  • In this video, which was part of a Live video I did with Kenpo Grandmaster Chuck Sullivan, we discuss the Bruce Lee speed test at the 1967 Long Beach Internationals. Chuck was a witness to Bruce Lee and Vic Moore; however, his story differs from Grandmaster Victor Moore's. I ended up calling Vic Moore while live with Chuck Sullivan in an attempt to get to the bottom of things once and for all.

In Bruce Lees own words.. “Take no thought of who’s right or wrong, be not for or against.” Let the dead be in peace. Bruce Lee lives in the heart of millions, because of his charisma, his talks, he brilliance behind the camera, he writings, his dedication to self mastery. In my honest opinion he was the last true martial artist. Because what we know as a martial artist now is guy who fights for a living, to try to be the best or the strongest and so on, but he tried to beat himself on all planes, he pushed his limits physically & mentally, and he taught people that the human body alone is more important than any established system or principle, he didn’t believe in forms, sadly people even turned his own philosophy into a from, a style, which he would hate now. But that’s just how stupid human beings are, they always label things, and thus everything they touch crystallizes. But Bruce Lee thought that there shouldn’t be no form or crystallization, everything is moving, everything is fluidity. And honestly to think of these things during a time like that is just amazing, and that alone should give you a thought of how amazing this man was. Not only in martial art, even in body building and much more. I think he was universal man, like da Vinci. But we have people who are killing themselves for money, to earn glory and boost their egos of becoming the best “fighter”. They’re put in these cages like animals for entertainment and are owned by organizations such as ufc, One Championship and so on. Most of them are illiterate, hateful, drunk, doing drugs, saying hateful stuff to each others just to sell, is this what you call a martial artist? Please put some respect on Bruce Lees name. Bruce Lee transcended martial art in many ways, he was one of the first to integrate fighting mitts into training, he advised full contact sparring, he integrated cardio into his trainings as a martial artist, all the stuff they’re doing right now? He did it back then, for a young kid to even have the confidence and balls to go and do these seminars in front of professionals and teach them a thing or two is beyond amazing, absolutely incredible, to this day people who saw him say he was the best, the things he talked about then they had never heard before, and that is why some people hate him, because this young kid broke all their illusions, and they couldn’t understand what was happening. But the real ones who saw him talk well of him, and they knew even though he didn’t fight as in a sport, that he was something out of this world, because they all trained with and under him and they all sensed it. He is like mythological hero, like Achille, he will be remembered forever, because he showed us that there’s a certain potential laying dormant deep within us and that we too can awaken it and become extraordinary beings, which we are, just dumbed down by society, broken, castrated, weakened like tamed animals, go back to your instinct. Bruce Lee was the last true Martial Artist, peace, take care of yourselves guys!.

Bruce Lee's punches have been blocked before so it's not something that never happened. Ralph castro and Kenneth wong both blocked Bruce Lee's punches very easily, castro was one of the martial artists that lee met in San Francisco through James lee. Kenneth Wong was the hung sing student that blocked Bruce Lee's punches at the sun sing theatre in an identical speed drill test to the 1967 one with Vic Moore, this happened in 1964 before Bruce became famous, it's in the schools history, that event led to the challenge match between Bruce Lee and wong jak man, I know Bruce Lee's history inside out, the events are definitely documented in numerous biographies and James yim.lee books on Bruce Lee.

I had the honor of being a student of Grandmaster Chuck Sullivan back in the early 1980's at the Hawthorne Karate Connection.
Mr. Sullivan is one of the most humble, polite, honest, and genuine people I've met.
If Vic Moore was telling the truth, which we all know he isn't, there would be film recording of the questionable incident because The Long Beach is documented on film from start to finish.
Another thing, Vic brings in Steve Sanders name as a witness (I think that's what he was saying) . Steve Sanders, who I've also met and worked out with in a black belt class that Chuck Sullivan was teaching, (our normal black belt class that Steve Sanders participated in). I would like to hear Steve Sanders account of what happened between Vic Moore and Bruce Lee.
Thanks for these videos interviewing Grandmaster Chuck Sullivan. He is such a great person, has so many stories and is a wonderful teacher and story teller.
In truth, I feel that Chuck Sullivan should be better known to the world of those in and not in the martial arts communities.

