@@elderleon1844 I disagree. Stairfax is alright, and it’s still very impressive for the hardware, but they really flubbed the story. I think the atmosphere is much superior in DP, and I’m especially pissed that they turned Krystal from a badass female protagonist into a macguffin.
To be honest, if this game stayed as Dinosaur Planet, people would see the canine main characters as a parallel to Star Fox. Also, in my honest opinion, this game really isn't all that bad. I bought it as part of a bundle on eBay when my original GCN died, and needed parts to repair it. Got the game and decided to try it out when my GCN was repaired, and it turns out that I actually didn't mind the land stages all that much.
In a way, it's kinda like the NES Godzilla game, Monster of Monsters!. It's not a bad game by any stretch of the word, but it gained a reputation it didn't deserve after the AVGN reviewed it, despite the fact that he gave it a mixed review.
Totally agree with you. It's a fun game, not on par with zelda games, but still good! I noticed pretty much his whole video is just nit picking. Everyone was so pissed because it was something different from the original star fox games, but why isn't everyone completely enraged about hyrule warriors? I get it's a spin off, but still.
jlewis1091 If anything, almost all of the reviewers who played the game at the time of its release said the best thing about it was that if people had played a 3d Zelda Game, they could pick up this game and get right in, and have fun with it.
+TheSoapboxNerd To be honest, I'm glad they stopped making ratchet and clank. Before they stopped they were going down a really bad road. The last good one was a crack in time (gave me 13 year old orgasms), and they should have stopped there.
Wait, a long awaited and highly anticipated sci-fi space-trekker game made by a highly trusted, highly popular, and highly regarded game studio completely flopped and shattered the hopes and trusts of millions of gamers? Wow, that sounds familiar. I guess history is damned to repeat itself; fated that way I guess. You could even say it's Destiny.
You do know that names and brands don't change in translation, like how every language says Nintendo the same way. However, General Scales is a stupidly English name. Considering their language, he more likely would've been called WEEDO OODAVEER CONSADO. I guess they just needed a spooky villain name that all kids could understand.
+Chief Wolf Mostly because it was a 2-week exclusive rental-only at Blockbuster, and was also extremely short, so comparatively very few copies of the game exist. (In the States), same reason the GameCube version of RE2 and RE3 are like $50.
+Boat - It was alright. The new designs were fantastic, but the other aspects of the game weren't good enough to match. The gameplay left much to be desired, even when flying in the Arwing. It controlled much stiffer, and flew WAY slower. There are seriously parts of that game where you're flying an Arwing about as fast as a golf cart. On top of the other gripes, there were only ten missions in the whole game, very few of which were classic on-rails Arwing missions. I do admit they did do a good job with the landmaster, though!
+Leopold “Butters” Stotch That's a shame since Stairfax is demoted to sausage fest again... well unless you count slippy. I just hope they don't take themselves too seriously like in Assault or the dating game... I also hope they have better voice acting than the 3DS remake.
I never played the original starfoxes but I still remember this game as one of the best on the gamecube and still one of the best adventure type games i ever played. Try and judge this game for what it is, not what its predecessors were.
The line at 1:37 has always been a hidden gem for me in this video. “I’m gonna tell *your* mom what you did to *me* !” I can remember “threatening” my friends with that whenever they were about to tell on me. 😂
+Rikusgirl001 They Game is still Decent Blame Microsoft this was the Absolute Last Game they made for Nintendo before It was bought and it's rumored the Nintendo did this to Keep Microsoft's greedy little Paws away from it and seeing how The unlucky Futures of Banjo and Conker turned out this is a much better fate
Rikusgirl001 it's one of the best legend of zelda rip offs you'll ever play. it just so happens to put itself right in the line of fire with the starfox title.
xxjermxx70 That's true. My comment still remains on-point though, or at least in my eyes it does. Jon probably wouldn't have disliked it nearly as much if it were its own game. Still would've disliked it, just not as much.
And apparently it nearly was its own game, Dinosaur Planet. But then I reckon far less people, myself for sure, would never have bought the game if it weren't for the Starfox...ness.
LoLericLoLVA Why, of course. Same thing for Nuts & Bolts. The guy just relies too heavy on his own expectations and nostalgia for the game HE wants. It's cool cos it's comedy but no one should take these videos as a serious review. I swear he never even gets past 10% of the games. Always judges them around the first level or so.
The least Nintendo could have done is give the rights back to Argonaut and let them take ownership of it and be a second party developer. I mean, *FUCK!* Argonaut has made THREE games, whereas Nintendo only knows how to make bloody 64 over again! At least Argonaut makes *NEW* Starfox Games! (Starfox 1, 2, and Command)
I see Starfox Adventures as something that most people would view Super Mario Sunshine. They decide to make a game that is essentially a spin-off of the original series totally different from the main games, and everyone either gets pissed off or they love it. Also, since it's called Starfox ADVENTURES you could probably expect to do some adventuring on a random planet instead of shooting stuff in space.
The beast calls your name, but you do not answer. You fear the truth, you fear true salvation. It is your time Boy. God has come to reap the sinners. Stepping through the light repents yourself. Brings yourself from what not seen. There is still time. Escape. But it comes with a price. Your soul. Your dignity. Your being
