in a war there are no villains or heroes. Just multiple sides who think THEY are the righteous side. If she was there to end Radahn any and all who sided with him were their enemy.

we have to realize there are no villains in this story when it comes to the demigods

@@justindailey84 It makes perfect sense that she went after Radahn first, he was the strongest of the lot. If she could take him, the rest would cave easier. Had she, on the other hand, dissipated her strength on the lesser enemies first, Radahn would have had more time to get allies and get stronger, and Malenia would have had an even harder time defeating him.

I'd be interested to fight the miquella mohg was creating. His cursed blood drove tarnished mad, I wonder if miquellas treatments were the same as used in creating bloody fingers.
