    That's an 08 I had the 250 pain in the ass to work on the valves when checking them but other than that ,it's an easy motor to work on , really fun bikes if you know what you're doing, the only issues I ever had was maybe starting issue if it stood too long but normally not a big deal , it's normal for them , the fun bike to work on is the 2010to 2013 motors they're alot easier , but the 450 2005 is really fun shorter stroke but yeah didn't had alot of issues, but not everyone rides the bikes the same and treats it the same so depends on the rider

    helps alot i didnt understand where the 3rd valve is on this engine, i am going to try and shim if needed my wr450f. at the moment the cams on the intake are kinda wonky. intake is pointing down and exhaust is where it is suppose to be. How do you determine which stroke is TDC? you mentioned two of them are technically it

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  4 года назад

      It doesn’t actually matter. TDC is TDC but when everything is timed up one is compression and one is overlap but you can decide which is which with the cams.

    2003 Yamaha YZ450F Spark Plug torque is 9.4 ft. lbs. I just did mine and checked my manual.
    I would also like to hear your thoughts on proper starting procedure as I currently am a first time owner and rebuilding mine. The manual says to absolutely NOT to pump the throttle prior to kicking or when kicking, but I have seen some guys do it and some guys not. So, I am wondering if a person really needs pump the throttle or would the motorcycle start up with out pumping. It would be interesting to run a test doing both methods.

    • @highlandcycles
      @highlandcycles  4 года назад

      So, I have found that when the bike is cold and the jetting is right, they really like a couple squirts of the accelerator pump to get started. Now, once the bike is warm, you don't want to give it any throttle at all. That again is if the bike is tuned correctly in my opinion.

Mine was loose, with that thin flat washer, than the nut sits on, bent over the nuts edges, to stop the nut from loosing and backing out. Now I dont know if that bend was intentional, because that sprocket maybe needs some type of wiggle room/play, but yes that whole sprocket was LOOSE. I snugged her up and re bent the washer, but shes snug now. Makes me wonder what kind of discoveries I will discover as I now check this 1st yz450 of mines VALVE CLEARANCES...

    Exhaust - 0.20-0.25 mm
