- In todays video I talk about my ownership experience now that I have owned my BMW F10 535i for just over a year now. I talk about some of the issues i've had since buying the car as well as share some opinions about the styling/performance of the F10 platform now that I have owned mine for this past year. Near the end of the video I talk about whether or not i regret buying this car and whether I think you should consider picking one up for yourself.

Just picked up a 2014 535d (the diesel one), this is only my second car and my first was a junker truck so it's a HUGE difference. Absolutely love this thing, just replaced the sticky interior door handles 2 days ago. The monstrous amount of torque makes me feel like I'm in an electric car, and I get the mpg of an Accord hybrid. Definitely didn't get the best deal price-wise, but it only had 50k Miles and was in near mint condition from the first and only owner. Hoping to drive this thing until electrification kills the ICE industry in a decade or so. Keep driving brother.
Congrats on the purchase, I’ve not had any personal experience with the diesel f10’s but I can only imagine how they are! I hope you get many years of awesome driving out of it! 💪🏼
what should i expect to pay for a similar year and similar mileage 535d?

@@Saltitas what KBB is quoting and what private or dealers want is completely different, actual used car prices in the markets is still exaggerated
ive had a 2012 535i for about 8 months now. Just a few months ago it stalled on the freeway. ended up being a bad fuel pump. cost 2k for parts and labor. had an oil leak from a gasket. and needed a new drive belt, 700. well the extended warranty i got covered it all. its in the shop still and will be ready next week but im so happy that when i get my car back, itll be like new. Everything that was wrong with it they fixed it
Been driving my F11 520d for exactly 12 years now. Still running like a charm at 117.000 miles. Keep up the great work 👍
That’s awesome! Definitely won’t get that kind of mileage out of mine during my ownership but good to know that you’ve had a smooth long term ownership, more of a reason why I like these cars so much haha
@@Anthony_B Quick Update. Drove to Austria this week. Sadly the timing chain broke on my F11 at around 119.000 miles. Still going to get the engine rebuild for around 4.000€ because the sell value is still pretty high and i just love the car :)

I've had my 2016 535i X-drive for about 6 months. Just hit 106K. I have replaced 2 rims/ tires out of pocket. I had the same oil pan gasket leak, and vibration issue. Got the car used with a warranty, took to Newbold BMW. They replaced the gasket, my front thrust arm bushings, and cv-axel boots. I no longer have the vibration issue. Assuming it had to do with my thrust arm bushings. There is still a bit of road noise at freeway speeds, but I think that is from the sport suspension and 19in run flats. Oh yea super lucky, I can’t tell you the amount of stories I’ve read about haha, but now I’m curious, do you have a later production date f10? They must have corrected the issue with the late ones I’m guessing

#bmw f10 vibration at specific speeds. (this is only for the specific tire vibration at high speed, not entire car vibration or when braking or pulling)
I had the same issue LCI back when, right passenger front tire at 60 to 65mph, what i did to resolve my issue. 1. previous owner sized tires incorrectly very low profile and the wheels were not to my liking i was upgrading them anyway. Upgraded tires and aftermarket wheels, still had vibration, tires inflated to 45psi spec by tire shop. I had a BMW indie shop take a look and they could not find the problem. Suspension was fine. I removed right front tire and cleaned hub rotated tire 90degrees and made sure it was flush to the hub before bolting also lowered PSI to 35 and no more vibration. (knock on wood) Great car btw..

Ive had my 2013 535i M sport for over 3 years now. Ive had multiple BMW's over the last 13 or so years. The F10 is by far my favorite. Altho it has given me the most problems, ive never been stuck on the side of the road. Its a smooth, highway getter. I love it. Im at 135k miles now. I plan to keep it for another 2-3 years. Its fully loaded with everything from HUD, Soft close doors, massaging seats, and my favorite, Bang and Olsen sound system.
I also had a really good experience with mine, hopefully other owners are as well!
What problems you have ?
Ive had a 2011 535i for 2 years now I bought it broken it needed hpfp and water pump since I've done all maintenance stuff and running mhd with flex fuel and custom tune by David Shoup now pushing 450 wheel with pure stage 1 turbo. Love this car!!!

