- 2022 Razer Blade 14 vs ASUS Zephyrus G14. These are 2 of the hottest gaming laptops currently on the market. The Razer Blade 14 has a Ryzen 9 6900HX CPU and a RTX 3070TI, while the ASUS Zephyrus G14 uses a Ryzen 9 6900HS and a RX 6800S GPU. Both are great gaming laptops but one is the easy choice.

The price alone is why it is alway hard to recommend a blade over anything else comparable. I wanted a blade so bad but for the performance difference the price is never justifiable.
Me too, but I'm a sucker for that "solid black aluminium block"
Exactly. I’ve only have a Blade 15 because I bought it second hand for a really good price.
Facts, I've only had a used razer laptop which I bought for the same price I could have got a new laptop from a different brand, needless to say it wasn't worth it.
I had a Razer Blade 15 Base early 2020 model, which I recently gave to a Vietnam Vet I work with for his Birthday. Anyway, I really loved that laptop!
But yeah, Razer has really raised prices. It seems more so than other laptop manufacturers. To the point to where I wouldn’t recommend one. Even though I am also a sucker for that solid black aluminum block, as Jacobo Puccini put it above.
I was debating it last year over a gigabyte laptop and the price difference was ~$1000 for the 3080 version between the 2 and the gigabyte version came with more ram and 2tb of nvme drives
The G14 just keeps getting better every year. I was going to upgrade from my 2020 G14 but I think I'll hold back until we hear some more news about Zen 4 and when it'll be coming to laptops.
Really hope they won’t jack up the price again, cuz then it becomes really out of reach for many people. Also hope they make the design even more minimal.
zen 4 mobile CPU's will feature phoenix line of 30-45W in first half of 2023 for thinner laptops while thicker gaming laptops will get dragon range of 55W+, more cache, better clocks for longer in same time period, only question is if you can/want to wait until about this time next year, expect performance to be about 15-20% better, im hearing that phoenix line will have even better APU with more units meaning u wont need a discrete gpu to run AAA games at 60-80 fps + when they come out that is... now i dont think im gonna be buying a laptop with zen 4, as il probably gonna build a custom pc with zen 4 and rdna 3 when they come out later this year.
@@kaeroseon Yes the pricing can be the biggest drawback for most people looking to purchase these devices.
@@filip.a. I wish I could just build a PC but a laptop makes much more sense since I commute a lot. The jump in performance may be 15~20% in comparison to the 6900HS but when you compare it to my 4900HS it's well worth the wait. Now we just wait and hope it won't cost as much as car to get these laptops...
@@georgefa G14 in US for top config costs like 1799 or 1899 $, while in EU it starts at 1900 for 6700s gpu and 2-2,1k eur for 6800s gpu, so quite some difference, while any other gaming laptop from asus/msi are about 2,2-2,6k eur at the minimum, i dont want to spend so much money for laptop performance compared to even midrange gpu/cpu for next gen things that come out later this year..
So happy to see you including DaVinci Resolve test results! :-) I love that reviewers are starting to do that more and more
This is exactly the review I was waiting for and I appreciate that it came out so soon. I'd be curios to see the same comparison in games to the previous Blade 14 to see if the step up in CPU and GPU make a difference but that G14 is a heck of a price, especially when you can get it with 32 gigs of ram for the cost of that Blade. Great content my dude, thanks for your hard work!
You are right mate . The g14 delivers , the upgrade is better than 2020 ,it went from 25ms to 3ms . Awesome
I would love to see a side by side comparison of 16, 15 and 14 inch form factors of multiple brands within hard budget brackets. Ranking on the basis of performance then on the basis of portability (battery, ports, weight) which often inverts the rankings. At the end of the segment you could suggest use cases for each laptop. I feel this info is stuff that you often cover and is lacking in a lot of other reviews, just havent seen it all in one place.