Well, it's an okay game, but it should have remained Dinosaur planet instead of shoehorning in an entirely unrelated series with no business even being in this genre.
@Pasquale Dorsi i dunno. StarLink might actually work. It *IS* the only one out of the two that is using StarFox's main theme after all. Im excited for it tbh
even if the two series remained separate, fanfic writers would have combined them anyways. Though it makes sense if they took place in the same universe, but it would have been better if they kept Dinosaur Planet as its own game and converge the storylines in Starfox Assault
honestly? I don't even hate the inclusion of star fox stuff in the game. After smash bros and the popularity of 64 kids were clamoring for a game where you could shoot stuff as Fox with his blaster doing little foot missions (vs mode unlockables excepted). No blaster in tandem with the zelda gameplay really hurt the way it was perceived, at the time. Where they really fucked the dog was the story. As soon as they added Fox into stuff they really should have found a way to incorporate MORE of it. The characters that we're interested in are the core cast, and we BARELY see them (slippy's new voice was irritating, too. 64 may have sounded like a girl, but it worked for him.) And the new character we DO get, Krystal, gets turned into a shitty puzzle segment that you DREAD as a player. And we're stuck with Tricky. And I like Tricky as a concept: a little triceratops buddy that you can play with like it's a pet dog: great. awesome. fun for kids. I get the appeal. Why, though, are there progression-stopping puzzles that rely on his fucking AI not breaking (It always breaks). And why won't he shut up? He's fun sometimes. The way he'll do something dumb and fox just BARELY tolerates it and eventually finds it endearing is great characterization... but if Tricky is still annoying the hell out of me by the end of the game then I no longer identify with fox and instead am angry at him for not getting this little shit to grow up a bit. There's cool stuff here. Fox being moored on a planet and having a Star Trek style adventure would be a really fun experience- hell the dinosaur planet stuff IS fun- but it draaaaags. The dungeons are like, entire planets that take forever. Honestly? I wish this was more like the forgotten rareware classic: Jet force Gemini. Gameplay/story/world would have meshed seamlessly.
Tattle Boad My family didnt have infinite money when i was a kid, and when i had to choose between zelda and starfox 64 i chose zelda. Played Starfox 64 at a friend tho, it wasnt too bad, but i'd much rather just play zelda.
Piña ColAda nah, not really, I had quite a few games since i already collected all my life, and I just wanted some more Zelda, It was probably the other way around since every else wanted a Star Fox game and didnt get one. I went into it with a neutral opinion and got an alright game.
This era of Jontron was peak. I remember watching this and the banjo kazooie video and I was instantly hooked. What’s even more special is I relate because I grew up with the games he played: God bless Jontron.
I think it probably wasn't as bad as everyone thinks it was. If it remained dinosaur planet it wouldn't be as hated. Even if everything was the same gameplay wise.
RobXHolic FoxyFan I tried this game again early this year, but honestly the gameplay isn’t the best either. It’s really unclear what you’re supposed to do at many times so I gave up. I never played any of the other Star Fox games so I’m not even comparing them
Yeah, I remember this game well. And it wasn't terrible. Just....very generic. Entertaining, but really leaving you absolutely no reason to play through it again. And the final climax was completely silly and felt totally shoehorned in. But eh, we did get krystal out of it soooo kinda win?
@GamingYoshi Fanatic Seems like it would be a cool franchise for Nintendo to look into. I bet they could do something cool with it. Long as there's no lingering legal issues to work out with Rare over it.
No, this game was retarded trash. Maybe if you were one of those kids with a dinosaur obsession.. but everyone else wanted a real starfox game, not this half assed cash grab
Aw... Looks like he didn't get too far into the game. That's too bad, there's soooooo much more to complain about. Lightfoot village, Tricky's racism towards cloudrunners, the Crystal innuendos, the level design completely falling apart near the end, Falco, the final boss...
This was my very first Star Fox game, so I never had that problem with the departure from the original gameplay. Though i do admit it would have been cooler had they just stuck with making it a brand new IP.
Sunlight Blaze blame nintendo for it. Rare was gonna make it an original ip and had it built for the most part.. but then nintendo's like, nope, its gonna be a star fox game with mc cloud as the main character while krystal is kept as a damsel in partial distress.
I think the fictional language thing sounds stupid because it sounds so unnatural. The voice talent enunciates EVERY syllable, and it sounds like garbage. If they actually spoke with a flow, it'd sound like watching a movie with people speaking a foreign language, and it'd be all right.
If you get to the *VERY* end of the game, *(Spoilers for anyone who actually cares which is probably nobody but hey)* Falco comes back in the boss fight with Andross... Yeah, I can't remember how they explained him being there. I feel like they did a villain-swap and said that Andross was telling General Scales what to do the entire time... Anyway you fight Andross in an on-rails Arwing section and Falco comes in to help by giving you bomb powerups. That's about it. So *technically* they didn't get rid of him. Technically. But hey, if I saw how fat & lazy the rest of the star fox crew had gotten I would go solo too.
metalmusician6798 Ya know what I think we have. What a coincidence! I must compliment your outstanding taste in youtubers. Also, I met Metallica last month and was on stage with them. What a world huh?

