Should you knit or crochet gloves? I did both so you don’t have to!

  • Would you knit or crochet gloves?
I tried crocheting and knitting my first pair of gloves to compare the two different methods.
As per usual, no patterns were followed for this video, and both gloves were made freehand to (hopefully) even the playing field.

love your sense of humour! I think crochet is usually less elastic than knitting, and cotton especially doesn’t have much give compared to, say, wool.

Such a good point! Wool would have been really nice to work with, especially to see and feel the difference compared to cotton. So glad you enjoyed 💖

Your comparison videos made me more serious about knitting. I ask that question almost every day: should I crochet or knit that?

I can seriously relate to that question now that you mention it!

This is perfect! The same question has been plagueing my mind recently and I decided I'll knit as it'll be more elastic

I was looking for reviews of pigmented and dipped knit cotton work gloves, i don't even know how any of these crafts work but for some reason i watched the whole thing, i guess that's a testament to the video's quality

Now, what about the option of a mix of knit and crochet in your gloves? That would be really interesting.

      Best of both worlds :)

I can imagine a solid knit glove with frilly crochet lace on the cuffs
      best of both worlds indeed

I admit to not liking to deal with making the fingers for gloves. Plus I use my cell phone often so my fingers need to be exposed. Thus I've been trying out crochet fingerless glove patterns for dk weight and worsted weight. You definitely get a stiffer fabric when crocheting with worsted weight, so dk weight might work better. But certainly use worsted weight if the tighter fit makes your hands feel better. I'm now experimenting with making what I call "fingerless mittens". It is simply making the fingerless section longer so that more of your fingers are covered but still leaving enough of the fingertips exposed at the top.

Have you tried flip top or convertible mittens? They are so convenient to use with a phone. they aren't too hard a knit either.

Can you knit with two hooks?? If so does it have the same effect has knitting normally?