I completely agree that blade 14 has a tighter hinge but the reason why this happens at 3:49 is not just because the hinges are too loose rather due to ergolift when you are lifting up the g14 a part of the display is touching the table and creating a torque that makes the display open up instead of staying in place.
exactly lmao, I can understand the viewers not being able to realize that when watching someone do that but I just can't get how he is unable to feel it.
Came here to say that
Also, the screen in the g14 is heavier than of the Razer Blade because of the animatrix parts
I was also gonna say this same thing
That's literally the entire reason lol. Without that function the lid would stay put.
Man your reviews are exceptionally well done. Well thought out, cohesive and to the point. Keep at it mate
Thanks 🙏
I would love to see the same comparison on 15" laptops like G15 and Razer.
Thing about the Blade series is it only takes a little bit of research to find out the "premium" build is only skin deep. Doesn't do much good when the battery is going to do a surprise firework show within a year.
LMFAO surprise firework show
sorry there it only takes some new new thermal paste every 3 months or so to keep your blade under 70C max temp so that you wont have a battery issue
@@peacenpowder disable cpu boost from power plan.
I assume its razers cooling aproach that dumbs too much heat into the battery.
My battery bloated this week lmaoo
Great video! I just got my hands on the g14 today and wondering if you had to disable the vari-bright in radeon to achieve maximum brightness. I was told to do so but I didn't see any difference between having it on/off and I'm not sure if it's pushing at 500 nits or no
Are you going to review the X14? I know you're not a fan but the CPU performance is probably better. If they figure out how to put in a more powerful GPU with future revisions then I think it could compete with these two.
thanks for a great review with real-world scenarios, further still making a decisive decision at the end, ... this is pretty spot on for me as I'm due to upgrade my laptop, and G14 was the front runner.
You’re very welcome!
Really loved your conclution. really clear and said who should pick wich model. Super video !
Love the G14, I am a bit frustrated by the color choice availability on it. Some regions only have it in white, some don't have the 6800s yet while others only have it with the Anime Matrix and make you pay for it even if you don't want it. Hopefully this gets better with time because it's such a good device.
To be fair, anime matrix is useless
@@corey7219 My comment is pointing out that some regions only have it with the anime matrix option and with no option for you to not get it without it which is what I want since it is indeed useless and the prismatic effect imo is a better look.
@@fallenblizzard2441 yeah exactly. I'd want a dark one, 6700S, without the matrix, but it's not available in the US.
Nice review, man! Great pacing, lots of pertinent info, and a clear, logical conclusion. Thanks
I got a Razer blade 2021 on sale last month and absolutely love it. Never seen a windows laptop matching Apples build quality and aesthetics combined with 3080 monstrosity.
Does it sound like a jet engine and heats up like a campfire?
@@bthegawd8113 can't speak for the blade but my G15 has a 3080 and it is surprisingly quiet for a gaming laptop. It was running hot tho, till I turned off CPU overclocking. Dropped from the mid 90s while gaming to the mid 70s. Now it runs like a boss.
The HP Spectre uses to. My all aluminum Spectre is amazing. Does seem like they went down in quality recently but they used to be good
The max out g14 with ryzen 69000hs delivers excellent and the milliseconds has changed a lot. It went from 25ms to 3ms
Depends on where you live. The G14 here in Europe is about ~2500 for that spec. Whilst the Blade is about ~2700. At that point the Blade it's 3070ti is just a much better performance per €
Thanks for this comparison video. There seems to be an error in the graph at 6:56 -- The green bar for the Asus in Deus Ex is shorter than the blue bar for the Razer, though the Asus shows 113 fps, vs 95 for the Razer. Could you clarify which is correct?
Just made the decision between these two machines and ultimately went for the G14 based on price. Overall, I've been really happy with my decision, although I did have to return my first G14 unit after just 10 days because of dead pixels.
Same issue
Thank you, Going to watch this video later. I have been looking for these 2 computers.
Do we have any info on the screen response times for the QHD and FHD panels? That matters to me.