Same here honestly, It's not a perfect game by any stretch but I would never call it BAD.

+drone306 They didn't stop making Ratchet & Clank, there's a reboot based on the movie coming out next year.
Wait, a long awaited and highly anticipated sci-fi space-trekker game made by a highly trusted, highly popular, and highly regarded game studio completely flopped and shattered the hopes and trusts of millions of gamers? Why does nobody talk about Starfox: Assault?
That game was actually fun.
Maybe because it Costs £30 - 50 Used
Cheif Wolf but... I own a copy
+Boat - interesting multiplayer
I still have this game and love replaying it every once in a while.

I never played the original starfoxes but I still remember this game as one of the best on the gamecube and still one of the best adventure type games i ever played. Try and judge this game for what it is, not what its predecessors were.
But the thing is we had the legend of Zelda for Nintendo's signature adventure franchise. However this was a fun game.
I love this game. What's cool is the manual teaches you how to speak the dinosaur language.
Yeah I remember that, was really cool, love the attention to detail.
Shame the voice-acting can't save it
i love how jontrons humour is still funny even in this current year, he really is timeless
The line at 1:37 has always been a hidden gem for me in this video. “I’m gonna tell *your* mom what you did to *me* !” I can remember “threatening” my friends with that whenever they were about to tell on me. 😂
I feel like this line has always been kind of underacknowledged so I'm glad you brought it up
I feel like the game might have been decent on its own... like if it was just "Dinosaur Planet" and had nothing to do with Star Fox.
They probably slapped star fox on it to get it to sell more if I had to guess the real way it happened...
Rikusgirl001 It WAS decent. It wasn't Star Fox, but it REALLY wasn't BAD
+Rikusgirl001 Maybe have Star Fox as a side character and not a main?
He probably wouldn't have had nearly as many issues with this game if it wasn't labeled as a Starfox game.
LoLericLoLVA If this was its own game than perhaps it may go from sin to just very mediocre.
xxjermxx70 That's true. My comment still remains on-point though, or at least in my eyes it does. Jon probably wouldn't have disliked it nearly as much if it were its own game. Still would've disliked it, just not as much.
LoLericLoLVA no shit sherlock.

I know :( Starfox was such a cool franchise.
Even worse is they let rare slip away in the process, this game might've been the shit that was made when they were transfering to microsoft.
@@andrewherrera7735 IIRC this game came out the day before the sale went through.
Also their mistreatment of Rare's IP. If they had let Rare finish Dinosaur Planet the way it was intended I think it would have been a good game.

True star fox is a shooting game not a collect a thon that really does not suit star fox
And the planet does not make much sense ether
even if the two series remained separate, fanfic writers would have combined them anyways.
I actually liked Star Fox Adventures. Never really understood the hate. It was no Ocarina of Time, but it was an alright game.
But it wasn't really a Starfox game. That's the problem
Asa Sparks I personally didnt mind that. I didn't really want a Star Fox game, never really liked the old one.

Piña ColAda nah, not really, I had quite a few games since i already collected all my life, and I just wanted some more Zelda, It was probably the other way around since every else wanted a Star Fox game and didnt get one. I went into it with a neutral opinion and got an alright game.

I wonder how a standalone new Dinosaur Planet franchise for Nintendo would look like now. Maybe it could have been an interesting series, but I dunno.

Falco comes back in the boss fight with Andross... Yeah, I can't remember how they explained him being there. I feel like they did a villain-swap and said that Andross was telling General Scales what to do the entire time... Anyway you fight Andross in an on-rails Arwing section and Falco comes in to help by giving you bomb powerups. That's about it.

As a StarFox game I can see why it's lackluster, but as just a game (minus the low budget), it's not half bad.
