They did the same thing with the Slash Modified. It's on their site now for 399.99 but it was originally 379.95, so they're probably just trying to get more money out of the demand. Honestly a pretty trash business practice, but not much we can do about it besides just not buying anything more.
I was stretching to spend $250 on this as I was on the fence with getting it all, but I definitely will not be at $270. I was going to have my wife get me this for Christmas, but I will just get another Arrma or something for less or even slightly more in larger scale. I used to be nothing but Traxxas ≈15 years ago and a few times since then getting in/out of the hobby a few times, after getting back in again I am not as close minded (and, my local hobby store is not great, so regardless of brand I am having to order RTRs and parts).
There goes that idea. You are right. They are $120 now. I have to buy my own stuff. I am not sure I will be getting this motor if it is not on sale now. 😮💨
That's hilarious. I don't even drive my Xmaxx anymore. Ever since the Vigilante was released I've put batteries in my Xmaxx once and that was only to prove to my buddy that the Vigilante was better in every way by letting him drive them both back to back. The Redcat Valkyrie is a 4s large 1/10 basher that i paid $299 for delivered to my door direct from Redcat. It's literally twice the truck as the mini Max for $20 more. That's insane.
Excellent point and example. I am curious, why the Vigilante over the Kraton? Is it the double brace, body (it is awesome looking)? Then again, Redcats tend to have a friendly price tag too.
I see $20 may not seem like much, but now it will take you almost 7 hours of your work life to pay it. But, hey, it is a free country and it's your money. Even if it were shipping, they should have considered this long ago. Price it high and drop the price.
I hope the first comment is right that it’s just for the pre-orders. Otherwise, I’m gonna be really disappointed that they jack the price out of nowhere. Especially since I bought the horse and then they lowered the price a month later and then a couple months later after the HD parts that I spent over $100 on. Used to really love Traxxas. Also the biggest fanboy they had but it is getting silly.
They do keep some shops afloat, probably. They are like the MTG card game to shops it seems. I could be wrong. But there are so many other options for less. I hope Traxxas stays strong, but now sure the current model will help.
What was the extra for? You might be able to request a refund from customer service if the price was advertised at $310 but jumped to $340 at checkout without it being a shipping or tax thing.
@telecomandorc no, 319 pre tax and after the 5-8 percent state taxes it's 340. If out the door was 340 it was indeed a tax. But op doesn't specify if they upcharged with or without tax. Scummy practice that may be how your local hobby store operates. Normally you could call them out on it though. If traxxas did that internally don't buy from them. Don't support scummy business practices.
If Traxxas wasn’t pulling a fast one, they wouldn’t be Traxxas. Don’t ask the Hobby Shop to honor that price. They are the undeserving little guy in the situation.
I would not hold it against the hobby shop. They need to keep their contacts and have to do what the manufacture says. Hobby shops are just neighbors trying to make a living in some cases.
Do you know if they issued an apology? I have not found one. But the website states the following under terms and conditions: Policies, pricing, and item availability are subject to change without notice, and we reserve the right to limit quantities. Prices, quantities, and availability displayed on our site are subject to final approval at the time of order fulfillment. So they could have done it just for kicks.
@telecomandorc No. Traxxas doesnt issue apologies. As a dealer you either pay the extra to make sure you have it there in time or you dont get any and your customers go elsewhere. Its shady tactics but thats how it goes I guess.
@@gregarnone not lying. my LHS got 14 of them in yesterday. ill be glad to post pictures later today. lots of shops are getting them in. its not a huge deal
@@chrissigmon5678 $20 may not sound like much, but that could cover an upgrade. And Arrma is hard to beat at price point. I like Traxxas models, but the price will keep some new comers at bay.
Sorry, I am confused. The website says "Pre order... $269.95" and it used to be $249.95. When you say that is pre-orders only, why does it say pre-orders... $269.95? Or, do you mean shops are still honoring the original $249.95?

I mentioned this to someone else in a post below... The Typhon is hard to beat at this price. The Typhon Grom is just a really good deal.
Classic bait and switch? They did the same with the brushless option for the TRX4M.

They might. I am up in the air about it as we speak.

Will do.
I came across that earlier in the month. My local hobby shop was taking preorders at the $249 price. I preordered it with them.
Did they take payment? Mine did not.

Second batch is coming air freight, hence the price hike. According to dealers anyway