I really wish the next G14 has a 16:9 option with UHD or 1440p screen and 3060 or 3070 graphics, even if Max-Q. I need that kind of portable yet powerful creative station (and game console!)
nice video is there a major difference between the model rtx 3060 and 3070 TI of the blade 14 regarding the performance
Since you use Davinci Resolve, curious if you have the scaling problem when using 1440p laptops/displays where everything is either very small or very large?
Stumbled upon your video and love the tiny details you mentioned in comparison.
Just wondering, which laptop opens up wider? I usually have it up on a stand when not travelling and it's annoying that the screen for my XPS can only open up at an angle on the stand.
Pretty sure the new g14 reaches 180 degrees
A comparison I appreciate! Also, how about the alienware x14, did it come out too yet?
Hey Matthew what laptop do you recommend buying most between the g14 or msi gp66 or msi gp76
I'd love to see some benchmark comparisons of some of these games on both under Linux... since AMD GPUs are better supported in Linux than NVIDIAs are.
Hey Matthew, how are you? Just have a quick question about the Asus ROG G14. How would Fortnite run on high settings with this laptop? And yes, does it make fan noise and heat up while playing different games? Thanks a lot if you would reply!
Love your content!
I need a laptop for data processing and 3D modeling, I’m debating on zephyrus G14, razer blade 14, or Alienware x14. Which one would you pick and why?
Great comparison. Thank you.
It's a shame the Razer Blade 14 doesn't have a 32GB option... I need this amount of Ram to work and I'm having a hard time finding good small laptops with that Ram
I have the 2021 Blade 14 and I agree, it's nice that they pull ram to allow games to use the ram that's needed, but it is just a shame that you can't get it with 32. That vapor chamber just takes the space away. Hopefully with Ryzen 7000 series they can work some magic to make those have 32 gigs of ram, that'd be an instant purchase from me.
Get the New Dell 13 XPS Plus (9320)
3:55 About the G14 hinge, mine does stay in position even if I tilt it back, so idk if it's a QC issue or something like that. Great comparison though.
This is a very impartial review, thanks!
6:55, what's with the DEUS EX MANKIND bars? seems like an error
Matt, great video. Quick question. If the price was closer to $430 difference would you recommend the razer at that point? I'd mainly use it for RTS gaming and for web surfing, office apps. Thanks!
And also if you recommend the G14 still, would 24gb be worth it or is 16 enough. I'm not a creator and don't plan on anything of that sort. Anyone else feel free to weigh in as well. Thanks all!
@@MJ-yf3yk I'm not Matt, nor do I own these devices. But I would choose the G14 (if I were in your position) mainly due to the battery life difference, the better keyboard (you will be using office apps), and the price difference of $430. I would also go for 16Gb over 24Gb due to the performance boost from having dual-channel RAM. Hardware Canucks and Jarrod's Tech have a good explainer on what that is.
P.S. I love Razer's aesthetic, but a glowing green snake on the lid doesn't look very professional (if you care about that sort of thing).
Thanks for the reply! Another quick question, I'm thinking I might need a 2tb drive instead of 1, based on my usage on my current laptop. Does the read/write speeds and gen 4 really make that big of a difference for like $100 extra per drive?
@@MJ-yf3yk You're welcome. I personally wouldn't care. SSDs are fast enough these days.
What similar laptops would you guys recommend for a workflow that involves a lot of 3d renderings and architectural softwares? Most importantly that it’s easily portable
Hey long-time sub here great comparison as always! I was just wondering what your opinion on their qc and long term durability are? I’m in the market for a laptop and want to make sure it’s something that can last a few years since these aren’t cheap devices
I have the Asus flow x13 and I’ve been very impressed. Asus is killing it lately and Razer seems to just be riding on their name. Products are still good but…competition’s catching up and passing
it drains battery of the tablet under load when pluged in :
Agreed.
Besides ThinkPad, ASUS have been making the better quality laptops for ages (vs Toshiba, Lenovo, HP, Dell, etc etc). That is until Razer got ambitious with their Blade lineup.
