  • Installing a used head with new valves, new timing chain on my 2003 KTM 450 SX-F four stroke. This is the legendary RFS "Racing Four Stroke" engine. The same RFS that in1999 won the World Enduro Championship.
If you’re working on your RFS motor and you’re wondering about the cam timing consult the repair manual. Here is a link. You may need to be signed into a Google account to access this. See chapter 6-11c

9:36 there seems to be a few people under the impression that the cam timing is wrong. 180 off. If that’s what your friend is telling you, perhaps they’re talking about the more modern 450 and not the RFS. I would suggest consulting the RFS repair manual if that’s what you’re working on. I didn’t ask somebody I looked at the manual.

Will do! I have the parts to upgrade to a six speed transmission, so I’ll be splitting my cases again soon.

I have the 08 Outlaw 450 Believe it is the same engine? , Having troubles with cam timing, Runs but the Lobes were pointing down on the cam. Everyone seems to say lobes pointing downwards. Runs, Hard to start...back fires and misses, I am going to go home and make sure its the same way as you have , I know its the cam timing that is out.!
    Thanks For the Video!

    You set the timing wrong.
Camshaft lobes must facing down, not up .

Thank you. I’ve taken a lot of chances with used parts on this bike to keep costs down and I’ve been very lucky so far.