its been 2 years aswell since i got my 2011 535i had her stock the entire time but now i started buying bolt on mods with a mhd stage 2 and my god the difference from stock to tuned is crazy
@@ink.F10 yes it’s a big difference but wait until you go with flex fuel and a custom tune! Omg! It’s insane!
What flex fuel kit, pumps, etc have you gone with? I’m fbo bm3 stage 2 e30. Just got the Bimmerhaus grill intake which is exciting. Just downpipe charge pipe intercooler straight pipe and aluminum valve cover for now. Thanks
@@jacklabrier8039 nice! I have mhd flex fuel kit, walbro 450 lpfp, stock hpfp like the n54s also fbo, but the thing that made the most difference was the custom tune by David Shoup! This winter I just started reaching fuel cut on my hpfp which is capable of handling 475 wheel hp so now I need a helix overdrive.
To sort out the highway speed vibration follow this sequence which I did with my F10 till smooth: a) check rimms- if buckled in any way, repair. b) Do road force balancing and pump the tyres at least 2.5 bar all around- never underflated- their spec is too low in some countries c) Check the tyres- must be the star rated runflats /bmw prescribed tyres. d) Check wheel alignment e) check the shock absorbers - this is primarily for vibration control f) Take a crow bar and inspect your lower control arms, suspension parts, upper control arms, steering rack ends, bushings etc. g) Check your wheel bearings h) Service the driveshaft- they will lazer measure to check it is straight, lubricate and check the driveshaft bearings, especially the center bearing.

@@Anthony_B could also be engine mount especially mount where it connects to drivetrain
Rear diff ring bushing is a big one for this
And guibo bushing I’ve heard
For vibration, check your engine mounts, if that doesn't fix it, wheel balancing... few grams off on a wheel at 70mph is really noticeable
Is that what causes a ruttle noise when accelerating after a fully stopping?
I have an 2015 535i and I recently bought a new water pump and would like to know when I should replace it?
Bro i guess vibration on highway because of drive shaft center support bearing, there is rubber probably cracked. And also check drive shaft flex joint if it's cracked it makes horrible vibration.

I bought a 520D F10 LCI with the B47 engine with 49k miles - I hope it lasts as well as my previous C class which was 9 years without a single failure (until it was written off after an accident).

Low Oil Sensor is from the wrong/drum oil.
For the oil leaks could it be the valve cover gasket? And for the vibrations, is it when you go past a certain speed ?ot solely when you brake ?
It’s definitely possible, but when I last inspected it, the oil appeared to be coming from the oil pan gasket area, as for the vibration, it never happened when I braked, only at freeway speeds while cruising
I have a 2015 535. 63k miles. Absolutely no issues. That said, it's all stock and oil is changed every 6 months. Regardless of miles.

yeah I have a 2016 and have the weird vibration around 65-70mph
This must be drive shaft center support bearing, there is rubber when it's cracked it makes vibration, and also drive shaft flex joint maybe cracked
I’ve had my f10 for 2 years. GREAT car. Love it. I don’t think I’ll ever sell it, I’ll put a million miles on it before that
2013 535i M sport. I actually liked the pre lci look for the older interior. Reminded me a bit more of the older beamers like e39. I would’ve went for LCI too just found this one. Saw with a lot of research to get 2013+ however with fuel and bearing updates
Have every m sport option but everything else is base. Exactly what wanted. Less to go wrong. Silver trim paddle shifter sport transmission 351M wheels. Standard m sport suspension not the electronically controlled sway bar stuff. P180 high speed synchronization for the factory added oil cooler. Otherwise it has the big navigation screen, and heated seats which I was okay with having haha. The only other feature which I was 50/50 on, was parking sensors. Just another thing to go wrong but also nice for parking especially if someone else is driving my car