I still think the Blade 14 has the better body, touchpad, keyboard, speakers, mics, camera, touchscreen, ports and OS bloat. But it cannot compete with the G14 when it comes to battery size and cooling, at price parity. So picking one up for cheaper is just a no-brainer. ASUS has come a long way since the first G14 units, and Razer has to go back to the workshop and improve their products if they're serious about the market.
What do you think of the lowest specced models of each competitor with FHD and 3060 or 6700? :)
I would like to buy One of these for Uni / light work and Gaming (with ext. Monitor, so QHD isnt something im Super hyped about)
And great video!!
There is a clear winner here and that is the one with the 16:10 display. I have worked/studied on many smaller sized 16:9 and that will never do it again, such a pain... 16:10 format is simply superior for small laptops like these.
What would take this video to the next level, would be icons on the side of the vid highlighting the points each laptop got. So where it did better it's green for example.
I'm looking for a laptop that has a Qhd display or higher that I can actually get Qhd on highest settings with good smooth game play and not sure when it comes to laptops so is the 6800s capable? What about 3060 or 3070? I love this specific setup but would hate to get it if it's not capable. Any ideas or recommendations?
I have a question, why do all laptop youtubers do tests for 1080p gaming on QHD laptops? Doesn’t 1080p gaming scale very badly on a QHD laptop? Btw keep up the good content Matthew! Love the work
Thanks for the video, a year later :) I am about to purchase a Razer 14 with an RTX 3080Ti on it mainly for doing 3d/rendering. I remember you had some doubts on this GPU on another video and was wondering if you had any feedback on this..the cpu is the same as on the one you are showing here. Thanks a lot!
I got my full-spec dark grey (practically black) G14 last week. All I have done with it so far is turn it on, essentially. Already, though, I don't like the keyboard backlighting or the keyboard font. A lot more light bleeds around the keys than comes through the letters on the keys. The ROG gamer font on the keys takes getting used to - I find it distracting.
Using a trackpad without buttons is a new experience for me, and I'll need to learn the tricks.
And the two AMD stickers were poorly aligned. Which I wouldn't mention if Matthew didn't make a fuss about it.
Do you know when the black version of the 2022 g14 is supposed to be available in the US?
I just wish the G14 was available in Canada besides that one specced-down configuration at bestbuy which is sold out. I want a white 6900hs+6800s but I expect to have to wait until the summer :(
Meanwhile I could have a blade 14 on my doorstep in less than 48 hours and desperately need to upgrade my old laptop, but it's expensive as hell and the G14 is generally more enticing to me for many reasons. Just don't know how much longer I can wait.
For first person shooters like Warzone, which one would you recommend?
If you could help me to find the best laptop for gaming and adobe photoshop, want it to 17 inch and 3080Ti? I have no budget I just need the best for gaming and working. Thank you.
Hi is it right that the 6800s is directly connected to the hdmi port? That means that the igpu doesn’t work with an external monitor.
The hinge point at 3:55 was a bit weird to point out...
they're pivoting on completely different parts of the computer lol. Of course the G14's display isn't going to stay put... the back 'feet' is the bottom of the screen lid.
Whereas on the blade, you're just pivoting it on non-moving parts like the back of the lid or bottom/back edge of the laptop.
Are the blender tests using GPU or CPU? cause that difference is so huge compared to other benchmarks i've seen, when comparing AMD to Intel CPUs.
At 6:52, you show QHD performance, of the G14 vs the R14. Here, Deus Ex Mankind says 113 FPS for the G14, but 95 FPS for the R14, but the G14 is shown with significantly performance in graph.
Which is it?
6:49 the graph is a bit off. In Deus Ex the fps on the G14 is higher with 113 than the 95 from the blade yet the bars show the opposite.
Thanks for the video review. At 6:45 mark, Deus Ex Mankind Divided 113 FPS bar should be longer than 95 FPS.
Great review! Really trying to decide between these two but i think you convinced me to go with the G14. You think its worth it to upgrade from the 2020 G14 to the 2022 G14?
