    thanks for your videos. You have some of the absolute best videos for us shadetree mechanics. The links to the products in your videos help as well.
    You led me down a rabbit hole talking in one of the videos about gummy tires and about having a second setup for different terrain. What have your experiences been running gummy tires in mud? Thinking about getting a setup ready with AT81EX tubeless for mud races. The mud races in WV are brutally slippery and greay and every little bit helps.

    • @DirtBikingwithDonnie
      @DirtBikingwithDonnie  2 года назад +1

      I’ve found that gummy tires are great on wet rocks and roots but not great in pure mud. I would think the terrain in WV would be very rocky and if so a gummy should do well. They do wear out fast.

    P.S. Technically, the only thing I’d say is that a lot of mechanics recommend doing the measurements on the TDC of the stroke where the cam lobes are pointing up and out (can’t remember if that is the compression or exhaust stroke). I forgot why that is the recommended stroke to take the measurement on but it might be something to look into if you’re interested.

      @DirtBikingwithDonnie  2 года назад

      It’s a good idea to check the clearances every 25 hours or so, but if your bike is having difficulty starting when hot, that can be a symptom of insufficient clearances.

    • @DirtBikingwithDonnie
      @DirtBikingwithDonnie  2 года назад +2

      Thanks! The most common symptom of tight valves is difficulty re-starting when the engine is hot. Although these bikes are sometimes hard to start when hot regardless. I had started to notice mine was getting a little harder to start when hot and that’s better since I adjusted them. I have friends that have similar hours as you and haven’t checked theirs either. I’m a little more particular about mine and I like to check the clearances every 25 hours or so. Thanks for watching.

    I have on my WR450F 2022 Intake the specs 0.10 - 0.17 mm as the manual say. My Intake valves are now on 0.11 left and 0.13 mm on right after 150 hours. Should I adjust it to 0.15 mm or is it o.k.? The Exhaust valves are in spec.

    • @DirtBikingwithDonnie
      @DirtBikingwithDonnie  8 месяцев назад

      In my opinion it’s ok as long as it doesn’t go below 0.10. You’ll need to check the clearance regularly to see if they are getting tighter. Also, the engine will become hard to start when warm if the intakes get too tight, so that’s another sign they need to be re-shimmed.

    • @mischi7920

      Thanks for the answer. The bike starts without problems, even when the engine is hot. But since I have dismantled everything anyway I thought that I re-shimm right now before I reassemble everything. Then I am for the next 100-150 hours on the safe side. I've never done anything like this before and with your instruction I should do it sometime.

      I was using a magnet tool to remove the buckets. The magnet holds the shim to the underside of the bucket. Oil will also cause the shims to stick to the bucket so if you’re not using a magnet you have to be very careful to not drop the shim.

    Hello! I was wanting to get some help. I took my bike down and checked the clearance because at constant throttle or using the cold start switch the bike sounds like it’s breaking up. I bought the bike used and never had a Yamaha but I’m unsure if that’s normal and I’m just being picky. I figured even at constant throttle it shouldn’t make any weird difference in exhaust sound but I’m unsure.
    I got my valves back in speck and put in a new plug. If I’m climbing RPM it sounds normal just not constant.

      They are very reliable engines. Some people run them for 150 hours or more with just oil changes. It's a high-compression engine that will rev to 14k and produce 42 hp so there are some maintenance trade-offs with that kind of performance. How you ride it will also determine how often you might have to do valve maintenance. If you stay off the rev limiter it will stay in spec a long time. It can be intimidating but the shimming process isn't difficult if you buy the right tools and take your time. Thanks for watching and commenting!