      @Market-Maven Год назад +5

@@brin57 The actual footage shows both men are right about Part 1: Bruce throwing two punches at Vic, and Vic said those were about two feet away. Slow down the speed to 1/4 and you see he's right. The film has vertical lines in it that magically appear as a rectangular box around Vic, and Bruce's punches never come close to penetrating them. So they qualify as feints.
Part 2: As to the second part, the long film original shows that Chuck correctly remembered that there was no inclusion of Lee defending Moore's strikes in round 2 demo. The film shows Moore bowed with Lee and jogged offstage to the left. There's no doubt about it. Nor has there ever been a story go round or on television or karate mags of the era discussing the day Bruce Lee got showed up and booed. Maybe Mr. Moore was upset he didn't get a movie part. Only he can say. Maybe he just remembered it wrong, as in ego defense mechanism. Maybe it was all the years people thought wrongly that Lee really got the best of him in that demo.

In the old days, karate practioneers all over did not think much of Chinese Kung fu. This may have germinated from the wars between Japan and China. This sentiment was portrayed in the Bruce Lees flims as well. Fist of fury, for example.
So Vic Moore, who was a champion among his colleagues, was no exception, appears to have been embarrassed by Bruce Lee performance. As you know, Bruce was working at becoming a total athlete. As he explained in his Tao of Jeet kune do. Traditional martial artists only focused on perfecting their karate style. So it suffice to say that Bruce speed, agility, and power came by his hard work and athleticism! Therefore, anyone who has not trained or prepared on this level should not be surprised, that such an athlete can bring out all of the deficiencies or inadequacies of his opponents in an embarrassing way as we see with Vic Moore. I conclude that Vic Moore's pride may have betrayed him instead of guiding him. It would be interesting to others view on my comments. Thank you. Chen!🙏

That was also how Gene LeBell supposedly beat Bruce Lee as well - in his own mind! This was how all of these “great martial artists” got their fame - by beating Bruce Lee in their sleep! And immediately all the Bruce Lee haters jumped on their nutsacks to make them their heroes! Which, of course, make these imaginary Bruce Lee beaters instantly famous in the minds of the haters! But none of them ever made a name for themselves outside of their claim to have beaten Bruce Lee! But you would think after 50 years they would stop trying to cash in from Bruce Lee’s name and fame!

Sorry, but no. Yes, as a Hollywood-movie like "Karate Kid" its a cool story, to build up bow to the "talent of a kid, who becomes Karate-Champion" ... but i am sure, thats not how talent in reality works. Vic also told in the same interview, that Bruce Lee in the end of the demonstration said "you are the fastest american i ever met" (that shows, how much he wants the appreciation of a big name .... which before he trashtalked). That contradiction just doesnt make sense.
I also can sense by his laughing at the demonstration of Bruce (at the footage) that he had a lot of disrespect towards Bruce even at that point. There was no reason, to appreciate Bruce. So he had a strong motive to make things up about Bruce, i would say. And the hurted and inflated ego explains the rest.

I’m pretty sure lots of guys watching Bruce’s demo would have cheered Grandmaster Moore considering Bruce was outspoken about the martial arts which made a lot of these folks mad. Him striking Bruce and Bruce losing would have changed things a bit. We wouldn’t be looking at him the same especially on a demonstration of speed. No one would have any reason to cut film or hide anything. Love your videos!

Or maybe the center is filled with Sand... where as the rest is fiber / foam. Ive heard claims that it weighs around 500 lbs... and IMO, the only way for it to way that much, would be for it to have higher density material in it. Can you imagine what this dude sees in his brain. How are you going to go on TV lying about Bruce Lee. The clips say it all.

9:40 fascinating is how you don't see Vic Moore waking out of the scene after being punched. There was no footage showing him punching and walking away.

You gotta interview some ppl about the apologetic letter that Chuck Norris wrote to Bruce Lee where he said he was not ashamed to learn from Bruce and that he thought it was a privilege learning from Bruce. The letter was discovered a few years ago and can be easily found. I wanna learn more about the context of that letter.

Great point. Would love to know more about why Chuck felt compelled to open up and write to Bruce to clear the air.

He’s all mixed up. I saw a recent video where Norris said Lee didn’t use the high kick until he told Lee to use it. But Bruce kicked out a light on the ceiling before ever meeting Chuck on the Green Hornet. Everyone wants to believe that they would have beaten Bruce Lee. Sadly he passed like most great talents. Hendrix ,etc…. Anyway RIP bruce Lee. Legend who’s still talked about today! Some will never pass in that way!

@@326vince I think Chuck became a lot more humble and mature in recent years. I saw a pretty new video that came out only a few years ago in which he said Bruce would've done EXTREMELY well if he competed. His humility in that video made me respect him a lot more.