Would you recommend a
M16 with
i7-12700H
RTX 3060 80-95W
16gb ram
or a G14 with
Ryzen 6800HS
RX 6800S 105W
32gb ram
M16 goes for 2300€
G14 goes for 2500€
Are the G14 thermals, fan noise, gaming and future proofing in general better and you could just get an external monitor for bigger screen?
would be great if you could test the lambda fusion razer, looks out of this world
Thanks this helped me!
do you have a video on why you switch to resolve?
Anyone know when we can get Eclipse Grey for the G14 in the US? Im going with that since I can get up to 40GB of RAM.
Can the g14 support a 32gb DDR5 in it's one available slot for 40GB including the 8GB soldered on?
my g14 was delivered on Tuesday. So far my only gripe is lack of HDMI 2.1, 16GB of RAM instead of 32GB, and the Moonlight chassis instead of Eclipse Grey. Obviously I knew about all of this before purchasing though. Performance wise it's a beast. Screen is very nice and I love the 16:10 ratio which makes it feel bigger than what it is.
Since you know all downsides of G14 compared to Bld14, more specially the lack of HDMI 2.1, you will never connect it to 8k tv in the future, but you still sacrificed and bought g14, what's the secret that you've insisted to buy g14 (aside of money)? only because 16:10 ? I need to know because I'm in the same situation super hesitant and dunno what to buy.
I would love to see asus scar 15 vs razer 15 comparison:) or M16 vs razer 15 :)
Awesome comparison 🔥🔥
I agreed with you on the price point for the g14. I do love razer laptops as in my opinion they are one of the best high-quality laptops around.
Funny this comes out the same day I order the Asus M16, looks like I made the right choice as it seems I get the best of both worlds, 16:10 screen with Nvidia GPU
4:40 is HX actually unlocked? I've never seen any ability to overclock them or do any bonus tuning.
It’s not actually unlocked on the blade but it’s meant to be an unlocked processor
I'm going to be starting college getting my BFA in animation and one of the laptops the recommend is the Razor blade 15, but I'm thinking about getting the Blade 14, 3070ti. What are your thoughts on the best laptops for 3d animation and modeling?
5:58 Blender comparison probably has you leaning toward the Blade. Not sure if the same performance difference can be expected with Maya or 3DS max or whatever program you are using. Tbh I’m surprised your program isn’t recommending a MacBook Pro, I suppose the programs aren’t optimized yet for the M1, but those things are creative productivity beasts.
@@kentonyc Yeah they recommend laptops with Nvidia GPUs. I've looked at MacBook Pro's with the M1 chip and they don't seem to preform when there's lots of elements to a render.
@@strafeeto that makes sense - it does seem to me (don't quote me on this) having an Nvidia GPU is really critical since a lot of the programs are optimized for it.
I say get the g15 since it has a 3070ti at 1800 which is a lot more reasonable than any of the blades. If you can handle the lack of camera and can find it at a discounted price the previous year g15 with a 3070 is even better.
The only thing I'd want from next year's model of the g14 is a full sized SD card slot. That would make my life complete.
An in-depth review of the LAPTOPS! It's not another high-profile RUclips reviewer(dev2d) who isn't doing a thorough review like you. I hope you'll do that kind of review more often.
Thanks! More to come!
I have a Samsung G9 monitor (49' curved ultrawide)...I wonder what FPS I would get gaming hooking the G14 to it.
I have a question that I'd love to hear your views on. I currently own a 14" razerblade (the 3K touch version) that was purchased in January of 2016, making it 6.5 years old. I used to game more when I got it, but haven't done any during grad school. However... this laptop has been a phenomenal performance laptop. I use it for bioinformatics work, video editing, and graphics editing. I have noticed no deterioration in function over the years. The only thing that crapped out was the mouse pad buttons. But they stopped working years ago and haven't been any issue to work around. It even survived a fall with only a minor scuff on one corner. I want to get a new laptop that will have the same performance and durability. Maybe I'll do some gaming, but I also want it to be great for watching movies and graphics editing etc. Is getting a new razerblade 14" the right choice? Are there any others I should seriously consider? I'm ok with the higher price if it means I get more years with it. I'm not sure how other brands measure up in longevity. Also, I would only consider 13-14" laptops.