well let me tell you my experience…
Bought my 2012 BMW 535I at 108K miles like 6 months ago. Now sits at 113K miles and let me tell u what I been through…
Oil pan leak, valve cover leak, oil filter housing leak, Transmission failed (pump failed in transmission causing new trans, torque converter, oil cooler, oil lines), Rear differential bushing split, Rough idle (i’ll get more into detail on that). Serpentine belt, tensioner, and idler pulleys, thermostat, coolant hose bursting.
So, as you can see there is a lot of issues going on here. I plan on doing a video myself to go over this also. But the rough idle was a false lean condition making my car dump loads of fuel. Got me bad fuel economy and overall really bad idle, intermediate stalling but otherwise pulled fine. I swapped my MAF with a autozone one and my issue still was present. Smoke tested but no leaks. Now it was down to the PCV valve on valve cover or what i’ve heard the valve tronic system stuck or something.
I took into a shop and put my vehicle warranty to use. 11K later (literally the price i payed for the car) everything should be fixed. (car still in shop)
but what was weird was the shop put my old MAF Sensor back into the car and it didn’t rough idle anymore.. they said the one i just replaced it with was faulty and putting my old one back in fixed the issue. So that being said i’m very skeptical on the issue.. they said it could be intermittently failing and will let me know once they replace my trans if it returns…
other than that, my cars taken me from point A to point B.. Though my trans did fail, it was because of the pump in which isn’t maintenance related… all the leaks and serpentine that just happens at 100K miles. And if it ends up just being the MAF again, then that also is a 100K mile failure. so other than that, the trans was my only huge issue. fortunately it only costed me 1500$ out of pocket to get 11K worth of stuff done.. not bad.
My advice to anyone looking to buy a used bmw at the 80-100+ thousand mile range.. verify all oil leaks are taken care of. I think every 50K miles plan on spending 5K. and every 100K miles plan on spending 10K. to get all oil leaks fixed prob plan on spending 5K for a shop to do it.
Don’t get a xdrive also unless it’s super worth it for your area. Even in areas of Canada and Midwest I’d opt for rwd for less things to go wrong

i think vibration in f10/11 were caused from CV axles, drive shafts, they getting little bit loose and worn after time, hard to notice that even whem you lift the car

I've just bought a 528i with no turbo. Driving wise is a machine I really love it, but the parts where I live are extremely expensive and the other day I realized there are some oil and coolant leaks... my wallet will also leak I'm afraid.. regards from Chile
Congrats on the purchase! Yea sadly they can be expensive to maintain, but fun cars if you can keep them going!

Interesting, if only on startup (and not while driving) I’d maybe look at your engine mounts or even check if your car has any codes (maybe a misfire?), might be a couple good places to start looking 👍🏼

Not to my knowledge had it ever been, as far as I know it was OEM
The oil pan leak is indeed minor the dealership wants you to pay 4K to fix
It’s pretty involved, so I can see why it’s an expensive job, and another reason why I haven’t made time to do it myself haha

During my ownership of my f10, I never had any water pump issues, but it’s a good item to consider replacing if your car has higher miles or there is no history of replacement since new 👍🏼

My f10 was not all wheel drive, and I never got around to repairing it, but if you’re going to pay a shop to do the job, it will likely be pretty pricey as it’s not a very simple job
Does heat affect this cars in tropical areas?
I can’t speak from personal experience but the general rule of thumb is cooler temps are better, hotter climates can contribute to the engine running slighter hotter than normal, so I’d assume simply that hotter temps anywhere, means less efficiency for your car 👍🏼

Is this car worth the money? Is good for road trips?
Hard to say since every car has been taken care of differently by different people, so unless you’ve owned one from new, it’s hard to say for certain if they’ll last, but in my experience, I didn’t have any issues with my f10, and if the right opportunity came up again I wouldn’t be opposed to getting another one 👍🏼

Warning do not buy a 550i or 650i!! Those cars are known to have engines go bad under 100xxx miles
There’s this ‘13 550i awd, 82k miles, $16k dude just had to put a brand new 0 miles engine from BMW a few months ago.. for the price, tuned to almost 500 hp super clean, I’m kinda interested but still nervous about it

That would be the dreadful N63 engine. He’s right. Don’t ever buy any bmw that ends in “50”. They suffer from valve stem issues and the turbos smoke a lot when they need changing.
Absolutely correct, however they basically redesigned the whole engine for the 2014 model year, the redesigned N63 engines are generally recognized as pretty reliable, especially compared to the early one. So the LCI x50i is something to consider.