G14 is very good
Would be interesting to see the Alienware X14 added into the comparison since it’s powered by Intel instead of AMD
would've been great to get keyboard sounds, webcam and mic samples, and some speaker playback. it's impossible to know the difference you're talking about if you don't own these, which I'm assuming most people that are watching this comparison don't
a silly question ,
hdmi 2.0b , is it able to support 4k 60hz and 120hz?
The Blade will be great a couple of years from now when you can get it at an Open Box price at Best Buy. The G14 is great right now.
Absolutely love this video. Please update to include that Razer’s last for about a month before something breaks
What usually breaks? I've had mine for 6.5 years without any major issues. The mousepad button stopped responding after a few years but that was an easy workaround. I did have one charger die on me but the second has been going strong for many years.
hi mattew ,
what will u choose for G14? 6700s or 6800s , and how do u feel about the AniMe Matrix verison.
i haven't reviewed the 6700s so im not sure how much of a difference there is in terms of performance compared to the 6800s. but no I wouldn't buy the AniMe Matrix version. It's a waste of money to have flashy casino lights on the lid of your laptop.
I have heared about g14 that it can run AAA games at high settings even with 100 watt usb charger. That its that efficient that 100 watt can be shared between cpu and gpu. Is that right? Can you test that? Would be interesting to see that. Its kind of a big deal if you can game at 100 watt charger :)
Great content! Subbed.
Welcome aboard!
What about performance with battery only?
My man disrespected the X14 for no reason😭
Hi is m16 a good choice for content creators?
where can I find the black version tho? I looked everywhere
great review
Could you compare it to x13 flow?
I think alienware should also be in this comparison because intel can really do well and I feel like a lot of people will be curious about the x14 as the x series is normally considered elite.
So if they were both the same price both with the same size, same RAM which one would u choose
As much as I love my assortment of Razer Accessories, keyboards mice etc. I just couldn't validate buying the laptops they make. I've seen way more spicey pillows come from them. And I just don't like those odds. I got the 2022 G14 R9 6900HS RX6700S after looking at the performance difference between it and the 6800S variant, the difference wasn't significant enough to spend the extra on it. I'm quite happy with the performance I get from the 6700S and if I want or need more, I can wait till I get home and use my desktop.
I wonder if they improved the keyboard since I got the G14 in 2020. I personally don't care for the keyboard on the G14. I don't like the layout and I don't like the feeling and sound of the keys. I REALLY do not like that they put a white on white keyboard backlight. I literally can't see the keyboard unless the room is pitch black. Just something that is small yet makes a huge difference in day to day use.
I picked up the 2022 G14 with 32Gb. Nice improvement over the 2021 I have. Not day and night, but the convenience improvements such as the built-in micro SD. It did however get a big bump in price versus the 2021 model. Great laptop, the RGB lighting is not very bright though.
Where are you finding the G14 with these specs for $1899? I see it at Best Buy for $2500...at that price the comparison becomes a bit trickier.
Please do an in game comparison. I had both systems and returned the G14. I couldn’t get 30 (would be stuttering) FPS in the g14 in RDR2 ultra. With the blade i am almost getting a locked 60! NVIDIA just does a way better job at RT and DLSS than AMD with FSR.
DLSS is a huge deal
DLSS is okay but AMD is about release FSR 2.0 which is basically the same thing as DLSS.
The g14 isn't on the best Buy in Canada yet, or at least I can't find it
What gaming laptop should I go for with 1.8k- 2k $ budget
can you make a video on asus tuf series gaming laptops
Love my 2021 rb14. Nothing beats the quality of the laptop hands down.
true same here
